1 THE WEEKLY MESSENGER 1358 South Lake Drive Lexington, SC Week of November 5, 2017 The 23rd Sunday after Pentecost All three of our lessons this Sunday speak about judgment and the last days. The prophet Amos reminds us that God is more interested in justice than in fancy worship services. God wants to know that the poor are cared for and the orphan and widow know safety. St. Paul reminds us that the people who have died are not outside God s salvation that they merely wait for the moment when the last trumpet will sound and we will be gathered together again with them into Christ s joyous kingdom. And then Jesus tells us the parable of the 10 Bridesmaids 5 foolish, 5 wise. Five waited prepared, even excessively prepared for the bridegrooms arrival while the other 5 did the bare minimum to get by. What do these stories tell us about judgment? About the life to come? About our gracious Lord and Savior? Lutheran Services of the Carolinas Sunday November is a time designated to celebrate the child and family ministries of Lutheran Services Carolinas. Take time to pray for the people served by LSC including foster children searching for a home, adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities seeking independence, and refugees looking for a new start in life. Lutheran Services Carolinas invites you to reflect on the message of Ephesians 5:1-2 and consider ways in which you can walk in love with those in need. It could be by volunteering, collecting needed items, or making a tax-deductible contribution to support LSC s child and family services. Checks can be made payable to Lutheran Services Carolinas (write Child and Family Month on the memo line) and mailed to P.O. Box 947, Salisbury, NC Gifts also can be made securely online at LSCarolinas.net. Thank you for walking with LSC and those we serve! Pastor Ray Mohrmann will be with us this Sunday to answer questions about their ministry.
