2 A Disciples Heart Humility Philippians 2:5 5. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus He humbled Himself Humility, the foundation of becoming a disciple of the Lord Jesus You must have a measure of humility to repent (leave behind your sins and your old life ) and be Born Again Knowing Him humbles us Matthew 28: And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20. teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. He told those who were already disciples to now Go and Make Disciples! First become a disciple and then make disciples How? First be Born Again and then be taught the Way of the Lord. How does He teach us today? His Spirit, Scriptures, His Body The issue of Humility is addressed by Jesus, Matthew, Luke, Paul, Peter, and James and several co-authors. Is Humility important? 2 Corinthians 5: For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died;

3 15. and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. Control! The essence of ownership, whoever controls me, owns me. Control! In the military by the Commander in Chief Control! By your employer Control! By King of Kings Matthew 18:4 4. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Trust, children throw themselves into our arms Trust, we can throw ourselves into His arms Matthew 23: But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10. Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. 11. But the greatest among you shall be your servant. 12. Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted. This scripture is why I prefer not to be called Pastor or Priest or Teacher or Father, etc. The greatest in His eyes are those who have the heart of and live in that manner Luke 14: For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. God a Himself promotes the humble

4 Luke 18: I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get. 13. But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me, the sinner! 14. I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted. God a Himself promotes the humble 2 Corinthians 11: Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you without charge? 8. I robbed other churches by taking wages from them to serve you; Paul humbled himself, working for a time as a tent maker to support his evangelistic efforts. Matthew 11: Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Humble in heart, humility is a heart issue not the outer man although the outer man reflects the heart Luke 14:7-11 Parable of the Guests 7. And He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He noticed how they had been picking out the places of honor at the table, saying to them,

When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him, 9. and he who invited you both will come and say to you, Give your place to this man, and then in disgrace you proceed to occupy the last place. 10. But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, Friend, move up higher ; then you will have honor in the sight of all who are at the table with you. 11. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. These were His disciples fighting over seating Colossians 1: He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. This is the goal of becoming a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ Ephesians 4: Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, 2. with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, 3. being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. We should walk In His Steps. I know a few of you are reading the book Philippians 2: Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;

6 4. do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6. who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7. but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10. so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11. and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Humility of mind, how we think Obedience to the Lord births Humility in our hearts I know, I know. It s hard to be humble when you re perfect in every way Colossians 3: So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13. bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. 14. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Humility always causes me to remember that the Lord forgave me so of course I forgive others. James 1:21-22

7 21. Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. 22. But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. You can not become a disciple without humility as it takes humility to learn. You must receive the Word implanted someone must plant it. But it s MY garden. It was your garden, now it s His, Hallelujah! James 4: Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9. Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. 10. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. You never need to lobby for yourself. The Lord uses the humble thats Him exalting us. Never thought much of myself. I ve enjoyed being a Vermonter, living here and would have been happy never to have left. The Lord had other plans. Colombia, SA. He raised me up and made me well known so that people would come when they heard I would be there. 35,000 plus once were camping for 3 days waiting for me to arrive and speak. Thats the Lords doing. 1 Peter 5: You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

8 6. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7. casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Clothe yourself, humility is something that you can put on like almost anything else. 1 Peter 3: To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; 9. not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. To sum up, the bottom line all of us are to be humble in spirit Romans 12:3 3. For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. Arrogance steals, kills and destroys true love and prevents us from Worshipping in spirit and Truth John 4: But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. Our God is seeking those with humility!!!! Proverbs 11:2 2 When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom.

9 One of the fruits of humility is wisdom Proverbs 18:12 12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, But humility goes before honor. Once again, humility brings em fruit Teachableness Matthew 28: And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19. First become a disciple and then make disciples Learning to and teaching others to obey everything! Proverbs 1:5 5. A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel, Arrogance often prevents this Legends in our minds Proverbs 19: Listen to counsel and accept discipline, That you may be wise the rest of your days. Listen and Receive 2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17. so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. To Timothy but the principle applies to us all. Colossians 1: so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; Epignosis, the center (epi) of our being, our Heart! Love Matthew 22: Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law? 37. And He said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38. This is the great and foremost commandment. 39. The second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40. On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets. You shall love Mark 12: One of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, What commandment is the foremost of all? 29. Jesus answered, The foremost is, Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is one Lord; 30. and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.

11 31. The second is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. 32. The scribe said to Him, Right, Teacher; You have truly stated that HE is One, and there is no one else besides Him; 33. and to love Him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one s neighbor as himself, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34. When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. After that, no one would venture to ask Him any more questions. You shall love To agree with the Truth brings you close to the Kingdom of God Luke 10: And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26.
