Instead of on their housetops, Isaiah knew it was not a time to rejoice, but a time to over the city The two armies, and would advance on Jerusalem and set themselves against the gates of the city In all their defensive preparations, they to trust in who would defend them against the attack of any enemy. 144., possibly a foreigner over the king s palace in Jerusalem, had probably said that the Egyptians would defeat the and all would be well. worthless and incompetent and cause his to fall because of their sin. Chapter King, who was contemporary with King Solomon, made one of the best port cities of all Palestine When the conquered the territory to the east of the coastal city of Tyre, then the could no longer come to buy good from Tyre The of this prophecy came about in a manner by which the people would not perceive that it was the work of God among the 152. The fall of Tyre and was collateral judgment When God shakes the nations, it is for the of bringing His people into dwelling The, the Babylonian Empire, had its seed beginnings with the Assyrians, but was conquered by the 156. After a figurative number of 70 years, would be restored as a commercial port. He opens and no one, and no one opens The heritage of would become 158. The Bible student is challenged to the literal basis from which the were drawn The Bible student cannot be over to attach speculative interpretations to the symbols and metaphors and allow their present to be their foundation Whenever there is a national, it touches all and there are refugees Man brings upon himself his own calamity and he reaps what he, and thus brings destruction to society when he

162. There is hope in the midst of a prophetic picture in that a remnant will come back to Jerusalem from the out of captivity The contrast of the city to the strong city is the identity of it has and that it will be brought down by God if it is not conquered in one s life When those in a society turn on themselves, taking of others, they will be dealt with 164. In the end, God will not only bring the wicked kings of this world into the judgment of, but also Satan and his angels, although in the context it may be that Isaiah was referring to the gods that the people created. Chapter In this first song of, Isaiah exalts God for keeping His that He established with His people God is able to bring down the, and for this reason, the enemy must and fear Him The second song is of a celebrating with God the given to His people at the end of a great turmoil 168. It is a of deliverance from the environment wherein the of sin brought persecution to the people of God The third song celebrates the fact that has brought its reward, and victory generates 170. The and haughty have been overcome, and the rejoice God works for those who have a to be His people and glorify Him by their 176. Since God s judgments come with and mercy, then those of this world who are mistreated do not take on those who persecute them Because of their to other gods, God delivered them over to those who brought no peace; only by trusting in God is there peace of mind The and increase of the remnant of Israel was a manifestation that God was working to the seedline of Abraham Nationally, Israel cried out for deliverance from in order that they might enjoy the protection and they once had in the land of promise. Chapter The metaphors picture Assyria, Babylon and who had held God s people and God has kept His holy people and protected throughout the centuries God was the eternal who watered His vineyard, consumed the briers and thorns in order that take root and bud forth throughout the world God s punishment of His people for their apostasy was tempered with, for He disciplined them with Chapter A strong city referrers to the protection that God provides for the city of 183. Because the people of God did not bow down in to the loving chastisement of God, they reaped the same punishment that God rendered to the nations The openness is the great that the people come into the of God, God s city that is on earth for all men Those who would return from the captivity would be the ones, for God would out the grain from the chaff One cannot have the that God offers if the focus of his life is split between the security of the possessions of this and trust in God By preserving the of Israel until the coming of the Messiah it would be affirmed that God had fulfilled His to the fathers.

