Introduction The PCC met seven times during The average attendance was 14/15. The electoral roll is updated by Mrs Jean Weatherill and reported on at the APCM. Following the Suspension of Patrons Rights of Presentation, Revd Janice Smith was installed into the Benefice of Bramhope in November 2016 by Bishop Paul, and is now the Incumbent of St Giles Church, Bramhope. Church Services Revd Janice Smith has led the services at St. Giles Church. Revd David Kirby and Reader Jonathan Slater have assisted. Jonathan was relicensed as Reader for St Giles Church for a further 5 years at a service at Bradford Cathedral in May. The All.together service on the 2 nd Sunday continues to thrive. There are Welcomers to welcome everyone into church at all services; to show new people where to go, what to do, answer questions and to help with any special needs. They regularly review their practise so that all visitors, regular or otherwise receive a warm welcome. Once inside the church the Sidespeople take over this role. All the Easter services and Christmas services were well supported again this year. Many appreciated the lighting of candles for a loved one in the Chapel of All Saints. Come to Harvest Sunday was in October. The Toy Service in December was well supported again this year, including toys donated by the children of Bramhope Primary School during their annual visit at Christmas. Otley Social Services then distributed the toys. 4

6 Education Sunday was celebrated in September. Revd Janice Smith and Reader Jonathan Slater visit Ashcroft House care home regularly. Holy Communion is given to those residents who request it. There is a monthly service usually led by our Reader Jonathan Slater and the Christmas Service is supported by the choir. Healing Ministry continues to be a regular feature at Sunday morning and evening services. This is a well-used service by both people inside and outside the church. Thank you to the organist, choir, musicians, band and singers who support the services. Mission and Outreach in Bramhope and Beyond (MOBB) There has been a big focus on Leading Your Church Into Growth-Local (LYCIG-Local) over the course of 2016 and Robin Gamble came to preach. The Lent groups were based around it and there were follow up courses in the autumn as well as discussion at PCC meetings. Thank you to Gill Pinches and Marion Skirrow for their many years service as the St Giles magazine editors. Louise Riley and Caroline Donnelly have taken over this role. The Communications Team introduced St Giles to Facebook. The Churchwardens have re-started the Open House group on a monthly basis to welcome people for afternoon tea and cakes. Nurturing Faith Four adults and four children were confirmed at a service on 24 th January. The Home Nurture groups were based around LYCIG-Local. The congregation was invited to discuss aspects of church life and how elements of prayer, proclamation, persuasion and presence can be improved. A number of parishioners attended the Parish Weekend at Rydal hall in April. The theme was, In all you say and do. Janice attended a clergy conference on the subject of Hope and has also been on retreat. She has attended courses on social media, funerals and ministerial development. There was another successful Alpha Course over the autumn period. Church Events Messy Church came to the Mothering Sunday Service and Father s Day Service this year and both were a great success. May saw another successful Men s Supper Club book sale and a concert, Encore, was organised by the Social Committee. Bramhope village celebrated the Queen s 90 th birthday in June. St Giles did this with a service of thanksgiving, a Black Tie dinner and Afternoon Tea. St Giles Church members were delighted to celebrate Canon Clayton s anniversaries on 3 rd July. It was his 105 th birthday and the 80 th anniversary of his ordination. Bishop Nick came to preach. Thank you to the Social Committee for organising the fund raising events. Young People Revd. Smith visits Bramhope Primary School on a regular basis to take assemblies for both Key Stage 1 and 2. She attended the pupils assemblies in June/July, which were about the Rio Olympics. Revd. Smith led an Easter Service there for KS2 accompanied by organist John Smith and KS1 visited St Giles as part of its Easter celebrations. KS2 pupils visited St Giles in December as part of its Christmas celebrations. All services were very much enjoyed by both the pupils and staff. 5

