05 T-Bone Steak Doctrine By Mike Stroud Mike: I have a special lesson for you today. This is a great big T-Bone Steak Doctrine. You know what Paul said, 'Milk before meat', my back is out of whack, and milk before meat, will today is pure meat... a great big steak.' In the Scriptures, 2nd Peter chapter 1 on page 1551, in the Scripture Peter mentions something called,' exceedingly great and precious promises'; in that same chapter he mentions a couple of other things, he mentioned something called 'making your calling and election sure', and then he mentions also something called 'the divine nature'. This is the only place in the whole Bible where these terms are mentioned... Is right there in 2nd Peter. They're not mentioned anywhere else in the Bible. There also not mentioned anywhere in the book of Mormon, this work right here, this divine nature, not mentioned anywhere; not in the book of Mormon; not know the pearl of great price; not in the doctrine and covenants; not in the Old Testament, and only once in the New Testament is where that's mentioned. But it's very very important to understand what that is. This right here, making your calling and election sure, actually is one of those exceedingly great and precious promises. Okay. Let's go to 2nd Peter chapter 1 and look at verse 4. <Student> do you have that? Will you read verse 4 for us? Student: "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust." Mike: Okay, now look here you said whatever this is... Whatever this is right here... You have to partake of this, the divine nature, in order to lay hold on these exceedingly great and precious promises If you don't partake of the divine nature you don't have these promises. So these 2 things right here, precious promises and divine nature are tied their interconnected. Now let's go to verse 10 and brother <Student> read verse 10 for us there with you? Student: Sure. "Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:..." Mike: Do you see that? So here's Peter telling us that if you give diligent heed to make your calling and election sure, which is one of these promises, then look at the promise that is involved. The overall promise is: you will never fall. Look at that... Never... Never fall. So we ought to find out what this stuff is here because if we claim these 3 things here, the promise from God is that you will never fall. Meaning... you will obtain the highest degree of the celestial world. You will be exalted in the celestial kingdom, you will be a husband and wife a family unit forever, you will be able to create your own worlds, and start the process again over with your own spirit children. You will be able to start the plan again with you presiding over that kingdom following in the footsteps of your father. So you see these things are pretty potent, whatever this means. I have a missionary in the last class, Elder <Student>, say, 'brother Strauss, what is this? What is that, the divine nature?' Let's talk about that for just a second. I thought that was a great question. How can you... How can you partake of it if you don't know what it is? Okay. Any thoughts on the divine nature? The only time that it is mentioned in the Scripture is right there in 2nd Peter, but it's so important that unless you partake of it you stand a chance of falling. So isn't it interesting that something that is that important is only mentioned in this isolated single place in the New Testament by Peter. Do you find that interesting? It's almost like it's a secret that you really have to search for in order to find out what it's about. Any thoughts on the divine nature? Brother <Student> Student: Does it have something to do with the option of the natural man? Mike: Absolutely Student: Does it have something to do with your spiritual man? Your spiritual man, your spirit where you came from, your inheritance were before you came here to earth? Mike: exactly right let's go over here [left] and let's look put 2 things let's put 'your nature' and then way over here [right] let's put God's nature. And this one, another word for God's nature is: divine nature. So, I think we understand the your and God is, but this word right here nature. And so here's a

little definition of it. Your nature is who you are, and I want to emphasize that, who you really are. Okay. It's the person who does what they do when nobody is looking. And the reason you do what you do when nobody is looking is because it's just you, that's who you are. It's your nature to do that. Things. This one here, according to Mosiah 3:19, in the book of Mormon, says that this person right here is a what? <Student>. Student: An enemy. Mike: Is an enemy... An enemy to God. Okay. So, what we re needing to do, and Mosiah 3:19 says, "...has been from the fall of Adam, and ever will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, " what we re being told here is: To be changed from this person for a person who possesses the nature of God. And you can only do it through the atonement. So here's the beautiful part of the atonement... And the part we don't talk about. The atonement has the power to transform you. To change you at the very core and the very nature of who you are. The Scriptures sometimes talk about a change of heart. So you re changed inside. To give you an example let's say that I meet somebody and they say, 'oh you live in <city>, do you know a man by the name of <man>? I say yes I know <man>. And this person says,' boy, he is a bad man. [10:01] He is... He's a liar, he's a cheat, he's a thief...' and I'm going... 