Chapter This denunciation is delivered against the kingdom, with Ephraim, the principle tribal group, representing all tribes The Assyrians, the mighty and one, was the nation chosen to bring upon the northern kingdom The leaders of Judah were also of social degradation with rulers and religious leaders The leaders were arrogant and the exhortations of Isaiah, thinking themselves morally free from the of the moral law that Isaiah proclaimed Because of their apostasy, the time would come when they would not listen to the of God, but they would have to listen to the commands of their 191. Making with foreign nations could not save them, for it was actually bargaining with If they in God, and maintained the laws of the that He had made with them, then they would have a sure foundation upon which to stand Their lack of trust in God, scoffed at His with them, thus their bondage to those nations with whom they made alliances This parable of the actions of farming God s purpose and measure of chastisement upon Israel, which at this time was ripe for Chapter Only the, true prophet of God could prophesy what was to come, for these false prophets could not read the of the times Their preachers and seers proclaimed to be able to foretell the future, but what would happen would identify them to be who preached only for gain Because their were far from God, they preached the of men The leaders presumed that they could their counsel from God, as they had created gods in their thinking from which they could themselves Because of the pruning, the nation would once again be and would be of the ruthless people among them Once they have been, they would then appreciate their with God and would better understand that as a nation of people, God had greater things for them in the future. Chapter Instead of trusting in God, Judah went to Egypt in order to form an against the Assyrians, and because they did not God in this matter, they added sin to sin with a covering meant to make a treaty or alliance and meant a cover of protection Judah had their trust in God to deliver them, thus they were and would not listen to the word that Isaiah was saying The leadership of the northern kingdom led the people into alliances and degradation Those who Isaiah said that they would trust in Egypt s swift horses in order to flee, but Isaiah replied that their enemies would ride on horses Concerning the of Jerusalem, though they are used to bring judgment on Jerusalem, they will be away as dust God will be heard by His students because they will have been of their dull hearing and will be because they will listen Those who should have been preaching to the people that which was to come were and the people to whom they preached were also 209. Chapter The historical background of this chapter is possibly when was sent from to Sennacherib The leaders thought they were seeking help from Egypt, but what would transpire would be that both the Egyptians and Judah would fall in order to manifest the of God God called on the leaders of Judah to turn from their efforts of trusting in themselves and Egypt Sennacherib dealt with the leaders of Jerusalem and his time was coming to the judgment of God Isaiah s prayer is that God be, for when God is stirred, the nations flee, since the treasure of Zion is 214. The prophecy was that the Assyrians would not in battle between armies, for God took them out, but the remnant of the army would as from a battle Hezekiah s ambassadors that he sent to Sennacherib were treacherously by the Assyrian king and he did not his commitment to the agreement that was made Sennacherib, king of Assyria in his though he could take Chapter Isaiah wanted to remind the of what it was like in the land before they allowed sin to change their 217. The of the new citizens, under the kingship of, will be changed After Hezekiah and his officials had exhausted all their to negotiate peace, it was time for to take action It was a time when the in Jerusalem would be spared because they were in the company of the righteous, who dealt with others Those who had counted out tribute to the Assyrians had failed as those who on their defense by counting on the of the wall Because they have the will of the Lord, they will be able to discern the character of others according to the of the Lord God took care of the and the people were delivered from having to listen to commands from those who spoke a language In view of the impending danger, it seems that the of Jerusalem were caught up in the of their material living It seems that Isaiah s statement about the Spirit being poured out corresponds with what Peter quoted Joel 28 in (book and chapter) The restoration is not a restoration of crops, but a restoration known as the church of the God Though God would continue to bring judgment time on those who would be the enemies Chapter The historical setting of the prophecies of chapters 34 & 35 is God s condemnation of the nations that have their hands against Him and His purpose with His people The sword of the Lord is now turned against Idumea,, who persecuted Israel when they came from captivity belongs to the Lord, and this was a time for vengeance against all those who would set themselves in against the people of God.

234. The destruction would be, with consequences that would be complete, that is, 246. Chapter Because of their apostasy, God and the armies had the land of Palestine with and famine The Israelites would be coming to sweet smelling blossoms that would their waste land into a paradise Isaiah s picture of the restored land would the captives, the weak would be, the down hearted would be lifted up The blind would see, the lame would leap in rejoicing, and captives would sigh for joy The Highway of, the roadway that led the captives back to the land of promise, was of wickedness and those things that would lead one astray Though this prophecy was when a remnant of the 12 tribes was restored to Canaan after the years of captivity, God s people, the redeemed and sanctified, are on a highway to Chapter Historically, chapters 38 and 39 precede chapters 36 and 37, and the setting is the king of efforts to take in 701 B.C was launching an attack against Jerusalem for reasons Rabshakeh spoke to them in the Jewish language,, instead of the language of commerce, which was 251. Habshakeh tried to generate a among Hezekiah s soldiers, but the people remained and faithful to the words of their king and prophet, Isaiah. Chapter When Hezekiah heard the report of what Rabshakeh had said, he was and went to the only place where he could receive a answer for the dilemma of Judah Though he had failed to put God first in his initial defense against the Assyrians, God was Jerusalem for a greater 254. The answer Hezekiah received was quick and ; Sennacherib would suffer the of the Lord and would be killed in his own land Sennacherib had moved the Assyrian army from Lachish to because of an immediate threat by the king of 256. Hezekiah was brought to his before God, knowing that Jerusalem could be delivered only if it were an of God If Jerusalem were, then the nations who had been defeated by the Assyrians would know that the God of Israel was the only and living God.

