Introduction The Jehovah s Witnesses, Mormons, Seven Day Adventists, Christadelphians and other religious sects all tell of a different Jesus, both from one another, and from the bible; so who really is Jesus Christ? The Apostle Paul made it clear in Corinthians that there would be those coming who have another Jesus: 2 nd Corinthians 11:4 KJV For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. My family were Jehovah s Witnesses before coming to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation they taught me to always read the bible and take no man at his word. Coming from such a background, I have learned the value of knowing the scriptures, not only reading them, but studying them in order to avoid deception from the teachings of men, allowing the Holy Spirit to work and reveal - as the scripture says He will guide thee into all truth. John 16:13 KJV Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. This booklet aims to address the differences between what the bible teaches about the Lord Jesus compared to what the Jehovah s Witnesses teach about Him. The following topics concerning the Lord Jesus will be covered: Is Jesus Christ the Almighty God of Glory? Is Jesus Christ a created being? Is Jesus Christ an angel? Can Jesus Christ be worshipped? Is Jesus Christ the God of Creation? If you wish to read more specifically against the Watchtower Publication What does the Bible really teach, I have previously released a book titled The Truth is in Jesus, which is available to purchase through Amazon, either in hardback or digital form. If you have access to the internet, my previous book and this one can be downloaded from my website in digital form FREE of charge on the study notes page. I also have a series of videos aiming to expose the Watchtower Organisation s teachings and doctrines, which can be viewed on my website at:. Some of those videos also go into the subject of the deity of Christ, and may be a helpful addition to this booklet.

Is Jesus Christ the Almighty God of Glory? The Jehovah s Witnesses claim that they know Jesus; they will talk about Him, express that He is the one who paid the ransom sacrifice for mankind, and claim that He is the Son of God. Yet they still are ignorant of who He really is and ultimately have another Jesus. The apostle Paul warns Christians in scripture that there will come a time when others will come on the scene and bring with them another Gospel and with their Gospel they will also bring another Jesus. 2 nd Corinthians 11:4 (KJV) For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. The Watchtower makes claims that Jesus is inferior to the Father, not equal to God, and certainly not God. They claim that Jesus Christ is Mighty only, and not Almighty as the Father is. Below is an extract of their teachings on their version of Jesus Christ. "The Bible does not portray Jesus as being Almighty God or equal to God. On the contrary, it clearly teaches that Jesus is inferior to God. For example, the Bible records Jesus own words: The Father is greater than I am. (John 14:28) The Bible also says: No man has seen God at any time. (John 1:18) Jesus cannot be God because many people did in fact see Jesus. The Bible does not teach that God has a literal wife with whom he has fathered children. Rather, it calls Jesus the Son of God because Jesus was created directly by God, having qualities similar to those of his Father. (Awake - December Is Jesus God) This teaching that Jesus is not equal to the Father comes from the Gospel of John as you can notice in the above quote. The Father is great than I. This teaching is also in many other religious cult doctrines and organisations today as well. The Jehovah s Witnesses do like to create doctrines using only one verse of scripture without actually comparing scripture with scripture. One has to realise that when the Lord Jesus made this statement, He was referring to His position whilst on earth, bringing humbleness in His character. His position whilst on earth was as a lowly man. His position whilst on earth was of a position lower than the angels to which He Himself did create. The Hebrew writer confirms this with the following verse. Hebrews 2:9 (KJV) But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man. He positioned Himself as a lowly man, not high and lofty, for the suffering of death. He became a lowly man in order to redeem man from his sins. Zechariah 9:9 (KJV) Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. Further more, the Jehovah s Witnesses state that as the Father is greater than Jesus, therefore He is not equal to the Father. Their claim for this is found below: Is the firstborn Son equal to God, as some believe? That is not what the bible teaches - The only-begotten Son never even considered trying to be equal to his Father. The bible clearly teaches that the Father is greater than the Son (What does the bible really teach chapter 4) They of course look at this ignorantly, not rightly dividing the word of truth. The bible does actually teach that the Lord Jesus is equal to God the Father. John 5:18 (KJV) Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill Him, because He not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. The Jews were always contending to find fault with the Lord Jesus, listening to His words and wishing to kill Him because they accused Him of being blasphemous. The Jews knew exactly the claim He was making Himself to be, and they sought the more to kill Him. They knew that the Lord Jesus was making claims that He was equal to the Father, thus they tried several times to stone Him. This was an action through the law to stone someone when they had blasphemed. Leviticus 24:16 (KJV) And he that blasphemeth the name of the Lord, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death. When Paul wrote to the Church at Philippi he wrote to them explaining that the Lord Jesus was indeed equal to the Father. Philippians 2:6 (KJV) Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: The Lord Jesus, in His lowly state, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. These two verses (John and Philippians) both show up the error of the Watchtower s teachings above when stated that the Lord Jesus and the bible does not claim that He is equal to the Father. The Jehovah s Witnesses refer to Jesus as a Mighty God and not Almighty God they retain this doctrine with using one verse of scripture yet again. Isaiah 9:6 (KJV) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. When asking the question to Jehovah s Witnesses Is Jesus only a mighty God? they confirm and point to the above verse. Thus they deny that He is Almighty. The following chapter of Isaiah refers to the Father as mighty as well. Isaiah 10:21 (KJV) The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God. There can only be one mighty God, not two. The bible declares that there is only one true God. Jeremiah 10:10 (KJV) But the Lord is the true God, He is the living God, and an everlasting king: at His wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide His indignation.

