2 This prayer calendar is an aid to our asking in agreement and unity for our community of faith and our city community, on alternate days. You may join in fasting in any way you feel led or are able. All scriptures are from the English Standard Version (ESV). Praying for Christ Our Shepherd Church We will be following the example of Jesus: "As Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word." Ephesians 5:21, 25, 26 Praying for Washington, D.C. We will focus on various aspects of city life so that we may "... seek the welfare of the city where (God has) sent you... pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare." Jeremiah 29:7

3 Monday, January 12 COSC Worship When all the people of Israel saw the fire come down and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. 2 Chronicles 7:3 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness. Psalm 29:2 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4:23, 24 Tuesday, January 13 CITY City Government First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1Timothy 2:1-4 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God... For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Romans 13:1-3 Wednesday January 14 COSC Teaching May my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, like gentle rain upon the tender grass. Proverbs 7:2 Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 1:9 Thursday, January 15 CITY Law Enforcement Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. Psalm 127:1 In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8 Give to (the wicked) according to their work and according to the evil of their deeds give to them according to the work of their hands. Psalm 28:4 Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. Proverbs 11:14 Friday, January 16 COSC Homegroups And they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles... and

4 they were day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-47 Saturday, January 17 CITY Schools/Education Wisdom is good with an inheritance... and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it. Ecclesiastes 7:11-12 Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:5, 7 Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding. Proverbs 23:23 Sunday, January 18 COSC Children's Education You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul... You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. Deuteronomy 18:9-11 And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. Malachi 2:15 Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Psalm 34:11 Jesus said, Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 19:14 Monday, January 19 CITY Churches So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and they increased in numbers daily. Acts 16:5 We have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:9-10 I therefore... urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit. Ephesians 4:1-3 Tuesday, January 20 COSC Men's Ministry Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness... Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. Titus 2: 2, 6-8

5 Wednesday, January 21 CITY Health Care/Hospitals For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, You sit here in a good place, while you say to the poor man, You stand over there, or, Sit down at my feet, have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? For God shows no partiality. James: 2:2-4, Romans 2:11 Thursday, January 22 COSC Women's Ministry Walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace... equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature (womanhood) to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ... speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. Ephesians 4:1-16 Friday, January 23 CITY Elderly Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent. O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again. You will increase my greatness and comfort me again Acts 2:17. Psalm 71:9, 12, 20, 21 And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh... your old men shall dream dreams. Saturday, January 24 COSC Office Staff & Management Team Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.... But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. James 3: 13, Love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34-35 Sunday, January 25 CITY Judicial System You shall appoint judges and officers in all your towns... they shall judge the people with righteous judgment. You shall not pervert justice. You shall not

6 show partiality, and you shall not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the cause of the righteous. Justice, and only justice, you shall follow, that you may live and inherit the land that the Lord your God is giving you. Deuteronomy 16:18-20 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Amos 5:24 Monday, January 26 COSC Healing prayer And (Jesus) called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them. Mark 6:7, 13 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:14-16 Tuesday, January 27 CITY Racial Reconciliation For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. Ephesians 2:14-16 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 1Corinthians 5:18-19 Wednesday, January 28 COSC Care Company For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me. Matthew 25:36,40 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:39 If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be. 7 Thursday, January 29 CITY Next Generation See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. Matthew 18:10 To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth. Proverbs 1:2-4 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. Proverbs 1:10 Friday, January 30 COSC The Antioch Group Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him! Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth; yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, The Lord reigns! 1 Chronicles 16:29-31 And he said to them, The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Luke 2:10 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations. Matthew 28:19 Saturday, January 31 CITY The Disadvantaged & Underserved O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more. Psalm 10:17-18 He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing. Deuteronomy 10:18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten, and the hope of the poor shall not perish forever. Arise, O Lord! Let not man prevail. Psalm 9:18-19 Sunday, February 1 COSC Evangelism/Witness But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses. Acts 1:8 The Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 2:47 These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also... saying that there is another king, Jesus. Acts 17:6-7 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20 Monday, February 2 CITY Households But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. Jeremiah 27:9 Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick in it and say to them, The kingdom of God has come near

Luke 10:8-9 And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in. Isaiah 58:12 Tuesday, February 3 COSC Corporate Gatherings/ Sunday Services Be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Ephesians 5:18-21 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10: Wednesday, February 4 CITY Righteousness & Anti-corruption For the Lord is righteous; He loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold His face. Psalm 11:6-7 So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 1 Peter 2:1 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. Proverbs 14:34 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 1 John 3:4-5 Thursday, February 5 COSC Pastors and Elders The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. 1Timothy 3:1 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:5 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith....obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. Hebrews 13:7,17 Friday February 6 CITY City Finances But all things should be done decently and in order. 1 Corinthians 14:40 Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. Luke 12:15 You are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. Malachi 3:9-10

Psalm 110:3 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12 O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. Isaiah 56:6-7 Monday, February 9 COSC Building Now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you, O Lord God, have spoken, and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever. 2 Samuel 7:29 Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of the Lord my God and dedicate it to him. 2 Chronicles 2:4, 8 We prayed to our God and set a guard as a protection against them day and night. Nehemiah 4:9 Tuesday, February 10 CITY Business/Market Place A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight. Proverbs 11:1 A just balance and scales are the Lord's; all the weights in the bag are his work. Proverbs 16:11 You shall not steal. Exodus 20:15 Break off your sins by practicing righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, that there may perhaps be a lengthening of your prosperity. Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