258. God reminded that he could not have done any of the things over which he boasted if God had not been for him. Babylon to bring judgment because of her Chapter In a matter of a the Assyrians would be gone and the would be back in their fields, cultivating their land. Chapter Hezekiah was probably years old when Isaiah told him to put his house in order, because he was going to 261. Hezekiah had accomplished many in Judah, but his works of restoration were no against death God heard Hezekiah s and even though there was not a visible preformed here God knew that Hezekiah needed that he would not die, and thus He gave him a sign of a on the stairway Hezekiah s song is a pleading for when he was in anguish feeling that his life was cut off before he could accomplish his in life God to his plea, and Hezekiah concluded that his ordeal was God s sign to him that he was a person in the eyes of God God knew that His people needed Hezekiah s in a time of national that was brought on by the Assyrian threat. Chapter These chapters can be grouped in three divisions: (1) The sovereignty of God over all, (2) the work of God for His people, and (3) the glory of the last days for the redeemed God reveals through Isaiah some of the most profound teaching of the Old Testament concerning His for the of man This is the voice of God who His people from their captivity because the people have been of sin The way was to be made for them to return and the revealing of the glory of the Lord meant the of His people Isaiah was commanded to proclaim the of man, and man s necessary on God When God on anything of His creation, it will wither or away in an instant The created is a better witness to the existence and of God than all the institutions of man s wisdom The news that would go from Jerusalem was in reference to all men, that God was coming to His purpose on earth The fulfillment of God s would not be by anything that man could do The king of sent Merodachbaladan to Hezekiah to give him a gift after his 268. Hezekiah revealed to the messengers all the of Judah, possibly showing the Babylonians that they had a great deal to offer in for an alliance with Babylon God was not pleased with Hezekiah s and his lack of trust in His 280. God is the creator of all things, and no man, by use of man s of measuring, can compare with God the of all that He created The wisdom of God is, and cannot be compared with the greatest of man Long before scientists could prove that the earth was, the prophet here mentions the nature of the earth Judah s would not be just because of Hezekiah s pride at this time, but God would be using 283. God will be able to in our lives beyond our dreams as we walk by

Chapter This chapter continues the of God to the nations for a comparison between their idolatrous gods and God s majesty. His grace and those who in idols will be shamed God was both the northern and southern kingdoms for their 285., the righteous man, was raised up and from his He created a nation Abraham was in order to fulfill a promise that in him all nations would be 287. Chapter God specifically called all Israel out of captivity by their back to the land of 300. God gave Egypt, Ethiopia and Seba as a for the of Jerusalem By preserving Israel for the purpose of the world, God must be glorified and Israel must understand that she was saved, not because of her own, but because of God s eternal plan through the nation The of Israel, her birth as a nation, being throughout history and restoration, was evidence that God was working through this nation God brought down the Babylonian Empire in order that the Medo-Persian Empire, through King, allow Israel to be to the land of Promise God challenges the nations, prophets and their idols because they cannot prophecy Chapter The character of the, who is pleased by God, is tender and 304. Israel was not created for the purpose of simply another nation on earth, but for His purpose to bring the of Himself into the world through this nation Israel had not earned her, but God gave it to them in order to His promises to the fathers God the Servant to the One through whom God would establish a with the people He will bring to the Gentiles and those in Chapter God sent Israel into three generations of captivity in order to accomplish the and psychological transformation of spiritualistic beliefs from their culture He will give, thus have a redemptive to all nations God hve His people over for in order to move them to 296. God will go forth from His and bring judgment on the wicked and for the righteous 297. Those who were spiritually will see 308. His will be poured out on them, as well as their future 309. God reminds them that He is the and and that there are no other gods beside Him.

