04 1 Nephi 7 by Mike Stroud Mike: 1 Nephi chapter 7, we have a problem with the Lehi colony at this point. The problem is is that their boys have nobody they can marry and the girls have nobody that they can marry and they can t intermarry. So we have got a problem with one family to need some spouses, some husbands and wives. It s interesting that some scholars think that Ishmael, who they re going back, there is a pretty good feel that their family, that their related, that there are more than just friends. And the reason they think that is how could they talk a person into leaving everything and going into the wilderness. In verse five, we have a little key where this says where the Lord did soften the heart of Ishmael and his household. Okay, so we have some spiritual things going on there, that some of the book of Mormon scholars, and we can t prove this, think that Soriah and Ishmael our brother and sister. Okay? That Lehi s wife and Ishmael are brother and sister. Now we can t prove that, but it would be all surprising to me to see that. And if there that closely related it would also go a long way in answering how they were able to convince them, along with the Lord working at it, to leave everything they ve got. Because that s no small thing to pack up your whole family and head off into the wilderness. You have to tell them about the promise of a promised land. You would have two tell them about the destruction of Jerusalem. But with all that Ishmael and his family would have to believe Lehi and that whole story in order to make a conscious decision to poll away. Go ahead Steve. Steve: Although that is entirely possible, they could be friends to, because that is what happened with us. He told me about the Philippines and I left my land and everything I knew and came over here to restart over again. Mike: Good point. Steve: So it s not entirely impossible. Mike: They could just be friends. That is right. And again, we don t know. You go to the bottom of verse one it says that it wasn t good that Lehi s family into go into the wilderness alone; but that his son should take daughters to wife, that they might raise up seed unto the Lord... Now are going to find out a little later that Ishmael is a descendent of Ephraim, and Lehi is a descendent of Manasseh. So where do you have Ishmael s family and Lehi s family come together you have a representation of both the sons of Joseph. And it all makes sense again that this record, this whole colony, the brass plates, everything that we have got going here is a record of Joseph. Okay. Let s go on down, in Lehi there is a rebellion in verse 7. Okay, it doesn t take very long and everybody starts to rebel, in verse 6 there murmuring against each other. The sons of Ishmael and their families, did rebel against us; yea, against me, Nephi, and Sam, and their father, Ishmael, and his wife, and his three other daughters. and so we ve got this rebellion and Nephi ask a whole string of interesting questions. So let s look at his questions starting in verse 8. I ve got it listed in my book as Nephi s questions. Are there are seven of them, sister Stroud? And a little note here that it s really easy to forget God s mercy. It s a great problem remembering his mercy is difficult; naturally difficult for the natural man. Unless you get in a hard place; then there is no foxholes or there s no atheist in foxholes type thing. let s look at the questions. Let s go down to the middle of verse 8. Speaking to Lehman and Lemuel, you...are my elder brothern, and how is it that ye are so hard in your hearts, and so blind in your minds, that ye have need that I, your younger brother, should speak unto you, yea, and set an example for you? now how do you think that made Lehman and Lemuel feel? Student: angry Mike: oh boy! Now here s the question, How is it that ye have not hearkened unto the word of the Lord? and we might ask ourselves the same questions. How well in my doing, you know, I will of my doing; and my harkening to the voice of the spirit? Verse 10, How is it that ye have forgotten that ye have seen an Angel of the Lord? seeing how that s a good question. Verse 11, how is it that ye have forgotten what great things the Lord hath done for us, in delivering us out of the hands of Laban, and also that we should obtain the record? 12, how is it that ye have forgotten that the Lord is

able to do all things according to his will, for the children of men, if it so be that they exercise faith in him? let us be faithful and here is the promise, if we do, we shall obtain the land of promise any questions or comments on that list of questions? Student: it s interesting that he says, if it so be that we are faithful to him again it s the power of faith. Mike: yup. Let s get on down to verse 15. Finally Nephi, I get the feeling that Nephi finally just gets to the end of his rope. Do you want to read that Steve, verse 15. Steve: Now behold, I say unto you that if ye will return to Jerusalem you shall also perish with them. And now, if you have choice, go up to the land, and remember the words which I speak unto you, that if you go you will also perish; for thus the spirit of the Lord constraineth with me that I should speak. Mike: in verse 14 it also says that they have taken Jeremiah captive and thrown him into prison. This