Every now and then we run across a first person remembrance that really has a wonderful message. Angela remembers her grandfather in this short piece. Here is the first-person account by Angela Brannan, a friend of Pastor John & Mary. She is married and the mother of seven children. My grandparents raised me up to the time I was seven. My grandfather would take a big black metal lunch box to work every day. I would be waiting for him by the front door when it was time for him to come home. I did this every day. He would walk through the door, hand over the lunch box and I would run to the kitchen and open it up to see what was inside. Ding Dongs, Twinkies, apple pie, snow balls (which were little cakes with a marshmallow covering and sprinkled with coconut) ---something was always in the lunch box. Just magically there. My Grandpa would say How... How did that happen? I truly thought these treats just appeared. Well I think God is like that in that He has something to give us daily. His gifts are good and He eagerly wants to bless us. He takes joy in our discovery of His blessings. He is faithful and has a never-ending reserve. I love my grandpa. He is still alive as I write this although he recently broke his hip and is now in recovery. They can't get him to eat. I am sad about this but know that someday soon he will open his eyes and find the biggest surprise waiting for him and it won't be a Hostess snack either! It will be the Loving arms of Jesus! XOXO Deep Calls to Deep A New Year-- A New Beginning The First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. The turning of the new year reminds us of God s power to make all things new. More than most, Christians are a people of a future and a hope. We do not, or should I say, we should not live in the past. In Paul s second letter to the Corinthians (5:17) we read, Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Each year we have the opportunity to remind ourselves that the past is over and done. We do not live in the past. We deal with past sins through repentance and forgiveness. Now each day is fresh and new, and the turning of a new year is a chance to reflect on God s power to make all things new. This is what the LORD says He who made a way through the sea, a path 2

3 through the mighty waters, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. --Isaiah 43:16, As the New Year 2018 dawns, let us resolve one thing: We serve a living God who makes each day a new day, each year a new year. Therefore with joyful hearts we come to serve Him with renewed determination. We serve the King of Kings. Lord Jesus, we look forward to the new things you will do.
