God Hates Lying This is a Bible study that I have created for my own son and wanted to share it with you! The en- re study is based on Proverbs 6:12-19 where God warns us about lying and lists the seven things that He hates. This is a 10-day study that follows the acronym T.R.U.E.: Talk to God, Read the Bible, Understand what you read, and Evaluate. A er each day, there is an accountability ac on to complete, learning that following God s commands are much easier when we hold our- selves accountable to others. The red asterisk (*) are ques ons you may desire discuss with your son together. The italicized por ons are examples or stories for your son to learn from as he an- swers character-based ques ons about honesty. The blue passages are explana ons and an- swers to assist your son. This study is intended for boys ages I hope this informa on and the study of God s word will bear frui ul in your lives as much as it has ours in the area of being honest by CHOOSING to refrain from lying. Wri en by Joyice Harris November 2013 Scripture references from The Message and NLT transla ons of the Bible
A Greeting for Mom & Dad Greetings! My guess is that if you have interest in this study it is because your child is struggling with honesty or because you want to protect him against it before it becomes an issue. Either way, I want to say kudos to you for seeking to find a source that you believe will help your son(s). Before I wrote this study, I was on a desperate search to find something my son could understand while learning that lying was serious business. I could not find much I was pleased with, so I created this study myself. This was created with all boys in mind and from the heart of a mother who desperately desires to choke sin out of her son s life. This study is intended for boys ages If your sons are older, it will fit but many of the examples are written for 8-12 years old to understand. If your child is younger, you could possibly work through this study alongside him;; but fewer than six years old would be too young. You are the parent. I will let you be the judge. This is written as an interactive study and guide to discussion honesty in your home. It is my prayer that your son will view lying as a choice he refrains from. Not because he is perfect, not to avoid punishment or shame, not even because you tell him lying is wrong, necessarily. No, my prayer is that he runs from lying simply because he wants what God wants. And in this study he will learn that Proverbs 6 tells us that God hates lying! (Please, allow your child to read the greeting below and the congratulations at the end once he has completed the study.) Walking in His Truth, Alizah A Greeting for the Student Greetings! In this Bible study, you will learn what God has to say about lying, what are liars, and the seven things that God hates. It is my hope and prayer that as you study God s Word you learn how He wants you to act and you have a desire to do it. Boys are very important to God. God has great plans for you as you grow into man. In order for you to have what God plans for you, you must learn be truthful. Do not allow dishonesty to keep you from the life God wants to give you. This study, in part, will teach you how to do that. Walking in His Truth, Alizah
Day 1 What Does God Say About Lying? Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, help me to choose truth over lying. Read the Bible: What are worthless and wicked people like? They are constant liars. Proverbs 6:12 (NLT)
Understanding what you read: What do you think God is saying? What do you think God is saying about lying? Is it ever okay for you to lie? Why/why not? * The Bible says that and people are constant liars. Define worthless: Define wicked:
Do you believe the Bible is true? * Evaluate: Yes No Do you believe you should obey what the Bible says? * Yes No If you believe the Bible is true, and you should obey what it says, is lying an option for you? * Yes No Accountability: Let your mom or dad know that you are done for the day. Discuss what you learned with one of them. Tell your mom or dad that you will work hard today to be honest. Ask for their help to keep you accountable in telling the truth.
Day 2 What liars do. Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, help me to have honest intentions. I do not desire to fool people on purpose. Read the Bible: They wink at each other, they shuffle their feet, they cross their fingers behind their backs. Proverbs 6:13 (MSG)
Understanding what you read: In this passage, the Bible is talking about people who tell lies. It is connected to the verse you read yesterday (Proverbs 6:12.) Verse 13 explains to us what dishonest people (liars) do. Make a list using Proverbs 6:13. This list will help you spot out liars. God offers us insight in this Scripture so we can avoid being fooled. They at each other. (Two people trying to hide the truth or fool someone else.) They their feet. (Hitting someone with your foot as a way of suggesting they lie for you.) They their behind their backs. (Lying while crossing your fingers behind your back to trick/fool someone.) It is sort of funny how the Bible mentions these things that liars do thousands of years ago and people are still doing the same things today. Nothing is new under the sun. At your age, you have probably seen at least one of these lying tricks (even if it was just on television or in a movie.) Your parents have and their parents have and on and on. There is a double point: you need to know how to quickly spot a lie and you should refrain from doing what liars do.
