2 8 Characteristics of Satan s Personhood

3 1. Intellect

4 He is crafty. 2 Cor 11:3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.

5 He has schemes. Eph 6:11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

6 He has thought-out plans. 2 Cor 2:11so that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes.

7 Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

8 He converses intelligently. Job 1-2 Matt 4:1-9

9 2. Emotion

10 He desires things John 8:44- You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

12 He exercises the power of choice. Satan chose to afflict Job. Job 1:6-12; 2:1-7

13 Rulers influenced by him reflect his selfish choice. Isaiah 14:13-14 But you said in your heart, I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.

14 He chose to tempt Jesus Matthew 4:3-11

15 Satan will choose to fight with Michael. Revelation 12:7

16 Satan will choose to lead a rebellion against Christ Revelation 20:7-9

18 Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities all things have been created through Him and for Him.

20 5. He is a spirit and leads other spirit beings (demons)

33 King? Abaddon? Angel of the bottomless pit? Apollyon? Revelation 9:11 They have as king over them, the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name Apollyon.

40 No, Satan is created and does not have divine omniscience. He was wrong about Job s motives. Job 1-2 He did not know Jesus thoughts in the temptation. Matthew 4 He is never said to read humans minds or know all things
