1 40 Days of Prayer Campaign: How To Pray A Breakthrough Prayer Pastor Alton Trimble Sunday, November 19, 2017 MARK 11:24 Jesus: Anytime you ask for anything in prayer, believe that you HAVE received it, and you WILL receive it. 2 CHRONICLES 20:1-5 After this, three enemy nations united to attack King Jehoshaphat. Spies told him, A huge combined army is marching to Jerusalem right now to defeat you! Scared and worried, King Jehoshaphat RESOLVED TO SEEK THE LORD, and he announced a nationwide fast. So everyone came together to fast and pray and seek help from God. When they all got to the Temple in Jerusalem, the king stood up and prayed aloud. 1 st He prayed privately. He resolved to seek the Lord 2 nd He enlisted others to pray. Got everyone involved seeking. 3 rd He prayed publicly: He stood up and prayed ALOUD. 1. START BY FOCUSING ON GOD, NOT MY PROBLEM. REMIND MYSELF OF GOD S GREATNESS. JEREMIAH 10:6 Inasmuch as there is none like You, O LORD (You are great, and Your name is great in might). ISAIAH 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. I CHRONICLES 29:11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head over all. PSALM 145:1-21 God is all-powerful. Nothing is too hard for Him! With God all things are possible VERSE 6 O Lord, ARE YOU NOT the God who is in heaven? You rule over every kingdom and nation. You are so powerful and mighty that nothing and no one can defeat you! PSALM 62:11 God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: that power belongs to God.

2 REMIND MYSELF OF HIS UNLIMITED POWER. VERSE 7a And God, DID YOU NOT drive out those who tried to keep ups from living here when you brought us back home? PSALM 79:11 Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You; according to the greatness of Your power preserve those who are appointed to die. I CORINTHIANS 6:14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power. MATTHEW 19:26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. REMIND GOD OF HIS PROMISES! VERSE 7b And DID YOU NOT give this promised land to your friend Abraham s descendants to be theirs forever? DIVINE PROMISES a. Brighter Days PSALM 30:5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. b. Deliverance PSALM 34:19-20 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. He guards all his bones; not one of them is broken. c. Divine Care in sickness PSALM 41:3 The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed. PSALM 50:15 Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. PSALM 138:7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me. d. Comfort of God s Presence ISAIAH 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. 2 P a g e

3 e. An Eternal Home JOHN 14:1-2 Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. f. All things work to the Believer s Good. ROMANS 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. g. Sufficiency of divine grace 1 PETER 4:12-13 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. h. Final Deliverance From Sorrow and Pain REVELATION 21:4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. i. Unlimited blessing MARK 9:23 Jesus said to him, If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes. j. Answer to prayer MARK 11:24 Jesus said to him, If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes. k. Removal of obstacles LUKE 17:6 So the Lord said, If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea, and it would obey you. FINALLY, ASK GOD FOR A BREAKTHROUGH! VERSE 10-12a Our enemies want to destroy us. WILL YOU NOT stop them from defeating us? 3 P a g e

4 2. TELL GOD: I CAN T DO THIS. I NEED YOU TO DO THIS! VERSE 12 We are powerless against this mighty army that is coming to attack us AND we don t know what to do BUT we are looking to you for help. VERSE 13 Then, all the men of Judah stood before the Lord, with waiting with their wives and young children and even babies. 3. LISTEN TO WHAT GOD SAYS. VERSES This is what the Lord says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's!...You won't need to fight in this battle! Just take up your position and stand strong! Then just wait and watch, and you will see the Lord deliver you! Again, do not be afraid or get discouraged, because the Lord is with you! Then the King and everyone else all bowed down on the ground and worshiped God! When you pray for a breakthrough as these people did, God is going tell you the same four (4) things He told them! A. RELAX! DON T BE AFRAID OR DISCOURAGED! This is what the Lord says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army B. IT S MY BATTLE & I LL HANDLE IT! VERSE 15 For the battle is not yours, but God's! C. KEEP SERVING IN YOUR POSITION. Just take up your position and stand strong! D. WAIT & WATCH WHAT GOD DOES! VERSE 17, 20 You won't need to fight in this battle! Just take up your position and stand strong! Then just wait and watch, and you will see the Lord deliver you! Again, do not be afraid or get discouraged, because the Lord is with you! Then the King and everyone else all bowed down on the ground and worshiped God! Put your faith in God and you ll be able to stand firm. Have faith in his prophets, and you ll succeed." 4. THANK GOD IN ADVANCE FOR THE ANSWER. VERSE 21 Then the king appointed musicians and singers in robes to march in front of the army and loudly praise and thank the Lord! This is what they sang: We thank God! 5 VERSE 22 AT THE MOMENT THEY BEGAN TO SING and to praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to begin fighting among themselves, and they destroyed each other! 5. EXPECT GOD TO TURN BATTLES INTO BLESSINGS. Results: VERSE When the army of Judah finally arrived at the battleground, the valley was covered with dead bodies for as far as they could see. No one had survived. So they went out to gather the plunder and they found huge amounts of equipment, clothing, and other valuables more than they could carry back! In fact, there was so much loot it took three days to collect it all! On the fourth day, they gathered for a worship service in that valley, which they named The Valley of Beracah because the people had thanked and praised God there. 1. More blessing than you can handle! 2. It makes you want to worship God more. VERSE 27 Then, Jehoshaphat led his troops back to Jerusalem where they joyfully celebrated the great victory God had GIVEN to them. 3. Unbelievers around you take notice. VERSE When the nations surrounding Israel heard how God had fought and defeated the enemies of his people, those nations were all afraid to attack, so Jehoshaphat enjoyed peace and security for the rest of his reign as king. 5 P a g e
