1 FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH PLANO, ILLINOIS The Anchor Sunday, November 4, we will celebrate All Saints Sunday. It is a wonderful reminder of God s faithfulness and blessing through all of life, and of the communion we share with all God s people through all the ages. We will especially remember those who have passed through death to eternal life since last All Saints Sunday William Simms, Helen Sears, Sabrina Atlas, Bertha Mealey, and Lorraine Kolzow. We also remember and celebrate those who have been bap zed in the past year in our congrega on Evan Corrado, Clara Snider, Rebecca (Jones) Gwilt, Sabrina Atlas, Tyler, Cael & Bradley Schindlbeck, Benjamin Englehart, Olivia Agajanian, Caleb Colbert and Rachael Supercyznski. Be sure to remember to set your clocks back an hour Saturday night, November 3rd, before you go to bed, so you can be well rested and energized when you come to worship Sunday morning. November is a me for Thanksgiving. As disciples of Christ we are called to live with deep gra tude, recognizing that all that we are and all that we have are God s gi s to us. Even in mes of turmoil, uncertainty and suffering, we s ll have so much to give thanks for. For us Thanksgiving should be so much more than a holiday, it should be our way of life. One great way to deepen your sense of thankfulness is to turn to familiar hymns like O God our Help in Ages Past; Amazing Grace; and Joyful Joyful, We Adore Thee. They do a Pastor s Corner wonderful job of drawing us into thankfulness. This year we will again celebrate Thanksgiving with our brothers and sisters in Christ at First Bap st Church and the United Methodist Church of Plano. This year it is the Methodists turn to have everyone over for our Thanksgiving meal of Holy Communion. One of the names for Holy Communion is the Eucharist which comes from the Greek word for He gave thanks, referring to Jesus taking the bread and cup and giving thanks to God. We will gather on Wednesday, November 21st at 7 p.m. Please join us! On Saturday, December 1 st, I will lead a mini retreat on Awe and the Sabbath Rhythm of Life, at the Sabbath Center in Lanark, IL. I would love to have anyone from First Lutheran a end. The cost is $30 per person. There is the op on of spending Friday night there, and doing some astronomical observing with telescopes if weather permits. Brochures are available at the church. Please talk to me if you have any ques ons. The 1 st Sunday of Advent will be Sunday December 2nd. Join us as we begin our Advent journey to Bethlehem and the manger. The Community Christmas Choral Service will be Sunday, December 2nd, 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Plano Pastor Bruce VOLUME 26, ISSUE 10 NOVEMBER 2012 INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Wedding Announcement, Thank you s, Craft Night, Pastor gone, Flower charts, Fellowship signup, Rockin Christmas, Thanksgiving bits Recipe-Sweet Potato & Apple Casserole, November Library News, Prayer List, Prayer chain info Book Club, Offering, Women s Bible Study, Stewardship Info, Hanging of the Greens, Golden Harvesters, November Calendar November Volunteers, November Birthday & Anniversaries, November Prayer List Council Briefs, Sunday School Snippets Readings for November /3 4/5 6/7 8/9 10/11 11/4/2012 All Saints Sunday Isaiah 25:6-9 Psalm 24 Revelations 21:1-6a John 11: /11/ Kings 17:8-16 Psalm 146 Hebrews 9:24-28 Mark 12: /18/2012 Daniel 12:1-3 Psalm 16 Hebrews 10:11-25 Mark 13:1-8 11/25/2012 Christ the King Sunday Daniel 7:9-10, Psalm 93 Revelations 1:4b-8 John 18:33-37

11 T HE ANCHOR PAGE 11 Sunday School Snippets Secret Pals Have Been Assigned In October, adult secret pals were given the name(s) of their Sunday School secret pals (students.) Along with the names, adults pals were given the grade of the child, their home address, birth date, baptism date and confirmation date (if applicable.) Also, if the student(s) filled out their secret pal information sheet this was shared with the adult. Students are encouraged to fill out the sheet if they haven t already done so, so your secret pals will know little secrets about you. If you lost your sheet, there are more in the Sunday School office. Thanks for Donations Thanks to everyone who donated Sunday School supplies this fall. They are usually left anonymously in the Sunday School office, so we don t know who to thank personally, but you know who are you! These donations really help our kids create and have fun! Thanks to everyone for helping to make Trunk or Treat a real Halloween treat! The kids looked great in their costumes as they walked by all the trunks and gathered goodies and played games! What a fun event this has become and it s great to spend time with our neighbors! Students should start receiving little notes, treats and/or cards of encouragement, which will be signed by their Sunday School Secret Pal. Secret pals will be revealed on Awards Sunday in May. If you intended to sign up for this exciting program and were not assigned a name, please contact Kathy Benoit. Also, if you would like to be included on a stand-by list in the event we receive new students, please talk to Kathy.
