4 Does God have an Eternal Purpose or Plan? Christopher J. H. Wright wrote about The Mission of God Unlocking the Bible s grand narrative, where his stated purpose was to develop an approach to biblical hermeneutics that s sees the mission of God (and the participation in it of God s people) as a framework within which we can read the whole Bible. Mission is a major key that unlocks the whole grand narrative of the canon of Scripture. (2006: 17).

Wright wrote: Down through the centuries it would probably be fair to say the Christians have been good at their messianic reading of the Old Testament but inadequate (and sometimes utterly blind) at their missional reading of it. 6 It appears that God does have a plan and a mission. It appears that God has been working towards the conclusion of His Eternal Purpose. Therefore when we approach the OT it is on the basis that what we see there in the ordinances and dealings of God all fit within his purpose. And the NT can often show us the substance.

18 The New Testament Writers The NT writers clearly understood that God was the creator of the world and all that is in it. They make no attempt to explain how but accepted by faith that what Genesis records was true. A creator God is fundamental to all else that the Bible says about God and his actions.

21 Athens He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn t live in manmade temples, Ephesus I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning.

23 Writer to the Hebrews For every house has a builder, but the one who built everything is God. Hebrews 3:4 By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. Hebrews 11:3

24 Apostle John You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased. Revelation 4:11; cf. 10:6

25 Apostle Peter They deliberately forget that God made the heavens long ago by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water. 6 Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood. 7 And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed. 2 Peter 3:5-7

26 THE SEVEN MAJOR FEASTS OF ISRAEL The use of the people & events of the Old Testament as types or ensamples of people and events in the New Testament is authorized by Scripture: 1Cor 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world (age Greek 165 aion) (not 2889 Kosmos, world) are come.

27 The First Passover Exodus 12:1-16 This month shall be the first month of the year On the 10 th day each family to choose a lamb or goat for sacrifice It must not have any defects Take special care of this chosen animal until the evening of the 14 th day

28 The whole assembly must slaughter their animal at twilight They are to take some of the blood and smear on the sides and the top of the doorframes of their houses where they eat Be fully dressed, wear your sandals, and carry your walking stick in your hand.

29 Eat the meal with urgency, for this is the Lord s Passover. On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn son and firstborn male animal in the land of Egypt. I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt, for I am the Lord!

30 But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt. Vs 46: Each Passover lamb must be eaten in one house.

31 Do not carry any of its meat outside, and do not break any of its bones. 47 The whole community of Israel must celebrate this Passover festival. Jesus is our Passover The Passover lamb was examined on the 10th of Nisan (Mt 21:23-27; 23) and was to be without blemish

32 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. 19 It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. 20 God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake. 1 Pet 1:18-21 (NLT).

33 Pilate: I find no fault in him (John 19:4). Not a bone to be broken For the Lord protects the bones of the righteous; not one of them is broken! Ps. 34:20;

34 It was the day of preparation, and the Jewish leaders didn t want the bodies hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath (and a very special Sabbath, because it was Passover week). So they asked Pilate to hasten their deaths by ordering that their legs be broken. Then their bodies could be taken down. 32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men crucified with Jesus.

35 33 But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead, so they didn t break his legs. 34 One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out 36 These things happened in fulfillment of the Scriptures that say, Not one of his bones will be broken,

36 Again we see how God s plan that was shown in type in the way he led Israel was enacted in lockstep by Jesus. Jesus fulfilled the Passover requirements. 50 days later the feast of Pentecost occurred. Pentecost was the second feast of Israel instituted by God in the time of Moses. Leviticus 23:9-14

41 Eternal Purpose Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
