We give thanks for all who have received your vision and shaped diverse and faithful communities to follow in your Way. Continue to open that vision to us, that we may become transformed by the renewing of your Word in our hearts and grow in love for each other and understanding of the many ways we may. Create in us O God clean hearts and minds; enable us to rejoin you in your suffering and baptism. 7 Memorial Sunday, November 6 The November we will be trying something new. On Sunday, November 6 we will have Memorial Sunday. On this day, which is the Sunday after All Saints Day, we will remember all those who have gone before us. During the service we will have the opportunity to bring a candle up to the front and light it in memory of a loved one. Candles will also be provided. You might bring a favorite candle holder that reminds you of someone. Be sure to bring your candle to church that day, and we will remember together all the saints who have come before us. From Your EVENTS COMMITTEE We would like to thank the Booth chairs, all the volunteers and those that donated items to the fair and most important we would like to thank all that came to support the Country Fair.

8 MISSIONS. Autumnal greetings everyone. I hope that many of you were able to attend the second hour with Rochelle Ripley from Hawkwing on October 23. Hawkwing provides essential services for the people of the Cheyenne River Lakota (Sioux) Indian Reservation. Last year, Rochelle was named a CNN hero because of the important work she has done and is doing. We are proud of our relationship with Rochelle and are hosting a clothing and item drive to benefit Hawkwing. November is a wonderful time to host this drive since it is Native American Heritage Month. In addition, November 15th is the National Make a Difference - America Recycles Day. So...we are having a FUNDrive in partnership with Savers, a thrift store that will BUY our donated items. Items must be in in good, clean and sellable condition. The list of items will be posted on posters and flyers around the church. Clothing, shoes, towels, bedding, books, toys, kitchen items, sporting goods and more will be accepted. What do you have to do? Bring your items to church any time on or before November 20th. We want this to be a community wide fundraiser so please do share with everyone you know and the Board for Missions will do our part to get the word out. The Monday Morning Mailers will gather to prep the November edition of the Church Mouse on Monday, October 31 at 10:00am. Join us as we also celebrate Halloween with the little gouls and goblins from Little Scholars Preschool! Snacks and treats will be provided. Trick or Treat!

9 A NEW MUSIC MISSION Can you feel it? Can you feel God s love at work in your life? Have you noticed God s love at work in the world? I struggle with this every day and I have a feeling I m not alone. Those moments where we feel the joy of living and sharing our humanity with each other are often hard to find. This year, the Music Committee has a goal to give us all an opportunity to feel that joy by sharing God s love with our community through a new Musical Mission. This mission is for all of us. We all possess the ability to feel and express the joy of music. It is part of our humanity and a gift from God. So I m going to ask you all to set aside that voice in your head telling you this if for somebody else because I promise you, this is a joy for ALL of us. We are putting together a road show and we need members! We need church members and we need their friends! We want to put together a minute program of music to perform at nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Rocky Hill and the Hartford area. Naturally, we need some musicians for this program but we also need people to help create energy! That means people willing to sing in groups (I know everybody sings in the car!), people willing to clap their hands, people willing to reach out and hold hands, people willing to dance, drum and shake a tambourine! It doesn t matter if all you do is sit in a chair next to a quiet resident and tap your foot! We want you! So now you might be thinking you want to try this out. The next challenge of course is availability and we have a plan. Our goal is to perform music that is familiar to all of us and the residents, in addition to music that individuals might want to perform. That means we might have 5 solo performances with the rest of us in supporting roles like singing, clapping or dancing with residents and 5 group performances of a song like Lean on Me where all us can get up and sing. This gives us the flexibility of not needing the same people every time we go out into the community. So here is the pitch! If you would like to be involved in any way or you have any questions, please me at hipgirl64@gmail.com. If you are a musician with a particular song in mind, please include that idea so I can start forming a set list! OK RHCC! Let s do it! Let s put our faith to work and share the joy! 10 SCRIP-SURE What is it? Scrip-sure is a fundraising program for our church, which allows the regular shopping we do at a variety of retailers to generate income for the church. How? Participating retailers sell gift certificates or gift cards to our church at a discount. Church members buy the certificates for full face value and redeem them for full face value, and our church keeps the difference as revenue. Everybody wins! The retailers get our business, and our church gets a regular source of revenue that involves nothing other than what we would all be doing anyway shopping/spending at grocery stores, drugstores, restaurants, gas stations, and many other businesses, including online retailers We have most of the usual cards in inventory for immediate purchase this morning. Here is a partial list of cards typically available: Coffee: Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks Fast food: Boston Market, Chipotle, McDonalds, Panera, Subway, Wendy s Gas: Exxon/Mobil, Shell, Sunoco Grocery: Big Y, Stop & Shop, Trader Joe's, Westside Marketplace, Whole Foods Pharmacy: CVS, Walgreens Restaurants: Bertucci's, Bonefish Grill, Buffalo Wild Wings, Denny's, Olive Garden, On the Border, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster Shopping: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot, Kohl's, itunes, L.L. Bean, Lowes, Michaels, Payless Shoes, Target, Toys R Us, Walmart Today is the deadline for placing orders for cards not kept in inventory. Cards ordered today will be available for pickup next Sunday, Nov. 6. A comprehensive listing of all available retailers can be picked up at the scrip table in Chapin Hall. Upcoming pre- Christmas ordering deadlines will be in two week cycles - November 13, 27, and December 11. Did you know that you can donate to the Rocky Hill Food Pantry and "Covenant-to-Care for Children" through our scrip program? Your cash/check donations are used to buy gift cards to local groceries (food pantry) or other retail stores (CC). For these donations, we do not retain any profit, so a $1.00 donation effectively buys about $1.07 in groceries or clothing. You may donate at the scrip table in Chapin Hall.
