1 2017 Serving as the Chairman of the Chamber Board of Directors this past year has been an amazing experience. Looking back over this me, it s wonderful to see how our communi es are pulling together to build a stronger future for Cheyenne county. The Board has created a Community Leader Commi ee that is reaching out to all the towns in our county. The goal is to help every village and town promote their communi es, and draw more people to our area. One of the events held this year was the 150 th Sesquicentennial Celebra on. The celebra on was a success in bringing MANY people to our communi es. It was great to see the Chamber, County, and the City of Sidney along with numerous volunteers pull off such a great event! The Leadership Cheyenne County program con nues to grow each year and we are fortunate to get to work with WNCC and Jamie Weingart, JNW Consul ng, to make this program successful. Each year the class plans a project that will benefit the community. Last years class swung for the fence and managed to complete a large project for the people of Sidney that use public transporta on. Two bus shelters were installed. One on 10 th Avenue by the Court House, and the other at Cheyenne Villa. It was great to witness the class use their leadership and skill sets to pull off such a massive project. This year s theme was The Possibili es are Endless. It s me for County Wide Growth and Prosperity. I believe our members, and the people of our county, are trus ng that theme. Our membership remains strong with 289 Members. This is a 5.54% increase from Bringing new businesses to our area, and helping our exis ng businesses grow, is what we want to accomplish. I would like to give a sincere thank you to all our members, volunteers, staff, Board of Directors, and ambassadors for an amazing year. As I turn over the gavel to Steve Wolff, my challenge to you, as a chamber member, is to stepup and get involved. Make your business voice be heard. I urge you to speak out on the issues that ma er to you. Get behind your Chamber, and give your full support to the New 2018 Chairman and Board. It s been an honor to serve you. 5 MEMBERSHIP MATTERS Here at the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce we value our members and are thrilled that you are part of a network that encourages business to grow here in the towns where we live, work, and play. This past year has been a me of uncertainty and change for our community. It has been very heartwarming to watch businesses and individuals band together and show support for one another through a ending ribbon cu ngs, networking events, and customer referrals. Cheyenne County businesses rock! What is the real value of joining your local Chamber of Commerce? What can the Chamber do for my business? Do consumers really support businesses because they are chamber members? These ques ons are asked by businesses and organiza ons who may not know what a Chamber of Commerce is and does not understand the value of Chamber membership. The Shapiro Group was commissioned to conduct a study among 2,000 adults na onwide asking these very ques ons. Here are their powerful results: Most consumers (59%) think that being ac ve in the local chamber of commerce is an effec ve business strategy overall. If a company shows that it is highly involved in its local chamber (e.g., sits on the chamber board), consumers are 12% more likely to think that its products stack up be er against its compe on. When a consumer thinks that a company s products stack up be er against the compe on because the company is highly involved in its local chamber of commerce, it is because he or she infers that the company is trustworthy, involved in the community, and is an industry leader. When consumers know that a restaurant franchise is a member of the chamber of commerce, they are 40% more likely to eat at the franchise in the next few months. When consumers know that an insurance company is a member of the chamber of commerce, they are 43% more likely to consider buying insurance from it. When consumers know that a small business is a member of the chamber of commerce, they are 44% more likely to think favorably of it and 63% more likely to purchase goods or services from the company in the future. In addi on to consumer outcomes, other reasons chamber membership is valuable include networking and community, learning opportuni es and training, visibility and exposure, and we work to inform, educate and advocate on your behalf in partnering with the State Chamber of Commerce. 7 The November Leadership Cheyenne County Class met at Sidney Regional Medical Center (SRMC) for Health Care Day. A er the morning session with Jamie Weingart of JNW Consul ng, the group was given the opportunity to tour Dorwart Cancer Center, Life Smiles of Sidney Dental offices, and a presenta on by a panel of experts at SRMC on pricing in Healthcare. The informa on was very useful to the class and there was much discussion! Thank you to SRMC for providing a delicious lunch for LCC.