And as the Father is Almighty, so is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is not the same person as the Father, nor is He the Father, but He is the same God and equal to His Father. To show from scripture that the Lord Jesus is Almighty, I would like to compare scripture with scripture. 1 st John 4:12 (KJV) No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us. The scriptures tell us that no one has seen God at any time. This is repeated by the same author in his Gospel. John 1:18 (KJV) No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him. The Jehovah s Witnesses claim Jesus cannot be God, because no man hath seen God and many persons saw the Lord Jesus. When John wrote this, he was referring to the fact that no one has seen the full Godhead deity (all three persons of the Godhead) and no man hath seen the Father. John 6:46 (KJV) Not that any man hath seen the Father, save He which is of God, He hath seen the Father. Not one person in history has seen the Father at any time. The Mormon Church claimed that Joseph Smith (The founder of the Mormon Church) met the Father and the Son in a woodland area in America before he wrote the book of Mormon this of course is ridiculous and goes against scripture. Therefore as the bible states that no man has seen God at any time, the question is, who did Abraham meet in Genesis 17? Genesis 17:1 (KJV) And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. The Jehovah s Witnesses look at this verse and claim that Abram met an angel or a messenger of God. However the scripture above does not indicate this at all. An angel does not have the authority to claim that he is Almighty God; a messenger cannot claim that he is Almighty God. Only God can claim He is Almighty. However as the bible states that no man has seen the Father, whom did Abram meet in this chapter? The answer can be found by comparing the scriptures. John 8:56-59 (KJV) Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto Him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. Then took they up stones to cast at Him: but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. along with some laughter from the crowd. Then the Lord Jesus makes the claim that before Abraham was, I am giving a title that only belongs to God. This infuriated the Jews to the extent that they tried to stone Him for being blasphemous. The title of I am is recorded in Exodus. Exodus 3:14 (KJV) And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. God has the title of I AM to which the Jews would have been familiar with. When the Lord Jesus claimed He was alive and the I am before Abraham, this enticed the Jews to cast stones at Him. There are other persons in the Old Testament who saw God, and thus in hindsight it would appear to be a contradiction in scripture when compared to No man hath seen God at anytime yet as mentioned this is referring to the full Godhead rather than the Son or rather the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus. Exodus 6:3 (KJV) And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. Isaac and Jacob also had met the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus. There is an error in the New World Translation relating to this verse which shows up that the New World Translation is false. There are many other contradictions from the New World Translation, however to highlight this one, you have to know that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob did not know God by the name of Jehovah. Yet the translators of the New World Translation claimed that when Abraham met God He was introduced as Jehovah to him. Genesis 18:3 (NWT) Then he said: Jehovah, if I have found favor in your eyes, please do not pass by your servant. The New World Translation substitutes the word Lord from its scriptures in the Old Testament and replaces it with the word Jehovah, which upon doing so creates vast errors in their own translation. The correct translation of this verse is found in the King James Version. Genesis 18:3 (KJV) And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: Abraham did not know God as Jehovah, as Moses was instructed later on in Exodus. He only knew Him as Lord God Almighty. The word Lord is a title and a name as well as the name Jehovah. Isaiah 12:2 (KJV) Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation. The title Lord in Isaiah appears before Jehovah. Thus when Abraham spoke to God in Genesis 18, the correct term he used was in fact Lord and not Jehovah. Lord is a title, and Jesus is referred to as the Lord of lords, not Jehovah of Jehovah s for there is only one Jehovah. The Lord Jesus made the claim that He had seen Abraham. The Jews mocked Him by saying that He is not yet reached the age of fifty and He is claiming to have seen Abraham, perhaps

As seen that this was indeed the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus who had met Abraham here in Genesis 17 and Genesis 18 let me show you further from scripture in Genesis where two persons of the Godhead are clearly shown. First of all, in Genesis 18 the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus was communing with Abraham and they were discussing Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham tried to bargain with the Lord not to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah should there be any righteous people living there. Upon their discussions and agreements, the pre-incarnate Lord left communing with Abraham at the end of Genesis 18 and judgement came onto Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19. God judged Sodom and Gomorrah, and there is evidence that two persons of the Godhead were at work. Genesis 19:24 (KJV) Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; The pre-incarnate Lord Jesus who was on earth communing with Abraham was now in action to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah and He did so by raining fire and brimstone from the Lord out of Heaven, clearly two persons at work. Upon reading Genesis 17 through to Genesis 18 you will have also noticed that Abram was given a new name of Abraham by again the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus. Genesis 17:5 (KJV) Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. Upon learning this, Nehemiah explains that it was God who gave Abraham his name. Nehemiah 9:7 (KJV) Thou art the Lord the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham; This is further evidence that the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus is also God. He is not the Father. The Jehovah s Witnesses believe that God is only one person, thus when a claim is made that Jesus is God, they respond and ask how Jesus can be the Father. In the New Testament in the book of Acts, the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus had a mention in a sermon and was referred to as the God of Glory. Acts 7:2 (KJV) And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran. Knowing that no man hath seen the Father at any point in history, it is clear that these verses are pointing to none other than the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus. Not an angel, not the Father and not a messenger of God. The Jehovah s Witnesses state that Abraham had met an angel in Genesis 17, however upon looking further into Genesis, this is not the case. Genesis 24:7 (KJV) The Lord God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; He shall send His angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence. Abraham confessed that he did in-fact speak and hear from the God of Heaven, to which also God made reference to him that He would send His angel. This provides evidence that Abraham never spoke to an angel in Genesis 17, but rather the Lord God of Heaven. On the note that the God of Glory appeared to Abraham, there is further evidence from scriptures that the Lord Jesus is the God of glory. Revelation 19:1-2 (KJV) And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: For true and righteous are His judgments: for He hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of His servants at her hand. John s vision in Revelation showed much people in heaven praising God. But which person in the Godhead were they looking towards. The answer can be found by examining these verses and comparing them with other scriptures. Firstly, examine the above verse and note five key words; Salvation, Glory, Honour, Power, and His Judgements. Let s examine these key words together: Salvation: The bible declares that there is no salvation in any person other than the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12 (KJV) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Salvation is not found in an organisation, it is not found in works, it is not found in any other person of the Godhead other than the person of the Lord Jesus. The bible states that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Therefore it is only through the person of the Lord Jesus that salvation can be found. Recognising that there is a God and calling Him Jehovah will not save a person, it is coming to the Lord Jesus Christ in your need that you are a sinner and it is Him alone that cleanses in His own blood all sin. Glory: The bible tells us that God gives His glory to no one else and He retains His glory. Isaiah 42:8 (KJV) I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. It is clear from reading the above scripture that God gives His glory to no one else. Yet we read in Johns Gospel that the Lord Jesus claimed to have this same glory as His Father. We read the following as He was praying to His Father. John 17:4-5 (KJV) I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. The Lord Jesus made it clear that He had the same glory as His Father and yet God gives His glory to no one else, showing that the Lord Jesus and the Father although are separate persons, they are the same God.

