1 Student Organization Name: LDS Student Association (LDSSA) Date Prepared: 11/09/2006 Date Amended: 02/24/2017 Date Approved (LEAD Center staff): Approved by (LEAD Center staff): Constitution of the Latter-Day Saint Student Association (LDSSA) at the University of California, Berkeley PREAMBLE The Latter -Day Saint Student Association (LDSSA) is established by LDS students at UC Berkeley and the Berkeley Institute of Religion to help students attending the university have a balanced secular and spiritual educational experience during their years of formal education. ARTICLE I NAME The name of this organization is the LDS Saint Student Association (LDSSA) adjacent to the University of California, Berkeley, California. ARTICLE II PURPOSE

2 To encourage and support members of LDSSA in achieving their academic goals and maintaining a balanced life while on campus. To encourage members of LDSSA to become an influence for good by participating in activities and service on campus and in the community. Section 3 To provide students with meaningful service opportunities and social and religious activities that are consistent with LDSSA standards. Section 4 To promote traditional moral values. ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP Membership shall be open to all students enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley who espouse the purposes of LDSSA as stated herein. Only currently registered students, faculty and staff may be active members in a registered student organization. Only active members may vote or hold office. Notwithstanding any other provision, members shall abide LDSSA standards which are the standards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.

3 Section 3 We will not haze according to California State Law. We will not restrict membership based upon race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, pregnancy (including pregnancy, childbirth, and medical conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth), physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer related or genetic characteristics), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services (including membership, application for membership, performance of service, application for service, or obligation for service in the uniformed services). ARTICLE IV OFFICERS AND ADVISORS / ELECTIONS One or more faculty advisors shall be appointed by the LDSSA. All officers shall be students at the University of California, Berkeley. Officers shall be two co-chairs and other such officers as the co-chairs and advisor(s) determine necessary.

4 Section 3 The co-chairs are nominated by the advisor[s] and confirmed by a vote of LDSSA members. The co-chairs nominate other officers, who are then confirmed by a vote of the members. The co-chairs constitute the Executive Committee for the LDSSA. One of the co-chairs, as determined by the organization, acts as primary signatory for the student organization in all campus affairs. Section 4 Officers shall be voted upon annually (at the start of each fall semester) and will serve for the entirety of the school year, as long as they are both willing and able to do so. Section 5 The duties of the co-chairs shall include directing the meetings and activities of the organization. The co-chairs or his or her designee shall represent the LDSSA at the multi-organizational meetings at the University of California, Berkeley. Other officers shall act under the direction of the co-chairs, among other things, to plan and publicize meetings and events, to recruit members, and to maintain account of LDSSA funds.

5 ARTICLE V MEETINGS Meetings by the Executive Committee are to be held as often as deemed necessary to maintain the integrity and purpose of the organization. Any member may request special meetings to discuss needs or issues relative to the association. Special meetings will be announced through postings on the bulletin board and through services. Section 3 A quorum is considered to be at least 50% of all registered members and must include 50% of the executive committee ARTICLE VI CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS Any active member can propose an amendment by ing one of the LDSSA cochairs (the must include the description of the amendment and why the individual(s) deem the change necessary). The proposal will then be processed and voted upon by LDSSA s active club members in no more than two weeks from when it was proposed. If at least two-thirds of the active membership

6 vote in favor of the amendment, the amendment will be approved and members will be notified via as soon as possible. (Note: Amendments change the structure of the group and it is important to have 2/3 approval from the members at large so that there is strong agreement that the change should be made). Section 3 All amendments, additions or deletions to this document must be filed with the LEAD Center in 432 Eshleman Hall. ARTICLE VII DISSOLUTION Dissolution of the LDSSA at the University of California, Berkeley is decided by a two-thirds majority vote of all active club members. If the organization is ASUC or GA Sponsored, all unspent ASUC funds shall return to the ASUC; all Graduate Assembly funds shall return to the Graduate Assembly. If the organization is defunct for five (5) or more years, any privately obtained funds (including any funds left in miscellaneous accounts) shall be donated to the following nonprofit organization: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

7 In the event that the designated nonprofit organization no longer exists or has ceased to be a nonprofit, then the unspent funds shall be donated to the ASUC. ARTICLE VIII FINANCES There may be a minimal charge for some activities. Any funds collected will be handled and accounted for in accordance with procedures outlined by UC Berkeley for student organizations.

8 ARTICLE IX ENABLING ACT Upon approval of this constitution by the University of California, Berkeley, it shall become effective immediately
