We have been watng four years for ths thng to happen. Cheer up, feows, our dreams are about to come true. ' Durng'the frst week of schoo our Senor Cass presdent met Wth an accdent. Soon afterwards the presdent of the Sophomores met wth an accdent. We are not supersttous, but just the same, f we were Freshmen, we woudn t potc very much for the presdent s pace when the cass eecton s hed. When the orchestra at the State Theatre payed our Ama Mater Monday afternoon approxmatey three peope cheered. Later another State Coege song, whose musc was borrowed from Sousa, was ayed. State students a over the house then rased ther voces oud- y n approva. for yen to k WAKE EM UP!. Often we hear the cry of too many organzatons n a coege communty. If we are not mstaken, State Coege s rapdy marchng to that state of affars. What seems to us to be a fary good thng to do woud be to re juvenate a ong-negected member who has sumbered peacefuy these many years, except for an abrupt ca once a year. Ths stagnant organzaton to whch we refer s the county cub. Custom and vanty nduce us to bech forth the prce for a pcture n The Agromeck, and then t s usuay a over'unt exacty one year. Here s a possbty. The county cub may be used for many thngs. It can become an agency for brngng more men here f we are foosh enough to go wd over mere numbers and most of us are. It coud create a feeng of feowshp among us f We gave t the opportunty. It may be made to serve as a soca unt, to f a gap n the ves.of' new men especay. Fnay t may hep n the task of presentng State Coege, just exacty as t s, to the peope of North Carona. Such a presentaton, we thnk, woud be of more vaue than the ravng of some magnatve newspaperman or the soft stuff that s usuay handed out by coege papers. _ WHICH IS BETTER? _ The proceedngs and concusons of the Student Counc have ong been a subject for dscusson. Many of our eaders n campus fe have thought that the pan of secrecy was best. Others have thought that pubcty was preferabe, and have sad so. We are rasng ths queston purey from the standpont of the news nvoved. It s not the purpose of ths edtora to dscuss the merts of ether system from the standpont of the Student Coun. We are ookng at t from the pont of newspapermen. The begnnng of the year seems to us agood tme to have some opnons from students and facuty on ths matter; Everyone knows that newspapers prnt much matera that no one s especay proud of, yet t s news and the peope are entted to know about t. Shoud prnt the detas of the affar when severa. men are found guty of breakng a aw of the student gov ernment? Whch of the two courses, secrecy or pubcty, w do most toward reducng offenses? We have attempted to ay the queston before the student body, for t s ther government, and s ther paper. Our desre s to make serve n the fuest measure. We w apprecate any comment on ths matter from anyone nterested. FOURTH DIME NSION TECHNICIA of matera words. And f" they can say Law, why then they thnk there s no God at a. But t may. be that He s that Law of whch, you tak so gby, and that some day you w be abe to say, as J aeob sad of hs camp ground, Surey God s n ths Law, and I knew t not.,... But do not go out to hunt for Hm; become aware of Hm: Coser s He than breathng, And nearer than hands and feet. That God, the God of experence, the God that you experence, s the ony God you w ever knew, or ever can know. The Freshmen had severa pays that at frst caught the Varsty unaware, and before they coud be broken up Abrght and Outen had ether crced the ends or perced the ne for nce gans. The sdesteppng of Abrght and the pungng abty of Outen were very notceabe. The work of Deadmon on end and Es on tacke, both A-State men, was very conspcuous, aong wth that of Foyd and Goodwn. McDowe was the prncpa ground ganer for the veterans, whe Jeanette, Kgore and Shuford aso payed we. After the openng exercses, n whch Dean Coyd made severa announcements and read some Scrpture passages and "Daddy" Prce ed the assemby n some strrng songs, Mr. Cark, head of the Engsh Department, took charge of the program. He presented a members of the department to the new men, wth the excepton of Mr. Wson of the Busness Engsh casses, who was absent on account of ness. The purpose of the department, he expaned, s to gve the best possbe nstructon n a phases of Engsh taught here, to devote more tme and energy to ndvduas, and to foster a better reatonshp and understandng between students and the facuty.. Dr. T. P. Harrson then went on to te, n deta, the organzaton and object of the' Language and Composton Department, of whch he s the head. He gave nterestng exampes and facts about the word-wde use of the Engsh anguage and the vaue of beng abe to use t correcty and. forcby. The Engsh anguage, n-. cudng about four hundred thousand words, s, n the opnon of some of the word s greatest schoars, the most perfect tongue that has ever been wrtten or spoken and has more wrt-i ngs and a greater terature tha any, ot hers Wth ths to work wth, Dr. Harrson and hs coeagues ntend to teach ther students to take from wrtngs ther utmost meanng and to teach them correct expresson, both ora and wrtten. Mr. Stewart Robertson, head of the Department of Journasm, gave a bref descrpton of hs courses. He tod what news s, how t s gathered and wrtten for newspaper pubcaton, and expaned the organzaton of a newspaper wth ts separated busness and edtora departments. The South has deveoped ts resources very much n the ast ffty years. The raw products that were once waste materas are now beng used to great advantage. The Sand Hs have partcuary deveoped ther resources. Ony thrty years ago the Sand Hs were a barren waste of sand and backjacks. Today the Sand Hs are not the same stretches of waste and. It has been converted nto vast frut farms, poutry farms, and truck farms. The best frut n the word s grown on these Sand Hs. Ths statement has been proven because ths frut s n great demand even n foregn natons. The reason for ts great deveopment s the raroad factes. There are ong refrgerator trans on hand at a tmes, prepared to carry ths pershabe frut to Northern markets. There s a arge ce pant n the center of ths secton that handes the work of cng the cars. Not STUDENT FORUM I wonder f every one thnks that our Student Counc took the rght step ast week when they passed rues whch sad that the Sophomores coud no ongerpay trcks or have fun wth the Freshmen? Personay, I'm afrad they took the wrong step, because the Freshmen w; not have the rght coege sprt f we treat and respect them as hghy as we do the Senors. Yes, I know there are some who w argue that we are voatng a State aw when we hod our Kangaroo Courts" and other partes for the Freshmen. but suppose we were arrested and brought to court what woud the courts do wth us? It s my opnon that the courts woud turn us oose and perhaps te us t was nothng more than our duty to ntate the new men. I have heard qute a number of Freshmen say that they dd not fee at home snce the Sophs had dscontnued to vst them wth ther paddes." W these Freshmen fee ke upper-cassmen next year? How can they f they are respected as upper-cassmen ths year? May I ask you, dd our Student Counc take the rght step when they sad stop payng trcks on the Freshmen? J. R. HERMAN. At the begnnng of every schoo year the students of the coege do not consder the rghts of others as they shoud. Every year the pace s rushed to death for rooms, therefore some of the students are put n the coege nfrmary, partcuary freshmen. They seem to thnk, after they have been paced there, that they.- can do as they pease and stay as ong as ong as they ke. Ths s the wrong dea. Suppose the nurse shoud have severa sck feows to come n.
