HIGHLIGHTS OF 2014 BBU CONVENTION: Since ur last newsletter, the BBU cnventin was held in Memphis, TN. What a fun place, several f the grup tured Graceland, and thse f us wh are f the Elvis era were quite impressed with the mansin and attractins there. The SEBBA satellite prvided an excellent time fr all the attendees f the cnventin. Our BBC Breakfast and Membership meeting was very well attended, with fifty-six in attendance t enjy a suthern breakfast and have sme Memphis blues music t entertain us. At the meeting new fficers were elected fr the next tw years, with ur Secretary/Treasurer psitin being filled fr a ne year term. Als, at the membership meeting, the Nminating Cmmittee presented a new undertaking fr the rganizatin, an award fr Cattlewman f the Year, which will be presented t a deserving member f ur rganizatin at ur annual meeting each year. A slate f nminees was presented t the members present fr their vte, and the nminees were als sent t members nt present fr their vte. The first award will be annunced at ur meeting at the 2015 cnventin in Galvestn. We asked fr suggestins fr fundraising ideas t raise mney t supprt ur JBBA schlarship fund, and I am happy t reprt that frm a suggestin made that items be auctined at cattle sales, we have had ur first success. At the SFA sale held in Nvember, the students at SFA dnated a jar f ckies that was purchased fr $ by J.C. and Terri Thmpsn. Thanks t the Thmpsns fr their purchase, and thanks t BBC member Erin Brwn fr initiating the idea. I hpe that ther Beefmaster sales will supprt BBC with auctin items and the same success can be accmplished. The 2014 JBBA Schlarship Quilt was purchased by Kathy and Ray Walther. Thanks t them fr purchasing the beautiful quilt. The frnt page cver f the Cwman was purchased by Arthur Bub Epley and wife Nancy. This purchase will als benefit BBC s cntributin t JBBA. Our membership is currently made up f eighty-ne members frm 12 different states Alabama, Illinis, Califrnia, Oklahma, Texas, Tennessee, Luisiana, Gergia, Mississippi, Missuri, Arkansas and Flrida. Seventeen f these will be new squares. Each year Bill and Dusty Carr dnate a painting t be auctined at their sale with prceeds ging t BBC fr dnatin t JBBA. Mm's Buttermilk Peach Cbbler in Cast Irn Skillet Karen Gattis f Gattis Cattle Cmpany Hutt, TX Spending tday cmplaining abut yesterday wn t make tmrrw any better. Melt in a cast irn skillet: 1 stick butter (1/2 cup) Cmbine in a small bwl: 1 cup sugar 1 cup flur ½ teaspn baking sda ¼ teaspn salt Add t mixture: 1 cup buttermilk Pur mixture int the melted butter and stir briefly t distribute butter thrugh batter. Pur nt tp f batter: 2-3 cups sliced sweetened peaches 1 cup peach juice Sprinkle tp with: 1/3 cup sugar Bake at 350 degrees fr minutes until brwned Oh By Waffles Recipe makes five 7-8" Belgian waffles Karen Gattis f Gattis Cattle Cmpany Hutt, TX A gd recipe I used when ur bys were yung that desn't require making ahead f time r beating the egg whites separately. Cmbine in a medium bwl: 2 ¼ cups flur 4 teaspns baking pwder ¾ teaspn salt 1 ½ Tablespns sugar Every day is a secnd chance. Cmbine in a small bwl: 2 beaten eggs ¾ cup il 2 ¼ cups milk Add the liquid ingredients t the dry ingredients and stir just till cmbined (leave sme lumps). Heat waffle maker till ready. Pur batter int waffle maker and ck until brwned. Grandma s Sctch Squares Kathy Skinner f Skinner s Rafter S Katy, TX 2/3 cup shrtening 1 tsp salt 1 bx brwn sugar 2 ½ tsp baking pwder 3 eggs 1 cup chpped nuts 2 ¾ cups plain flur Warm shrtening. Add sugar and stir. When cled, add eggs, flur, etc. Beat well and add nuts. (I have used pecans and peanuts but yu can use whatever nut yu prefer.) Press thick dugh int a greased and flured pan. Bake at 350 degrees fr minutes. Cl and cut int squares fr serving.

We have a lifetime BBU membership since 1994 and currently participate in the weights and measures prgram. We have enjyed wrking in the cattle business full time since 2011, mving frm Hustn t Giddings, and carry n a prtin f the purebred Beefmaster peratin frm the late Elm and Lillian Walther, wh were lifetime members f the BBU fr 35 years. We have spent the last three years refining and adding t ur herd, cnverting recrds t Cattlemax, and raising cmmercial bulls and replacement heifers. We attend the TAMU Beefmaster Shrtcurse and lcal cattle wrkshps, and enjy attending the satellite sales. Prmtin and imprvement f the breed is part f ur business plan. I try t help where I am able with the cattle, and wrk alngside with Ray n mst tasks. I always enjy cking fr a bunch f hungry peple. Life has surely changed in the last few years! Our tw sns bth reside in Austin. Aarn, 25 is a UT graduate and wrks as a Sales Manager at SecureLink. He als teaches and perfrms imprvisatin at the New Mvement Theater and perfrms at the Dinner Detective Theater in Austin. Jsh, 22, a Public Health majr, is a pre-med graduate frm UT Austin. He als was part f Texas 4000, a grup f UT students wh bicycle ver 4000 miles frm Austin Texas t Anchrage Alaska and raise mney and awareness fr cancer research. This year ver $600,000 was raised as they cmpleted the ride in August. We enjy living clse t ur family. Natinal Beefmaster Bull Champinship, Tunica, MS - March 20, 2015 Lyssy Beefmasters Field Day, Stckdale, TX - March 21, 2015 Beefmaster Field Day & Bull Shw, Cncrdia, KS - March 21, 2015 As a CPA in Hustn, I wrked in public accunting fr nine years in the 1980 s, and as Tax Manager fr a natinwide cnstructin equipment rental and sales cmpany fr six years. The past seventeen years have been spent handling tax and administrative matters fr ur family businesses. Vlunteering has been a part f ur life, at varius church, civic and schl rganizatins. I grew up n a farm in Fayette Cunty, and was active in 4-H, raising animals fr shw. The farm peratin included raising crn, cmmercial cattle, and a seed and fertilizer business. Althugh my flks have passed nw, they left many memries f life n the farm with ur family. I currently serve as Treasurer f the Lutheran Wmen s Missinary League Texas District (a statewide missin and service grup), am a member f the lcal LWML grup at Immanuel LCMS, the Giddings Study Club, and the Giddings Setn Develpment Bard.
