CIDA; AFRICA 8 AFRICA 8 Praise the Lord! A production of dramatized Scripture stories in Cida is now complete and the stories are being released one at a time on the Internet. The Scripture website is getting about one thousand hits a week, mostly from speakers of the language who have immigrated to other countries. Pray that the translation team will find ways to get the recordings directly into the country, possibly through radio broadcasts. Ask God to give creativity to the team as they consider how to improve the online feedback mechanism in order to increase communications between the audience and a local believer who is responding to their questions and comments. Above all, pray that these products will result in new believers and communities of faith. KWEME; AFRICA (40,000) The Kweme New Testament was completed and an additional review of it was carried out last year. Ask God to give alertness, joy, and wisdom to those involved in the typesetting. Pray for a good print job resulting in strong, durable books. Ask the Lord to show the translation team the best way to distribute and make the Scriptures available in this people group. Ask God to use the truth found in His Word to mature those who follow Christ. May the Scriptures draw others into a transforming relationship with Him. MARBLE; AFRICA The main translator in the Marble New Testament project suffered from ongoing health problems that prevented her from working. Praise the Lord that she is now able to work again. Ask God to continue to heal her body and keep her from further relapses. Pray for final revisions and consultant checks on the manuscript to be completed so that the New Testament can be recorded and distributed in audio format; it will then also be printed. Ask the Lord to direct the team in finding the best ways to distribute these Scriptures, and for hearts eager to receive them. NARA; AFRICA Rejoice! The Nara New Testament is now available in audio and PDF format on the Internet! Local believers are increasingly interested in the translation as they realize how much more clearly it communicates than regional translations they have used in the past. Pray for transformed lives through the Word in Nara. Ask for God s blessing on each step of the production process as the New Testament goes to print. Meanwhile, translation of the Nara Old Testament 1

continues to move forward. To keep the translation s progress on pace, pray for open schedules that will allow a translation consultant to meet with the Nara team when needed. RUPAIQA; AFRICA The process of consultant-checking the Rupaiqa Old Testament translation is almost finished, but the last stage has gone more slowly than expected. The main translator, expecting that the process would already be complete, made other commitments and is now only available to the rest of the team for a few weeks each year. Pray that God will provide a way forward, either through adding other qualified team members or by making a way for this senior translator to be involved, in spite of his other commitments. In the meantime, the local team has recognized that they need to revise the New Testament which they translated on their own several years ago. Pray that they will be able to find the right team members to be involved, and that the Lord will give guidance and patience through the process. 8 BENIN 8 AJA; BENIN/TOGO (512,000) Ask the Lord to give the Aja translators and consultants alert minds and sharp eyes as they evaluate each translated New Testament book this year. Pray that the translators will have sharp eyes and will pay great attention to detail as they keyboard these handwritten drafts, and then proceed to edit and revise their work. Earnestly ask God, in His grace, to continue to provide guidance, discretion, and provision for the team. Thank the Lord that local prayer warriors are standing with the team as intercessors. LIS MA RON; NIGERIA (75,000) With the entire New Testament drafted, the Lis Ma Ron team has turned its attention to the later steps in the translation process. Pray for the translators as they engage in the detailed team-checking and community-testing that will allow this translation to be as accurate as possible while also sounding natural in Lis Ma Ron. Thank the Lord for two new team members to help, and pray for further training in the translation software used by the team. Finally, pray for peace and security in the community. LOKAA; NIGERIA (350,000) Pray that God will empower the Lokaa team members with strength and stamina as they work on the last few Old Testament books remaining, checking and testing the text for naturalness and accuracy. Pray that they will remain alert as they standardize spellings in the books and other similar details. Thank the Lord that a new fulltime member has joined the team, and pray that more Lokaa speakers will lend support to the work in tangible ways. Finally, pray that the literacy department will get permission from the local government to teach the Lokaa language in schools, to facilitate the use of the mother tongue. MAYA; NIGERIA (50,000) Praise the Lord that many Maya are requesting their own copies of the trial editions of God s Word already circulating in their communities. The translation team has finished drafting all of the New Testament, and the translators are vigorously checking and revising the texts. Ask God to bless the team with good health and even greater speed and accuracy as they work to reach 21