Evaluate: Have you ever tried to trick or fool someone before? YES NO Most of us will answer yes to this question. We are human and as humans we make mistakes. The important thing is to ask God to forgive you and apologize to whomever you tricked or fooled. If you have not done so yet, take a moment now and ask for forgiveness, then apologize. Accountability: Tell another person (different than the parent you told yesterday) that you will work hard today to be honest. This can be a sibling or your other parent. Ask for their help to keep you accountable. (This person does not have to live with you. A phone call to whomever you have in mind is just fine.
Day 3 Lying ruins lives. Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, help me to avoid trouble and ruin in my life by speaking truth. Read the Bible: Their perverse minds are always cooking up something nasty, always stirring up trouble. Catastrophe is just around the corner for them, a total smashup, their lives ruined beyond repair. Proverbs 6:14-15 (MSG)
Understanding what you read: What does perverse mean? In this passage, perverse means twisted. God is explaining that people who are wicked lie. Nasty, in this passage, means to be mean or unpleasant. What is catastrophe? Catastrophes bring damage. This passage shows us lying brings damage into our lives. When the author uses the word smash up we can better understand it if we think of something we can actually smash. Have you even seen two cars in an accident? When two cars smash into each other it does not look good. No driver wants to drive around with a smashed car. It looks awful and everyone who sees the smashed up car will know the driver was in an accident. Just like an accident smashes up a car;; lying smashes up lives. What does ruin beyond repair mean? You are probably old enough to know what ruin means. But ruin beyond repair may be a new phrase for you. When something is ruined it means it can no longer do what it was created or made to do. Water ruins electronics. So, if you drop your cell phone in a sink full of water, it is ruined. It can longer be used to make and receive calls. Lying ruins your life. Whatever God created you to
do (accept salvation, help people learn about Jesus, become a pastor, a pilot, a soldier, a doctor, an architect, an athlete, a husband a dad, or anything else) lying will ruin it. Ruin beyond repair means that the damage was so great it cannot be repaired. This type of ruin is better understood if you think of a fire. If a house burned all the way to the ground it would be ruined beyond repair. There isn t much you can do with the wood after it turns into ashes. It is forever ruined. You are commanded by God (and required by your parents) to live a truthful life. A life that will not be damaged by lies and certainly not one that will bring so much damage it would be difficult or impossible to repair.
Evaluate: Write in a few sentences about what you learned about lying today? (Something that you did not before.) What are some things you may need to change after reading what Proverbs says about lying? Accountability: Check in with the two people you chose to be accountable to with your honesty. Ask them how are you doing? Tell them how what you have learned in Proverbs is helping you stay honest. When you read the Bible and apply it to your life, you are strengthened to do what it says. Ask your parent/sibling can they see that what you are learning is helping you.
Day 4 God hates liars Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, thank you for helping me know the things that you do not like. Give me the grace to flee from what you hate so I can be closer to you. Read the Bible: Here are six things G hates, and one more that he loathes with a passion: eyes that are arrogant, a tongue that lies, hands that murder the innocent, a heart that hatches evil plots, feet that race down a wicked track, a mouth that lies under oath, a troublemaker in the family. Proverbs 6:16-19 (MSG)
Understanding what you read: Words to Help Loathe: Another word for hate. Arrogant/Pride: Pride is thinking too great of yourself. Hatches: To create or to come up with. Oath: A promise to someone or something Make a list of the 7 things God hates
Evaluate: What do you notice in the list of numbers 2 & 6? Why do you think God listed lying twice? Accountability: HAVE YOU BEEN CHECKING IN WITH YOUR ACCOUNTABILITY PARNER? Your mom? Dad? Sibling? Friend? Family member? Do not forget to ask someone to help you on this journey to dedicate your heart to honesty.
Day 5 Eyes That Are Arrogant Today (and for the rest of the study) we will take a closer look into the 7 things that God hates. Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, help me to fight against pride.
