1 st Quarter 2015 Adventurers with Jesus Online Activities Lesson 1 True or False: Write the letter T if the statement is true and F if the statement is false. 1. Jesus often prayed in solitude. 2. Jesus began His prayer (known as the Lord s Prayer) by asking for forgiveness. 3. We do not need to ask God for forgiveness. 4. If we resist the devil, he will flee from us. 5. God will give us what we ask for if it aligns with His will. Net Check: Jesus Prayers Jesus often left the crowds and His Disciples to pray in solitude. He also often prayed in nature, such as on a mountain or in a garden (see Matt. 14:23; 26:36). Jesus taught us to pray continually and in faith. We should pray in the ways that Jesus taught us. In this week s lesson, Jesus taught His Disciples how to pray by providing an example of prayer. The Lord s Prayer is not the only prayer of Jesus that is recorded in the Bible, but it is important because it shows us how to relate to the Father. In His prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, we learn a really important aspect of prayer. Jesus prayed, My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will (Matt. 26:39, NIV). In our relationship with the Father, we may ask to have our way, but we should respond in obedience no matter what journey God gives us. God will not give us everything we want, but He will use every experience to make us more like Him. Lesson 2 Multiple Choice: Circle the correct answer. 1. Who would be responsible for sharing the Gospel with the world? a. Only Peter and John b. Judas c. The Disciples (excluding Judas)

2. Which of the following statements is incorrect? a. Jesus prayed for Himself and His Disciples. b. Jesus knew that the Disciples would have an easy life. c. Jesus prayed that the Disciples would remain faithful to God. 3. What must unite believers? a. Love b. Persecution c. Happiness 4. Jesus said, Sanctify them in the truth; your word is (John 17:17, NRSV). a. perfect b. truth c. forever 5. Jesus asked the Father to protect His Disciples so that. a. they would know God well. b. they would be powerful. c. they would be one, just as Jesus and God are one. Net Check: Gethsemane Gethsemane was a garden located by the Mount of Olives where Jesus and His Disciples often prayed. Gethsemane is of Aramaic origin that means an oil press. Here, Jesus prayed fervently before His arrest. He prayed, Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet, not my will but yours be done (Luke 22:42, NRSV). Following His prayer, Judas Iscariot led a group, including Roman soldiers, to Jesus. He betrayed Jesus with a kiss, and then Jesus was arrested. Lesson 3 Fill in the Blank 1. In Israel, the high priest was the only one who could enter the of. 2. The name means king of righteousness. 3. Because Jesus is, He is able to be our source for eternal salvation.

4. Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he (Hebrews 5:8, NRSV). 5. Jesus is our Priest. Net Check: Melchizedek Melchizedek is an important figure in the Bible because he was both king and priest, just as Jesus is. He is first mentioned in the Bible in Genesis 14. Abram s nephew, Lot, had been captured, but Abram led his trained men in pursuit of Lot s captors and overcame them. After this mighty victory, King Melchizedek of Salem brought bread and wine to Abram and blessed him. He said, Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand! (Gen. 14:19 20, NRSV). Abram then gave Melchizedek one-tenth of everything he had gained from his victory. Melchizedek is also mentioned in Psalm 110, a psalm of David. David prophesied that Jesus would not only be a king but would also be a priest, according to the order of Melchizedek (Ps. 110:4, NRSV). Lesson 4 Short Answer 1. What did Mary do when the angel gave her great news? 2. What should we do when we are sick?

3. What did Elijah pray for? 4. How often should we pray? 5. Why is prayer important? Net Check: Elijah Elijah was a prophet of God known for his incredible faith. First Kings records several of these faithful moments in Elijah s life. Through the power of God, Elijah predicted a drought; provided food for a widow and her son; revived the widow s son; and, most famously, called fire down from heaven, proving that God is the only true God and that the pagan god Baal was not a living god. Lesson 5 True or False: Write the letter T if the statement is true and F if the statement is false. 1. King Nebuchadnezzar brought some of the Jews into his court. 2. King Nebuchadnezzar wanted to honor God, so he asked the Jews to eat only vegetables. 3. The Jews who ate only vegetables were healthier than all the others. 4. We should fast publicly so that other people will see that we are devoted to God. 5. God rewards those who fast in secret.

