1 PHONE: (972) James "Jim" Lester Bradshaw August 13, January 6, 2011 James Jim Lester Bradshaw, of McKinney, Texas passed away on January 6, Jim was born August 13, 1924, in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, to James Monroe and Mary (Bolt) Bradshaw. On April 11, 1953 he married Doris Bottom, in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death in Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in McKinney, Texas. Jim was a past president of the McKinney Kiwanis Club, and served as a councilman for the City of McKinney. He is survived by his children, Rick Bradshaw of Fort Worth, Texas, Bill Bradshaw and wife Donna of McKinney, Texas, Don Bradshaw and wife Lorie of Elk City, Oklahoma, Agnes Nicely and husband Jim of Allen, Texas, Sue Wilson and husband Danny of Allen, Texas; nineteen grandchildren; eleven greatgrandchildren; sister, Billie Fern Rush of Odessa, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 1615 W. Louisiana Street, McKinney, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Turrentine-Jackson- Morrow Funeral Home. Louisiana McKinney, Texas Memorials We have been out of pocket for the past couple of weeks and just heard about Jim's passing. We are heartbroken that we did not just a chance to show our respects to Jim by attending his visitation and services. Our deepest condolences go out to each of you. Jim's character and demeanor always

2 reminded me of my own Dad. You were blessed to have him as your Dad and I know he felt the same about each of you. We were blessed just by being in his presence. I thank God for sharing him with all of us. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that he while his journey here on earth is complete, he now walks, talks, and rests in the presence of his heavenly Father for eternity. I first got to know Jim on a mission trip with FBC to Evansville, Indiana, several years ago. So kind, so thoughtful. Always with a smile and a good greeting when you saw him. I did not learn of his passing until Saturday evening, after being out of town for the day. I would like to convey my deep respect and fondness for Mr. Bradshaw, and extend my sympathies to the family. What a dear soul. ELAINE AND MIKE BROIIDA, JANUARY 13, 2011 Here is what Jimmie and Doris have done since 1942 to put in a newsletter: "The next week after graduation from HS I went to OKC to take AF physicals for pilot training. There was some paper work mix up and I ended up being sworn in and was to be trained in piper cubs as a spotter for the field artillery. After graduation, I was to be a flying Staff Sergeant but they passed a law that none but commissioned officers could fly, so there were a few thousand of us who were sworn in but they had no place for us and seemed to forget us for

3 about a year. We finally caused so much uproar, calling representatives and senators, etc., that they called us all in and gave us three options--a discharge and immediately be redrafted, accept a commission in the field artillery, or go into the Air Force Cadets as a pilot trainee and that is what I really wanted all the time. I was inducted at Fort Sill and had basic training at Wichita Falls; pretty rough physically--30-mile hikes with full field pack and carbine in the middle of summer! I went to Santa Anna for pre-flight where I was very glad to see you, Dale and Betty Wesner when you visited me. I had some delays in training because of so many in cadets at that time. A semester in Arizona State at Tempe, regular college courses, a while at Luke Field at Phoenix, several months at Douglas, Arizona wiping windshields and gassing planes. They really tried to make it hard on us physically and mentally but they stressed at all times that we were in training to be "Officers and Gentlemen"!. Finally I went to primary training at Thunderbird Field near Phoenix, flying converted Stearman Navy trainers. After graduation, I went to basic training at Tucson flying AT-6s, which up until then were advanced trainers. They seemed pretty hot at the time. I had a choice of going to Luke Field again for fighter pilot training or to Pampa to Fly B-25s. I chose Pampa because it was so close to home. The war ended about a month before I graduated and after a short break in training I signed up for three years and transferred to Enid, OK in order to go on and graduate. I finally got my wings and commission as a Second Lieutenant and was an "Officer and Gentleman" by act of Congress. Less than a year after I signed up I was discharged for convenience of the Government. I had been stationed at San Angelo, Monroe, Louisiana and San Antonio and there were so many of us with all the returning officers from Europe and the Pacific that they offered all who wanted, our discharges. I guess the last several months of my Air Force career were fun. We had no duties except to fly enough to draw our flight pay and it was nice to be an officer but I was ready for civilian life. After discharge, I worked on packsaddle ranch until the next semester of school started at OK State University at Stillwater, OK, A&M then. While at school I was married and a couple of years

4 later we had a son, Rick. In the meanwhile Red Males had offered me a job at the Bank in Cheyenne and I took it. Rick's mother died in In 1954 Doris and I were married and we had four children--bill, Agnes, Don, and Sue. We are very proud of all five of our children. They all graduated from college with degrees and are doing well. We now have eight grandchildren with all families fairly close. We had moved from the Cheyenne Bank to a bank in McKinney, Texas in January 1966 and I retired from that bank in December 1986, 18 years at Cheyenne and 21 years at McKinney, all in banking. I ended up as Executive Vice President and Trust Officer, was director and on the Executive Committee of the $100,000,000 bank. Doris and I really enjoy retirement. We travel quite a lot and have gone to a number of countries, nearly all of Europe, cruised the Mediterranean, Greek Islands, Greece, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Yugoslavia, Venice and other parts of Italy. We cruised Alaska and through the Panama Canal. We have had three trips to Hawaii, several to Mexico, Acapulco, Mexico City and some parts of Canada. We have traveled to a good number of the United States, west to California, east to New York and northeast to watch the leaves fall; Southeast to Florida and most in between. I guess I could sum it up by just saying we have had a good life and have been extremely fortunate in most part of it. We have truly been blessed by the Lord having some success and good health most of the time." NELLYE ANNE (CROSS) MEINTSMA, JANUARY 11, 2011 To the Family of Jim Bradshaw: I heard recently from my daughter who lives in McKinney as I did for 25 years and I was saddened to learn of Jim's passing. What a great man - full of life and an example for anyone to follow. He was helpful to me many times, not only in banking matters, but also in decisions about the First Baptist Church. We served together in several areas and he was a great Christian and I look forward to fellow shipping with him in Heaven. WINFRED(WINN) P. CAROLYN MCCARLEY, JANUARY 10, 2011 I first got to know Jim when we went to Brazil in 2002 with W & A team. He soon became a great friend and I enjoyed seeing him in choir on Wednesdays and Sundays. I am deeply saddened I did not hear of his passing until this morning. I will miss him tremendously and treasure the wonderful memories. I will also miss the smile he had for everyone. This is a wonderful witness to each of us that, of course, life is never perfect but it can be a great trip if we choose to make it such. Jim chose to make it such and his joy and faith spilled over to all of us who knew him. We feel for each of you in your loss but rejoice with you that you had him as a father. 6 always sat next to each other at Kiwanis and enjoying talking. He was a hero in my eyes because he flew B-25's in WWII but he would always tell me that it was at the end of the war. He was a fine gentleman, a good Christian and a friend. He served his community and the Lord for many years. I will miss him.
