1 Coggin Christian Education Endowment Fund Definition of Christian Education, Clarification on the Use of Funds and Reporting Requirements The sole purpose of the CCEEF as clearly stated in the trust document is for furthering Christian Education within the congregation, the local community, and the world. Further the Session has the sole discretion after prior consultation with the Diaconate to determine if a recommend activity or program meets the requirements stated in the trust document. The purpose of this document is to offer some clarity about the definition of Christian Education, the proper use of funds, the reporting on activities funded by CCEEF, and to offer some examples of the types of activities that are acceptable for consideration and those that are not. Christian Education Christian Education is defined as activities, events and programs that support, nurture, or is ancillary to the teaching and spreading the Christian Gospel. Activities are not limited and may include speakers, consultants, mission trips, educational and instructional materials, technology, and any other learning opportunities in relation to and complementary of the ministries established by the Session of NPC. Use of Funds A. Each year the Church may use 90% of the income of the fund (dividends not capital gains) for Christian Education (this rule and other processes are in the trust document). B. CCEEF funds may be used to expand, enlarge, extend, and/or otherwise enhance existing programs, events and activities sponsored or otherwise directly in relationship to the ministries of NPC. However, no funds from the CCEEF can go to support normal Church operations and the Church cannot use money from CCEEF to supplant funds. CCEEF funds may be used to add a completely new activity to a ministry that meets the definition of Christian Education. C. CCEEF funds can be used for a maximum of two years to support an approved activity or a very similar activity. D. CCEEF will accept applications for mission trips. The applicant must itemize cost for the trip. CCEEF will pay reasonable cost for expenses once the individual or group arrives at the location of the mission trip and up to departing from the location (e.g. van rental, lodging, material and supplies, etc.). Essentially the fund will not pay for individual travel expenses going to or coming from the location of the mission trip. 2/19/2018

2 Reporting Requirements A. Financial reporting of funds utilized including any bills should be given to the Church s Financial Secretary or the Treasurer of the CCEEF no later than 14 days after completion of the activity. Please note any outstanding bills to be paid after the 14 days period. B. A written summary of the activity is to be provided to the Chair of CCEEF no later than 30 days after the activity. Include in the summary such things as participant reactions, accomplishments, spiritual benefits, positives outcomes, etc. C. Working with the Chair of CCEEF, prepare a short presentation about the activity to be presented to the congregation. Examples include a "minute for mission" during a regular Church service; content for the NPC website such as a short video, PowerPoint presentation or pictures that chronicle the activity; or a story for the Church newsletter. Possible examples of Activities: This list is not inclusive and should be only be used as a guide. To sponsor a preaching series for the congregation and community beyond what NPC normally does. To place Church services on the internet or other avenues of communication. To sponsor a summer Christian Education program for children within the community To have seminary professors come and offer community wide courses in Bible study To support a mission trip To train selected individuals in specific outreach functions not funded within the NPC budget To purchase materials and supplies supporting an approved activity To send un-churched/under privileged children within the community to summer Camp Calvin activities Outreach programs designed to reach the multitude of un-churched individuals and families Funds Cannot Be Used to: Supplement additional funds already allocated within the Church s operational budget We only allocated $600 for an event and we need $200 more, let s get it from the CCEEF. Yes, we had to move funds from your ministry to other places within the budget; perhaps we can get CCEEF to fund your ministry. 2/19/2018

3 This statement is to be read at all mandatory February meetings. What is the Coggin Christian Education Endowment Fund? The Coggin Christian Education Endowment Fund was established in 1999 with the mission of providing funds to: Enhance and expand the Christian Education Programs of the Newnan Presbyterian Church. And, at some point in the future a portion of these funds should be used to reach out with the word of God to that large multitude of un-churched individuals in our community. At the time of its creation a set of covenants was established which govern the use and disbursement of proceeds from the Endowment. The terms and conditions outlined in the Covenants were proposed by us and accepted by representatives of the Session. Among other stipulations, the use of any portion of the fund to cover the day-to-day operation or any other budgeted item of the church or building programs is prohibited. Copies of these Covenants are available in the Church Office, and you are encouraged to review them. We have been so blessed in so many ways during our lifetime we wanted to renew our commitment to Christ and share the benefits of our blessings today and for years to come. We were motivated to establish the Endowment after reading about Elias Boudinot, a statesman, Presbyterian Elder, and signer of the Declaration of Independence. Mr. Boudinot was the creator of the Boudinot Book Fund, established in 1821 to supply religious reading material to "weak and feeble" congregations. While the initial amount donated by Mr. Boudinot was relatively modest, it still today serves the purpose specified by Mr. Boudinot. Based on the current balance in the fund, it will continue to do so for many years to come. Our aspirations for the Endowment are very simple: we hope it will do as much good work as Mr. Boudinot's Book Fund and will be an inspiration to others. In Christ, Millie and Bob Coggin