the Maya people with His Word in good time. Pray for the literacy work taking place, that the training will be straightforward and effective so that more Maya can read the Scriptures for themselves. Finally, pray for productive farming seasons for the people. Over the past few years, the harvests have been poor. MBULA; NIGERIA (10,000) Local churches and communities are often a vital part of a translation project. Thank the Lord that, in answer to prayer, Mbula churches are increasingly standing with the New Testament translation project. With all the books drafted and only a handful yet to be checked with a consultant, the team members are focusing their attention on the final steps. Pray that a literacy coordinator s recent training will help him facilitate literacy among Mbula speakers, so that they can be prepared when the New Testament is soon printed. Ask also for the Lord s ongoing provision, for good health, and for protection for the translators and their families. Pray for success in their translation efforts and for good coordination of the project as a whole. MGBOLIZIA; NIGERIA (63,000) The Mgbolizia translation team is finishing a consultant check and preparing the completed New Testament for final proofreading and revisions. Thank the Lord for this team s good progress! Translator Ike said, God is using this project to develop me spiritually. I m happy to be part of this holy work. I pray that the Lord will give me power to do more for Him. Pray for good health for the two Mbgolizia translators and their families, as both have had serious health problems. Give thanks for the healing that has come from God s hand, and pray that nothing would delay the team as they prepare for typesetting and publication. MUSHERE; NIGERIA (10,000) Many difficulties have beset the Mushere team recently, including sickness, broken hearts, two team-related deaths, and equipment that doesn t work. Pray that God would comfort and encourage the translation team, and provide the right relationships for each team member in His good timing. Ask Him to bless the work of the team s hands, and show them a way to fix the broken equipment. Pray, too, that the Lord would fulfill their needs for wisdom, discernment, and a divine plan to reach their community with His Word. Thank the Lord for the team s progress in drafting and revision, even if it is slower than expected. MWAGHAVUL; NIGERIA (700,000) Several part-time workers have joined the Mwaghavul team to help review and test portions of the Mwaghavul translation of the Old Testament. It is no small task, but the team members are making good progress! The most recent goal was to check the book of Psalms with a consultant, and revision work proceeds well with other significant books. Pray that the translators can find creative ways to adjust the translation so that it speaks in clear, natural Mwaghavul, while remaining faithful to the meaning of the text. NGAS; NIGERIA (450,000) One of the Ngas translators had to return to his teaching position, which takes him away from the translation project. Pray that he would be able to continue to work closely with the team in addition to his teaching. The team has drafted almost all of the Old Testament and is checking these books carefully amongst themselves and remotely with a consultant. Ask the Lord to show the Ngas team members ways they can work more quickly, without loss of quality. Praise God that the team increased their computer and Internet skills, allowing them to have better and more frequent contact with the consultant. The Ngas writing system is also under review; pray that the local language regulatory board will make good decisions to improve the alphabet so that more people will feel comfortable using it. NIGERIAN PIDGIN; NIGERIA (30,000,000) Praise the Lord that the Nigerian Pidgin audio New Testament was joyously received in a public ceremony 22

in Warri on June 15, Subsequent launchings were held in two other major cities of Nigeria. Requests for the New Testament CDs have been too numerous to count! The team is also enjoying God s blessing on the Old Testament translation project, and recently checked over twenty Old Testament books translated into Nigerian Pidgin. Ask God to keep the team in good health and protect them from frustration due to intermittent electricity as they work steadily toward their goal of finishing the Old Testament before Pray for the team members to have focused attention to detail as they continue evaluating the texts and checking them for historical accuracy and consistency. OBOLO; NIGERIA (250,000) Hallelujah! Plans are being made to celebrate the Obolo Bible at Easter, a good time for the people to gather. Pray that the Bibles will arrive in time from a printer in South Korea. There is much excitement among the people as they anticipate having the whole Bible in their heart language. In