Understanding what you read: Eyes that are arrogant: This refers to people who are prideful. TJ says, That boy cannot run fast at all. I bet I could beat him. Yeah, I m a better runner than he is. I better than all these runners! Nobody can beat me. I m the best! While you are talented and God knows you are very good at some things, you should not think too great of yourself. (This is the mistake that TJ is making.) There is line between being good at something and thinking you are better than everyone else. But even if you were better than everyone else, it is God that blesses you with gifts and abilities and you cannot take credit for it all alone. What did TJ s thoughts of pride cause him to do? TELL A THE TRUTH TELL A LIE It may be true that TJ is a great runner but is it true that no one can beat him? Maybe, maybe not;; but he does not know that. So he is telling a lie to himself so he can think he is greater or better than the other runners. This is pride. This is also lying and God hates lying.
Could TJ have been more honest with himself? YES NO How? Can you be prideful or arrogant in truth? YES NO (No, you cannot. Pride is not an honest act.)
Evaluate: Write at least one thing you learned about eyes that are arrogant (pride)? Accountability: Ultimately, you are accountable to God. Everything you say and do should be done to please him. Today, spend some time alone with God and tell Him your plans to please Him, especially with your words. Ask Him for the power to be able to resist being dishonest no matter what. (Make sure you write down any instructions God may reveal to you.)
Day 6 A tongue that lies. Today (and for the rest of the study) we will take a closer look into the 7 things that God hates. Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, guard my tongue against lies. Read the Bible: Here are six things G hates, and one more that he loathes with a passion: eyes that are arrogant, a tongue that lies, hands that murder the innocent, a heart that hatches evil plots, feet that race down a wicked track, a mouth that lies under oath, a trouble maker in the family. Proverbs 6:16-19 (MSG)
Understanding what you read: A tongue that lies: This refers to people who use their mouths to lie to themselves, to others, or to God. Ricky s mom asked him to clean his room. He did not mean to be disobedient he had simply forgot to do it. When his mom asked him if his room was clean he used his tongue to sin against God (and his mother) replying, Yes mom, I cleaned it when you first told me to. When she found out he had been dishonest, Ricky had to write an apology letter to God and his mother, he lost all video games for a week, and he still had to clean his room. Even though Ricky did not mean to disobey, he should have told the truth and admitted that his room was not clean because he forgot. What did Ricky s tongue do? TELL A LIE TELL THE TRUTH Ricky was dishonest to his mother. Proverbs teaches us that lying is not a good way to live. We need to speak truth if we expect goodness in our lives. Punishment is not goodness. Ricky brought his own punishment into his life by lying and God hates lying.
Do you think Ricky should have told the truth? * YES NO Why? Can you have a lying tongue in truth? YES NO (No, you cannot. A lying tongue is not honest.)
Evaluate: Write at least one thing you learned about a tongue that lies? Read Proverbs 6: What does a tongue that lies have in common with the rest of the things that God hates?
Accountability: If you have not been accountable to a sibling yet, today is the day! It is important that you rely on your brother(s)/sister(s) to help you obey God s word. Your siblings love you and want to see you do well. They may not always act like it, but they do. Part of your bond is making sure you cover one another. You and your sibling(s) should pray together today. Ask them to pray over you. Pray that you will walk in honesty and grow up to be honest man. (If you do not have a sibling, have one of your parents pray over you. If you sibling is younger than you ask your mom /dad to lead the prayer while your sibling repeats it back.)
Day 7 Hands that murder the innocent Today (and for the rest of the study) we will take a closer look into the 7 things that God hates. Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, teach me to help and take care of others.
Understanding what you read: Hands that murder the innocent: This refers to bad people who hurt others for no reason. You may have seen a news report where a child, or group of people were hurt by another person. The children/others did not deserve it but they were hurt anyway. This verse is more for adults than kids so we do not need to discuss it a lot. But it is important that you know God hates when innocent people are hurt. What do you think would happen if someone asked the bad person what they did or where were they at? They would TELL THE TRUTH TELL A LIE He or she may lie to protect their self. God hates when innocent people are hurt and He knows a lie has to be told to cover up what they did wrong and God hates lying. Do you think the bad person should tell the truth? * YES NO
Why? Can someone hurt innocent people in truth? YES NO (No, you cannot. Hurting people is not an honest act.)
