1742- Handel's Messiah premieres in Dublin Thomas Jefferson was born st Pony Express reaches Sacramento Butch Cassidy was born. His real name was Robert Leroy Parker, he s the son of Mormon parents Max and Annie Parker.
1902- J C Penney opens his 1st store in Kemmerer, Wyoming Hank Aaron's played his 1st game for the then Milwaukee Braves Sydney Poitier becomes the first African American to win the Oscar for Best Actor, for Lilies of the Field Pop stars The Beatles began recording their second movie soundtrack Help.
Interestingly, it was also on April 13, 1970 that Apollo 13 commander Jimmie Lovell announced "Houston, we've got a problem!" as their Beech-built oxygen tank explodes en route to Moon, some 200,000 miles from earth.
Oakland uses gold-colored bases during the club's home opener Rules Committee subsequently bans this innovation US announced a boycott of the Summer Olympics in Moscow.
Federal Reserve begins issuing $2 Bicentennial notes CBS cancelled Pat Sajak's late night TV show st annual Masters Golf Championship: Tiger Woods wins his first major at age 21. (18 under par).
Life is not stagnant. It doesn t stand still. Every 24 hrs., life moves ahead once again, regardless of the day s events. Each day is unique and each moment - special. Today may be one of the best day of your life (Young Hank Aaron) or one of the worst (crew of the Apollo 13), but as the wise man once said This too shall pass.
Apollo 13 left the Kennedy Center at exactly 13:13 hours on April 11. CMP John Jack Swigert Jr. wasn t supposed to be on that flight. He was scheduled for Apollo 14, but was moved up to 13 when CMP Ken Mattingly was exposed to German measles. Lucky him.
21 This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. 22 [That] The LORD'S lovingkindness indeed never ceases; His compassions never fail. 23 {They} are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness. 24 "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I have hope in Him."
25 The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him. 26 {It is} good that one waits silently for the salvation of the LORD.
God s Refreshing Love is ever new His Mercy is unending but it is precisely because of these Truths that each day of my life promises a new beginning.
God was angered at Israel. She had not honored Him in many days. But in the midst of trouble, the lamenting Jeremiah found these promises encouraging. That even though Israel did not deserve it, God s lovingkindness indeed never ceases, His compassions never fail, meaning He is the God of the New Day And (symbolically speaking) with each dawn, there comes a new opportunity to try again to use THAT day to honor Him.
The church of Christ is like Moses' bush, burning, yet not consumed; whatever hardships she has met with, or may meet with, she shall always have a place in the world to the end of time (Matt 16:18). As Paul said, we may be persecuted of men, but not forsaken of God, cast down, but not destroyed (2 Cor. 4:9), corrected, yet not consumed, refined as it were in the furnace as silver, but not consumed as dross, (Ezek. 22:18).
Remember my affliction and my wandering, the wormwood and bitterness. Surely my soul remembers and is bowed down within me. This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. (Lam. 3:19-21) Hope in the Bible is faithful expectation for the future.
It is precisely because GOD IS FAITHFUL that a man can believe in his future. When the bottom drops out. When you experience some great calamity. When you suffer through an unwanted divorce, or the death of a someone you loved. What happens to you when you re forced to undergo and intense personal illness or you find yourself 200,00 miles from home without a spare oxygen tank?
"The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I have hope in Him. He is saying the LORD fills up my every need. He completely allots me the strength I need to finish the day in victory. He is my sufficiency.
Our God is, and ever will be, the all-sufficient God of genuine happiness for his people every morning of our lives. My portion on earth are but a perishing things, but my portion of happiness and hope in Jehovah God endures forever.
When Jeremiah s eyes fail[ed] because of tears... and his spirit [was] greatly troubled and his heart [was] poured out on the earth, MY BIBLE Says - he still hoped in the Lord.
I ll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness, the taste of ashes, the poison I ve swallowed. I remember it all oh, how well I remember the feeling of hitting the bottom. But there s one other thing I also remember, and remembering, I keep a grip on hope:
GOD'S Loyal Love couldn t have run out, his Merciful Love couldn t have dried up. They re re-created new every morning. How great His faithfulness! I m sticking with GOD (I say it over and over).
And our GOD IS good to the man who passionately waits for Him, and to the woman who diligently seeks Him. It s a good thing to quietly hope, to quietly hope for help from GOD. It s a good thing when you re young to stick it out through the hard times.
Everyday has its uniqueness. Everyday has its possibilities. This life is not stagnant. Every 24 hrs., life moves ahead once again, regardless of the day s events. Which means that each new day brings a unique and special moment to us all - to see God and know Him and His love.
About to sing a new song, add a President to the family, complete a journey, start a business, begin a new career, make history? Trust in God. Or maybe you have a real problem, Houston. Your choices have proven foolish, your plans have been changed, your show cancelled. What do you do? Trust in God.
Remember that God s merciful love is new every morning. If it s a hard day -This too shall pass. If it is a better day- do not despair. (Lam. 3:25-26) The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him. {It is} good that he waits quietly for the salvation of the LORD.
Yea, "New Every Morning," though we may awake, Our hearts with old sorrow beginning to ache; With old work unfinished when night stayed our hand, With new duties waiting, unknown and unplanned;
With old care still pressing, to fret and to vex, With new problems rising, our minds to perplex. In ways long familiar, in paths yet untrod, Oh, New Every Morning be the mercies of God!
His faithfulness fails not; it meets each new day. New guidance for every new step of the way; New grace for new trials, new trust for old fears, New patience for bearing the wrongs of the years,
New strength for new burdens, new courage for old, New faith for whatever the day may unfold; As fresh for each need as the dew on the sod; Oh, new every morning the mercies of God!
Seeking a new beginning? Come now. Be Born-Again. Become a new creature. Be saved.