raising funds for the printing and transportation, Obolos everywhere wanted to contribute! OKPHELA; NIGERIA (100,000) On March 30, 2013, the whole Okphela community thanked God for remembering them when they received the Okphela New Testaments. They joyously celebrated these precious books. Pray that God will use His Word to soften and turn many hearts toward Him. Ask Him to help the Okphela discern how to best use and implement the New Testaments in their churches and everyday life. Praise the Lord that the Okphela translation team transitioned smoothly into work on the Old Testament, so that their people can someday have the entire Bible in their heart language. RON; NIGERIA (115,000) The Ron community has undergone difficulties in the last few years, and in 2013, they endured several serious attacks from a neighboring community. Pray for God s peace to reign, especially in the hearts of the Ron believers. Ask God to help them continually remember to love and pray for their enemies, and ask Him to work in the hearts of those who attacked the Ron community. The translation team has made progress on the Ron New Testament despite these events, and they continue to test Scripture portions in the surrounding community to receive input on terms and language use. Ask the Lord to give them strength, good health, and endurance for the work ahead. Pray that there would be a spark of curiosity and a heart for the Bible in both the Ron people and the villages around them. TANGALE WEST; NIGERIA (130,000) Thank the Lord for the blessing of two new team members when the team needed them most. Pray for the entire team to have focused attention to detail as they navigate the intricacies of translation itself and project management. They are checking and revising many New Testament books to ensure a meaningful and accurate translation in Tangale West. Join the team in praying for a more permanent consultant to help them, and that God would orchestrate the best solution to help them meet their goals. Ask the Lord to grant the team favor from local government and 23

school boards as they seek to implement the Tangale language as a primary school subject, to increase mother tongue literacy. TAROK; NIGERIA (523,000) The Tarok translation team emerged from a time of adversity with a renewed sense of God s faithfulness, provision, and sustaining encouragement. Thank the Lord for proving Himself strong and for granting the team members the ability to keep working. Pray for them to have sharp eyes and wise minds as they continue to draft Old Testament books and then evaluate their translation and make necessary revisions. Lift up the team s consultant as he travels to meet with the team and local church leaders. Ask God to keep him safe and guard him from weariness. TERA; NIGERIA (100,000) Pray that the Tera translation team members will remain on track with their goals as they work, and thank the Lord for the small milestones along the way. One such victory was the completion of the Tera hymnbook last year. Praise the Lord that the people have access to materials such as this and the JESUS film. As churches eagerly wait for newly polished Tera Scripture portions, the translation team continues to work hard on finishing the entire New Testament. Pray for them as they seek to improve the naturalness and quality of translated Scripture. This process takes place in various steps first among the members of the team, then with a consultant, and finally, via testing in the villages. TULA; NIGERIA (60,000) The important work of translating God s Word has a wide impact if the people can access the truths that the Bible contains. The translation team is working hard to ensure that the Tula people can interact with Scripture in their mother tongue through worship and reading. Praise God that the team was able to complete a final read-through of the New Testament last year, ensuring that it speaks clearly and accurately to people s hearts. Ask God to bless them with creativity and insight as they carefully typeset the translated text to prepare it for printing and finalize last-minute details. Finally, pray that church leaders will be in step with God as they make plans for discipling and training their communities with Scripture in their heart language. TYAP; NIGERIA (130,000) The Tyap project was started over twenty years ago, and now that the New Testament is almost completed, the team went back to re-check the older books to ensure translation consistency. Praise the Lord for skilled translators and consultants who work diligently to produce accurate translations of God s Word. Pray for the team members as they take the necessary time to finalize last-minute details before sending the Tyap New Testament to the publishers. Ask God to bless the decades of effort that have gone into this work, and to use it to draw the Tyap people closer to Him. The translation team is gearing up to launch an Old Testament project as soon as they have completed the New Testament. 8 SENEGAL 8 BANDIAL; SENEGAL (11,200) The New Testament will be typeset early this year in Cameroon! Pray for the two mother tongue translators as they work alongside the typesetter. Ask God to give reliable and clear communication with the 24