'Whoa... whoa... wait just a minute here... just wait a minute... just wait a minute; are we talking about the same person that you know. <man> that goes to that church down there, the Mormon Church? 'Yeah he looks like this and his wife name is such and such. 'Yeah that's the one'. But I say, 'yeah I know him and the person you're describing is not the person I know.' Now watch. It is not his nature to be that kind of a man. See how I use that word. It's not his nature. His nature is to be helpful and loving and kind. I know he loves his wife. He's Honest, he's a hard worker and he serves his fellow men that's the nature of the man I know. I don't know who you're talking about? But it isn't the man I know. It's not his nature. You see how that's so here were talking about this, so if you will come into possession with God's divine nature he will obtain the promises. So here's the point: in order to obtain these promises we have to change. And you can't change by yourself but Jesus Christ's atonement can change you. And that's the only way it can happen. Okay. Let s go to the Scriptures and let's look at a couple Scriptures. I'm going to show you, I'm going to spend some time building the foundation here. And then I mine hoping it will all come together. Let's go to doctrine and covenants section 82 verse 10. And let's see what it says. Somebody when you get that, everybody's got it, okay. Sister Stroud. Sister Stroud: "I, the Lord, and bound when you do what I say; but would you do not what I say, you have no promise." Mike: Now, see were talking about exceedingly great and precious promises. And here the Lord also talking about promises. Here's an interesting thing. What does it mean when the Lord says, 'I am bound.' What does that mean...? 'I am bound?' [13:13] What does it mean when God says, I am bound." I have no choice. I have to do something. Okay. And what he says is: 'I the Lord am bound if you what? So In the middle I want to put.. If you do what I say, which is obey; if you do what I say then these promises are yours; if you do not what I say you have no promise. Okay, now this is a real simple formula. I like this because this breaks a powerful doctrine down into real simple terms as I will show you here. So the key word here is right there if you obey God's commandments, he has to what? Fulfill his promise... he has to... he has to. Let's look at another one. Let's go to D&C 130:20 21, brother <student> you have that? Student: "There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated and when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated." Mike: That's a wonderful Scripture. Let's break it down. Here the Lord says: there is a law irrevocably.. That means it cannot be removed, it's for ever and ever; it set always will be there, is now, and always

has been in place, which says what? It never changes your revocable means it never changes. It can't be removed, it never will be removed and it says if you obtain a blessing from God, any blessing from God it is because liquids in the center here again interesting it is because of your obedience to the law upon which that blessing was predicated. Means assigned... it is a part of that. So basically it's saying the same thing this is D&C 82:10 says here, I the Lord and bound by what? Law. Did you ever stop to think of God being bound by law? Most people think that law originates with God. It's not true. Our father in heaven is a God because he is strictly and totally obedient to eternal law. Okay? So if heavenly father, watch this, if heavenly father who is strictly and totally obedient to eternal law, if he was to break a law, another word we could about here for law would be... We could put up here commandment, what would happen if heavenly father were to break a law? What if he were to, just take something easy, what would happen to heavenly father thought a wrong thought. He thought a wrong thought. <Student> comment? Student: He would cease to be God. Mike: that's what Alma and Amuck says, he would cease to be God. All he has to do, we don't have to talk about him breaking the commandments, all he has to do is think a wrong thought. A wrong thought, a bad thought. All he has to do, we don't have to talk about him breaking a commandment, all he has to do is think a wrong thought... A wrong thought and that's all. And the minute that he does that He ceases to be God. Now what would happen to have us if God ceased to be God? What would happen? Okay, let's look at a Scripture. Let me show you what happens, D&C 132, this is fun when you stop... Start to think about these things... And let's look at 132 verse 8. What does that say? Sister <student> D&C 132 verse 8. Student: "behold, mine house is a house of order, saith the Lord God, and not a house of confusion." Mike: so, if God were to break a commandment, okay... then everything that is currently held in order by law and by Father, everything would turn from order to the immediately chaos. It would just go into chaos. Let me show you another one, watch this. Let's go to D&C, so you can see that it's a true principle, let's go to D&C 88 and let's look at verse 36. Now we're thinking