Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Miriam and Michael June 12, 2010 Prayer Requests and Announcements 1. Opening Poem: Consecrated St. Catherine of Siena All has been consecrated. The creatures in the forest know this, The earth does, the seas do, the clouds know as does the heart full of love. Strange a priest would rob us of this knowledge and then empower himself with the ability to make holy what already was 2. Call to Service SONG: Gather Your People (315) 3. First Reading: Canto 19 of the Tao Rid of formalized wisdom and learning People would be a hundredfold happier. Rid of conventionalized duty and honor People would find their families dear. Rid of legalized profiteering People would have no thieves to fear. These methods of life have failed, all three, Here is the way, it seems to me: Set people free, As deep in their hearts they would like to be, From private greeds And wanton needs. 1

4. RESPONSORIAL PSALM: from the Second Poem of the Song of Songs R.: My love is mine and I am his. He pastures his flock among the lilies. On my bed at night I sought the man who is my sweetheart: I sought but could not find him! So I shall get up and go through the city; in the streets and in the squares, I shall seek my sweetheart. I sought but could not find him! R. I came upon the watchmen those who go on their rounds in the city: Have you seen my sweetheart? R. Barely had I passed them when I found my sweetheart. I caught him, would not let him go, not till I had brought him to my mother s house, to the room where she conceived me! R. 5. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: (Ricardo) 8. GOSPEL READING: Lk 7:36 8:3 God be with you. And also with you. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke. Glory to you, O God. A Pharisee invited Jesus to dine with him, and he entered the Pharisee s house and reclined at table. Now there was a sinful woman in the city who learned that he was at table in the house of the Pharisee. Bringing an alabaster flask of ointment, she stood behind him at his feet weeping and began to bathe his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and anointed them with the ointment. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this he said to himself, If this man were a prophet, he would know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner. Jesus said to him in reply, Simon, I have something to say to you. 2

Tell me, teacher, he said. Two people were in debt to a certain creditor; one owed five hundred days wages and the other owed fifty. Since they were unable to repay the debt, he forgave it for both. Which of them will love him more? Simon said in reply, The one, I suppose, whose larger debt was forgiven. He said to him, You have judged rightly. Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, Do you see this woman? When I entered your house, you did not give me water for my feet, but she has bathed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but she has not ceased kissing my feet since the time I entered. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she anointed my feet with ointment. So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven because she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little. He said to her, Your sins are forgiven. The others at table said to themselves, Who is this who even forgives sins? But he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace. Afterward he journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod s steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources. 7. DIALOGUE/REFLECTION 3

8. INTERCESSIONS: Living, Loving God, we rest in the depth of Your peace, the vastness of Your love, the richness of Your abundance, the awesome gift of Your wisdom. We take refuge in You. Make Your home in us as we make ours in you. Thank you, God, for the faith that reveals our good. We become still and in the space of infinite possibility, we declare our consciousness of abundance, offering gratitude and thanksgiving for all the good we see and all the good we do not see. Thank you, God, for Divine Ideas, the currency of the Universe. And where we do not yet see abundance, sweet Spirit, move in and through us to heal us at depth. Wherever there is fear, God, grant us faith. Where there is a sense of separation, grant that we might know our oneness. May all sense of lack or limitation be swept away, so that we easily and joyfully give what is ours to give--time, talent, treasure--knowing that all we need is right here. Thank you, God, for generosity and the desire to make a difference in our world. We are open and receptive to the sense of enough and more than enough. Sweet Spirit, You are abundance and delight. We need only remember that we are made in Your image and Your likeness, as we listen for your guidance. [A moment of silence] Thank you, God, for all good gifts. 9. BREAD-BREAKING PRAYER God be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to God. Let us give thanks to God our Creator. It is right to give God thanks and praise. May this bread we pass remind us of all that nourishes and sustains us, and the unbounded generosity nature bestows upon us each day. May this bread we share awaken us to the suffering of those who share not,

who are loved not, and who live without community, family or care each day. May this bread we consume bind us together as one, deepening in us the resolve to live with the passion of nonviolent love, consummated in our breath, our speech, and our action each day. Ricardo: Now let us say together the words in a translation from the Aramaic the prayer that Jesus spoke: O Birther! Father-Mother of the Cosmos, Focus your light within us-- make it useful: Create your reign of unity now-- Your one desire then acts with ours, as in all light, so in all forms. Grant what we need each day in bread and insight. Loose the cords of mistakes binding us, as we release the strands we hold of others guilt. Don t let surface things delude us, But free us from what holds us back. From you is born all ruling will, the power and the life to do, the song that beautifies all, from age to age it renews. Truly--power to these statements-- may they be the ground from which all my actions grow: Amen. Ricardo: We recall the story from Luke, in which. 5

And their eyes were opened, And they recognized him in the breaking of the bread. 10. COMMUNION SONG: Ubi Caritas --Taize 11. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION: Oh, Creator God, God of dragonflies, hawks, and newborns All of creation reflects your spirit Help us stand in awe in front of each miracle Determined that we will treat it with respect We thank you that you make yourself known to us throughout the earth, and: 12. BLESSING: May God bless us and keep us. May God s face shine upon us. May God be gracious to us, and grant to us, and to all our broken world, peace. May the blessing of Almighty God, the Creator, the Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit, come upon us and remain with us forever. Amen. 14. FINAL SONG: City of God (#378) 15. PEACE. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TONY and LAURIE! 6
