4 ption #1 MAKE ME GLAD What you need: nothing Group Activity Time provides an active learning experience to review lesson concepts. What you do: Have the children sit in a group around the leader. They will respond to the scenarios presented to them with a happy face or a sad face. Make up scenarios that involve what a parent might do when her child obeys or disobeys her. (Example: What kind of face would your mommy make if you messed up the bathroom with toothpaste when she told you not to touch it? What kind of face would your daddy make if he asked you to throw away your trash and you did?) What you say: Today in our story we learned about Jesus going to the temple. When Mary and Joseph came to get him, he obeyed and left, even though he probably wanted to stay longer. Do you think it makes your mom or dad happy when you obey? Can you obey your parents today just like Jesus did? The teacher will say something a parent would tell a child to do around the house. Before they answer, the children will slap their legs twice and say, okay while making the okay sign with their fingers (touching the index finger to the thumb). Examples: Daddy says, Pick up your toys. You say, kay! Mommy says, Eat all of your vegetables. You say, kay! etc. What you say: Today in our story we learned about Jesus going to the temple. Can you obey your parents today just like Jesus did? ption #3 MTHER, MAY I? What you need: nothing What you do: Line the children up facing you about 10 feet away. Give commands to the children one at a time. For example, "Anna, you may take one step forward." Wait for the child to respond with the words, "Mother, may I?" The teacher will answer either, "Yes, you may" or "No, you may not." Continue giving commands to the players in any order that you choose. After the Feast was over, his parents left to go back home. The boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But they were not aware of it. They thought he was somewhere in their group. So they traveled on for a day. Remember Verse: Ephesians 5:1 You are God s children whom he loves, so be like him. Can you find Lil, K? Practice the remember verse with your Mom or Dad. Make up hand motions to go along with it. Find the hidden o s in the picture. (There are 10 of them.) Then they began to look for him among their relatives and friends. They did not find him. So they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courtyard. He was sitting with the teachers. He was listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at how much he understood. They also were amazed at his answers. When his parents saw him, they were amazed. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been worried about you. We have been looking for you everywhere." "Why were you looking for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?" But they did not understand what he meant by that. Then he went back to Nazareth with them, and he obeyed them. But his mother kept all these things like a secret treasure in her heart. Jesus became wiser and stronger. He also became more and more pleasing to God and to people. Jesus obeyed his mom and dad.