Honour: The people in heaven shouted honour to the Lord God, and it is clear from scriptures that all men are commanded to honour the Son even as they Honour the Father. John 5:23 (KJV) That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent Him. The Jehovah s Witnesses do not worship the Lord Jesus or give honour unto Him, and therefore do not honour the Father. Power: The people in Heaven then praised the God for His power. The only one who has power is God. The Lord Jesus made a claim in Matthew 28 that He had all power. Matthew 28:18 (KJV) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. To claim to have all power you therefore must be Almighty to have all power. The Lord Jesus told His disciples that He had all power on earth, and also that He had all power in Heaven as well. His Judgements: The people in Heaven were commending God for His Judgements upon the earth, I showed earlier in Genesis 19, that the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus judged Sodom and Gomorrah, and we can read further in the Gospels that all judgements have been committed to the Son. John 5:22 (KJV) For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: As the people in Heaven were praising God for His Judgements upon earth, they were looking directly to and worshipping none other than the Lord Jesus Christ calling Him Lord God. Thomas knew exactly who the Lord Jesus was, and after His resurrection, Thomas looked upon Jesus and called Him Lord and God. John 20:28 (KJV) And Thomas answered and said unto Him, My Lord and my God. The Lord Jesus never rebuked Thomas for calling Him God but yet rather commended Him. John 20:29 (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. In the book of Acts, Stephen when being stoned called Jesus God. Acts 7:59 (KJV) And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Therefore to deny that Jesus is God, and to deny that He is equal to His Father is downright blasphemous and teaching against what the bible says. The Watchtower claim that Jesus is not God and not equal to His Father, and thus have another Jesus not according to the bible, which brings us back to the words of Paul when he stated that there are those who preach another Jesus, and the Jesus of the Watchtower cannot save which I will explain and show why in the Trinity chapter of this book. Is Jesus Christ a created being? Jehovah s Witnesses will try and explain on street corners, door step calls and even propagate on their website and literature that Jesus Christ is a created being. They will go a step further and claim that He is an angel even Michael the archangel (I will cover this in the next chapter). The following quote from their publication explains that they teach Jesus Christ is God s first created being. Jesus is Jehovah's most precious son - and for good reason. He is called the First-born of all creation, for he was God's first creation. (What does the bible really teach Chapter 4) They take this from the book of Colossians where it explains that Christ is the firstborn of all creation. Colossians 1:15 (KJV) Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: Therefore by looking at the above verse, Jehovah s Witnesses conclude that the Lord Jesus was actually created in that He was born. However, as mentioned previously, Jehovah s Witnesses love to create doctrines from single verses without examining the entire context of the meaning of firstborn. The term firstborn used in the above verse does not indicate that the Lord Jesus was the first of God s creation; rather that He is given the pre-eminence over all creation. Although through scripture there were times when firstborn was used in reference to indicate a first child of that family, the term firstborn also refers to the pre-eminence that is given to that person. Let me show you an example from the Old Testament concerning this before I go back into Colossians. Psalm 89:27 (KJV) Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. This verse if you were to read it in its entire context, is speaking of God s covenant with David in a future reign to come (The Millennial period) God explained that He had planned that David will become higher than the kings of the earth, and become God s firstborn. The context of this chapter does not indicate that David was the first born in a family and upon looking at David s family you will notice that David was the youngest from at least seven brothers. 1 Chronicles 2:13-15 (KJV) And Jesse begat his firstborn Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimma the third, Nethaneel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, Ozem the sixth, David the seventh: David was the youngest in his family, and looking back in the book of Psalms you will notice now that David was referred to God s firstborn meaning he will receive the pre-eminence over all the kings of the earth in a future date. In essence David will become the chief of the kings of the earth in a future date to come. The term chief in the bible refers to the head that has the pre-eminence over his people. Looking

back into Genesis, Pharaoh had a chief butler and a chief baker, both who were officers of Pharaoh and yet they were the chief in their positions who would have corresponding men under them. David had an officer who had the title the chief ruler, his name was Ira. 2 nd Samuel 20:26 (KJV) And Ira also the Jairite was a chief ruler about David. Therefore as I have explained that the term chief refers to someone having pre-eminence over someone we can further read in the Old Testament concerning someone who was made chief in their family. 1 Chronicles 26:10 (KJV) Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons; Simri the chief, (for though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him the chief;) The term firstborn in this context is referred as the first person born in their family, yet Simri in this context was not the first born in his family, however Hosah his father made him the chief and by doing so, gave him pre-eminence over all his family. The same can be said about the person of the Lord Jesus, the bible does not state anywhere in the entire word of God that He is a creation of God, yet rather it confirms that the Lord Jesus has the pre-eminence over all things, in that the Father gave Him this position. Colossians 1:16-18 (KJV) For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the pre-eminence. The Lord Jesus Christ is before all things; and all things were created by the Lord Jesus. This is confirmed again in John s Gospel. John 1:3 (KJV) All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. The bible explains that nothing was made without Him, and that ALL things were created by the Lord Jesus and yet the Jehovah s Witnesses make a claim that the Father created someone without Jesus being there. The Lord Jesus never created Himself; He was always there from everlasting. Micah 5:2 (KJV) But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. The prophecy of Micah explains that the Lord Jesus who will be ruler in Israel came from everlasting. Micah knew that the saviour of the world was never created; he knew that the saviour of the world came from everlasting. The Jehovah s Witnesses claim that Psalm 23 referring to the good shepherd is speaking of Jehovah (The Father) when this is not accurate; they state this in their own bible, the New World Translation. By looking at the below, and the Lord Jesus role as the good shepherd we can see the pre-eminence He has over His flock. Psalm 23:1 (NWT) Jehovah is my Shepherd. I will lack nothing. The Jehovah s Witnesses state that Jehovah is one person, namely the Father. However when comparing this with other scriptures we can clearly see that the good shepherd is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. Psalm 23:1 (KJV) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. The Lord Jesus explained when He was on earth, that He is the good shepherd. John 10:11 (KJV) I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth His life for the sheep. The Lord Jesus gave His life for the sheep, and when we look at the position of His role as the good shepherd further in the New Testament, we can see that there is no one higher than Him in His role as the good shepherd. 1 st Peter 5:4 (KJV) And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. The chief shepherd is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ; He is the Chief of the flock in that He has the pre-eminence over all things and He is the one that will soon appear. A title of God found in the Bible tells us that God is great and no one else is like Him. No one else can claim this title. 2 nd Samuel 7:22 (KJV) Wherefore thou art great, O Lord God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. Yet the Hebrew writer explains that the Lord Jesus is the great shepherd of the sheep. Hebrews 13:20 (KJV) Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant. In conclusion to the role of the shepherd, the Bible explains that the Lord Jesus is the good shepherd, the chief shepherd and the great shepherd all of which points evidence to the fact that the Lord Jesus is equal to His Father. The Old Testament validates that God is the Shepherd, thus we can compare from the New Testament titles which the Lord Jesus claimed which only belong to God, consequently indicating that He is equal to His Father. Looking at the First and the Last reference in scripture, it is clear when scriptures are rightly divided that the First and the Last is the Lord Jesus. Jehovah s Witnesses claim that the First and the Last belongs to Jehovah the Father and not the person of the Lord Jesus. It should become obvious in knowing what the first and the last is in reference to. To give a simple example, during a horse racing fixture, one horse comes in first and another comes in