is a historical fact. Okay? And he says, that s already happened and they tried to kill my dad, Jeremiah they thrown into prison, everything that my father has prophesied has been fulfilled. Now if you want to go back so bad... go. I find it interesting that once the door is open they don t go. Why? Instead they get mad at him and tie him up with cords. This was their chance to go and they did do it. What do you think? Student: who was it they tied Lehi or Nephi? Mike: Nephi. So he says you can go. You want to go, you ve been complaining about this, here s what s happened back there. You ve heard what dad said, Jeremiah is imprisoned they tried to kill your father, now go on back. But remember the Lord told me that if you do you will die. And they don t. Student: the ball is in their court. Mike: they don t go, the balls in your court. All right? let s take an look at verse 16, They did bind me with cords, for they sought to take away my life, that they might leave me in the wilderness to be devoured by wild beasts. verse 17 is a verse that teaches and principles that we call the strength of the Lord and brother David Bednar, his first general conference address as a member of the quorm of the 12, was Wasn t it? Student: no, it was before. He was still president the University. Mike: Arkansas or Ricks? Student: was he in Ricks? Mike: yes, he was the president of Ricks. Okay, he gave a great talk called In the strength of the Lord, and in this he uses verse 17 as one of his main takeoff Scriptures on that. ullett, do you want to read 17? Mullet: okay, But it came to pass that I prayed unto the Lord, saying: O Lord, according to my faith which is in thee, wilt thou deliver me from the hands of my brothern; yea, even give me strength that I may burst these bands with which I am bound. Mike: and when he says that prayer look at verse 18, the bands were loosed from off my hands and feet, and I stood in front of my brothern... now 19, they go to grant him again, But the woman steps in, one of the daughters of Ishmael steps in and pleads for his life. Now look at your footnote on 19a, and you will see that it takes you to know or want Nephi 16:7. here in over there and see what happens, look at that footnote. 1 Nephi 16:7, and let s read what it says there. Sister Stroud, 1 Nephi 16:7. Sister Stroud: and it came to pass that I, Nephi, took one of the daughters of Ishmael to wife; and also, my brother took of the daughters of Ishmael to wife; and also Zoram took the eldest daughter of Ishmael to wife. Mike: so this daughter of Ishmael over here that is pleading for Nephi s life is his future wife. Student: and also her mama is. Mike: yes, well because of that they did soften their hearts; and they did cease striving to take away my life. verse 21 is interesting. And it came to pass that I did frankly forgive them... Okay? Student: wow

Mike: I did frankly forgive them for all of that; and let s go over the page and I think that s chapter 7 pretty much. Chapter 8 we ve already done in great detail. So I don t think we re going to go over it for this, because we ve already done that. So those of you who are listening to this; study it on your own. Student: this is interesting, it looks like they did the same thing to Nephi that Joseph s brothers did to him. In fact they tore up his coat of many colors and said some wild animal got to him; and it seems like they wanted to do the same thing to Nephi. Mike: good analogy, yeah, good analogy same kind of things. [10:01] Let s go to chapter 9. Chapter 9 talks about the two sets of records. Student: could you do a summary on 8? Mike: yeah The best I can t do a summary on 7, I can t do a summary on it it s so in-depth. To the best thing to do What we will do on the site we will put a handout on the tree of life that they can read. And go that route because I ve taught a two hour class on that. So let s go to chapter 9. Chapter 9 talks about the two sets of plates that Nephi is commanded to make. Aand he uses He calls these plates and those other plates. So what he s talking about these plates he is talking about the small plates of Nephi. And when ever he talks about the other plates is talking about the large plates. Keeping two sets of records here. Student: and where reading from the small plates? Mike: yeah, where reading from small plates. Let s look at verse 2, I have spoken concerning these plates, behold they are not the plates upon which I make a full account of the history of my people; for the plates upon which I make a full account of my people I have given that name of Nephi; wherefore, they are called the plates of Nephi, after mine own name; and these plates also are called the plates of Nephi. verse three, sister Stroud. Sister Stroud: Nevertheless, I have received a commandment of the Lord that I should make these plates, for a special purpose that there should be an account engraven of the Ministry of my people. Mike: so on the small plates in spiritual things, it s revelations, it s prophesying, it s about Christ and his ministry. On the large plates, verse 4 brother Steve. Steve: upon the other plates should be engraven an account of the reign of the Kings, and the wars and contentions of my people; wherefore these plates are for the more part of the ministry; and the other plates are for the