linguist and exegete as they call the team from France by Skype. Pray for the Lord to grant wisdom to the team in the decisions they make. Lift up the printing process in prayer, that durable and clear copies will be produced. Pray for the funding needed to publish the New Testament. Claim God s promise in Philippians 4:19, And this same God will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus (NLT). The translators would like to hold the dedication at the end of BUDIK; SENEGAL (3,375) The finish line is in sight! Last year the expatriate team, located in the United States, made several trips back to Senegal to work with the mother tongue translators. They completed revising the New Testament and it will be typeset this year. The task seems overwhelming. Pray for God s direction and peace regarding decisions that need to be made, such as who will print the New Testament and what size type to use. The team will also continue to prepare Old Testament passages to print at a later date. Lift up the team in prayer, for strength, alertness, and joy. And ask God to stir up interest in the translated Scriptures among the Budik. New Tribes Mission - MANKANYA; SENEGAL/GUINEA-BISSAU/GAMBIA (65,000) Rejoice! The New Testament, together with Genesis, has been sent to South Korea for printing. Pray that the printing equipment will work well and will result in durable books with clear print. Ask the Lord to protect the books as they are transported back to Senegal and go through customs. Lift up in prayer the Mankanya people planning the dedication, which is expected to happen before midyear. As the Mankanya receive God s Word, pray that they will have open hearts to the love of Christ and experience the hope of eternal life. ONIYAN; SENEGAL (15,000) Since the project began in 2005, the Oniyan translation team has completed over half of the New Testament. However, the Oniyan team s consultant was recently diagnosed with serious health issues. Ask God to heal the consultant and to show the team how they should proceed in the meantime. Pray for the health and strength of the team members and their families as they work tirelessly to complete the translation. Give thanks for the many opportunities the team has had to teach His Word through repeated invitations by village chiefs. Pray that this will continue, and that God will supply the team members with the right words to say. Pray also for an increase in mother tongue literacy to take full advantage of the translated Scriptures. WAMEY; SENEGAL/GUINEA (20,000) Several missions have been working together to provide the Wamey people with a New Testament in their own mother tongue. Currently, the translation is 75 percent completed. Praise the Lord for their dedicated work, and for an Old Testament translation in progress at the same time. Ask God to guide the various ministries to the Wamey people, and to protect communication between the translation team and the local people. Pray that He will supply the translation team members with the energy and good health they need to finish this important work with joy. Finally, pray that the people will be interested in and accepting of the translation, and that God s Word will touch their hearts and minds as they read it in their mother tongue. 8 SEYCHELLES 8 SESELWA; SEYCHELLES (90,000) After many years of work, the Seselwa translation team will soon be done translating the Old Testament and revising the previously published New Testament. Ask God to bless the steadfast efforts of the translators by allowing their labor to result in a high-quality translation of His Word. Praise Him for the ongoing support and contributions of local churches, which have enabled the translation project to make it this far. Ask the Lord to give the translators and reviewers sharp eyes and astute minds as they scrutinize the Old Testament for any remaining errors. With God s help, they will be finished by the end of 2014, and then the full Bible can be typeset and printed. 25

8 SIERRA LEONE 8 KRIO; SIERRA LEONE (478,000) The complete Bible is now available in Krio, a language widely spoken in Sierra Leone! The Bible Society of Sierra Leone formally introduced the Bible to a large crowd gathered at the presidential lounge in the national stadium in Freetown on May 28, The former executive secretary of the Bible Society spoke passionately about the ups and downs experienced through the years, including interruptions like the devastating civil war of the 1990s. It is by God s grace and faithfulness the book is now complete and available, she exclaimed, holding high the Bible. Pray for God to encourage believers through His Word in their heart language, and that He would draw many others into His Kingdom. 