in terms of laws and rethinking that God obeys law perfectly perfectly that is why he is God because he is perfectly what? Obedient to eternal law. He never violates law. And as a result of that, [20:00] all of his creations and everything that he has control over remains orderly. It's everything remains in order because God is perfectly obedient to eternal law. Now look at this verse. Take a look at this starting in verse 36, "all kingdoms (think of the Milky Way galaxy, think of the millions of worlds out there with people on them. They're all presided over by someone who has a presidency and the Scriptures call them a King; so a person, a King, presides over a kingdom and this verse says: "all kingdoms have a law" Look at the next verse, there are many kingdoms, for there is no space in which there is no kingdom; so everywhere in space is presided over by someone who has authority and is able to command and things obey. There is no kingdom in which there is no space, verse 38 And unto every kingdom is given a law; And unto every law there are certain bounds also and conditions. 39 all beings who abide not in these conditions, than in other words obedient to the law, are not justified. So let me ask you a question. Does Satan obey God's laws? Brother <Student>: Student: well he kind of does, I mean he can't do whatever what he wants; God has to allow him to... Mike: well alright, so there are certain conditions, certain boundaries that our father in heaven has set up and Satan cannot exceed those boundaries. He can operate within that, because, only one reason, because God allows him to. He thinks he's in control. He thinks he's the big boss. He thinks he's the one running the show, but in reality, he is only allowed to do what God allows him to do. And what man's agency, or misuse of it, allows him to do. Brother <student> Student: agency teaches you about a supreme being, that s very important in the kingdom... in every kingdom. You must realize that there is a Supreme Being; all law comes from this Supreme Being. Thorough your obedience you get your blessing through... it s like a?? game... you know what I mean? The more you move... You re building up your kingdom.??? You re getting what promises you... you

are on your way... the more you do the more you get. It like the more money, the harder you work the more you make; the better you live. Mike: Thank you, I'd like to add one thing to that, that latter-day doctrine adds, and that is that God's law does not originate with God. He is a supreme being and the reason he is a supreme being is because he is supremely obedient to every law. For example: was heavenly father always a heavenly father? Student: he has to be. Mike: <ha ha> That s a good thing. Listen to what Joseph Smith taught. Joseph Smith taught this, where was there ever a father that wasn't first a son? And where was there ever a son that didn't have a father? And so, [24:04] Student: it s the chicken and the egg... fascinating Mike: so what Joseph is teaching is: is that there are father, and father, and fathers, and that our heavenly father was once as we are, and went through the same plan we are because of that; because that he is now a supreme being. We are following in his footsteps, he is your father and he is showing us the way to become like he is, okay? It's great stuff. Alright, let s come on over here for just a minute. So notice that here... Go ahead... Student:??? Can he change or remove a man; can't change law... Mike: yes, he can command and revoke. For Example: In Exodus he tells Moses in chapter 20, thou shalt not kill... That's a commandment... boom. Bur, a few chapters later in Joshua, who was also a prophet, he tells Joshua kill them all... man, woman, and child. It s the same God. So how come in one place in the bible he can say, don't kill; and another place says, take them all out. Well let's look and see why, go to doctrine and covenants... Student: He has every modus operandi that is needed for anybody to do... It's like a chess game... Anything you do... The first thing you have to do, you are bound, you have to obey the promise, but... you have what you call reasons, you have accounting, you have rights, so then when you take... the lord don't want you to question, so he has to keep his laws, you know, in mind with the way that man moves, you know what I mean, God moves in mysterious ways. A man will also, if you follow the Lord. Sometimes when you run into a road block or if you run into something that is impossible, then you have to make it possible... Mike: Okay. Student: that s when he has to change the law. Mike: okay. Student: Update... amend the law. [26:41] Mike: take a look at this... Sister Stroud go ahead Sister Stroud: well, we don't have the right to change or break the commandments of God at that point. He gave the commandment so he can revoke the commandment. So that's the difference; and we can't just opt not to do this... I'll to this command... that commandment. You do whatever God says is the law. Mike: Joseph Smith said, 'whatever God requires is right, whether you understand it or not.' Let's look at section 56 And here the doctrine and covenants gives us a feeling, section 56 verse 3 and 4. And once you understand this principle then it becomes very easy to understand why in one place he would say don't kill and in another place