more part of the reign of the Kings and the wars and contentions of my people. Mike: now it s interesting that Nephi does not really understand why he is being commanded to keep two sets of plates. And you can see that in verse five where he says I do this which is in a wise purpose for the Lord which purpose I know not. Now, we ve got a footnote there (wise), let s go to the words of Mormon. Words of Mormon... Words of Mormon, Jacob, Enos, Jarom, Omni, Words of Mormon, just before the book of Mosiah. And keep your finger here on 1 Nephi 9, and let s go over to the words of Mormon and look at the date on the bottom of the page on 1 Nephi 9; it says between 600 and 592 BC. Now, go over to the Words of Mormon at the date. 385 A.D., so what we ve done is we gone from the beginning of the book of Mormon all the way to the very end of the book of Mormon. Mormon did was, that when he came across these plates he felt like he needed to make a little explanation of why I ve taken the small plates of Nephi and inserted them right here. So you people, in the last days, know why you have these separate records here. Then it s interesting if you go over to verse 3, I m making an abridgment, go down three lines, I had made an abridgment from the plates of Nephi, down to the reign of this King Benjamin and then down a couple of more lines, and I found these plates, which contained a small account of the prophets, from Jacob down to the rate of this King Benjamin therefore, verse four, these plates are very pleasing to me verse 5, I chose these things, [these plates] to finish my record upon them, which remainder of my record I shall take from the plates of Nephi; over the page, verse 7, I ve done what I am doing here a wise purpose, now go back over there and look at Nephi 9 verse 5... Nephi says, I do this for a wise purpose, I don t know why. And

go back over here to Mormon, he says I do this for a wise purpose; and thus it was birthed me according to the workings of the spirit. So I really don t know why I m doing these things but the spirit has instructed me to take this little set of plates that I have found in this great big library and to put them right here and set them right in an exact place. So if you were to look at the plates of Mormon abridge the first of its would be from the book of Lehi. And then down somewhere after that he inserts the little small plates of Nephi. And both Nephi the Lord says keep this a record separate, don t make it a part of piglets keep it separate. Then when Mormon finds in the same spirit says take them up with them right here, don t put it here, but right here. And neither one of them knows why. And we don t know why until we get down to Doctrine and Covenants section 10; and we find that Martin Harris loses the first transcript of the book of Mormon. And we know that whole story there. Here is an interesting thing, all of this is taken place about 600 BC. And Martin Harris comes around about So you ve got over 2000 years looking into the future where the Lord that Satan would set a trap and the already took into account with his foreknowledge Here is what you do, Satan set a trap but don t worry about it, I ve already got it covered. See how that works, okay. Let s look at verse 6. sister Millett, verse 6 in 1 Nephi 9. sister Millett: but the Lord knoweth all things from the beginning; wherefore, he prepareth a way to accomplish all his works among the children of men; for behold, he has all power unto the fulfilling of all his words. And thus it is. Amen. Mike: there are three principles found in verse 6. let s look at them, number 1, the Lord knows all things from the beginning; number 2, he prepares a way to accomplish all his work among the children of men; and number 3, he has all power into the fulfilling of all his words. He can do everything. There are 3 great gospel principles right there In verse 6. okay, any questions or comments? Any thoughts on that? Student: have you ever thought that if only you can go back into time you could change whatever? Well it s almost a science-fiction thing and I don t want to degrade any of the gospel or anything like that. But it s almost like God went back in time to make sure that that was recovered. Mike: pretty good. let s go to chapter 10 and look at the heading and I ll show you something I have found that is interesting. Lehi predicts the Babylonian captivity and tells the coming among the Jews of a Messiah Not the Messiah A Messiah A Savior and A Redeemer. isn t that interesting wording? Why does he say, telling the coming from among the Jews of The Messiah, The Savior, The Redeemer. Why do you think that so? Student: I ve always wondered about that also. not just here, but in another place where it says a Messiah will come. Mike: what can we learn from that? student: you think that there is more than one of All those things. Mike: exactly. So what we learn that Joseph Smith taught us was that our heavenly father fulfilled the role of a Messiah, a Savior and a Redeemer. So your father was one of those, the father of your spirit was also a Messiah, a Savior, and a Redeemer. He tells us of the coming of the one who should baptize the Lamb. now you are talking about a specific. See, John the Baptist. Lehi tells of death and resurrection of the Messiah, the one that the one would baptize, Etc. etc. Okay? Any thoughts on that? Let s go on down to verse 1, And now I, Nephi, proceed to give an account upon these plates which plates? Student: these would be the small plates Mike: these are the small plates. So here he is starting now at this point is starting to make a record on the small plates, this is the beginning of the small plates. Everything else you got here is on the large plates. of my proceedings, and my reign and ministry; that tells you that he is a priest and the King. Remember we talked about that. Wherefore, to proceed with my account, I must speak somewhat of the things of my father, and let s get on over to verse 4, here is some prophesying. six-hundred

