6 Pastoral Address Semi-Annual Parish Meeting May 21, 2017 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Christ is Risen! Coming off of the intense and fervent worship of Great Lent, Holy Week and Pascha, we now find ourselves once again faced with the challenge of carrying that enthusiasm and faith along into our daily weekday routines. This struggle is characterized by trying to maintain our spiritual lives with fewer services in between the weekends. Without so much of the external discipline and structure of corporate worship, our own prayer lives must be found to be solid. Amidst our travel plans and busy-ness, let us endeavor to be constant in faith and fervent in prayer, both for ourselves and on behalf of others. Let us make a daily effort to read and study Holy Scripture. With this in mind, you are invited to participate in our Saturday evening Bible Study series (following vespers) on The Church in the Book of Acts. Pizza will be provided, so the body and soul may both be fed! Thank you! Thank you to all who have made the first half of this year at St. Mark so wonderful. To all who have opened their homes to be blessed, to the choir, deacons, council, teachers, cooks, bakers, cleaners, contributors, decorators, servers, handmaidens, and all those who pray; both here and at home. We have much to give thanks for and to celebrate! The birth of Chloe Nimmer, the baptism of Rebekah Rose Barber, Caroline German, the weddings of Christine Busenberg and Ray Bryan, Michael Cipu and Melinda Hines, Joanna Navarro and Eric Williams, and Steve Sekellick and Samantha Portuondo. All the birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and milestones we have been blessed to reach and surpass. Thanks be to God! As we turn the corner toward Summer, we prepare for our annual Rummage Sale on Saturday, June 10 th. Aside from asking for your donations, I also ask that you give some of your time to help in this fund raising effort. We look forward today to an update on Phase III of our parish iconography project. Our Iconography Committee has once again put in a great effort to come up with recommendations for our consideration. Thank you all for your time and attention to this and all other matters of parish business and activity today. With love in the Risen Lord, Fr. Gregory
7 Semi Annual Parish Meeting Sunday, May 21, 2017 President s Report Dear Brothers and Sisters, Christ is Risen! On May 21 st we will hold our Semi Annual Parish Meeting. We will have an update from our Iconography Committee about the project and some recommendations for us to consider going forward. In addition, we will need to consider the purchase of a new copy machine and sound system. The copy machine is beginning to have frequent failures and we need to replace it before it has a final failure and we have no copy machine. At this point the estimate is that it will cost no more than $10,000. We have not finished negotiations on the final cost, but would like the Parish to authorize the Council to spend no more than $10,000 for a new copy machine. The church sound system, as you may know, died several months ago and Greg Yakubik with some borrowed equipment was able to give us a short-term, but not a complete fix. A new sound system will cost about $10,000. The Council is proposing a new system that would replace all of the components to include the speakers in the church. We also want the system to be able to support live streaming of services with sound. Although not a cheap solution it is one that will provide an optimal solution and allow for live streaming of services and better sound resolution through out the building, including Parish meetings. Since our last Parish meeting in November 2016, we continue as a Parish to witness to our Orthodox Faith in some many ways, within and outside the Parish. A quick look at the calendar of events each month is a testimony to the continued good works and generosity of everyone. In addition, there are so many things that are done daily, without a word, that never get on the calendar, but are a testimony to who we are and what we believe. Our continued generosity in giving and time allows St. Mark Church to do all that it does, thank you! Although our agenda is not long please plan to attend to ensure we have a quorum and to review the read ahead materials so we can have a timely meeting. In Christ, Michael L. Thompson St. Mark Parish President
