2 4) Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. 5) And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. 6) And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt: 7) And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that He heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye murmur against us? 3 A SELECTED WORD FOR YOU TODAY JOY! JOY! JOY! FIRST THING IN THE MORNING Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will. (Isaiah 50:4 NLT) Here s a wonderful promise from God s Word: The Lord has given me His words of wisdom that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will. The Lord has spoken to me, and I listened. I have not rebelled or turned away. (VV. 4-5 NLT) Isaiah said God woke him up every morning and told him what he was supposed to do that day, and what he was to say to others! This wasn t a one of a kind occurrence: It happened morning by morning. Can you imagine how differently your day would go if you took the time to hear from God before you got out of bed? Notice the word understanding. God can give you understanding about what you should say and do before you get into a given situation. He said, I am the Lord who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go (Isa 48:17 NIV). Talk about having a plus in life and an edge on the competition! And here s the best part: Even if you re not listening, or you re not in the right place spiritually, or you don t have much experience in this realm, God will work with you morning by morning until you learn to recognize and respond to His voice. Are you surprised? You shouldn t be! After all, that s what good parents do with their children when they want them to grow up, mature, and enjoy life s best. (Taken from the Word for You Today) Love and joy, Pastor Dent
4 WOMEN S MINISTRY FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST October 21, 2017 The Lord s Lavish Love for Us (1 John 3:1) FAITH & FASHION WRITTEN BY DEBORAH WRAY PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARKI LEVERE We were blessed to have approximately 190 women in attendance at our first Women s Ministry Breakfast Fashion Show. The Breakfast Bunch (Sisters Jacqueline Castagna, Mary Blue, Vera Johnson, Juanita Braxton & Rosetta Jackson) prepared a delicious breakfast and we thank them immensely for their dedication to this ministry. We also want to express a special thank you to Sister Nicole Wilson and Sister Octavia Brown for chairing this wonderful event. These beautiful women of God shown in the photos below, reflected common values such as modesty, boldness, and integrity. As women, clothing and appearance are some of the most powerful ways we have of communicating who we are, what is in our hearts, and what our values are. These fashion savvy women demonstrated exactly that. We also recognized the cancer survivors who attended. Ladies, on behalf of the Women s Ministry, we thank you for sharing your love of faith and fashion. Models Sisters Chantelle Scott-Lynch, LaKeisha Kinlaw, Martine Noel, Natasha Morris, Gwen Crawford, Jervonda Banton, Stephanie Gerald-McBurrows, Rev. Tracie Mershon Gatewood, Angie Griffin-Grant, Tracey Jasey, Monique Buchanan, Keisha Dunkley, Venice Richardson, Pamela Officer, Shirley Officer, Rhonda Frisby, Carol Kemper, Mary Ruffin, Patsie Philip, Barbara Campbell Grant, Ruth Hall, Rosetta Burch, Minister Sharon White, Hope Dameron & Tonya Scott.
5 MEN S SPIRITUAL RETREAT By: Trustee Ken Lockett Wow 20 years! Yes, this was the 20th annual Men's Ministry Spiritual Retreat and a "spiritual" retreat it was! It was a retreat of the scheduled and unscheduled! The retreat for me started about three weeks early, when Pastor preached a sermon on Psalm 34:19: "Many are the afflictions of the righteous." If I may paraphrase the message, what will you do when life's storms smack you in the mouth with a 2 X 4? Let me bring you a little closer, what will you do when the doctor gives a positive recovery report but the death angel takes a loved one home anyway? What will you do when the person you love, ends your love story prematurely with a chapter called "Love don't live here no more, bye-bye?" What do you do when your plan to retire from your job, gets accelerated by a pink slip? The retreat provided the men with both scheduled answers and unscheduled answers to the question: "Can God count on us? Pastor Vincent Stokes of Holy Cross Baptist Church answered the question with a question out of Jeremiah 12:5: "If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? Stop sweating the small stuff, these storms are nothing more than a training ground for us to build up our spiritual endurance to accomplish God's purpose for our lives: Follow Christ and do what He has called us to do! Pastor Derrick Brennan of Canaan Baptist Church answered the question out of 1 Chronicles 11:10: "There is a mighty man inside us. The world will tell us that we are disposable, but the Word tells us we are indispensable men who are linked together, anchored in our conviction to serve God, no matter how big or small the storm we are facing! Pastor Steven Mack of Little Rock Baptist church answered the question from 1 Kings 19: For God to count on us, we must first go through a revival process! In midst of the storms, God is reviving us, reviving our assignment, reviving our influence or the storm and reviving our authority to the assignment through the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ! And then "Da Bishop", Bishop Anthony Hanna of St. Mark Christian Community Church closed out the retreat on Men's Day with the answer the question as only he can: "It's Already Done! from Isaiah 65:24." Stop! Just stop! God heard and answered your petition of prayer before you even asked. Just praise God. Praise Him for no other reason than because He is God. There are benefits to the relationship. Let me close on the unscheduled answers to the question. God showed up and showed out, in the unscheduled testimonies of Brother Steven Collins and Brother Jamal Brockenbrough, and the unscheduled prayer service led by Minister Ken Wilson and Deacon Ken Baines. If I weren t in the middle of the impromptu prayer service, I would have loved to have recorded it to share.
