Sme peple even write it ff as little mre than mythlgy r a cleverly-wrded, analgy-filled rewriting f past histrical events. Because f the bk s farfetched imagery and cryptic language, they refuse t believe it is speaking f as-yetunfulfilled events revealed t the apstle Jhn in the frm f prphecy. Yet, the pening lines f the first chapter clearly indicate that this is a bk f prphecy. Blessed is the ne wh reads alud the wrds f this prphecy Revelatin 1:3 ESV It claims t be the revelatin f Jesus Christ, given t Gd s servants s that they might knw the things that must sn take place (Revelatin 1:2 ESV). This is nt a synpsis f past events. It is nt a histry f the church. It is a revealing f things yet t happen. And its cntent, while difficult t understand, is nt meant t cnfuse r bewilder us, but t prvide us with encuragement. It lets us knw that ur Gd is in cmplete cntrl and has a plan in place that He is wrking ut accrding t His divine will and timeline. The bk f filled with descriptins f devastating plagues, csmic catastrphes, demn armies, persecutin, and divine judgment, but is intended t remind us that ur Gd is svereign ver all. He is greater than natins, nature, kings, kingdms, and armies, whether human r therwise. Yes, it is full f unbelievable images, difficult-t-cmprehend scenes, and unlikely events that stretch the human imaginatin. And while it may read like a science fictin nvel, it is the Wrd f Gd, nt the byprduct f sme 1st-Century authr s veractive imaginatin. In fact, the bk will end with the assuring wrds f an angel, wh states, These wrds are trustwrthy and true.