last. There cannot be two firsts in the same fixture, nor can they be two lasts in the same fixture should all horses cross the finishing line. Therefore it is concluded that there can only be one person who is referred to as the first and last in scripture. Before I explain from the scriptures, this is to help the Jehovah s Witnesses in their understanding. Jesus and the Father are separate persons, yet they are, act and rule as the same God, there is only one God. Therefore let me conclude from the scriptures who the first and the last is. Isaiah 48:12 (KJV) Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am He; I am the first, I also am the last. Throughout the book of Isaiah, God makes reference that He is the First and the Last therefore no one else can be titled as the first and the last, not a man, nor an angel, only God. Yet the bible makes reference to the Lord Jesus being the First and the Last. The Jehovah s Witnesses agree that the first and the last, the Father in their understanding, was not created and is from everlasting to everlasting. From scripture we can conclude who the first and the last is from the book of Revelation. Jesus stated that He was dead but now alive, He also stated that He is the first and the last thus indicating that He is God and was never created. Revelation 22:12-13 (KJV) And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. The Lord Jesus is the one who is coming quickly, He is the one who will reward everyman according to their work, and it is He who referring to Himself as the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. The Lord Jesus also concludes the above passage in verse sixteen by saying I Jesus indicating that this was the Lord Jesus who was speaking here. There is no doubt when reading the word of God, that the Lord Jesus Christ is God, separate but co-equal to His Father. It is God who is the Alpha and Omega, and the Lord Jesus who is God confirms this in the book of Revelation from His own words, thus indicating that He was never created and that He is from everlasting. Revelation 1:7-8 (KJV) Behold, He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. The Lord Jesus is the person who is referenced above, He was the one that was pierced for our iniquities and sins, He is the one who is coming back in the clouds, and it is He that every eye shall see. In verse eight, the Lord Jesus makes reference that He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending. Yet the Jehovah s Witnesses make claim that in their bible version of the above passage it states Jehovah, rather than Lord, showing to them it is referring to the Father, and not the Lord Jesus. Revelation 1:7-8 (NWT) Look! He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, and those who pierced him; and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief because of him. Yes, Amen. I am the Alʹpha and the O meʹga, says Jehovah God, the One who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty. Looking at the end of verse eight in the KJV, it concludes that the Lord Jesus is coming back. It is not Father that is coming back; as the New World Translation suggests. The Father never came the first time; therefore the above verse in the NWT is incorrect and false. Seeing as this is referring to the Lord Jesus in this passage, it further concludes that He is the Almighty one (Linking this with the previous chapter). Reading further down in this passage in Revelation you will begin to observe more clearer that the first and the last is referring to the Lord Jesus and not the Father only. Revelation 1:17-18 (KJV) And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. You will notice that the Lord Jesus stated above that He was dead but now is alive for evermore. The Father never died for our sins, it was the Lord Jesus Christ, and as the Lord

