Day trip to Walnut Ridge Ark. 26 Youth-Magic Springs Park Exciting changes for Operation Christmas Child for 2017 This year we are accepting donations of items for the shoeboxes and or money donations for the items and shipping. We will be collecting now through September 17 th. A list of suggested items can be found in the welcome center of the sanctuary and children s building. Please place all donated items in the labeled bins around the church. Our children s missions programs will be packing the boxes this fall as a part of a mission project. If you would like to participate in Dave Ramsey s Financial Peace University, contact Jeff James to find out how to sign up. 2 How Did Elijah Handle Burnout (I Kings 19) First of all, burnout is real. If the great prophet of God, Elijah, experienced it, so can we; (19:4) But he himself went a days journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, it is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers. Can there be any doubt Elijah was burned out and even depressed? Now, the important question is; what did Elijah do to come out of that burnout state? 1. Elijah rested (19:5) And he lay down and slept ; (19:6) And he ate and drank and lay down again. Often times burnout can be contributed to physical exhaustion. The first thing needed is physical, mental, and emotional rest and renewal. 2. He met with God. (19:9) There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And the Word of the Lord came to him a. He poured out his complaint before the Lord. (19:10) There is nothing wrong with reverently being honest with God. He need to get things off his chest; and God has big shoulders. b. He waited and listened for God s counsel and direction. (19:11-18) Elijah saw things from God s perspective. He was given a renewed purpose. 3. Elijah obeyed (19:19-21) James tells us, Faith without works is dead, (2:20). We must push through and do God s will. Just sitting there will only make things worse. May God Bless, Bro. Jack 1 Hallelujah! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights. 2 Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly armies. 3 Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars. 4 Praise him, highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens. 5 Let them praise the name of the Lord, for he commanded, and they were created. (Psalm 148:1-5) Don Lincoln a senior experimental particle physicist at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and an adjunct professor at the University of Notre Dame writes: Everything and I mean everything is just a consequence of many infinitely-large fields vibrating. The entire universe is made of fields playing a vast, subatomic symphony. Physicists are trying to understand the melody. God understands the melody! He wrote the score and created the instruments. From sub-atomic particles with their highfrequency vibrations They are the sopranos in the universe to the expanse of the cosmos which has a rhythm all its own, slowly pulsing, providing the bass beat to all creation. Science is learning what the Bible has always told us: All creation declares the Glory of God. Psalm 92:1 says, It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High. Since God made even the inanimate objects of his creation to sing praises to His name, shouldn t we? Come join us on Sunday morning as we sing praises to His name, and add your voice to the choir of the universe in worship. Hallelujah! Dr. Gary Redding

5 Celebrate Missions Night August 6, FBC Fisherville Come hear all that God did through our summer mission projects. (VBS, Navajo Ministry, Street Reach, and World Changers) I Peter A Living Hope in Christ by Jen Wilkin Join us beginning Wednesday, September 13 through November 8th for our Fall Women s Bible Study. Two sessions are offered on 9:15 AM and 6:15 PM. (Possibly Sunday afternoons also) Workbooks will be available for purchase. Childcare will be available. 6 I m sure many of you read this article from the June 9 th devotional in Our Daily Bread. I just had to share it with those who may not have seen it. It s called, A Reason to Sing, written by Amy Peterson. Singing changes the brain! Some studies show that when we sing, our bodies release hormones that relieve anxiety and stress. Other research indicates that when a group of people sings together, their heartbeats actually synchronize with each other. The apostle Paul s writing encourages the church to speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (EPH. 5:19). And the Bible repeats, Sing praise more than fifty times. In 2 Chronicles 20, we read a story of God s people demonstrating their trust in God by singing as they marched into battle. Enemies were heading toward the people of Judah. Alarmed, King Jehoshaphat called everyone together. He led the community in intense prayer. They didn t eat or drink, but only prayed, We don t know what to do, but our eyes are on you (V. 12). The next day, they set out. They weren t led by their fiercest warriors, but by their choir. They believed God s promise that they would be delivered without having to fight at all (V.17). While they sang and walked toward the conflict, their enemies fought each other! By the time God s people reached the battlefield, the fighting had ended. God saved His people as they marched by faith toward the unknown, singing His praises. God encourages us to praise Him for good reasons. Whether or not we are marching into battle, praising God has power to change our thoughts, our hearts, and our lives. Let s remember this as we lift our voices in song each week!