7 Toddler Praise led by Fiona Wrightson and Reverend Janice Smith meets once a month for parents, carers and their young children. The craft mornings on Good Friday and at Christmas continue to be extremely popular. Messy Church takes place monthly over the spring/summer. It incorporates crafts, play, prayer and praise along with food and refreshments for all ages. Kidzclub restarted in September on Tuesdays after school at Bramhope Primary School. CATS (Carers and ToddlerS) continues its success on a Wednesday morning in the church hall. The Mothers Union has continued to organise the 1-5 Baptism scheme in which all children baptised at St Giles in the previous four years receive a card on the anniversary of their baptism. This year is the 25 th anniversary of doing this. Children also receive a birthday card from St Giles, which is sent by Jill Perkin, something she has done for the past 38 years. The Brownie groups meet weekly in the church hall. Revd. Smith and Safeguarding Officer, Matthew Laird, have attended course updates on Safeguarding and Safe Church. Community Links Revd Rick Ormrod is the Minister at the Methodist Church in Bramhope. Both churches enjoyed joint services in 2016, Christian Unity Sunday in January, Ash Wednesday, Passion Sunday, Remembrance Sunday and this year, the Women s World Day of Prayer. Thank you to Sue Osborne for her many years managing the village Christian Aid collections. The new co-ordinators are Marion Skirrow and Gill Pinches. St Giles took part in the Bramhope Show in September. There will be a change in how the Deanery is co-ordinated in the coming year. Maintenance The church, church grounds and the hall continue to be well maintained with the fantastic efforts of the Fabric Committee and the Grounds Committee. Thank you to Jim Molyneux for his many years of service managing the church grounds. The Quinquennial Inspection took place on 15 th October 2015 and the report became available in January No immediate repairs were needed. Repairs that required completion within 12 months were carried out in the summer. The Fire Evacuation Plan has been updated. Charities St Giles biggest donation to charity is via the Parish Share of 83,650, which pays for clergy in deprived areas where church income is significantly lower. It pays to maintain a Christian presence in areas that would otherwise be without clergy. The Parish Share for 2017 is still not known at the time of this report. St. Giles continues to promote and support the work of Christian Aid by making collections at specific services and events. Marion Skirrow and Gill Pinches now manage the village house-tohouse collection. This year, 3643 plus gift aid was collected across the village. The collection of used ink cartridges and mobile phones also contributes to the Christian Aid collection, 466 this year and 70 from the Encore concert was also donated. CATS collected underwear for the charity Smalls For All. The donated goods will be distributed to various groups in Africa. There was a collection of toiletries for St George s Crypt and a Staycaketion coffee morning. Food was donated at Lent to local food banks. Fund raising events are organised by some members of St Giles to support The Children s Society. 6

8 St Giles holds two Christingle services on Christmas Eve to support the Children s Society, which raised a record 1,600 this year. The produce donated at the Harvest Festival was given to Caring for Life, a local Christian charity in Cookridge. Toys from the Toy Service were sent to social services to be distributed locally. Fairtrade is supported by the use of its goods in church and by a regular stall selling Fairtrade produce. As well as giving to charity, St Giles is also the recipient of donations from the Bramhope Trust. The 50:50 Club is now up and running and doing well. We are in receipt of matched funding from Barclay s Bank for some of our events. Summary Looking forward, there will be a follow up of all the ideas that were collected as part of the Leading Your Church Into Growth- Local project. St. Giles Church continues to thrive due to the hard work and effort of a forward thinking Vicar and an enthusiastic and dedicated congregation. MOBB continues to reflect and progress the mission of St Giles. Thank you to everyone who contributes to our growing church and Christian life at St. Giles. Financial Review 2015 has been a reasonably satisfactory year financially. All bills, including our Parish Share of , have been paid in full and we ended the year with a small deficit of 2,570. This was largely due to the fact that the cost of asbestos removal was met in full during the year, but part of the income from the Asbestos Appeal was raised in Receipts Thanks are due once again to church members for their continuing generous financial support throughout the year. Of slight concern during 2014 and 2015 is the continued reduction in planned giving. This is our main source of income, and we do need to ensure that as far as possible we maintain and if possible increase our level of regular giving in order to support the on-going work of the Church. On a more positive note, social events, the new monthly 50:50 Draw, and the MSC book sale were all very successful. Not only were they very enjoyable, but they also resulted in the generation of a significant contribution to church funds. We also received a large number of individual donations as a result of the Asbestos Appeal. A donation of 5000 from the Bramhope Trust was also very gratefully received. Payments Our major item of expenditure each year is payment of the Parish Share. This is paid to the Diocese who pool the money received in order to pay for ministry throughout the Diocese. This amounted to 82,211 for St Giles in 2015 and will increase to 83,650 next year. The other new single major item of expenditure was for asbestos removal, which was successfully undertaken during the year. Reserves At the year-end balances amounted to 85,098. Of this total amount 41,978 is held in the Witham Trust whose use is restricted to the funding of major structural works to the church fabric. Unrestricted funds amount to 41,642 which represents a little over three months expenditure, and this is considered reasonable to meet future shortfalls in income or unexpected expense. 7