Net Check: Daniel s Three Friends Daniel and his three friends honored God by refusing to eat the king s food. These three friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, are also found in Daniel 3. King Nebuchadnezzar made a large golden statue, and he commanded all the people to worship the golden image. Those who refused to worship the statue would be thrown into a furnace. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego knew that worshiping any image is sinful; God is the only One worthy of worship. When they refused to bow down, King Nebuchadnezzar was furious and said to them, If you do not worship, you shall immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire, and who is the god that will deliver you out of my hands? (Dan. 3:15, NRSV). Then the three men responded in incredible faith. They said, If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up (vv , NIV). The king then ordered that the men be thrown into the furnace. But God saved them He did not allow the flames to harm them. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego s lives were marked by unwavering faith, no matter what consequences they endured. May we live in a similar manner. Lesson 6 Multiple Choice: Circle the correct answer. 1. In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, where was the man traveling to? a. Jerusalem b. Jericho c. Samaria 2. Who was willing to help the wounded man on the road? a. A priest b. A Levite c. A Samaritan 3. Which of the following is a true statement? a. The Levite bandaged the man s wounds. b. The Samaritan paid an innkeeper to take care of the man. c. The Samaritan brought the man into his own home. 4. What did the parable teach? a. We should show mercy to one another.

b. We should go to church regularly. c. We should strictly follow purity laws, no matter what. 5. Jesus said, You shall love the Lord your God will all your, and with all your, and with all your, and with all your ; and your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27, NRSV). a. strength; mind; soul; heart b. mind; soul, strength; heart c. heart; soul; strength; mind Net Check: Son of Man The title Son of Man comes from the book of Daniel. Daniel prophesied, In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed (Dan. 7:13 14, NIV). Thus, this is a title for the Messiah. Jesus often called Himself the Son of Man. In Matthew 9, Jesus healed a paralytic by forgiving his sins. When people questioned Jesus authority to forgive sins, Jesus said, So that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins he then said to the paralytic Stand up, take your bed and go to your home. And he stood up and went to his home (vv. 6 7, NRSV). The Jews were familiar with Daniel s prophecies and would have recognized this messianic title. Many were filled with awe, and they glorified God (v. 8, NRSV). Lesson 7 Fill in the Blank 1. On the Day of Judgment, people will be separated into two groups, just like a shepherd would separate and sheep in ancient times. 2. Those who will enter heaven had given Jesus when He was hungry. 3. When someone is in prison, we should him or her.

4. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into fire, prepared for the devil and his angels (Matt. 25:41, KJV). 5. Righteous people will gain eternal. Net Check: Eternal Life Before His arrest, Jesus prayed for His Disciples. In this prayer, Jesus explained what eternal life is. He said, Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all people, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent (John 17:1 3, NRSV). When we think of eternal life, we often think of the glory of heaven. Heaven is beautiful; it is a place where there are no tears or sadness. It is described as having pearly gates, streets of gold, and walls of fine jewels (see Rev. 21). But this is not the glory of eternal life that we long for. The glory of knowing God is immeasurable. While we will only know Him in part on earth, we should read His Word and continue in prayer so that we may know Him well today. Lesson 8 Short Answer 1. Why should we wear the whole armor of God? 2. What does it mean to wear the belt of truth?

3. What does it mean to be righteous? 4. What does the shield of faith protect us from? 5. What is the sword of the Spirit? Net Check: Ephesus The city of Ephesus was famous for the temple of Artemis, which was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Artemis was the ancient Greek goddess of hunting and wilderness, among other things. Thus, Ephesus was a center of pagan worship. But the Apostle Paul began a church in Ephesus, and many came to know the Lord. Some of the Ephesians did not want people to believe in Christ. One man, Demetrius, was a silversmith who made shrines of Artemis that the people bought in order to worship her. Paul taught the people that no manmade image is a god. Christ alone is worthy of worship. Demetrius business was hindered because of Paul s message, and he was furious and caused a riot among the people, who yelled in unison, Great is Artemis of the Ephesians! (Acts 19:34, NRSV). Even still, Christianity spread throughout the city. Lesson 9 True or False: Write the letter T if the statement is true and F if the statement is false. 1. John the Baptist wore clothing made of horse s hair.