years from the time that my father left Jerusalem, a prophet with the Lord God raise up among the Jews even a Messiah, or, in other words, a Savior of the world. [20:04] And he also spake concerning the prophets, how great a number had testified of these things, concerning this Messiah, of whom he had spoken, or this Redeemer of the world. Wherefore, all mankind were in a lost and in a fallen state, and ever would be safe they should rely on this redeemer. that is my take on Scripture on the lost and fallen state of mankind. That s the one that I use as my spinoff Scripture that goes into that whole area.. Let s talk about that for just a second. Did you ever stop to think that it s impossible for heavenly father to save this children without a Messiah, without a Savior, and without a redeemer? You asked the question, is there anything that is impossible for God to do, our heavenly father? it s an interesting question. Because in some places In the Scriptures it says that with God nothing is impossible. But there are some things that are impossible for him to do. For example: he s not ever, ever, ever going to break a commandment. He s not ever, ever, ever going to violate a law. Because it tells us that if he ever did one of those things he would cease to be God just like that. Have you ever stop to think what would happen if God ceased to be God? Think about that for just a minute. If he were to violate one commandment, at that point he would be God no longer, but what happened in the universe if God ceased to be God? Well there are other gods above him who would still rule and reign but was in his kingdom everything would immediately revert to chaos and disorganization. Did you stop to think about that? Because he holds everything within his power. Everything is organized by law. Everything has a law, there is no kingdom, no space, anywhere where there isn t a law. And God is 100% totally obedience to law. And because he is, he is who he is. So if you stop to think about this lost and fallen state there are some things that are impossible for him to do, yet, there s one thing that s a possible for him to do. He cannot save his children once they leave his presence and go into a mortal world. Think about it That s us. Think about it, if there were no savior, and God let s say that you leave this presence, but there is no savior, no Redeemer, no Messiah; all there is his father and he sends his children out of his presence, down through the veil, into a lost and fallen world, he loses them all; and it s impossible for God, the father, to never save a one of his children. Why? [23:30] student: this is an idea that I ve been playing with. It s like he s living in a static superclean room and he cannot touch anything filthy. He needs a go-between something like that. Mike: you re hitting on it. You re hitting on it and you re barking up the right tree. Student: He is already a perfected being. He has already been redeemed, he can t die for us because he s already immortal. Mike: he has a resurrected body. And go back to What did it require Nephi to do in order to obtain the plates when he couldn t obtain them by persuasion? Could he obtained them by purchase? He could only obtain them by blood. So it required the death of the person in order to obtain those plates. Heavenly father can t die. He is a resurrected man. He can t die and in order to redeem is children it requires death in order to bring them back. Because the plan requires the death, suffering, bloodshed oof a redeeming one; and heavenly father can t do it because he is a resurrected, immortal, glorified Man. [24:48] so you stop and think about that principle for just a minute, the minute every one of his children leave his presence, without his son, none of us would ever make it back; And he would let everyone of his children. So now you look at it and see. Think about, think about the pressure, think about the consequences if the Savior had not followed through and did what he did father lost every one of his children forever. So, in Gethsemane when the presses on and the atoning one says, if possible this cup pass from me, all of eternity must have just gasped. Because we all understood that if this doesn t happen, that which were watching, this doesn t happen, the father is helpless to save any of his children. You are all lost. So when it says here in verse 6, all mankind were in a lost and in a fallen state, and ever would be safe they should rely on this redeemer. father loses every child, except one. And that is Jesus. Why? Why wouldn t he lose Jesus? Student: because he s perfect.