said take their lives. Okay, there are reasons, he knows those reasons. Let's look at versus 3 and 4, section 56 Doctrine and Covenants 3 and 4 <student> you have that? Do you want to read that? Just read those verses, 3 and 4. Student: "Behold, I, the Lord, command; and he that will not obey shall be cut off in my own due time, (So, here he says, if I command you to do something you must what? Obey. If you don't obey you will be cut off. Now look at the next verse.) after I have commanded and the commandment is broken. Wherefore I, the Lord, command and revoke, as it seemeth me good; and all this is to be answered upon the heads of the rebellious, saith the Lord." Mike: Now here's the part that God has the power to God and command and revoke. Brother <student> what does it mean to revolt something stop and when you revoke it Student: that means you have looked at it and edited it. What you've done and said this is not right, so I changed my mind, and I changed my idea so the law is changed, because when you revoke it you

can't revoke without reason Mike: okay, God's reasons are always right. So he reserves the rights to give a commandment, and when he feels it's necessary, to revoke that commandment, but always his commands and his revokes are to bless his children... Always. He never does anything but what he blesses his children. It may not look like it, but I tell you, everything he does is for the blessing of his family. Student> Student: Yeah, I think that when God gives a commandment and revokes it, it is not that he made a mistake in the first place; it s that it was necessary in the first place...as principles change. You tell your six-year-old son don't play with matches, but, when he turns 14 you can have them to light the fire. You wait for that knowledge and seasoning. Mike: thank you very much. Let s go back to this and what we see right here is the center of this thing I'm talking about is this word right here (obedient). So if you want the Lord to be bound by his laws and commandments and give you his promises and blessings; your part is to be obedient... Obedient, and the more obedient you are the greater the promises and blessings are. [30:04] A person who is strictly, flawlessly obedient and strives to be, qualifies for the greatest of God's blessings. And we're going to see what those are today and were going to open that up and see what is this, but the key is obedience; obedience is the key. Okay. Now it's interesting that the first law of heaven. The first law that we were taught in heaven before we came here by our father in heaven, was the law obedience. It is the first law of heaven. The first covenant you make in the temple, you make 5 covenants when you go through the temple, the first covenant you make is a covenant to obey the law of obedience... and everything is built on that. What's the opposite of obedience? Let s go to D&C 1 and see what the Lord says about that. Go to D&C section 1. And as he says now... we know that if you're obedient you claim all the blessings... what about if you will obviously can't have the blessings. But the Lord says something more look at verse 3 what's the opposite of obedience... rebellion. And what does he say in verse 3? Brother <student>. Student: "and the rebellious shall be pierced with much sorrow; for their iniquities shall be spoken upon the house tops, and their secret acts shall be revealed." Mike: So, the opposite of this is rebellion and I find it interesting that the rebellious are pierced with much sorrow. The obedient are filled with happiness and joy. The more obedient you are - the happy you are. The more obedient you are - the greater the blessings. The more rebellious you are - the more miserable you are and you are denied all the blessings and you have no promise, because God is not bound to honor a rebellious soul. He's not bound. Sister Stroud. Sister Stroud: I find it interesting that he used the word pierced with much sorrow. If we stop and think about what else is pierced, you think about the Savior was pierced with the sorrow of us being disobedient; also, Mike: Ohh! Good. Sister Stroud: So I think that word pierced is stragicially placed Mike: Ohh! Sister Stroud: And I think I would be filled with sorrow not pierced. Student: No, no, you are pierced with faith on a broken heart, right. [32:40] when you got baptized You got pierced... you said I will follow the law from this day; I'm a broken heart and contrite spirit... wheee, hits you right in the heart and in your spirit. Mike: very good. Student: so you are bound. Once you get baptized you are bound to obey. And then promises come back to you... here you go. Mike: thank you. Student:?? Mike: Now let me show you something else here let's go to 1 Nephi Chapter, no I've got it set up another thing here. Let's go to doctrine and covenants 1 verse 35. Here's something that the Lord says. Sister <student> do what you want to read that? Student: "for I am no respecter of persons, and will that all men shall know that the day speedily, the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand, when peace shall be taken from the earth, and the devil shall have power over his dominion." Mike: Now here's an interesting statement, watch... God says that he is no, and this is the word I want to circle here, no respecter of persons. What do you think that means?