Evaluate: Write at least one thing you learned about hands that murder the innocent (hurting the innocent)? Read Proverbs 6: What does hands that murder the innocent have in common with the rest of the things that God hates? Accountability: Check in with the people you chose to be accountable to with your honesty. Ask them how are you doing? Tell them how what you have learned in Proverbs is helping you stay honest. When you read the Bible and apply it to your life, you are strengthened to do what it says. Ask your parent/sibling can they see that what you are learning is helping you.
Day 8 A Heart that Hatches Evil Plots Today (and for the rest of the study) we will take a closer look into the 7 things that God hates. Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, help me see others the way that you do. Thank you for the wisdom to treat people nicely.
Understanding what you read: A heart that hatches evil plots: This refers to people who look for a way to be evil or hurt someone else. They want it so badly that they are willing to think long and hard on it to make sure the other person is indeed hurt. You have probably seen a movie or TV show where this has happened. But for this example I would like to use the story of Joseph. Joseph s brothers were so angry with him (because of his dream) that all of them plotted a plan to hurt him. They all decided to sale him into slavery. He was removed from his home and thrown into a new land. He did not see his family for years. Joseph did not do anything wrong. He just wanted to tell his brothers about the dream he had. His brothers became really upset about what they thought the dream meant. Their anger corrupted their hearts so much that they plotted evil against their own brother. Joseph s brothers were responsible for him and they knew their father would ask about him. So, they had to figure out something to tell their father, Jacob, when the time came.
When Jacob asked where was Joseph, what do you think his brothers said? TOLD A LIE TOLD THE TRUTH Joseph s brothers lied to their own father saying that Joseph was dead. In order to cover up their plan for evil against Joseph, his brothers had to lie to their father. God hates a heart that hatches evil plots because He hates seeing people hurt and because He knows you will eventually have to lie to cover up what you did and God hates lying. Do you think Joseph s brothers should have told the truth? * Why? YES NO Accountability: Can you plot evil in truth? YES NO (No, you cannot. Plotting evil is not an honest act.)
Evaluate: Write at least one thing you learned about a heart that hatches evil (plotting evil or harm)? Read Proverbs 6: What does a heart that hatches evil have in common with the rest of the things that God hates?
Accountability: Today you will be accountable to yourself. Because of sin, it is never a good idea to only hold yourself accountable to you, But it is important to learn to not let yourself down either. Read the story of Joseph today (Genesis 37.) Once you are done have a discussion with your mom or dad about how Joseph s brothers treated him. Tell your mom or dad your response to question 2 today. Discuss why you chose your response. No one is checking to see if you do this. Can you be accountable to yourself today?
Day 9 A Wicked Track Today (and for the rest of the study) we will take a closer look into the 7 things that God hates. Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, help me see others the way that you do. Thank you for wisdom to treat people nicely.
Understanding what you read: Feet That Race Down a Wicked Path: Another way of saying this is feet that race to do wrong. This verse is talking about people who want to commit evil, sin, or harm. This is not the way we should live. God does not like wrongdoing or sin of any kind. However there are some people who just cannot wait to get in trouble, they actually go looking for it and sometimes they start it. There is a kid in the neighborhood who s known as a troublemaker. Anytime there is trouble, he is always involved. Once there was a fight and he started it. Another time, Mr. Parker complained that his mailbox was damaged. Later, it was found out that he kicked it down. Recently, Mrs. Hampton s lawn signs went missing and no one could figure out what happened to them. Then, his mom found them in his room weeks later. If you have not noticed, trouble seems to follow this kid. Is it that trouble follows him or that he likes trouble goes looking for it even? Some people, sometimes even kids, have to be where trouble is. As Christians, we should pray for anyone we know who is in trouble, but we must be careful not to be close friends with kids that cause a lot of trouble.
When his mom asked him about the fight, Mr. Parker s mailbox, or Mrs. Hampton s lawn signs, what do you think he did? TOLD A LIE TOLD THE TRUTH We do not have enough information about the fight, but for the mailbox and lawn signs we know that he lied because the truth was found out much later. He lied to escape punishment or embarrassment and God hates lying. Do you think Dwayne should have told the truth?* Why? YES NO _ Can you race down a wicked path (keep trouble) in truth? YES NO (No, you cannot. Keeping trouble is not an honest act.)