Mike: because he s perfect, And even though he came down into this world, he is not lost and fallen. Sister Stroud. Sister Stroud: so does that mean that God had to exercise faith in Jesus Christ. Because there is always that things That he had to have faith. Student: faith That is true. Mike: and that faith is based on experience, because even though Jesus was perfect in this life. And we know that he didn t commit one sin, no wrong thought, no wrong deed, nothing absolutely perfect. that s not all, he was perfect from the time he was conceived as the firstborn. All through those eons of time, before the world was even created, the son is perfect. So through all that, he can look at him when he says, I will go and do this, I ll go and do this Everyone because of who he was, because of eons of time, in proving he can do what he did; when he said, I ll do this, everybody can sit back and say, yes he will, and it will be accomplished. And you can have total faith in the coming redemption of man to this person. Student: and the Savior would also have those powers from each one of us billions of kids praying for him to do that in our behalf. So, it s just like down here, when somebody needs help, so what do we all do?, we all pray for him so they have those added prayers and faith of everybody that s involved in praying. So, Christ also received power from each one of the spirits in the spirit world. Mike: good thought. Student: that means that not only does the atonement go into the past and the future in space and time, but also our prayers can transcend space and time. Mike: that s a great thought. [28:05] here is another thought that comes to my mind. In the war in heaven, one of the tactics that Satan probably used was this He would look at people who were faltering and say, do you realize that if he slips the slightest little bit, it doesn t take a great sin, but if he just slips the slightest little bit, the whole thing is over. the slightest little indiscretion and this thing is over. Student: that s why you ve been on the cross he had to forgive them, because if he didn t, if he was even holding a grudge, it would be a sin. Even at bad thought. He has to forgive them. Mike: even a bad thought. Student: he could still judge righteously and he forgave the Romans but not the Pharisees. Mike: but needs to maintain that state of perfection, and innocence all the way through an order for the atonement to have its full power. So I can see Satan of people and saying, yes he s been perfect Yeah he has been perfect here but he s about to take upon himself the body, and this is a whole different ballgame. This is different, and you realize that if he slips ONCE down there in mortality that he can t perform this. Do you realize that? And that may have been a real twister for people. Student: and he s going to have human blood coursing through him, or whatever. Student 1: that s where faith comes in. Those who have faith. Mike: so it s an interesting concept isn t it? Lost and fallen state area it lets go over the page. He sees John the Baptist in verse 9, he sees John the Baptist, look at the date 600 years BC. He sees John the Baptist baptize Christ, verse 10, And after he had baptized the Messiah with water, he should behold and bear record that he had baptized the Lamb of God, who should take away the sins of the world. [30:07] Student: I notice it s not WOULD take away the sins but SHOULD, and leaves it up to your faith to whether or not he would, but if it says he would do it that is a certain thing but he should do it. Mike: and look at verse 11 too, 600 BC. Look with the prophet saw, sister Stroud, would you read 11. Sister Stroud: and it came to pass after my father had spoken these words he spake unto my brethren concerning the gospel what should be preached among the Jews, and also concerning the dwindling of the Jews in unbelief. And after they had slain the Messiah, who should come, and after he had been

slain he should rise from the dead, and should make himself manifest, by the Holy Ghost, unto the Gentiles. Mike: so look at that, you have the ministry, the death, the suffering, the crucifixion, and the resurrection of Christ all and one verse understood by these people 600 years before the birth of Christ. But these were understood by Adam. These people don t know anymore here that Adam and every prophet from Enoch, all the way up to Noah, Abraham, all of them understood this. Moses all of them understood this. And it was written in their records, so basically, what they re doing is when they quote this coming of the Messiah, they re just quoting a record that they have on the brass plates that have already testified of it. Student: what s with all the shoulds, while this will, will do this, will And should? Mike: good question, I don t know. Good question. Let s go up to verse 14. Take a look at 14, this is interesting, and after the house of Israel should be scattered they should be gathered together again; now, the gathering of Israel, I found a little jewel by the prophet Joseph Smith that help me understand the gathering of Israel. Okay. The book of Mormon talks a lot about the scattering and the gathering of Israel, and probably what I need to do is take a Saturday