Student: he is the boss... he isn't going to respect you; if he is the boss, he's the main man and it s your job to respect him. So he's not going to go out of his way just trying to keep promises and give you blessings. He's not going to go out of his way. Mike: okay. Student: you have to work... you have to fulfill your duties and obligations. You have to obey. Mike: Okay, thank you. Brother <student> student2: I think it means that there is no preferential treatment; he doesn't prefer one person over another one. Mike: okay. Let's see if you are correct. Both of those are good comments. Let s go down to 2 Nephi versus... chapter 26 verse 33. Let's see what this says. Let's get a better picture of it we need a better understanding of exactly what this means, because my whole lesson is built upon what I'm putting together here for you. Okay. Sister Stroud do you have that? Sister Stroud: 2nd Nephi , Mike: 33. Sister Stroud: okay 33, "For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he do that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he invited them all to come up unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile." Mike: Now, here's another Scripture where we pick up something else. He says; I want you to take a look at this term up here - 'God is no respecter'; and then come down here and look at this - 'all are alike unto him'; and then he says, 'Jew and Gentile, black and white, bond and free, male and female, rich or poor', and here's the word, look what he says here, 'he inviteth all and denies no one'. These 2 things, now, where he is no respecter of persons and these things here are tied in. So what it means here is: is that his arms are extended to everybody. Everybody come unto me. If he looked at that and said I invite everybody but for Filipinos to come, No Filipinos are allowed. Okay. No Filipinos are allowed. Then we would have to change this and put 'A'. God is 'A' respecter but he says no. That means everybody is invited okay. Now here's my question... Next question. Does God have favorites? Student: Yes. Mike: Yes he does, okay. Student: the obedient. Mike: okay... good, very good. Let's come over here to 1 Nephi Chapter 17 and let's look at verse 35. Somebody want to read that? Student: "behold, The Lord esteemeth all flesh in one; he that is righteous is favored of God. But behold, this people... " Mike: that s' good enough... Don't need to go any further, watch. So now watch, he esteem us all flesh in one, so this esteemeth all flesh, all are alike, invited all, and no respecter, all mean the same thing. Anybody can come to him, anybody can partake of these promises, but as brother <student> says, look at this word, even though all are invited, he favors... So God does have favorites. Everybody is invited, and yesterday in my class, and Thursday in my class, President <student> of the branch presidency made a classic statement he said, 'God invites everybody to be his favorite'. And I thought that, combined this whole thing up here. So now watch, do you want to be a favorite of God? You can't be his favorite unless you're righteous and you can't be righteous unless you are obedient. So what does it take to be a favorite of God, obedience. There it is again, there's that word again. Any questions or comments on that before I erase that? Does that make sense? [40:03] I want to come back and come up to show you something else here. I want to go to a Bible Scriptures, and let's go to the Bible to John, let me show you the beauty of the gospel, 7:17, John 7:17. Let's look at that. Shall I erase this? Are we okay? Now let me show you how this works, John 7; and then we can move into the great and precious promises. This part right here, would you read 7:17? Student: "if any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be if God, or whether I

speak of myself." Mike: Okay, so now this kind of saying the same thing over there (on board). Watch. Over here (on board) the blessings promised is to know something, right? The blessing promised in that in 17th first is to know. What do you need to do to know? You have to do something. So what the Lord saying is if you want to know if something is true, do it. Let's take an example. Okay, let's say that I want the blessing of good health. Remember what this first step up here, that up it says all blessings are tied to laws, is that right? So if I want the blessing of good health, I need to find a law from God that talks about good health. D&C 89 Word of Wisdom. Is that right? So let's look at the formula. If I want good health, find the law that talks about good health and be obedient to it. One, 2, 3. Just that simple. Let's say that I want the blessing of financial success. I don't want to have to worry about money. I don't care about being wealthy, but I just don't want to have to worry about money with everything else in life that there is to worry about. So I find, this... is what I want, so I find the law, that's associated with that, and I go to D&C 119 and Malachi in the Bible 3:8 10. And the Lord God is called the law of what? Tithing. So if I want the blessing of financial success, I find the law that is associated with it, and I do what? I pay it. I'm obedient. And that's the system of how this works. Any blessing that you want, find the law that is associated with it and obey the law and God is bound to bless you with the blessings. That's the principle. Isn't that neat? It's a beautiful thing. And it applies to anything. It applies to anything. Look for the law. Remember, all blessings are tied to a law. All blessings are tied to a law... if you want the blessing... find the law and obey it. And that's the principle we talked about today. Okay I'm going to erase this. All of this is building a foundation in case you're wondering where I'm going. And the foundation has to do with something up