3 High School Ministry, Two thousand years ago the Apostle Paul wrote to the Romans, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! His intention was to communicate the breathtaking mission of the church to proclaim the love of God in Christ to all the nations. Since those words were penned, countless men and women have risen to their feet and brought the good news of God s love to the world so that people could know Jesus. As a high school ministry we want to continue this mission in our generation. For that reason high school ministry will be doing four mission trips in 2019: Mexico (spring), Uganda (spring), Ukraine (spring) and Dominican Republic (summer) These trips have been selected because of the great ministry that is already happening there, the potential for the Gospel to spread through our trip and the appropriateness of the trip for teenagers. It is hard to overstate how excited we are about how God is building our passion for the nations in high school ministry. In this packet you will find answers to questions about the Uganda trip with respect to cost, fundraising, applications and many other topics. We hope to have provided you with an exciting, yet realistic picture of what this trip will be like. The most important thing, however, is that you feel God s call for you to be a part of this team. Many people worry about whether they will be able to go on a mission trip, particularly when it comes to the cost. My encouragement to you would be to spend time in prayer and ask God for clarity. If after prayerful consideration you believe that He says, go, go! You will never know how incredible God s provision is until you take a step of faith to trust him. If God calls you to go, He will provide the resources to make it happen. Mission trips are life changing, both for the team that goes and for the people we serve. To that end, please know this trip will stretch you and at times place you way outside your comfort zone. We believe that this is a good thing and will grow your trust in Christ. In high school ministry we talk a lot about what your next step is in following Jesus. Ask yourself, is this mission trip mine? If it is, then it is time for you to follow Jesus to the nations. 4 Luis and Mimi Luis & Mimi Ojeda founded Mt. Zion Church in Ensenada, Mexico by their work of household visitation, evangelistic crusades and discipleship as well as helping the poor. They endeavor by the grace of God to continue with the same vision and even more. They recently dedicated and opened Casa Shekina, which houses Kumiai Indian girls giving them an opportunity to attend school and become involved in a local church. Mt. Zion is a church willing to reach every lost soul and giving them the love of Jesus while meeting their specific needs. Mexico Mexico, officially called the United Mexican States (Spanish: Estados Unidos Mexicanos, is a federal republic in the southern portion of North America. It is bordered to the north by the United States; to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean; to the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and to the east by the Gulf of Mexico. Covering almost two million square kilometers (over 760,000 sq mi), the nation is the fifth largest country in the Americas by total area and the 13th largest independent state in the world. With an estimated population of over 120 million, the country is the eleventh most populous and the most populous Spanish-speaking state in the world while being the second most populous nation in Latin America. Mexico is a federation comprising 31 states and a special federal entity that is also its capital and most populous city. Other metropolises include Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla, Toluca, and Tijuana. According to the figures of INEGI, most Mexicans declare themselves Christian and most Catholics (almost 93 million adherents according to the census of 2010). [2] The second Christian group is the Jehovah's Witnesses, which totals more than 1 million adherents, making the Mexican congregation of this Christian branch the second worldwide. Thirdly find The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose members are known as Mormons, 2010 census reported 314,932 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, though the church in 2009 claimed to have over one million registered members; followed by Church of the La Luz del Mundo, which has its center in "La Hermosa Provincia", a colony of Guadalajara. The denominations Pentecostal also have an important presence, especially in the cities of the border and in the indigenous communities. In fact, Pentecostal churches together have more than 1.3 million adherents, which in net numbers place them as the second Christian creed in Mexico. The national language of Mexico is Spanish. The country has the largest Spanishspeaking population in the world, with almost a third of all Spanish native speakers. Almost all of the Mexican population speaks Spanish, 99.3% according to the latest census; nonetheless around 5.4% still speaks an indigenous language besides Spanish. The indigenous languages with the most speakers are Nahuatl, spoken by about 1.45 million people, Yukatek Maya spoken by some 750,000 people and the Mixtec and Zapotec languages, each spoken by more than 400,000 people.

5 Cost The cost for the trip is $235. This includes your accommodation, food, transportation, and the costs of our ministry to the local population. You will need to bring some spending money for food on our travel days as well as any souvenirs you would like to purchase. The balance must be paid before the trip begins. Managed Missions Online Software Each Team Member will be ed a log-in and password to our Managed Missions online program that will allow you to: Track your financial support See significant due dates and the team meeting schedule Track goals or tasks you still have to complete for the trip It is a good idea to add the Managed Missions website to your favorites list on your web browser once you receive your log-in and password so that you can access it easily and remember where it is.

7 How to Apply Fill out the Short-term Trip application by clicking the link at calvarycc.org/hsm-missiontrips. Please make sure you select Mexico Mission Trip under Trip Name. The deadline for applications is Sunday, September 30, You will be contacted by High School ministry staff to follow-up on your application and let you know whether you have been approved for the trip. If approved, a $235 payment is required to secure a spot on the team. This payment is due no later than Sunday, November 11. Payment can be made online at calvarycc.org/hsm-mission-trips or check made payable to Calvary Community Church with HSM Mission Trip in memo. Following the approved application and deposit, further instructions regarding fundraising and team training will be given. Immunizations, Vaccines & Medications All travelers should be up to date on routine vaccinations before traveling. These vaccines include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus- pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot. Hepatitis A, and Typhoid are recommended by the Center for Disease Control for travel to Mexico. Please note: Depending on what your family decides in consultation with your physician, these medications can cost several hundred dollars. We want you to have an accurate picture of the cost of this, so you are not surprised when you go to get them. 8 Passports The deadline to have passports copies turned into Calvary is January 27 th. This means you must have your physical passport in your hands by this date To obtain a passport, you will need a certified birth certificate (not the hospital record), two passport photos, and a driver s license. In addition, you will need to pick up a passport application from the post office and turn in the requested information to the postal clerk for processing with the US Passport Agency. You should allow 6-8 weeks before your trip for your passport to arrive. For further information about passport visit Please note: your passport must be valid for 6 months after the trip in order to be admitted into the country. If it expires less than 6 months after the trip, you must renew your passport before the trip. Children under age 16 cannot apply for a passport by themselves Both parents/guardians must appear in person with the child and provide consent, authorizing passport issuance to the child. If one parent/guardian is unable to appear in person, then the DS-11 application must be accompanied by a signed, notarized Form DS-3053: Statement of Consent from the non-applying parent/guardian. If the child only has one parent/guardian, evidence of sole authority to apply for the child must be submitted with the application in the form of a: Court order granting sole legal custody to the applying parent (unless child s travel is restricted by that order) A court order specifically permitting the applying parent to apply for the child s passport Judicial declaration of incompetence of the non-applying parent Death certificate of the non-applying parent Photocopies and notarized copies are not accepted

9 Travel Insurance Personal health insurance is required for trip participation. In addition to your own personal health insurance policy, travel health insurance will be purchased for each trip participant on international trips with a $1,100,000 policy limit that is included in the trip fees (rates dependent on age & term). This insurance provides major medical benefits, emergency medical evacuation, and repatriation coverage that your primary health insurance may not cover for overseas claims.
