Our vision: Be a blessing to all peoples We will make disciples helping people grow into a mature faith by: 1. following the great commandment to love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and strength; 2. obeying the great commission to go and make disciples of all nations
Our vision: Be a blessing to all peoples 1. Be a people who live according to God s word. 2. Be a people who know the truth of the cross and live accordingly. 3. Know the whole of God s story. 4. Be a people who care for creation. 5. Be a people who represent God to the world. 6. Be a people who understand and live out the truth of faith in our work.
Our vision: Be a blessing to all peoples One of the ways we can be a blessing to all peoples is to pray. Our text emphasises the role of prayer in the life of the people of God.
The Tabernacle
The Tabernacle is: A copy and shadow of what is in heaven (Hebrews 8:5) The pattern of heavenly things (Hebrews 9:23) A copy of true things (Hebrews 9:24) The tabernacle is an earthly picture of spiritual realities.
Formed to Bless: Living to Intercede I. Consider our CONNECTION to the priests. II. III. IV. Consider the CLOTHING of the priests. Consider the CALLING of the priests. Consider JESUS CHRIST our great high priest.
Consider our CONNECTION to the priests of the Old Testament you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifice acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:5) But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God s special possession that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9) We are a holy priesthood
Consider our CONNECTION to the priests of the Old Testament I carried you on eagle s wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. (Exodus ) It was God s intention from the beginning that His people be a kingdom of priests.
Consider the CLOTHING of the priests Nakedness is a metaphor in scripture that speaks of our separation from God. (Genesis 3:7) Clothing is a metaphor that speaks of our being made right before God.
Consider the CLOTHING of the priests Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honor. (Exodus 28:2) The purpose of the priest s clothing was to give them dignity and honour. Do you know you have been clothed with dignity and honour as God s priest?
Consider the CLOTHING of the priests The garments were to be made by skilled workers. I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. (Isaiah 61:10) Your spiritual clothing has been given to you by God through Christ s sacrifice.
The High Priest (Exodus 28:1-43; 39:1-31) The high priest s life was dedicated to serving the Lord and representing the people before their God. The design of the priestly garments was an expression of God s righteousness and merciful love for his people.
The High Priest Ephod: Over the robe, the priest wore an ephod of gold, of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, and of fine twisted linen (Exodus 28:4-6)
The High Priest Shoulder Stones: Set upon the shoulder pieces of the ephod are two onyx stones. The names of the sons of Israel (six names on ach stone) are engraved upon the onyx stones. (Exodus 28:9-12, 39:6,7)
The High Priest Breastplate and Urim and Thummim: The gold breastplate of judgment hung from chains of pure gold, twisted like cords. In the breastplate were the Urim and Thumim.
The High Priest Stones: Inside the breastplate were twelve stones representing the twelve tribes of Israel. (Exodus 28:17-21)
Consider the CALLING of the priests Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the Lord. (Exodus 28:29) They were to intercede for the people of Israel. The prayer of intercession is prayer at its highest.
Consider the CALLING of the priests If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. ~ 2 Chronicles 7:14
Consider the CALLING of the priests How should we pray for others? PRAY daringly PRAY specifically PRAY lovingly PRAY persistently PRAY submissively
Consider JESUS CHRIST our great high priest Our prayers of intercession are only possible because of Jesus Christ, our great high priest who has interceded for us, sacrificed himself for us, and enabled us to enter God s presence. In Christ and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. ~ Ephesians 3:12
Consider JESUS CHRIST our great high priest Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. ~ Hebrews 4:14
