The families may pick-up those candles and keep them after our 10:30am worship. In addition, those in our congregation who were baptized since last All Saints Day will be honored as well. We are grateful to remember and honor the saints in heaven and the saints on earth! We hope this is a good remembrance of Glenn, Norma and Dot, and the Lord who shone through their good works, and who did a good work in them, bringing their life to completion in the good fight of faith.

2 COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS Discussed strategy for presenting building repair/updates in the near future. Finalized plans for employee evaluations. Heard an update from the Nominating Committee. Pg. 2 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22, 23 November NATIONAL ORGAN DONOR MONTH November 1 is All Saints Sunday and the month of November is National Organ Donor month!!! November 1 is All Saints Sunday. Audrey Mayer, Kris Vandenberg & Dorcella Sunday will be giving a temple talk about The Ultimate Gift of Life as November is National Organ Donor month!! You will find out how you can be an organ donor, helping as many as 8 people when you pass away. All ages are eligible. There will be a place to register in the Atrium.

3 Pg. 3 Thanksgiving Eve Worship Wed, Nov 25 12noon & 7pm LITTLE LAMBS UPDATE Little Lambs is having their Fall Halloween Party on Friday October 30 at 1:45pm in Eljah s Cave. Church members are invited to attend to watch the little goblins show off their costumes and have some cookies. Our school director, Janna Olivares, will be on maternity leave in December and January. She will be temporarily replaced by Victoria Mendez (nee Grona) during her absence. The Little Lambs Advisory Council had a baby shower for Janna at our October meeting. We are already making plans for our Grand Christmas Party. The date is December 10 at 1:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. Santa and Mrs. Santa will again be there along with the Fredericksburg High School Elves. Zion children and grandchildren are invited and we will have presents for all the children, and sing Christmas songs. Lunch will also be provided, its going to be a great day.

4 Thankoffering Sunday 11/15 For more than 100 years, Lutheran women have given thanks to God and dollars to mission through Thankofferings. November 15 is Thankoffering Sunday at Zion. Please use the enclosed envelope to support Women of the ELCA with your Thankoffering. As we collect the Thankoffering today, we share in a tradition dating back to the 1800s, when Christian women formed mite or cent societies to fund mission. When others in the church said there was not enough money to carry out these projects, the women believed otherwise. In these societies, each woman collected offerings at home. On occasion, they would gather as we do today to worship and combine their offerings and offer them up with thanks and praise. When Women of the ELCA was formed nearly 30 years ago, we committed to continue this tradition of giving in gratitude for blessings. Each year, in thousands of congregations, Thank-offerings are collected and sent to support the life-changing ministries of Women of the ELCA. Together, we do more than we could ever do apart. In gratitude for all God has given to us, and with hope for all that is to come, we now collect our Thankoffering. Thankofferings show gratitude for God s blessings and give us an important and tangible way to express that gratitude. It is a tradition grounded in our celebration of community, of meeting together to joyfully give thanks for what God has given us. Thankofferings have always been, and still are, our opportunity to say thank you to God in both significant and ordinary moments. 5 SPECIAL CONCERN Der Stadt Friedhof (The City Cemetery) was formed when 32 acres of land was purchased for a local cemetery. In 2000 the property was designated a state historical cemetery. Bethany, Holy Ghost and Zion all budget money to support the cemetery. Special offering envelopes are provided to all members of the 3 churches for support and contributions to the cemetery. We thank you for your continued support to maintain cemetery operations for the present and the future. Heartfelt thanks for the special contributions made by individuals and families. A committee of church representatives was formed to handle the responsibility of maintaining and managing the cemetery property and operations, and meets the last Monday of the month at Zion. Pg. 5 LUTHERAN MEN IN MISSION NEWS Gary McVey was elected to serve out the unexpired term of Vice President Paul Goldenbaum who was elected President of the Southwestern Texas Synod Men in Mission at the recent assembly in Corpus Christi, Texas. GIDEONS On November 8 Clarence Dykstra, a member of Gideons International, will be making a presentation at both worship services.

Our family cannot even begin to express our gratitude for the amount of prayers, meals, kind words and gifts that have been sent our way since the fire that claimed all our belongings. We have begun writing individual thank you letters, but in the whirlwind of the past few weeks, we might miss one here or there. Trust us, we are thankful for every single card, letter, kind note and gift that was given to us. As we put our life back together we appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers. Our journey toward a new life has just begun, but this amazing network of family and friends will provide us with enough prayer warriors to get us through anything.