2. John ate locusts and wild honey. 3. John proclaimed that Jesus is the Lamb of God. 4. John baptized with the Holy Spirit. 5. The Holy Spirit helps us tell others about Christ. Net Check: Jesus Titles In today s lesson, we learned that Jesus is called the Lamb of God, but this is just one of many Jesus titles. Before Jesus birth, an angel said that Jesus would be called Emmanuel (see Matt. 1:23). This title means God with us. Jesus is commonly called Christ or Messiah, which both mean anointed. He is also called the Light of the world, Son of Man, Son of God, Messiah, and Savior. He is named the Alpha and Omega, which are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet (see Rev. 22:13). This title means that Jesus is the beginning and end. While this is not an exhaustive list, these titles show the divinity of Jesus. Lesson 10 Multiple Choice: Circle the correct answer. 1. Whom did Jesus send to the Disciples after He returned to heaven? a. Paul b. The Father c. The Holy Spirit 2. The Holy Spirit brings to Christians who are in need of encouragement. a. power b. comfort c. logic 3. Which of Jesus Disciples asked, Lord how is it that you will reveal yourself to us, and not to the world? (John 14:22, NRSV). a. Judas (not Iscariot) b. Peter c. Judas Iscariot 4. Which of the following statements is not true? a. The Holy Spirit helps believers live for God.

b. The Holy Spirit shows believers when they have sinned and need to repent. c. The Holy Spirit lived inside the Disciples only. 5. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you (John 14:26, NRSV). a. the Father b. the Son c. the heavenly hosts Net Check: Holy Spirit The Trinity is manifested as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Although each part of the Trinity plays a different role, each is fully God. The Holy Spirit is a vital part of the Christian life. He helps us know right from wrong, helps us to obey and love others, and helps us testify to the truth. Jesus taught the crowds just how important the Holy Spirit is: People will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come (Matt. 12:31 32, NRSV). This means that those who permanently reject Christ will not be forgiven. Those who do not accept Christ, and therefore do not have the Holy Spirit within them, will not enter into heaven. Lesson 11 Fill in the Blank 1. The is the Holy Spirit, who lives inside of every believer. 2. Christians should be learning to love God and to one another. 3. God s Kingdom is full of. 4. It is impossible to be righteous without. 5. Through prayer and study, believers open themselves to hear what the Holy Spirit will say.

Net Check: Righteousness Righteousness comes from the Hebrew word tsĕdaqah, which refers to doing what is right or acts of justice. As Christians, we are sometimes confused about our righteousness. Do we have to do everything right all the time for God to consider us righteous? We find an answer when we look at the life of Abraham. God promised to make Abraham s descendants into a great nation. Abraham did not yet have children, and his wife was barren. Abraham thought that a slave born in his house might be considered his heir, but God told Abraham to look toward the heavens. He said that Abraham s descendants would be like the innumerable stars in the sky. Abraham believed the Lord, and the LORD reckoned it to him as righteousness (Gen. 15:6, NRSV). Our belief in God and His Word is what counts toward righteousness. And when we believe, we will respond in obedience. Lesson 12 Short Answer 1. What did Judas Iscariot receive for betraying Jesus? 2. What did the Roman soldiers do during Jesus crucifixion? 3. Why were the Disciples hiding after Jesus death?

4. Why did Jesus show His scars to the Disciples? 5. What is today s key verse? Net Check: Jesus Scars When Jesus was crucified, He was nailed to a wooden cross. Nails pierced His hands and feet. When the soldiers went to remove Jesus body from the cross, they saw that He was already dead. So one soldier pierced his side with a spear, and at once blood and water came out (John 19:34, NRSV). These wounds are important because they fulfilled Old Testament prophecies. Isaiah 53:5 reads, But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities (NRSV). And after Jesus rose from the grave, He showed His Disciples these scars to prove that, though He had died, He lives. Lesson 13 True or False: Write the letter T if the statement is true and F if the statement is false. 1. Jesus sent two Disciples to find a colt that had never been ridden. 2. Jesus entrance into Jerusalem on the colt is known as the Glorious Entrance. 3. The prophet Zechariah prophesied that Jesus would ride on a donkey. 4. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, the people shouted, Hosanna! 5. After His entrance into Jerusalem, Jesus and the Disciples traveled to Damascus. Net Check: Hosanna

During the Triumphal Entry, the people shouted Hosanna! as Jesus rode into Jerusalem. This is a Hebrew term, which means Save, I pray. This word is used in rejoicing or to express adoration. Not every person in the crowd believed that Jesus is the Messiah. Some hoped that Jesus would reign as an earthly king and help the Jews become a powerful nation again, apart from Rome. As Christians, we know that Jesus is our everlasting Savior, and we, too, should praise Him. Lesson 1 Answers: 1. T; 2. F; 3. F; 4. T; 5.