310. God created man a being, and when this spiritual being forsakes the word of God, he will imagine spirits and gods by which he will his own life The that man cuts down, he uses as fire wood to keep him warm and to bake his 312. God will one to believe what they want, but He will also man for believing in the wrong thing A of the southern kingdom and of the northern kingdom would be to Palestine When the nation of Israel became, God was still with her through her and restoration are made from men s hands and just where man puts him Idols cannot man, for it is God who man, saves man and prophecy his future God prophecied that Cyrus will do His, a before Cyrus he lived and became a king The ravenous bird could possibly have reference to, since God called him from the east in order to bring down on Israel. Chapter Cyrus would be the king who would allow the to return to the land of Palestine The Medo-Persian Empire became a massive empire that reached west to the Sea and south to the border of 328. The Hebrew text of Stouthearted refers to one who trusts in his own, or those who are Chapter God the arrogant Babylonians for their treatment of His people The that permeates all prophecies in reference to the restoration of Israel to Palestine is that there is other God besides Me Man changed the eternal plan of God by following after his own 318. Cyrus was a king and allowed people to return to their own 330. would become the of their own ill-treatment of God s people It was among pagan nations for the kings to deify their kingdoms by deifying 332. The Babylonians supposedly acquired for themselves through their sorceries and enchantments and in their wickedness Israel was and shamed when she blasphemed God through 320. When God speaks of things concerning the, we can be that those things will come to pass God challenged them to their mediums for wisdom in order that they gain of the national calamity that was coming upon them God said that the of their knowledge would be consumed and would not them The revelation of God through the would bring the opportunity that every bow down. Chapter was the god of the Assyrians and was the god of the Babylonians. Chapter God reminded them of what He has done for them from the, in that He had showed them openly so that they would not give any to their idols They took that they were born out of God, then forgot this and started for

themselves the victories they had over others God resorted to prophecy in order to the foolishness of their 338. God worked through Israel for own glory and not because they were a people God works out the of His eternal plan of redemption of wicked men Israel must understand that it was who called the Babylonians to come upon His 341. Their deliverance from Egyptian captivity seems to be of a time when they would go forth from captivity There is a substance of this context that looks forward to Jesus who was the of God The Servant of God will at the hands of His adversaries to humiliate Him, but He is that the Father is working with and through Him Nothing will the Servant from the purpose for which He came into the world When one that he is doing the will of God, he has no reason to be 355. Those who the Lord are those who are to His will. Chapter 49 Chapter The of the Lord is introduced and calls to the world concerning His mission The Servant is the one sent out from God with a and is God s source of 344. The Servant will be a to the Gentiles so that He may be God s to the ends of the earth Those who were in will come from all distant to which they were taken God will not forget His because He has them engraved on the of His hand Cyrus gave the Israelites the they needed in order to return to the land and the city of Jerusalem. Chapter God wants Israel to know that her from Him was caused by 349. God knows how to to those who are repentant and seek to be 350. Those who live in will find no answer from Him in reference to their sinful state of 356. Abraham is the origin of Israel, and the origin of all those who live by faith in God National Israel was born from the womb of, but the church was born from the of Abraham God will bring the remnant once again into their 359. Their faith was the upon which God restored them first to, and then to their homeland God s will go forth as the light for all the nations of the world and the new law will be to all the world The world emphasizes the sustainability or certainty of the in contrast to that which will pass away The works of and of Israel from Egypt were from God Since it is God who is the one who delivers, then the more we understand the of God, the less we will those who seek to oppress us.

364. Israel had become a nation that was senselessly on the idolatry of the nations around them and away from God Those who were with Jesus during His ministry would not with Him during His and crucifixion The cup of God s was first poured out on Israel, and now it was going to be poured out on those who His people. Chapter The call to Jerusalem to up for glory for the unbelievers will never again strip and her before the nations again The Israelites had themselves into bondage by disobedience, but their deliverance through God s grace was 379. Jesus work for man was and definitely carried out Jesus death was not an, unplanned by God, for it was for this that Jesus came into the world The had wandered off into sin and the was by grace for those not deserving forgiveness of God Jesus Himself to be mistreated by those whom He had 369. The nations wondered at the of this nation that they thought would have with the captive nations Israel would go forth from captivity in in order to establish again the of the people God willed the cross for the of those who would believe and 384. Christians are the of the Servant because they have believed and obeyed the 371. Those Israelites who did not return remained among the in order to them to turn to the one true God The Jews would be the evangelism medium through whom the would go into all the world Isaiah gives a prophecy of the Christ who would come to redeem God s people from the of sin. Chapter The new is composed of those who are called out of the by the gospel The of the exiles from captivity portrays the new exodus that would come as a result of the calling by the Servant of God The new would be composed of those from all the world, both Jews and 374. As the nations at the suffering and deliverance of Israel, so they would marvel at the suffering and deliverance of the 388. The of Israel was based on the fact that God was seeking to send the Savior of the into the world. Chapter God strongly in history in order to bring about the of this prophecy that was given over 600 years before This prophecy is so of fulfillment that the verb tenses are in the tense Jesus appearance did not demand, for He was not attractive to look upon As God promised that He would never destroy the world through a flood so He promises Israel that He would never allow her to be taken into 390. The of David was never in the original plan of God, which was David s desire, God only it The temple God s presence and thus always left some in Israel feeling too far from the of His presence.