class and go over the scattering of Israel for our members so they can understand that. But here s a quote by the prophet Joseph Smith, what was the object of gathering the people of God in any age of the world? This is the question that the prophet asked. The main object was to build unto the Lord a house whereby he could reveal unto his people the ordinances of his house and the glories of his Kingdom, and teach the ways of salvation; for there are certain ordinances and principles that when they are taught and practiced must be done in a place or house built for that purpose. so, the whole purpose of the gathering of Israel is to bring God s children to the temple and give them their temple blessings. So every time you read about the gathering of the house of Israel,, according to the prophet there s only one real purpose for that, to bring them from their scattered, lost and fallen state, gather them into the church where they receive their identity and then take them from the church to the temple where they can receive receive the blessings; Restore tthem to a true knowledge and covenants of the gospel of Jesus Christ and their Redeemer. And if you look at that in verse 10 [14] it says, after the house of Israel should be scattered they should be gathered together again and I put it... in temples or, in fine, after the Gentiles had received the fullness of the gospel, the natural branches of the Olive tree, or the remnant of the house of Israel, should be gathered in, For what purpose? What is this all about? or come to the knowledge of the true Messiah, their Lord and their Redeemer. see that last statement there, that s why you re gathered to the temples, and that s what you get in the temples is You come to a true knowledge of the Messiah, their Lord and their Redeemer. So when you go to the temple you learn who Christ really is and in the process of learning to Christ really is at the same time you learn who you really are. that s the purpose of the temple. Okay, let s go on down and look at verse 16. there are some wonderful principles here that are going to teach this Saturday actually, but let s look at verse 16. Brother Steve. Steve: and all these things, of which I have spoken, worked on as my father world is a tent, in the Valley of Lemual. Mike: go to verse 17. Steve: and it came to pass after I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, concerning the things which he saw in a vision, and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, which power he received by faith of the son of God and the son of God was the Messiah who should come Mike: okay stop right there. So the vision Here is what s happened Lehi has told all of his kids, all of his family, Ishmal s family, and he set them all down and he told him about the dream of the tree of life in the eighth chapter. And he explained it to them. Nephi, after you heard about the dream explained in detail and also the other prophecies of his father, pick up right there, and see, I Nephi, I, Nephi, was

desirous also that I might see, and hear, and all of the things, by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of God and to all those who diligently seek him, as well in times of old as in times that he should manifest himself unto the children of men. Mike: okay stop right there. so Nephi s heard everything that he wants to take it to another level. Nephi not only heard and listen to what his dad saw, Nephi wants to see, and hear, and know for himself. What? So what he is saying is I want to see the vision myself, I want to see what dad saw, and I want to have revealed to me in the same way with my father had by the power the Holy Ghost. That s a great principle. Okay? because I ll teach this in Saturday at our class, but what Nephi is telling you here is: anything you see in the Scriptures, anything in the Bible, any miracle, any prophecy, any visitation, anything that has happened from Adam up to our day; can happen to you. You can see it all. There is no restriction. And I will developed this and build on this in my classes. The class on Saturday is called exceeding great and precious promises. Sister Stroud. Sister Stroud: I personally believe that there will be a point in our times that this is the dispensation of the fullness of times, and everything, all of the miracles all of the things that are recorded in Scripture will be repeated in this dispensation. I believe personally, this is my own personal feelings, as we have this winding up scene and the world deteriorates we get to the point where there is going to be the feeding of the 5000 or how many with just a small amount of food. There s going to be the miraculous change, not necessarily, water to wine but water to clean and clear Mike: the parting of oceans sister Stroud: it s going to be like Moses and he smote the rock to bring forth water. I personally believe that all those types of things will repeat themselves here, otherwise, why does it matter, if the children of Israel were thirsty and they got water out of a rock? What has that to do with me? Well he made a miracle, why didn t they just say he made a miracle. To me, in the Saturdays when we have the Scriptures in our possession, because prior a few centuries back, they didn