1 Banks Teller JANUARY FEBRUARY 2018 Banks Community United Metodist Curc Web site: Pastor s revmargot@gmail.com NW Depot St. Banks, OR tat I may know Him and te power of His resurrection, and may sare His sufferings, becoming like Him in His deat, tat by any means possible I may attain te resurrection from te dead. Not tat I ave already obtained tis or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Crist Jesus as made me His own. Broters (and Sisters), I do not consider tat I ave made it my own. But one ting I do: forgetting wat lies beind and straining forward to wat lies aead, I press on toward te goal for te prize of te upward call of God in Crist Jesus. Let tose of us wo are mature tink tis way, and if in anyting you tink oterwise, God will reveal tat also to you. Only let us old true to wat we ave attained. Pilippians 3:10-17 (ESV) Wen I completed scool, and went to my first curc to serve as an associate, I entered a wole new world of te Desert Soutwest. Te appointment was at St. Jon s UMC in Albuquerque, NM. I arrived at te end of May, and te temperature was already well over 100 F. I kept exclaiming, It s so ot! Waves of eat radiated from te aspalt and te concrete. One morning on my way to te curc, I was discouraged. Tings did not seem to be going my way in te ministry. I felt overworked and grumpy. As I locked te car and eaded into te building, I saw a dandelion growing out of a crack in te pavement. Te morning was already very warm. Looking closer, I saw tat condensation from te roof was trickling down te spout. It was just drops of moisture, but it was nourising tis omely yellow bloom, causing it to trive in tat ars environment. (Continued on page 3.)

3 (Continued from page 1.) My eart began to rejoice at tis small part of creation receiving provision in te midst of an impossible situation. Life is sustained, someow, by te gift of grace beyond explaining. Wile we consider te forces beyond our control as we look to te coming year social cange, political unrest, uncertainty on every front, personal and worldwide let us press into all tat God as for us in Crist. Te Apostle Paul reminds us tat Jesus as made us His own. Listen for His call in te wonders He as already done is doing and will continue to do. Jesus makes a way for us to enter into Life wen we see no way. His love and watccare are assured. I will never leave you, nor forsake you, He says. (Hebrew 13:5) May te Lord ricly bless you and yours in 2018! Yours in Crist, Margot Dear Praying friends and supporters: As te new year dawns we look back and see te incredible tings God as done troug te mission trips tat He as allowed me to go on in We ave been able to treat tousands of poor Honduran wit teir medical and dental needs. Eac one as been presented wit te Gospel and many ave come to Crist. God is doing a great work among te Waorani Indians of Ecuador as my Ecuadorian co-workers reac furter into teir territory and sare te Ligt of te Gospel in tis dark area of Ecuador. As I look forward to 2018 and realize tat eac day brings us closer to te return of Crist, we ave te great responsibility to get te Good News to te lost. I ave four dates set aside for medical/evangelistic trips in Feb to Ecuador, taking medicine and dental to te Waorani Indian tribe in east Ecuador. April 7-15, June 9-17, and Sept medical/evangelistic trips to Honduras. Connie is praying about taking a group of ladies in July sometime to elp out at Camp Hope. I would really appreciate you putting tese dates on your prayer list. Wit tis year coming to an end people are looking for places or ministries to send teir year end contributions. If tere are some of you still looking and praying about wo to send to I would be onored to receive any elp you can be. It takes a lot of meds and dental supplies to elp so many people we elp, airline tickets in country costs always seems to be rise and it as been a callenge to come up wit funds. God as been so faitful is suppling tese needs and uses friends, supporters and families to accomplis His Purpose. I tank you in advance for any elp you can be. Tis year we are back in te West looking at te Curc during Medieval times. Te fall of te Roman Empire in 476 AD is considered te beginning of te Medieval period but we started a bit earlier wit Constantine declaring Cristianity legal wit te Edict of Milan in 313. Ten moved on to Augustine of Hippo in te mid 300 s, as is teology was of great power and lasting influence in te ensuing centuries. We also learned about anoter Augustine wo was te Apostle to te Englis sent by Pope Gregory--- e converted many, and Canterbury became te seat of Englis Cristianity in te late 500s. We ten looked at te Desert Faters, St. Antony, te fater of monks, and te beginning of Monasticism wit St. Benedict and is Rule. Most recently we reviewed te celebration of Hanukka and te Maccabean Rebellion. In te next few weeks we will be in te Byzantine Empire wit Justinian in te 500s, wic continued to trive after te collapse of te Western Empire until it later fell to te Ottoman s in Te rest of te year we ll be looking at oter medieval personages up until te Reformation in te 1500s. CHAPLAIN QUILTS Leola Stigleman and Gail Habous made quilts for te Caplains to carry in teir veicles to give to victims in emergency situations. We presented tem to Dexter Danielson, a Caplain for Forest Grove.