Evaluate: Write at least one thing you learned about racing down wicked path (wrongdoing or trouble making)? Read Proverbs 6: What does racing down a wicked path have in common with the rest of the things that God hates? Accountability: Take some time to reflect on your accountability today. Have you been accountable to God, your parents, siblings, and yourself over the past few days? Did you miss a day? (It s okay! But we need to get right back on track if this happens.) Are you satisfied with your progress? Is God? Your parents? Journal your thoughts and feelings about your accountability in honesty. Records any areas you want to improve in.
Day 10 A Mouth That Lies Under Oath Today (and for the rest of the study) we will take a closer look into the 7 things that God hates. Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, help me to speak truthfully about others always. Help me to protect my reputation by witnessing honestly.
Understanding what you read: A Mouth That Lies Under Oath: Another way of saying this is a false witness that speaks lies. When you are a witness you are supposed to report only the truth about the events you saw or heard. Some people will lie as a witness to protect their selves or someone else. Sometimes a witness may lie to gain a reward or miss a consequence. Either way, it is not okay to tell a lie. Jorge went to Marcus house. Tommy was going to meet them both there so they could build Lego s together. They were all in the basement and everybody was laughing and having a good time. Then, Tommy called Marcus a baby. Marcus got upset and pushed Tommy s Lego s down and they all collapsed on the floor. Tommy ran upstairs to tell Marcus mother what happened. Marcus followed behind saying he did not knock it over, they all fell. Jorge was the only witness to what actually happened. All of their moms were upstairs talking and they do not know if Tommy or Marcus is right. The moms asked Jorge what really happened. Jorge likes coming to Marcus house and he was afraid if he told the truth Marcus would not let him come over. Jorge decided to give a false account against Tommy saying the Lego s just fell over. Tommy did not deserve to be lied on, even though he should not have called Marcus a baby. It is important that you tell the truth when you have witnessed an event. In the example, Jorge lied because he wanted to keep Marcus as a
friend;; but this is still wrong. A friend would not ask you to lie and you should never feel like you have to. Jorge should have told the truth because God tells us to do so. Maybe Marcus would have still been Jorge s friend, maybe not;; but Jorge s decision should have come from a duty and desire to please God. Yes, it is okay to want and protect friendships but not when you want it more than pleasing God. Jorge should have chosen God first, then Marcus. When Jorge was asked what did he witness between Marcus & Tommy, what did he do? WITNESS FALSELY or WITNESS TRUTHFULLY Jorge witnessed falsely. He did not want to admit that Marcus knocked down Tommy s design on purpose because he liked Marcus house and he wanted to keep him as a friend, so he lied and God hates lying. Do you think Jorge should have told the truth? * YES NO
Why? Can you witness falsely in truth? YES NO (No, you cannot. Witnessing falsely is not an honest act.)
Evaluate: Write at least one thing you learned about lying under oath (witnessing falsely)? Read Proverbs 6: What does lying under oath have in common with the rest of the things that God hates?
Accountability: I believe you have been truthful! Am I right? The Bible instructs us to confess our sins. But did you know there was a man in the Bible who confessed his righteousness? (Read about him 2 Kings 20:1-7.) He was very ill and about to die. He cried out the Lord with the things he had done to please Him.) After you are done reading, make a list of all the times you were honest this week when you had a very tempting chance to lie. Summarize 2 Kings 20:1-7 with your mom or dad and read them your list of righteousness. Remember, we should obey God simply because He instructs us to. Not to gain a reward or attention. But there is nothing wrong with being happy when you make Godly choices. You should be encouraged and your parents will be very excited to hear!
Day 11 Trouble Maker Today (and for the rest of the study) we will take a closer look into the 7 things that God hates. Use the acronym T.R.U.E. to learn what God has to say about lying. Talk to God: Lord, help me see others the way that you do. Thank you for wisdom to treat people nicely.