Is Jesus Christ an angel? When tackling the Jehovah s Witnesses on the subject of the Lord Jesus, they will state from their own teachings in the Watchtower that Jesus Christ is an angel. Specifically, they will claim that He is none other than the archangel Michael. Although there are no verses in the entire word of God which would reveal this, the Jehovah s Witnesses have been brainwashed into believing that Jesus and Michael are the same person and twist scriptures to fit their teaching on this. Other religious organisations such as the Seventh Day Adventists also stick close to this teaching and even take it a step further to explain that Michael is part of the Godhead. In the Watchtower Magazine, the Jehovah s Witnesses included an article explaining in their understanding who Jesus Christ is, without giving any supporting evidence from the scriptures of their claim. "Jesus is not God. Jesus is the first and highest of created beings. Jesus is an angel. He is the archangel Michael. Michael the great prince is none other than Jesus Christ himself." (The Watchtower, Dec 1984, p29) The Jehovah s Witnesses take their claims from their magazines as truth, giving them more authority than the word of God. In a recent publication written by the Watchtower, they concluded that there are several people in the Bible who are known by two separate names, which would give precedence for their teaching on this subject. At times, individuals are known by more than one name. For example, the patriarch Jacob is also known as Israel, and the apostle Peter, as Simon. (Genesis 49:1, 2; Matthew 10:2) Likewise, the Bible indicates that Michael is another name for Jesus Christ, before and after his life on earth. (What does the Bible really teach appendix) What they do not address is the fact that usually the people known by two different names were given a new name to distinguish them in some way either to show they now serve the Lord or as a sign of a covenant with God having been made. Usually after they are given the new name they are referred to only by that name from then onwards. The Lord Jesus was never referred to by any other person in scripture as Michael, either before or after He was on earth, which would make this an odd case. The Jehovah s Witnesses would point to one verse in the Bible to suggest that Jesus is Michael the archangel, this verse is found in 1 st Thessalonians. Before examining this verse, another quote from inside their publication What does the Bible really teach provides their understanding of the verse in Thessalonians. God s Word refers to Michael the archangel. (Jude 9) This term means chief angel. Notice that Michael is called the archangel. This suggests that there is only one such angel. In fact, the term archangel occurs in the Bible only in the singular, never in the plural. Moreover, Jesus is linked with the office of archangel. Regarding the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ, 1 Thessalonians 4:16 states: The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel s voice. Thus the voice of Jesus is described as being that of an archangel. This scripture therefore suggests that Jesus himself is the archangel Michael. (What does the Bible really teach appendix) The verse in Thessalonians reads: 1 st Thessalonians 4:16 (KJV) For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. The first thing to notice from the above verse is that the Watchtower have excluded and with the trump of God. The verse indicates that the Lord Jesus Himself shall descend, accompanied by the voice of the archangel and accompanied by the trump of God. Should the Lord Jesus Christ be Michael the archangel, the scripture would say with the voice of an archangel, therefore it is claiming that the archangel is a separate entity and shall make his voice heard alongside the return of the Lord Jesus in that glorious day to come. This verse is not indicating that Jesus and Michael are the same person. In the Bible, God separates His only begotten Son from the angels in heaven. We can read this in the book of Hebrews. Hebrews 1:4 (KJV) Being made so much better than the angels, as He hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. The above verse indicates that the Lord Jesus has a more excellent name than any of the angels that have been created. Hebrews 1:5 (KJV) For unto which of the angels said He at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to me a Son? God never once called any of His own angels His Son. This verse indicates that the Lord Jesus was never an angel, and therefore never chosen by God to be His Son. Hebrews 1:6 (KJV) And again, when He bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, He saith, And let all the angels of God worship Him. God instructs all of His angels to worship His Son. The Bible explains that we are forbidden to worship angels, which I will cover in the next chapter. This further explains that the Lord Jesus Christ is higher than the angels. He is not a chief angel where other angels are to bow to Him, but rather He is the Son of God and when He came to earth, He was God manifest in the flesh (1 st Timothy 3:16), and at His birth the angels appeared on the Bethlehem hillside in worship. Hebrews 1:7-8 (KJV) And of the angels He saith, Who maketh His angels spirits, and His ministers a flame of fire. But unto the Son He saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. The rhetorical questions end with the thought that none of the angels were worthy of these things, but the Son, not an angel, would reign forever more. The Father calls His own Son, God. God is three persons, the Father, the Word (Son) and the Holy Ghost and these three are one. They act as one God, they instruct as one God, and they rule as one God, yet they are three distinct different persons and here the Father refers to His only begotten Son as God. The Hebrew writer in the second chapter states clearly that the Lord Jesus never took on the nature of angels, yet rather the seed of Abraham.

Hebrews 2:16 (KJV) For verily He took not on Him the nature of angels; but He took on Him the seed of Abraham. Further proof from the scriptures indicates that Jesus Christ is not Michael the archangel by examining the role of angels and their authority. Hebrews 2:5 (KJV) For unto the angels hath He not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. The Hebrew writer explains that the angels have not been given power over the world to come, yet we can examine further in this chapter who has been given this place of authority. Hebrews 2:8 (KJV) Thou hast put all things in subjection under His feet. For in that He put all in subjection under Him, He left nothing that is not put under Him. But now we see not yet all things put under Him. The above verse speaks of the Lord Jesus Christ, who God has put all things in subjection under His feet. Had the Lord Jesus Christ been an angel as the Watchtower claim, then there would be a clear contradiction with these two verses which are almost side by side. The Apostle Peter explains in his first letter that angels are made subject unto the Lord Jesus Christ: 1 st Peter 3:21-22 (KJV).by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto Him. It is clear that the Apostle Peter differentiates the Lord Jesus from the angels in heaven and confirms that angels and authorities are made subject unto Him. If the Lord Jesus Christ was an angel, God would be going against His word and there would be multiple contradictions throughout these passages. Reading further in the book of Jude, it becomes even clearer that Michael and the Lord Jesus are separate persons. Jude 1:9 (KJV) Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. When Michael contended with the devil above, Michael could not bring a railing accusation to the Lord concerning him, yet rather he told the devil that the Lord instead would rebuke him. Angels have not been giving the authority to bring railing accusations to the Lord concerning false teachers or even Satan, and this is further backed up by the Apostle Peter. 2 nd Peter 2:11 (KJV) Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. Peter is referring to false teachers where again angels cannot bring a railing accusation to the Lord. However, should the Lord Jesus Christ be an angel, then He would not be able to give accuse these false teachers and Satan. It is clear when you read the gospels that the Lord Jesus Christ accused the Pharisees of being hypocrites and gave a railing accusation to Satan. John 8:44 (KJV) Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. There are multiple times within this verse where the Lord Jesus gives a railing accusation towards Satan; whereas if He had been an angel, He could never have accused in this way. There has been a lot of confusion on who the angel of the Lord is in scripture, some would go as far as to suggest that this is the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus, which Jehovah s Witnesses may agree with, again referring to Michael whom they believe is also Jesus. Some would say that the angel of the Lord was Jesus making an appearance as an angel; however there is no tangible proof of that from scripture. In-fact there is more evidence to point towards the angel of the Lord is a unique angel who stands before God, sometimes speaks for God, and makes an appearance with a message from God. First of all, there are many angels in heaven, some of which were also cast out of heaven and have become followers of Lucifer; however scripture shows that God Himself has His very own angel standing before Him. Exodus 23:20,23 (KJV) Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off. God instructed Moses that He would send His angel before him to keep him in the way and to bring him into the place which had been prepared. The words which the Lord used here are mine Angel thus indicating a singular angel belonging to God. From the book of Daniel, we can see from how Daniel explains his experience in the lion s den that he knew God has His very own angel. Daniel 6:22 (KJV) My God hath sent His angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before Him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. Daniel indicated that God sent His very own angel to shut the lion s mouth. This was no ordinary angel, but God s personal angel. In the New Testament, Peter knew that God had His very own angel, and when Peter was released from prison by this angel, we can see the expression Peter used after he was set free: Acts 12:11 (KJV) And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent His angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. Peter thanked God for sending His own angel to deliver him from the bonds of prison, expressing that it was His very angel, and no ordinary angel to deliver him. In the book of Revelation, we are told that God sent His very own angel to speak to His servants.