here; great and precious promises. Let's go to 1 Nephi, 1 Nephi chapter 10 versus 17 through 19. And go right there and then I want you to know that heavenly father has another name for all of this (on the board). He has another name, another term. He calls this, the mysteries. Okay. Exceedingly great and precious promises are also referred to as the mysteries of God. Okay now watch up here. I'm going to define the word mysteries. I will give you the definition of mystery. Here is the definition: A divine truth that can only be known through personal, personal what? Personal Revelation. Now there are... I've heard many people in the church say, leave the mysteries alone. Don't delve into the mysteries. That is false doctrine. You are actually commanded to search in the mysteries and find them out. That's where God has his greatest truth is, but, you're not going to hear them talk about them in general conference because they are reserved for you, and you alone, through personal Revelation between you and your father in heaven. Okay? That's the way you find out the mysteries. Another name for these great and precious promises is mystery. All right, let's come on over here and look at verse 17 first. 1 Nephi chapter 10 verse 17. Who would like to read that? Student: "and it came to pass after I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, concerning the things which he saw in a vision, and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, which power he received by faith on the son of God and the son of God was the Messiah who should come (Mike: Stop. So what's happened here is: is that father Lehi has pulled all of his children together and Ishmael's children, and he's told them about the vision of the tree of life which is in chapter 8, and has explained it, and also he's talk about the many revelations that he's received concerning the Messiah. Now watch what happens next) I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and no of the things, by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of God and to all those who diligently seek him, as well in times of old as in the time that he should manifest himself unto the children of men." Mike: Thank you, now look what we've got up here. I ve taking the pen and I've circle 3 words. They are very important. Nephi said I've listened to my father, I heard it all, but I wanted to see and hear and know for myself. In essence what Nephi is saying is that's good dad I like that thank you for telling me I want to see it. Now what we re going to see here is: is Nephi's going to teach us that anything you want to see is open to you. There is nothing kept back or else God is a respecter of persons. If he is no respecter of persons, what Nephi is going to teach us here is: everything that Nephi saw and heard and

knew. you and I can have that takes same experience. That's what we re being taught here. Okay. Now let's go to verse 18. "For God is the same, (watch,) yesterday, (you've all heard this,) today, and (what,) forever." He is no respecter of persons. So if he talked to Adam, and showed Adam certain things, if this is the truth, then he will show Mike Stroud, student one, student 2, student 3, and sister Stroud; he will show you the same things that he showed to every man and woman since Adam and Eve. Otherwise, he is a respecter of persons... which makes him a liar; because he said he is not. Right? Look at something else too. You can put up here, [50:00] we could put past, you want to see things in the past; you want to see things in the present; and you want to see things in the future. In the temple you are given the keys - the keys on how to see, here, and know the things of the past; things that are in the present; and things that are in the future. Part of the temple, every one of you have been to the temple have experienced this. You just maybe didn't know what was happening yet. And the Lord does things in threes. You go to the temple and at certain place in the temple he'll have somebody you will go up they will do this (rap, rap, rap) and somebody will say, 'yes', and then you will talk. And then after that somebody will do this (rap, rap, rap) and somebody will say, 'yes'. And then the other person will say, 'come in'. Okay. Now this is all teaching us what Nephi is talking about how to... The greatest, grandest, precious, promise of all... what is being taught here is: how to obtain that promise. So, if I were to ask you a question right now, what do you think of all of God's promises, which one do you think is the greatest, precious, and it's also in the Scriptures called the 'great and last promise'? Whooh. Wouldn't you like to know what that is? And not only would you like to know what that is would you like to know how to obtain it? Well the Scriptures teaches how. And that's what I'm going to show you today. Brother<student>. Student:?? Mike: Okay. Let s go to verse 18, "for he is the same yesterday, today, and forever; and the way is prepared (Think about John 14, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one cometh unto the father but by me'. So, the way is prepared. So what is the way prepared to come into the father through Christ, watch) for all men (no respecter of persons, esteems all flesh, all men if they would, here we go,)... repent and come unto him." Remember the law, here's the blessings here's the law if you will repent, and to me look at the first part of verse Seek ye what? Diligently. Then what? "...The mysteries of God will be unfolded unto them (you)... As well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round." So now watch, here is what Nephi is saying: If you will repent, come unto Christ, and seek him diligently; you will see, hear, and know anything you want... Anything! Let's look what Joseph Smith said about the first vision. Here's the words of the prophet Joseph Smith. God