392. In the new Jerusalem, God s would not be identified by a physical structure, for it would be by those with whom He 393. No evil nation or force would ever the church because it would never go out of Chapter If they heeded the to come, they would receive more than that for which they could pay through works God s is free and no one can what the Lord has to offer was a prophet and king, and exemplified in his life a prophetic picture of the who would come to lead the people The would come to the Messiah, who could come out of 398. There is in repentance, not that God will leave us, but that we may lose our to repent. had to keep the Sabbath in order to indicate that he submitted to the law of the 406. National Israel is used to refer to the church, therefore, the church is national Israel Circumcision was an of national Israel, while spiritual circumcision of the is what identifies the people of God today It is not keeping of the Sabbath but keeping of every day of the week as a total of the transformed life that identifies the of Jesus Every disciple of Jesus has direct with God through prayer, and thus, we no longer look to a temple in order to pray God summoned the Assyrians to come and on Israel, while Judah s were aloof to the impending judgment of God The prophets were more concerned for their own well-being than the of the nation. Chapter God is the comprehension of man and He is not the of man God s and behavior are than man s thoughts could ever be God s word will fruit and changes the of man If the pure word of God is, then it will transform the lives of those who have a heart. Chapter The promise on those against whom the nationalistic Jews were, the Gentiles, for God s grace was to all men Keeping the Sabbath was given as a of the covenant that God had with national Israel When national Israel was still in, one 412. The condition of Israel was because they had lost their direction and turned on itself The children of parents continued the of debauchery and idolatry They believed in an of gods who would their wicked behavior They (looked on with respect) the genital organs, a common among pagan religions They became a society of no moral return, thus God consigned them to, yet He would sift out a remnant They feared more than God, and followed after the pressures to live according to the degraded morals of the day God told them that their would not them when they cried out for help.

419. The way was for restoration by removing the of the people While dwelling in the hearts of the, God judges those who live in rebellion Though the wicked will have no in this life, the repentant enjoy the peace of that passes all understanding. Chapter Our sins us from God and He feels from us because we have distanced ourselves from Him Isaiah says that they have used their being, hands, fingers, lips and tongues as for sin The society had to the point that people were being killed because of the crime of others Isaiah must be and lift up his voice about announcing the message of Israel s 423. It is the duty of the of God to reveal the sin of the people by comparing their behavior with the of God People morally stumbled along because there was no correct moral by which they could their lives The written law of God, the, was probably to the people There were some who presented their behavior before the Lord, but why He did not respond to their religiosity God saw the moral mess of their wicked society and that no one stood up for the against the oppression of the day They were performing the right religious ritual, but they were and their insincerity was manifested through their behavior Isaiah looks into the future when the would come into the world for the salvation of God s people One can perform the rituals of the law, but live to its principles It was to legally fast and at the same time be hard on their laborers, to feed the poor, and even refusing to care for one s own family If they would their behavior in their relationships with their fellow man, then their pleas to the Lord would bring a from God Though they would have to go into captivity and that of Israel be destroyed, the generation that would follow them would be restored because of the repentance of the 430. They had made the a time to do their own business, but if they restored it and on the Lord, God would turn to them with blessings The Savior will have, clothe Himself in the word of God and the to accomplish the will of God When the attacks the righteous, the Holy Spirit will lift up a banner of for the righteous and against the wicked. Chapter The will go from Israel and spread to all humanity and all will come to the Light A remnant of all tribes of Israel will return from the bondage of captivity to the Jerusalem Those who Jerusalem would in its reconstruction. Chapter God does not stop, though we stop speaking to Him in 444. The of the city will continually be to receive others, to receive trade, and to receive the homage of every nation.
