1 Narrative Lectionary Comprehensive List of All Four Years The preaching texts are always listed first. During the fall the preaching texts are taken from the Old Testament. A brief selection from one of the gospels is noted in parentheses as an additional accompanying reading during the fall. These accompanying readings are optional. During the fall the Old Testament texts are the primary vehicle for proclaiming the biblical story. On the last Sunday of Advent the gospel readings become the primary preaching texts.
