7 Stephen s Accusers Act 6:11-15 Then they suborned (instructed privately, instigated, to suggest to the mind) men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous (slanderous, abusive) words against Moses, and [against] God. And they stirred (threw into commotion, excited )up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon (placed above and came at) [him], and caught him, and brought [him] to the council,

8 Stephen s Accusers And set up false witnesses,(psuede martyrs) which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us. And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

10 I. Doing away with Stephen did not do away with God s message. Acts 7:54 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the quick, and they began gnashing their teeth at him. a. This is the word that will stand forever even after Stevens death.

11 II. Doing away with a spirit filled messenger caused God s message to intensify Acts 6:55-57 But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God;

12 III. Real Forgiving Witnesses always leave with: Acts 7:57 60 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

17 The Reality Of Forgiveness Under Roman Law The Jewish Sanhedrin could not put a person to death.yet the Roman Government did nothing about the illegal death of Stephen. Although Stephen is the first martyr for Christ he certainly wasn t the last Vicious attacks will continue upon those who will be martyrs God will continue avenging the blood of his martyrs..therefore be faithful until death.

18 Stephen Compares Truth To The Robber Stephen Beliefs Sanhedrin Beliefs Obeyed God s Word and Holy Spirit Believed The Laws As Given To Moses Disregarded God s Word and Resisted Holy Spirit Disobeyed The Laws of Moses Obedient To The Prophets Ignored All The Prophets Had Respect For The Temple of God Was The Cause For The Temple Being Destroyed Again and Again

21 Paul Ultimately Preached What He Condemned Stephen For Preaching 2 Timothy 2:14-19 Of these things put [them] in remembrance, charging [them] before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, [but] to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane [and] vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

22 Paul Now Experienced What Stephen Forgave Him For Practicing 2 Timothy 3:12-17 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

24 Paul Had To Look Up And See The Same Jesus That Stephen Saw Hebrews 4:11-16 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things [are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast [our] profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
