Inhabted argey by freshmen, and heated n those eary tmes by tte coa stoves, the Od Fourth was the happy huntng ground of the sopho mores. It s rumored that n those days the cosecp was the prevang stye n freshman harcuts, and many a bed sat found t way to the scrap heap under a servce far more exactng than that for whch t had been made. To see a freshman eatng hs breakfast standng up was not by any' means an unusua sght. Hazng ganed ground before the enghtened thought of advancng» years, unt the ancent custom was vountary outawed by the student body more than ffteen years ago. Succeedng coege generatons occuped the Boody Fourth, now steam-heated from the centra power pant, wth scant consderaton for the wdtaes deang wth the youthfu days of the venerabe structure. Even the name tsef was a but forgotten. The budng, unt recenty, coud not, by any stretch of the magnaton, be caed modern. The rooms were wthout cosets, the paster fe wth monotonous reguarty, and the rough woodwork eered brazeny through a dozen coats of pant. There were no bath-room factes, and students, obeyng the mpuse of ceanness, were forced to don a fappng bathrobe and vst the showers n an adjacent dormtory, or the Y. M. C. A. It s dfferent now.