Understanding what you read: A Troublemaker in the Family: You know from this Bible study, God does not like trouble. God is a god of peace. God is also a god of family. He created family and wants families to walk in love and get along together. Family troublemakers may cause trouble outside of the home, but in this case, the Bible is talking about causing trouble within your own family. In Genesis, we learn of two brothers who did not get along;; mainly, because one of them went stirring up trouble. Cain and Abel were brothers who answered to God. It came time to offer God a sacrifice. Cain presented some of his crops, for he was a farmer. Abel offered a gift, the best of the firstborn lambs from his flock, for he was shepherd. The Lord accepted Abel s gift but he refused Cain s. Cain was very upset at this and began to hate his own brother. God told Cain his sacrifice was rejected because he did not offer it correctly. He also told Cain his sacrifice would be accepted if he did what was right. He warned Cain about disobeying and doing what he wanted to do. Later, Cain tricked Abel and led him into a field where he attacked and killed his brother. Once God asked Cain where Abel was, Cain lied, saying he did not know where Abel was. Then, he got an attitude with God, asking, Am I my brother s keeper?
Instead of Cain asking for the Lord s forgiveness and offering an acceptable sacrifice, he tricked Abel. The Bible does not show us a conversation between Cain, Abel, & God about the correct way to sacrifice;; but because Abel got it right, we know that God had to have told them. Cain simply chose to disobey. His disobedience led him to trickery. His trickery led him to killing. To hide his sins, he lied. At this time, Cain & Abel were Adam & Eve s only sons. Can you imagine how Adam & Eve must have felt when they found out the trouble Cain had caused? It is not fun to watch a brother hurt his own brother. God hates this. Parents do not like it either. We must be careful not to cause trouble within our own homes. It is important that you love your siblings, pray for them, and do your best to avoid trouble. Because Cain did not do these things, it cost Abel his life. When God asked Cain about Abel, what did he do? TOLD THE TRUTH TOLD A LIE Cain lied answering that he did not know where he was. He lied because he did want to admit he had killed his brother and God hates lying.
Do you think Cain should have lied to God? * YES NO Why? Can you make trouble in truth? YES NO (No, you cannot. Trouble making is not an honest act.)
Evaluate: Write at least one thing you learned about a troublemaker in the family? Read Proverbs 6: What does troublemaking in the family have in common with the rest of the things that God hates? *What does all of the things God hates have in common with each other?* Yes, they all include lying. Each and every one of them is a deceptive act against God, people, or yourself. In a nutshell, it is fair to say that God hates lying 7 times over. This is a message to us be honest!
Accountability: Today is the last day of this Bible study, but it will not be the last day of your walking in honesty. You should read the Bible a lot and remember to obey what it says. You are accountable to God, your family, others, and yourself. You should consider these people when you are tempted to disobey or be dishonest. Today you will need to read the Honesty Oath. Really read it. Make a decision. Do I want to do this? I know you CAN. Your parents know you CAN. You know you CAN. But WILL you? Again, make a decision. Hopefully, you decide that you WILL. If so, please sign it. When you sign a piece a paper you are agreeing to do what it says. After you have signed it, invite your family to gather so you can present it to them. Read your oath to your family. Be accountable to them as you promise to be honest to God, them, others, and yourself. They can help keep you on track.
Congrats!!! Congratulations! You have completed this study! You should have learned what God has to say about lying, what liars do, and the seven things that God hates. It is important that as you grow from boy to man you learn how to have moral character. Men are called to leadership and the head of their households. This is an awesome calling of the Lord but it comes with much responsibility. A part of that is to know what the Bible says in general and about certain topics. (This is called knowledge.) Another part is to be honest and run away from hurting others, witness falsely, making trouble, and avoiding people who cause you to lie. This study has given you some of both. You now know what the Bible says about lying and you are responsible to God and others for that knowledge. You have also learned that you should not lie. You must now act on your knowledge. (This is called wisdom.) Wisdom is applying the knowledge you have gained from the Bible. It is my prayer that you grow into an honest man and spread the light of Jesus by giving others the Truth. Blessings, Alizah

My Honesty Oath: I,, promise to make a daily effort to be honest to God, my family, others, and myself. I will avoid the temptation to lie and chose to be honest. I will talk in complete honesty. I will not try to trick, fool, lie, or deceive anyone else. I will let my yes be yes and my no be no because I understand I hurt others when I lie. I can understand that God hates lying and expects me to walk in truth. I can be honest in every situation as I seek to please God, and I WILL.