Revelation 22:6 (KJV) And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to shew unto His servants the things which must shortly be done. Had this been an ordinary angel, the scripture would be rendered as God sent an angel yet the scriptures announce that this angel was God s very own angel that He used. Further down the same chapter of Revelation, we see the Lord Jesus speaking and He announces something about this angel: Revelation 22:16 (KJV) I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. The Lord Jesus now explains that He has His very own angel. The same wording is found in Exodus when Moses heard from God I will send mine angel. As the Lord Jesus is God and equal to the Father, it is clear that God has His own angel whom He uses to speak on behalf of Himself on occasions throughout the Old and New Testament; including in the above verse, where the Lord Jesus sent His own angel to testify to the churches. One reason as to why people confuse the angel of the Lord to the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus is perhaps found in the book of Judges. This comes down to reading the scriptures from other translations which makes this teaching murky. The New World Translation has the same error in this verse, which people try to create a link indicating that this was the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus, when in actuality it is nothing of the sort. Notice the difference between the NWT and the KJV in the following verses when the angel of the Lord is speaking to Manoah, Samson s father. Judges 13:18 (KJV) And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret. Judges 13:18 (NWT) However, Jehovah s angel said to him: Why are you asking about my name, seeing that it is a wonderful one? Looking at the above verse in the New World Translation, some make the link of the wonderful name with Isaiah 9v6, which gives us one of the titles of the Lord Jesus. Isaiah 9:6 (KJV) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. The correct word used in Judges is secret, and not wonderful. The idea of the word is that the name is beyond human comprehension, whereas in Isaiah Wonderful is a given title of the Lord. They do not equate to the same thing. To claim that the link is accurate would therefore contradict the other scriptures which indicate that the Lord Jesus is not the angel of the Lord. Throughout the Old Testament, the angel of the Lord does not work autonomously from God, but rather works under God s authority and control; however when the Godhead is at work in scripture you will notice that they do work autonomously, albeit with the same aim. Let me explain. Genesis 19:24 (KJV) Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; In this passage, Sodom and Gomorrah are being destroyed by fire. In Genesis chapter 17 and 18, the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus spoke directly to Abraham (which I covered in the previous chapter of this book) who was bargaining with Him not to destroy the land. However come to Genesis 19 and God decides to destroy the land having not found the amount of righteous people Abraham had thought would be in the land. You will notice from Genesis 19 that there are two persons of the deity at work, the Lord on earth and the Lord in Heaven; and as Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed you will notice that they are both at work together, without one telling the other what to do. There are no differences in thought, word, or action between the two persons of the Godhead as Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed. In the book of Chronicles, an angel of the Lord was sent into Jerusalem to destroy it, however God had to control this angel s work and the angel had to obey the authority of the God: 1 st Chronicles 21:15 (KJV) And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the Lord beheld, and He repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the Lord stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. The angel of the Lord here had to obey and take order from God from Heaven there was no possibility of the angel disobeying orders and continuing to destroy Jerusalem on his own incentive. In Genesis, the Lord on earth (pre-incarnate Lord) worked autonomously with the Lord in Heaven. Had the Lord repented about destroying Sodom and Gomorrah, the Lord in Heaven with the Lord on earth would both have repented together they are of the same mind. The Lord in Heaven would never have to give authority to the Lord on earth to cease. The Bible tells us there is one Lord who is in three persons, each person is unique and different, yet they have the same mind as each other. Further more in scripture there is a time when the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus spoke directly to the angel of the Lord thus further making clear that they are not the same person. To better understand the context I first draw your attention to Isaiah, specifically to whom the Lord of hosts is: Isaiah 44:6 (KJV) Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and His redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. From this verse there are two persons of the Godhead speaking here, not just one, yet they speak as one; the Lord King of Israel and His redeemer the Lord of hosts. Notice also that God states He is the first and the last, which the Lord Jesus separately reveals later in scripture that He is the first and the last. We know from scripture that His redeemer is the Son of God, the Lord Jesus, and together they speak as one (see chapter on the trinity). In Zechariah we can see that the Lord of hosts speaks directly to the angel of the Lord. Zechariah 1:12-13 (KJV) Then the angel of the Lord answered and said, O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these

threescore and ten years? And the Lord answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words. There is a conversation above with two persons, the Lord of hosts and the angel of the Lord, both showing that they are separate distinct persons, with the angel of the Lord seeking instruction from the Lord of hosts. Going back to Exodus, we can see that the angel of the Lord was present in the burning bush before Moses; yet although the angel of the Lord was present, it was the voice of God which Moses heard either through the angel or from heaven. Exodus 3:2-6 (KJV) And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And He said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. Moreover He said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. There are Old and New Testament references to angels of the Lord, an angel of the Lord, and the angel of the Lord. It seems when the definite article the is used, it is specifying a unique being, separate from the other angels. The angel of the Lord speaks as God, identifies himself with God, and exercises the responsibilities of God. Like a special ambassador for God, but clearly is not God. In the New Testament, we can see that the angel of the Lord spoke to others about the Lord Jesus, not referring to himself, but rather another person. Matthew 2:13 (KJV) And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and His mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy Him. angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. This same angel, who was described as an angel of the Lord, describes his role in the heavens. Luke 1:19 (KJV) And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings. The angel not only reveals his name, but reveals that his role in the heavens is to stand in the presence of the Lord. Gabriel is described as an angel of the Lord, however when the Bible describes The angel of the Lord this angel would be the chief of all the angels, to whom I would point to Michael as that angel. Daniel 10:13 (KJV) But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. Michael is referred to as one of the chief princes which came to help Daniel. When looking at Michael s role in Revelation, you will notice that he has angels under his command. Revelation 12:7 (KJV) And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, As I have explained earlier on in this chapter, I provided evidence that the Lord Jesus is not Michael the archangel. Therefore in conclusion, the Bible seems to point towards the fact that the angels in heaven have different roles, and Michael perhaps being the chief of the angels with the conclusion of making him the angel of the Lord rather than the Lord Jesus. To make the assumption that the angel of the Lord is none other than the Lord Jesus; is to contradict the scriptures, especially in Hebrews when God states that He never once called any of His angels His Son. Whenever the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus made an appearance in person in the Old Testament, He always appeared as a person rather than an angel. Matthew 28:2-7 (KJV) And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead; and, behold, He goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see Him: lo, I have told you. You will notice above that as the angel of the Lord descends, the scripture confirms that this is an angel rather than the Lord because at the beginning of verse five it states And the angel answered. We can see a similar case in Luke s Gospel when Zacharias is visited by an angel of the Lord. Luke 1:11-13 (KJV) And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. But the