has not revealed anything to Joseph, but what he will reveal to the 12, and even the least of the latter-day Saints may know all things, just as quick as their able to bear it.' What did he just say there? What was it? He had the first vision; He saw the father and the son. What did he just say? You want to see the father and the son, you can. If it can happen to me, you can have it happen to you; otherwise God is a respecter of persons; and then he is not the same today, yesterday, and forever. That s the message I'm trying to give you here today. See. Nothing is withheld from us. let me put it another way, brother <student> you know the Bible... you know the Old Testament; you know the New Testament; you know all the miracles; you know all the visions; and all the dreams; all of the angelic visitations; all the communications with God. Think of the Bible is filled with the stories and what Joseph Smith just taught us is: everything you read about in the Bible, you can have personally yourself in this life. Not in the spirit world, not after death, not after the celestial world, now! You can have these things. That is his promise. It's all available to us in our day. Thoughts? Okay. Let me kind of wrap it up here little bit. I guess the question is: is that now we can see that all of these things are available, but most people think: yes, after I die; yes in the celestial kingdom; yes sometime

in the future. So the big question is; when are these things available? When? Now let s go to the doctrine and covenants section 76 and find out. 76 versus 114 through 118. D & C 76, so here's the question: when can I have these great and precious promises? When are they... When are these available? This is a great little key here. Okay, here we go. Let's paraphrase verse 14; great and marvelous are the works of the Lord, and the mysteries of his kingdom..., see, we have been talking about here, and skip over to verse 116,...man is not capable of making these things known, for they are only to be seen and understood by the power of the Holy Spirit. How do we find out mysteries? By personal Revelation - right? Which God bestows upon those who do 2 things, is your key, do what? If you want these things you have to... love...god and what? Purify... yourself. What you can't do by yourself, but that's another lesson, okay. Now watch, if you'll do those 2 things, here's your law over here... here's the blessings... he will grant you the privilege, see that word, of seeing and I'm going to add one... we already did that. I going to put here hearing and what? Knowing for yourself. Catch that... for yourself. What are we talking about? His mysteries. And here's the question: when? Watch... the next verse. That through the power of manifestations of the spirit, here we go, while what? In the flesh. What does that mean? Right now! Right now, in mortality, in this life, is what that means, before death is what he is saying. Before death, watch, you can know these things while in the flesh; here's the rest of it, that you may be able to bear his what? His presence. But did he just say there? That in this life you can have the opportunity to stand in the presence of the son of God; and see him and talk to him; have him embrace you; and bless you; and love you; and teach you in this life. If you'll do what? Here's the law, here's the blessings, what comes in between? Obey. So virtually nothing is held back from us, brothers and sisters, nothing! It's all available to us. Now, Satan wants to put us asleep. And let me show you how he puts us to sleep concerning these principles of these great blessings. So you come to a class and somebody teaches you that God appeared face-to-face to some people in the Old Testament. And you say, 'oh, yeah. He appeared to Moses didn't he; yeah, didn't he speak to Moses face-to-face as one span speaks to another man. Isn t that somewhere back there in Exodus chapter 33 somewhere? And oh ya, by the way, there were 70 other people that saw God face-to-face. My gosh there's a lot of people in the old keep testament that saw him face to face. And you say that, I believe that. Okay, then you come up... that's your bottom level. Okay, you believe that that took place in the Bible. Now we are going to come up with step. Oh, he appeared to Joseph Smith. Well, I guess if he appeared to Moses and he's the same yesterday, today, and forever it makes sense that he could appear to Joseph Smith. I believe that he appeared to Joseph Smith, yes. I could accept that. Step, you re up another step... let s go up another step. Oh, he appeared to other people, prophets and apostles. They are people in our day. The first presidency and the quorum of the 12 is seen him face-to-face. I believe that. Step 3. You see what's happening? Step 3 so you're on step 3 and the next step is: we don't have to be a prophet or apostle to see Jesus Christ - it's open to anybody. You mean to tell me there are actually members of the church who have seen the Savior faceto-face? And you sit there and say: that if he is the same, yesterday, yesterday and today, and no respecter of persons... I can believe that there are people alive on the earths right now that are not prophets and apostles, who are members of the church, that have had a personal visitation of Christ. And you look at that and you say, 'boy, that could never happen to me. I believe it... it happens to others, but no way could it ever happened to me.' [61:11] So, you've got up to this step and all of a sudden you look at your life you say, impossible. Impossible! And then you mature, and the spirit teaches you and you come up and say, 'well, if he is no respecter, and he's appeared to them, and he's talk to other latter-day Saints; and if he the talk to them maybe he could talk to me. And you say okay. Maybe that is a possibility. Next level, I believe that he can talk to me. Next level, I believe that he will talk to me. Last level, I'm waiting. I'm waiting. See you see what happens? But none of this up here happens until you learn this down here that it is available. If you don't know it is available. You can never seek it... And you never will seek it, and you will die and never have claimed that great and

