Tuesday, it was 70 degrees with intermittent rain. The Saturday and Sunday prior, it was Sunny and high in the Mid 90 s. Proof positive there is a God. The weekend of July 22 & 23 rd the council participated at the Back to the Beach Celebration on the board walk in South Beach. We had our annual Dunk tank event and a great time was had by all. Lots of the guys, and even some of the women spent countless hours of time voluntarily sitting in that tank to give some really excited kids the opportunity to try their best to dump them into the water. Of course, there were no losers. The little ones, if they missed, were thrilled to run up and push the button and the parents were just as happy to capture that look of glee on their faces with a picture as we plunged into the tank. There were a few guys who spent nearly the entire weekend down there with me. And there were lots of others who came down and offered their assistance. There were way too many people to list but one of our most notable, happened to be our own Pete Sacco who was a site for sore eyes as he climbed the ladder into the tank proudly dressed in his Tu-Tu. Two days later, my eyes were still hurting from seeing that. With all expenses paid, a grand total of $ was earned and was given directly to St Jude s Children s Hospital, and an additional $300 was given to the Carl V. Bini Foundation. The push is now on. Don Thatcher, our C & B Chairman has mailed out all the C & B books. He s done his job now please see if you can do yours. Sell them! Take them out when your barbecuing with friends or take them to work with you. $6.00 per book goes back to Supreme and that s how they get funds for Matching Gifts for Catholic Education Programs and Food for Families etc. etc. The other ½ of that money goes directly back to Manresa. Our family picnic at Richmond Town on August 26 th was a huge success. We finished the day with 102 people in attendance and everyone had a good time. The final bills have not yet been totaled but it looks as if we re going to be able to make substantial donations to Richmond Town Historical Society and to St. Margaret Mary s Church who offered us the use of the Olympia Center as a backup in the event of a rainout. I would like to thank everyone who joined the various committee and gave their time to make this picnic as successful as it was. I also would like to offer a special thanks to few guys who put in an inordinate amount of time to assure that everyone enjoyed themselves. Thanks to Frank Alessio, James Defrancesco, Chris Marzullo, Joe Ribaudo, and a big Thank You to Frank Saulle who gave us the use of the Richmond Town property. Would like to thank all of you that assisted in collecting donations at the Richmond Town Fair for the Wheelchair Foundation. Our Saturday & Monday take was $ which enables us to purchase an additional six wheelchairs. Lastly, our Installation of Officers was held on Sunday September 10 th with Mass at St Christopher s and installation ceremony directly after the Mass. Breakfast followed at the Council. It was an honor to have Mr. Ken Latham, the State Deputy, in attendance. Congratulations to our newly elected officers. Eddie Thatcher, Grand Knight

2 Dear Sr. Columbiettes, COLUMBIETTES PRESIDENT S MESSAGE First thing first, we would like to congratulate our very own Mary Anne Alessio, of Manresa on becoming SI Chapter President & Supreme Director. Congrats to you! Keep up the great job. As we kick off our new year, I look forward to all the exciting things we have planned ahead of us. As newly installed officers we will eagerly be working together to make this a good year for our auxiliary. Coming out of the summer with our PAMPERED CHEF FUNDRAISER, I would like to thank everyone who ordered or donated an item to make it the success that it was we received $ worth of free products to use as raffles for Radio Bingo and the Spring Tea. SOLD OUT is our Paint Nite at Created by You with a percentage of our profits going to Texas and Florida to help with the devastation endured during these hurricanes. In October we look forward to our Dine to Donate the details are being worked out as you read this letter, details to follow. Next month tickets for our Nite at the Races will go on sale for Nov 11, Always a big hit, get your tickets early. Warm Regards, Maria O Brien Manresa President JOIN BAUER S CRUSADERS FIGHT AGAINST ALS On Saturday, October 7, 2017 I will be participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS sponsored by the ALS Association at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater NJ and I would love for you to join my team, Bauer's Crusaders. TD Bank Ballpark is located right off of Route 287 in Bridgewater at Exit 13B. The walk starts at 11AM and registration begins at 9AM. The walk is approximately 1 mile long and there are provisions to walk under cover in case of rain. This is a fun event with plenty of food and music and a Kids Zone for the children in addition to a chance to help a very worthy cause. Since I have been diagnosed with ALS I have found the ALS Association to be a great resource. They are in the forefront of efforts to find a cure for this terrible disease and they offer numerous programs and resources to people living with ALS. The proceeds from this walk all go directly to the ALS Organization to help them continue their very worthwhile efforts. If you can join as a walker and contact your friends and families for donations that would be wonderful. If not, you can still help by making a donation to our team's efforts or by signing up as a "virtual" walker. Just follow the link below to join the team or make a donation. The good wishes and support I have received from all my friends and family since being diagnosed with this disease have been overwhelming. God Bless you all. RESOLUTION In light of the situation in Texas The Grand Knight and the Trustees of Manresa council have put forth the following resolution To be voted on at the next regular meeting of the Council on September 14 th. Recognizing the generosity afforded us, following Sandy, in unity with our Brother Knights in Texas, be it resolved that Manresa Council 2147 donate the amount of $2000 To the NYS KofC Charities disaster relief fund to assist in he recovery from hurricane Harvey. September is here and that means the return of Sunday Darts. Come on down to the Council Sunday afternoons for some fun and fraternity. Football will be on all screens, food, and beer. Members of the Manresa and Staten Island Councils participated in a fundraising drive at this year s Richmond County Fair. Through the efforts of both councils nearly $1000 was raised for the Knight of Columbus Wheelchair mission which will give the gift of mobility by providing an additional 6 wheelchairs to those in need in our local community. The 11th annual Polar Plunge will be held on Sunday, December 3, Please consider joining the team this year as we hope to eclipse last year s funds raised. Last year we raised over $8,000.
