1 Monthly Announcements August 2018 The DC Pulse Your Connection to an Intergenerational Church with a Heart for the Community DAVID CHAPEL VOLUNTEERS AT THE CENTRAL TEXAS FOOD BANK David Chapel s motto, An Intergenerational Church with a Heart for the Community was placed into action on Saturday, July 14, Although organized by our fantastic Women s Enrichment and Senior Adult Ministries, youth also joined in and contributed greatly! It was truly an intergenerational community service project joyously executed by 28 DC participants! David Chapel members gave time and money to the Central Texas Food Bank that was translated to 14,411 meals. A total of 90 volunteers were organizers, sorters, expediters, can, bottle and package inspectors, box flatteners, bottle/can washers and box tapers! Our three-hour, music-filled, fun shift helped the Central Texas Food Bank prepare to feed daily 46,000 poor and middle-class individuals through its numerous partner agencies. The Central Texas Food Bank, along with its massive volunteer operations, feed persons in Travis County and in 20 other Central Texas counties, an area twice the size of Massachusetts. During our shift on Saturday, all volunteers handled 16,450 pounds of food. What a wonderful, glorious way to make a difference in the world, and please God at the same time (Matthew 24:40,45)! Call or the church office. Hello David Chapel, Several people have asked for a Crown class so we will work toward that happening later in the year. Until then, here are some snippets from the chapter entitled, Ditching Debt. Before debt even exists, the seed of discontentment and covetousness exists in the heart, ready to sprout forth in a variety of destructive behaviors, including the accumulation of debt. The secret of contentment lies not in getting enough stuff, or even the right stuff, but in recognizing God as your Provider. If everything stays the same in your budget and your lifestyle, so will the debt (except it will likely increase). It would be insane to think otherwise. 3 David Chapel at Central Texas Food Bank, cont. We met new persons; having an opportunity to share our church and faith with them. We also got to know our own members better, working with some we normally do not have much contact with. It is nothing like working on a common goal to strengthen the bonds among people. The Central Texas Food Bank also has cooking and gardening volunteering opportunities that help K-12 students who usually receive food through school programs, to still receive nourishing food throughout the summer months. Other volunteering opportunities include, Mobile Food Pantry, warehouse morning, afternoon and evening shifts. Pastor Parker has developed a leadership training series for FY 2018 designed to empower and mobilize leaders to support the overall church vision, mission, and goals. 6 Pastoral Family Anniversary This October, we ll celebrate our beloved Pastor, First Lady, and family for their 26 years of dedicated service. Mark your calendars for a weekend packed with activities and events. The anniversary celebration minister will be Pastor John F. McCormick of the CrossWork Christian Center in Round Rock. Look for additional details in the coming months. A DC Website Ministry is being established and skilled volunteers are needed. The primary responsibility will be assisting with keeping the website updated. Sign-up in the fellowship hall or provide your name and contact information to Mrs. Diana Michael-Sonko (dmichael@davidchapel.org) in the church office. Thank you for your interest and willingness to serve in this capacity. Platinum Plus Senior Adult Ministry Weekend September 7-9, 2018 Save the date to celebrate with our fabulous platinums! The Platinum Plus Senior Adult Ministry will celebrate their ministry and its impact on DC and the community the weekend of September 7th. Activities will end with worship service on Sunday, September 9, The guest minister is Rev. Ivie Rich, Pastor of the St. Luke Baptist Church in Austin. Additional details will be forthcoming. 6

7 DAVID CHAPEL VOTER REGISTRATION CAMPAIGN 2018 Suffrage is the pivotal right. Susan B. Anthony The 2018 elections are right around the corner and DC is gearing up to ensure all members, their friends, neighbors, and even casual acquaintances 18 and older are registered to vote. Throughout August and September, the Voter Registration Campaign team will place voter registration forms around the church and be available each Sunday after morning worship in the Fellowship Hall to assist with the completion of a voter registration card. The team will also provide information about local polls and elections. The deadline to register to vote is October 9, 2018 for the November 6, 2018 elections. Questions? Contact Sis. AUSTIN S BIRTHDAY BASH Saturday, August 4 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM On August 1, 1839, Austin's first plots of land were auctioned off under what we now call the Auction Oaks in present-day Republic Square. This year on the 179th anniversary of this occasion, join us to celebrate the past, present, and future of our great city. A FREE day of all-ages activities and entertainment kicks off at 9:00 am with the SFC Farmers' Market and a free community workout led by Melody DanceFit. Plus, birthday party themed festivities, tons of games, artisan vendors, and fun activities for all ages! 7