8 SOUTH SUDAN 8 GBAYA; SOUTH SUDAN (16,000) The Gbaya translation team completed a consultant check of Matthew, Mark, Hebrews, and 1 3 John last year. Ask God to strengthen them, keep them alert, and give them wisdom as they work on getting to that stage this year on the remaining books of their New Testament Romans, 1 2 Corinthians, and Revelation. They are also working to complete a draft of Exodus so they can include Genesis and Exodus when they print the New Testament. Pray that the mother tongue literacy program will continue, even with the loss of many teachers due to a lack of training. Ask the Lord to help these teachers to return soon as fully certified instructors. Lift up the translation team in prayer, that they will feel God s protection and joy as they work with His Word. One Book - KELIKO; SOUTH SUDAN (70,000) As with many Sudanese projects, the Keliko team works on translating the New Testament under some security concerns. Pray for strength and safety for the team members as they seek to produce a completed Keliko New Testament by the end of Several books such as Mark, Galatians, Hebrews, and Revelation have been typeset, and trial copies of Mark and Hebrews have already been published. Pray that these printed books will be well-used and that their favorable reception will encourage the Keliko team. Ask the Lord to bless local literacy efforts among the Keliko people, so that they will be able to read their own mother tongue. Many teachers were recently sent for further training, to better equip them to teach the Keliko language. Pray that many will return to the project once they are ready! One Book TANZANIA 8 BURUNGE; TANZANIA (13,000) Family medical issues prevented the translation advisor for the team from returning from furlough. Thank the Lord that the translators made good progress anyway! Just a few books remain to be drafted and a number of books have been checked by a consultant. Pray for God s power to be evident in light of the challenges the team faces. They are trusting God to see the project through to completion. Ask the Lord to provide stable long-distance communications with the advisor, who is working remotely from the United States, so they can continue to make progress. Pray that the Lord will make it possible for him to return for visits each year. SOUTHEAST TANZANIA CLUSTER PROJECT MAKONDE, NGONI, AND YAO LANGUAGES; TANZANIA (3,520,400) Pray for peace and stability in Southeastern Tanzania, and ask God to keep recent unrest from resulting in anything serious. In the meantime, the three 26

translation projects in this cluster are making good progress. The Makonde translation team is testing several New Testament books for comprehension in nearby communities, and the Ngoni team is carefully drafting and revising the Apostle Paul s epistles. Ask God to give the members of the translation teams strength and continued passion to do their work well. However, there are major differences of opinion regarding which key terms they should use. This debate is holding up typesetting and printing. Pray that this issue will be resolved quickly so that the Bible can be typeset and printed, and so churches and individuals can use God s Word in their heart language. Pray that He will also give wisdom to the committee planning the dedication of the New Testament, so the celebration will glorify God and be a blessing to the people. Pray that the release of the translated Scriptures will spark a greater desire in the Igo speakers to learn to read their mother tongue. NTCHAM; TOGO (157,000) The Bible in Ntcham is being published by the Bible Society of Togo, and is being printed in South Korea. As they finalize remaining details on the Lubwisi New Testament, they are already drafting the Old Testament. Pray that God will keep the team healthy, strong, encouraged, and whole, especially after the loss of the project leader s wife. Thank the Lord that even in the difficult times, His blessings are manifest. The team benefitted from ways to increase solar power, which has been instrumental in accommodating the team s work and maintaining momentum. Ask God to give wisdom and Scripture use ideas to the team and others involved, even now before the New Testament is published. 27

Praise the Lord for an increase in churchgoers, and ask God to continue to show church leaders how to implement heart language Scripture into each service and event. Ask the Lord to provide good, helpful feedback from the community checks, and pray for discernment for the consultant as he reviews the team s work. Pray that each member of the team will be filled with God s Spirit so they will be able to translate with eagerness, joy, and wisdom. Pray that God s Word will fall on fertile soil among the Banyole people. 8 WEST AFRICA 8 KIBI; WEST AFRICA (430,000) Ask the Lord to give the translation team members wisdom as they decide where to print the New Testament. Last year, political tensions resulted in a loss of infrastructure in the heartland of the language group. Pray that the area will be rebuilt soon so that those in ministry who had to leave including the translation team can return. Pray that it would be possible to hold a dedication of the New Testament in the language area. Over 99 percent of the people are not Christians, so pray that they would be drawn to Christ through God s Word in their heart language. Ask God to bless each person for his or her generosity. The translators are drafting and evaluating many of the historical books of the Old Testament. One Nkoya chief recently 28
