6 exceed. Joh 1:31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. Joh 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. Joh 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. Joh 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. Joh 1:35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; Joh 1:36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! Joh 1:33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' 2011 changes of 'he' to 'the one' here continues to edge in "new age speak" Joh 1:34 X I have seen and I testify Joh 1:34 I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God." that this is God's Chosen One." 2011 change of Son to One = Gender Neutral Addition of the word 'Chosen' Joh 1:35 The next day X John was there again with two of his disciples. Joh 1:36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!" Joh 1:37 When the two disciples heard him say this, X they followed Jesus.

7 Joh 1:38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master, ) where dwellest thou? Joh 1:39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. Joh 1:40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. Joh 1:41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. Joh 1:42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. A man who owns slaves is their master; he who has servants is their master; he who has apprentices is their master; as he has the government and direction of them. The man who superintends and directs any business, is master, or master workman. Joh 1:38 X Turning around, Jesus X saw them following and asked, XX "What do you want?" They said, XX "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?" In education, a teacher (or, in the US, educator) is a person who provides schooling for pupils and students. A teacher who facilitates education for an individual student may also be described as a personal tutor. The role of teacher is often formal and ongoing, carried out by way of occupation or profession at a school or other place of formal education changes the punctuation Joh 1:39 "Come," he replied, "and Joh 1:39 "Come," he replied, you will see." So they went and "and you will see." So they went saw where he was staying, and spent and saw where he was staying, that day with him. X It was about and they spent that day with him. the tenth hour. It was about four in the afternoon changes the time from Hebrew to Roman Joh 1:40 Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. Joh 1:41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his X brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). Joh 1:42 And he brought him to Jesus. X Jesus looked at him and X said, "You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when translated, X is Peter). A stone vs. Peter Joh 1:38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?" They said, "Rabbi" (which means "Teacher"), "where are you staying?"

8 MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY - He gave him a new name: Cephas. [1.] His giving him a name intimates Christ's favour to him. A new name denotes some great dignity, Rev2:17; Isa62:2. By this Christ not only wiped off the reproach of his mean and obscure parentage, but adopted him into his family as one of his own. [2.] The name which he gave him bespeaks his fidelity to Christ: Thou shalt be called Cephas (that is Hebrew for a stone ), which is by interpretation Peter; so it should be rendered, as Act9:36. Peter's natural temper was stiff, and hardy, and resolute, which I take to be the principal reason why Christ called him Cephas - a stone. When Christ afterwards prayed for him, that his faith might not fail, that so he might be firm to Christ himself, and at the same time bade him strengthen his brethren, and lay out himself for the support of others, then he made him what he here called him, Cephas - a stone. Those that come to Christ must come with a fixed resolution to be firm and constant to him, like a stone, solid and stedfast; and it is by his grace that they are so. His saying, Be thou steady, makes them so. Now this does no more prove that Peter was the singular or only rock upon which the church is built than the calling of James and John Boanerges proves them the only sons of thunder, or the calling of Joses Barnabas proves him the only son of consolation. Joh 1:43 The day following Jesus following ~ next would go forth into Galilee, and would go forth into ~ decided to leave for findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. Philip saith unto him, Come and see. Joh 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him ~ approaching coming to him, and saith of him, Behold ~ Here is Behold an Israelite indeed, in an ~ a whom is no guile! TFD - Simon Peter (Greek:??t???, Pétros, "stone, rock"; [1] c. 1 BC AD 67), sometimes called Simon Cephas (Greek: S?µ????f??, Simon Kephas; Aramaic: Šim?on Kêfâ; Syriac:? Lõõõõ, Sëm?an Kêfâ) after his name in Hellenized Aramaic, was an early Christian leader, who is featured prominently in the New Testament Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles. Peter was the son of John or of Jonah, and was from the village of Bethsaida in the province of Galilee. His brother Andrew was also an apostle. Simon Peter is venerated in multiple churches, and is regarded as the first Pope by the Roman Catholic Church. Joh 1:43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, X he said to him, "Follow me." Joh 1:44 X Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. Joh 1:45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Joh 1:46 X "Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" Nathanael asked. "Come and see," said Philip. XX Joh 1:47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, X he said of him, "Here is a true Israelite, X in whom there is nothing false." Joh 1:47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit."

9 Joh 1:48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Joh 1:49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. Joh 1:50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. Joh 1:51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. no guile vs. nothing false NW- Craft; cunning; artifice; duplicity; deceit; usually in a bad sense. Joh 1:51 He then added, "Very truly I tell you, you will see 'heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on' the Son of Man." 2011 changes 'the truth' to 'Very truly' which is more in keeping with the KJV intended meaning. Again, 'shall' and 'will' are not interchangeable