Can we worship the Lord Jesus? Prior to 1954, Jehovah's Witnesses worshipped Jesus Christ, a belief they held for over 60 years. These days, however, they believe that to do so is idolatry. In one of their earlier articles, the Watchtower said the following concerning worshipping Jesus: "We believe our Lord Jesus while on earth was really worshiped and properly so. It was proper for our Lord to receive worship in view of his having been the only begotten of the Father and his agent in the creation of all things, including man." Zions Watchtower 1898 Jul 15, P.216 This article, which was written over 100 years ago, indicates to their followers that it was appropriate to worship Jesus Christ. Moving forward in time by 40 years, the Watchtower still held the belief that it was appropriate to worship Jesus Christ: "Jehovah God commands all to worship Christ Jesus because Christ Jesus is the express image of his Father, Jehovah, and because he is the executive officer of Jehovah always carrying out Jehovah's purpose. Watchtower 1939 Nov 15 p.339 Their attitude has since changed. These days when you ask a Jehovah s Witness if you can worship Jesus, they will deny the possibility of doing so, changing the word worship to the word obeisance, stating that Jesus cannot be worshipped by anyone today. In this chapter, I am going to explain from the Bible firstly who we cannot worship, before moving onto the subject of whether we should worship the Lord Jesus. Should Christians worship man? Today many people will worship man - they will religiously follow pop idols, football stars, celebrities and then you get actual religions such as Catholicism where they worship the Pope, who again is just a man. In the case of Catholics, who hold to the belief that the Pope can be worshipped - they believe that Peter was the first Pope, and so therefore would be eligible for worship; however the Bible clearly contradicts this in the book of Acts: Acts 10:25-26 (KJV) And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man. When Cornelius was advised that Peter was coming to him to meet him, Cornelius waited expectantly for his arrival and when he saw Peter, he bowed down and worshipped him. Peter immediately rebuked him and told him to stand, as Peter was no god - no different from Cornelius in the sight of God - and therefore not to be worshipped. Had Peter seen himself as a Pope, or the single head of a church, as the Catholics believe, then Peter would have received worship and welcomed it, but he rebuked it. Furthermore in scripture we read of an occasion where the Apostle Paul, like Peter, received worship from men: Acts 14:11-15 (KJV) And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein: Paul was not only worshipped, the people wanted to treat him as one of their main pantheon of gods, and give sacrifices in his honour. Paul and Barnabas were so upset at their folly that they rent their clothes in distress, and warned them to stop worshipping them, and worship only the living God. It is evident in scripture that men are not to be worshipped, and indeed is clearly a form of idolatry. Moving onto other gods, it is clear that other gods are not to be worshipped even from the Ten Commandments we are told that we should not worship any other gods, which I am sure even the Jehovah s Witnesses will agree with. However, for the sake of illustration, let us look at a few scriptures showing that worshipping false gods or other gods condemned by God: Exodus 20:2-3 (KJV) I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. God makes it very clear; we are not to worship any other gods, which includes anything we would put in front of Him. He makes this clear in the next verse also: Exodus 34:14 (KJV) For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: As God is a Jealous God and desires that He alone is worshipped, He gives a warning to those who do not worship Him, or who would put anything else in front of Him: Deuteronomy 8:19 (KJV) And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish. In Acts 17, Paul came into Greece where he saw the Athenians worshipping false or even unknown gods, and commanded them to repent of such vain actions, and to come to the Lord Jesus. Many mocked Paul there however some believed and put away their false idols and gods and believed on Jesus. These verses show that other gods and idols are not to be worshipped, and God gives a warning against those who do. Lastly in this section, can we worship angels? The bible does make it clear that angels should not be worshipped.

John, the writer of the book of the Revelation, explained that he fell before an angel in worship, and was rebuked for doing so. We can find this in the nineteenth chapter: Revelation 19:10 (KJV) And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. We see here that John worshipped this angel and was told not to do so, as the angel was another servant of God and not worthy of worship; yet in John s forgetfulness he is found worshipping an angel again shortly afterwards, and the same rebuke is given to him. Revelation 22:8-9 (KJV) And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. Paul also made it clear in scripture that we are not to worship angels. He wrote to the church at Colossae the following : Colossians 2:18 (KJV) Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind. Paul explained to the church that no man should beguile or deceive others into worshipping angels, and that we should take care that we are not misled into doing so ourselves. The reason I have emphasised in this section who should not be worshipped is because the Jehovah s Witnesses believe that the Lord Jesus is a mighty god, just a man when he appeared in earth, and also Michael the Archangel. If this was correct, then there would be no way that Jesus could receive worship. However as you will read in other chapters, Jesus is not just a mighty god, He was more than just a man even while on the earth, and as my previous chapter explained, He is not an angel. Therefore does scripture explain that Jesus can be worshipped? Scripture gives example after example of when He received worship willingly: Matthew 2:2 & 11 (KJV) Saying, Where is He that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen His star in the east, and are come to worship Him. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshipped Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto Him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh. The wise men travelled a long way in their search for the child Jesus, and made clear their desire to worship Him. When they found Him they were obviously able to worship Him without hindrance. No where does the Bible indicate that anyone rebuked the wise men for their desires or actions, even though it may have appeared strange for these men to have come to far to worship a young child in such humble surroundings. John 9:35-38 (KJV) Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is He, Lord, that I might believe on Him? And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen Him, and it is He that talketh with thee. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped Him. In John 9, the blind man who had now been healed fell down and worshipped the Lord Jesus. The Lord, unlike Peter in Acts, never rebuked the healed man, and allowed the worship to continue. Matthew 28:16-17 (KJV) Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw Him, they worshipped Him: but some doubted. The Lord Jesus received worship not only from individuals, but received it from larger groups in this case from His disciples. Following on from this, He instructed them to preach the Gospel to every kingdom in the world, not the response of someone who felt they had wrongly received worship! He did not at any stage rebuke them for worshipping Him. Obviously the Bible makes it clear we can worship the Lord Jesus, but can we also pray to Him as well? The Bible points to the fact that is also acceptable. The account of Stephen, when he was being stoned, shows compelling evidence in one verse not only that he prayed to the Lord Jesus, but also shows the Lord Jesus deity: Acts 7:59 (KJV) And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. As Stephen was being stoned, he called upon GOD and said Lord Jesus - not only indicating the deity of the Lord Jesus, but also showing that he was calling upon a specific person in the Godhead for help. At the church in Corinth, Paul encouraged and taught those in Christ to call upon the Lord Jesus: 1 Corinthians 1:2 (KJV) Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: We are encouraged to call upon the Lord Jesus in every place, anywhere and at any time we are in need of help. Paul also explained to the Romans that salvation only comes through calling upon the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9,13 (KJV) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. There is only one person who can save us - the Saviour of the world, the Lord Jesus. Paul made it clear to the Romans that they were to call upon the Lord Jesus to be saved. The very last prayer in the Bible is directed to the Lord Jesus as well. We can read this in the book of Revelation:

Revelation 22:20 (KJV) He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Lastly, can we praise the Lord Jesus? Again if a Jehovah s Witness is asked this question, they will deny it and claim that only the Father can be praised, and none other. The Bible makes it clear again that Jesus can be praised along with being worshipped: Colossians 3:16-17 (KJV) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him. Paul taught those at Colossae that we can praise the Lord Jesus in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in our hearts towards Him. Paul also reminds the church at Philippi that we can rejoice in the Lord Jesus: Philippians 3:3 (KJV) For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Scripture makes it clear that we can worship and praise the Lord Jesus Christ, as He is neither just a man, nor an angel, but truly God, and so worthy and deserving of our praise and thanksgiving. He will never turn away the worship that is His due for all He has done on our behalf. What a fantastic Saviour we have - one who died for our sins, who paid the debt of our sins in full, and who provides us eternal life. It raises the question, why would we not want to worship someone who done all this for us? Is Jesus the God of creation? Jesus is NOT the Father, however He is equal to the Father, thus He is God as already proved in previous sections. This section will examine the God of creation from the account of Genesis and how that is relevant to Jesus as revealed in the New Testament. A series of verses are listed below, with the relevant phrase from each one repeated after. Genesis 1:1 (KJV) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. GOD Created. Genesis 1:3 (KJV) And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. GOD Said. Genesis 1:7 (KJV) And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. GOD Made. Genesis 1:17 (KJV) And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth. GOD Set. Genesis 1:22 (KJV) And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. GOD Blessed. Genesis 1:26 (KJV) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. GOD Said, Let US in OUR. In the final verse above, this was not God speaking to His angels, as we can tell from the following verse: Genesis 1:27 (KJV) So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.

GOD created in HIS own image, not the image of angels. When God said Let us, He didn t mean that He along with angels would create man in their image; as verse 27 makes it clear man was only in the image of God, and angels had nothing to do with the creation of man. Genesis 1:31 (KJV) And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. GOD saw. (Again emphasising it was what HE made, not what His angels made.) We can therefore unequivocally conclude that it was God alone who created all things from the account of Genesis, and not just the Father, but the full Godhead at work, hence the plurality of us and our. The New Testament makes it clear that the Godhead at work in creation includes the Lord Jesus: Colossians 1:16-17 (KJV) For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. Reading back in Colossians 1 makes it clear the Him is referring to Jesus (the dear Son of v13); and here we see it was He who created ALL things, He was BEFORE all things, and by Him all things exist and are upheld. The Lord Jesus created all things, and the bible goes further to announce that there was nothing made without Him: John 1:3 (KJV) All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. There was NOTHING made without Jesus, indicating that not only was He involved in the creation of everything, but shows His eternal state in that that He was never created, and has always been. He is the God of creation. Therefore can we say Jesus Christ is from everlasting? Micah 5:2 (KJV) But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. Jesus is the one who was sent to be born in Bethlehem - HE is from EVERLASTING. When Jesus revealed the revelation to John, he made it clear that He, the Lord JESUS, is coming back for His people, not the Father, and He is the Alpha & Omega, the First and the Last and He is the ALMIGHTY. When the Lord Jesus came to this earth, the bible confirms that He was God in the flesh: 1 Timothy 3:16 (KJV) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. We continue to see from comparing scripture in the Old Testament to the New Testament, that Jesus is the God of creation. Isaiah 40:25-27 (KJV) To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: He calleth them all by names by the greatness of His might, for that He is strong in power; not one faileth. The Holy One, who most would refer to as God, was the One who created all things, and calls all things by the greatness of His might. The scripture above also shows that God shares His equality with no one else (meaning the full Godhead is intact and they share with none other) In the New Testament, the Lord Jesus was explicitly referred to as the Holy One: Acts 3:14 (KJV) But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; Peter here was reminding the Jews that they had delivered Jesus to Pilate in return for Barabbas - they denied the Lord Jesus Christ who was indeed the Holy One, the Just, who had done nothing to deserve the death they wanted for Him. Looking further at the title of the Holy One, we can see the Psalms quoted elsewhere in the New Testament, making it clear that the Lord Jesus is the Holy One. Acts 13:35 (KJV) Wherefore he saith also in another Psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. The Jehovah s Witnesses claim that Jesus did not rise again from the dead - according to their teaching, they believe the Father disposed of His body; yet the Psalmist foretells that the Holy One did not see corruption, meaning His body was never corrupted or disposed of, but He in perfect purity rose again on the third day as the scriptures make clear elsewhere.

In conclusion from this section, scripture makes it more than clear that the Lord Jesus Christ is the God of creation, the Holy One, the Alpha and Omega, an eternal being; and that although He is separate from the Father, He is still God Almighty. The Trinity explained in diagram To understand the doctrine of the Trinity, I have created a video using a whiteboard to explain who the Lord Jesus is through the Trinity, showing from this video that the god of the Watchtower is false according to their own teachings and showing from the bible who God really is. For kindle users, you can view the video by pressing the following link on your screen: For those using hardback, you can view this video on your PCs on my website which is in the footer of this page. It is titled Trinity explained on Whiteboard for Jehovah s Witnesses.