t even have Scriptures. and so it tells me that there was it written for a purpose, and I have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. But I think it s also as a precursor to what s going have to take place in order to Mike: survive sister Stroud: get through these perilous times that are ahead. Mike: I agree with that and I I. We already know, we ve been told that the opposite, the trials and tribulations, that are coming before the second coming eclipse anything that s happened in the world. And so if the law of opposition is true, then you have the worst; you ve got to have the best. If you have the worst opposition; you have to have the greatest miracles. And I believe that too. I believe that. Sister Stroud: why did he raise Lazarus? Why did he bring you back? He sat there and waited 4 days until he was dead. But, you know, Lazarus is dying, come, come, come...a little later, and he waits until he is dead, but he s been embalmed and thrown into the tomb, and he still kind of just wanders in like it s no big deal. So why didn t he just heal him on the spot? Why did he just say the word like this centurion s son? Just go on back, he is healed. But he waited, and there s got to be a reason for that. Mike: also look at this see, hear, and know. Notice that everything comes in threes. So Nephi wants to see, hear, and know. Next to the see, I ve put seek; next to that hear, I put ask; and next to the know, I put knock. See, so everything is in threes There. Comes in threes. In the temple there is a certain place where you go and you hear somebody go (rap, rap, rap)... see. And then there is a discussion and after the discussion, somebody goes One, two, three. (rap, rap, rap) Why three, why not 4? why not 2? Why not 6? three, so everything is that number. Look at verse 18, here s another three, for God is the same yesterday, today, and forever; what yesterday, today, and forever; past, present, and future; so there are all these threes that come up over and over. And the way, think of John 14, I am the way, the truth, and the light; also think about I am the way, I am the truth, I am the light;is one of the names of Christ. Go with me to section 39 in the Doctrine and Covenants, and you start to see all these

wonderful symbols that point to Go to section 38 verse one, brother Steve you want to read that section 38 verse one. Steve: thus saith the Lord your God, even Jesus Christ, the great I AM, Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the same which looked upon the wide expanse of eternity, and all the seraphicthis host of heaven, before the world was made; Mike: so go back over here to verse 18, the way is prepared And what is the way? I am the way, the truth, and the light. And I AM is a name; it s the name of Christ, it s one of his names. And look. the way is prepared... if it so be that men [they] repent and come unto him. So, we re looking at a formula here. Do you want to see, hear, and know for yourself? Then all you have to do is be obedient, repent, and come unto Christ. I m going to show a formula in our class on Saturday that just shows three ways A law Obedience A blessing. And every time you go that way all these blessings are there. And look at verse 19, for he that diligently seeketh, so you got 3 things that are required; number 1, repent; number 2, your required to come unto him; and number 3, your required to diligently seek him. If you will do that, you will see, know, hear. And look what else it says, the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them by the power of the Holy Ghost who? To all who diligently seek, repent and come unto him; for God is no respecter of persons. Now look, as well in these times, Nephi s time, as in times of old, Adam, as well in times of old as in times to come, that s us where the times to come. Wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round. So the message here is: there s not anything that has happened in the Scriptures, ever, from Adam up to our day, that can t happen to us individually, one-on-one. And all you have to do is meet the criteria. And their criteria was: repent, come unto me, diligently seek me, and there s a few others that we can come up with, but if you will what Nephi is teaching here is: that everything that has happened to me, can happen to you. And that s the message of the Book of Mormon. Student: you ll have to record Saturday s lesson. Mike: I ll have to record that lesson. Therefore remember, O man, for thy doings thou shalt be brought into judgment. Wherefore, if ye have sought to do wickedly in the days of your probation, then ye are found unclean before the judgment seat of God; and no unclean thing can dwell circle the word dwell which means tocome and stay, with God; wherefore, you must be cast off forever. And the Holy Ghost give us authority that I should speak these things, and deny them not. there is a ton of stuff right here and we will develop that and record that in our class on Saturday. There is a lot more that were going to develop here, a lot more. Student: yeah, you re going to like tomorrow s lesson. Mike: lots of good stuff. Okay, the continuation of this class will take place tomorrow, Saturday, at no class. Stay tuned, same channel, bye.