precious promises. Sister Stroud. Sister Stroud: can we go to section 67:10 Mike: please. Sister Stroud: D&C 67:10. Mike: great scripture Sister Stroud: it says that... "And again, verily I say unto you that it is your privilege, and the promise (here are your privileges and promises) I give unto you that have been ordained and to this ministry, that inasmuch as you strip yourselves from jealousies and fears, and humble yourselves before me, for ye are not sufficiently humble, (and here is the key) the veil shall be rent and you shall see me and know that I am..." (Now this tells me that this is going to happen here because there is no veil in the next life. so how can we rent the veil if this is after this life. This life is the one that has the veil; in order to rent... in order for the veil to be rent we have to be in this life right now. Mike: excellent. Excellent, now let me give you the last Scripture today. And we go all the way around in a whole circle and Peter says that there are exceedingly great and precious promises available, okay, now I want to show you with the great and Last promise is. Because in the doctrine and covenants the Lord makes the promise, he says it's the great and last promise okay. Any questions on any of this? My gosh, brothers and sisters, stop to think about this for just a minute. Look what's available! Look what's available to us, everybody, man or woman, God is no respecter of persons, all you have to do is meet the conditions, find out what the law is that governs a personal appearance of the Savior, find out what that law is, be obedient to it, and as sure as the sun comes up's in the East and sets in the West you will have a personal audience with the Lord Jesus Christ, Face to face. That is what we re saying. Okay. D & C, here we go, 88. You're going to have to expand your thinking out here now this takes you way out beyond the realm of what ordinarily people think about And versus and 74 and 75. Now I would invite you when you go home today to write these verses down and look at them closely. We re not going to take time to really go into them. We could take a couple of hours just on these verses, but I want you to think about what we've studied today. Think about what we've talk about today and then think about those things as we read these verses. Are you ready? "63- Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently (not just seek, see me diligently) and you shall find me; (Ketch that and other scriptures in the bible say, seek and ye shall find... Seek and you shall find. This is the only place that says seek me and you shall find me, knock) ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Whatsoever ye asked the father in my name it shall be given unto you, that is expedient for you;... ( There is a little clause there that says if you ask for something and you are not ready for it yet - then the Lord will not give it to you, and tell your ready... That's the expedient clause. Go over the page to verse 67) And if (Think about the law now, here's the condition) 66:30 Your eye be single to my glory, (you want to ponder something... what does that mean?) your whole body shall be filled with light, and there shall be no darkness in you; (this is verse 67 and 68) and that body which is filled with light comprehend all things. (Now here we go... here's the promise) Therefore, sanctify yourselves that your minds become single to God, and the days (plural, not day but days. That means this can happen more than once.) will come that you shall see him; for he will unveil his face unto you, and it shall be in his own time, and in his own way, and according to his own will.... (Look at remember, the great and last promise. What is the great and last promise? I will rend the veil, step through, and you shall see me. That's the promise. Over the page, 74) And I give unto you, who are the first laborers in this last kingdom, a commandment you assemble yourselves together, (this is us, brothers and sisters, we are the laborers in the last kingdom. We're in the last days of the last

days...therefore ) and organize yourselves, and prepare yourselves, and sanctify yourselves; yea, purify your hearts, and cleanse your hands and your feet before me, that I may make you clean; (not become, make. Now look, here we go... last verse) that I may testify into your father, and your God, and my God, that you are clean from the blood of this wicked generation; (here we go) that I may fulfill this promise, this great and last promise, which I have made unto you, when I will." And what was the great and last promise? Verse 68, the days will come when you shall see him: for he will unveil his face unto you; in his own time, and in his own way, according to his own will.. There it is. Now all we need to do first of all, brothers and sisters, is to believe that this can actually happen to us, because if you think that this can't happen, even though you think this happens to others, if you think that this can't happen to you... it won't. It won't, because you put the barrier there. Your unbelief that this is unavailable to you stops it and you won't see it. If you can come to a point, through the Holy Ghost, that you believe this is actually a promise available to you, right now, then it s just a matter of time that the spirit will lead you to do what you need to do to qualify for it... and the day will come as sure as anything. Because God is a God of truth and cannot lie. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
