2 KHS Historic Marker Applications, Page 2 KCPL 34 Kentucky Historical Society Historic Marker Applications, Introduction: The collection is comprised of Kentucky Historical Society Historic Marker Applications submitted to the Advisory Committee from Donor Information: The applications were donated to the Kenton County Public Library by Karl Lietzenmayer, a member of the Historic Marker Advisory Committee and resident of Kenton County, Kentucky. Scope and Content Note: The collection consists of the historic marker applications and supporting documentation. The material has been organized alphabetically by county and then alphabetically by subject/place of application within the county. The Kentucky Historical Marker Program is administered by the Kentucky Historical Society in cooperation with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The program was started in 1949 to provide individuals and organizations the opportunity to commemorate historic sites, events, and personalities throughout Kentucky. Today there are over 2,300 markers throughout Kentucky. Applications are reviewed by an advisory committee that meets twice a year.
