1 7/1/2018 Isaiah 14: You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." 2 We ALL need to UNDERSTAND just HOW DEADLY SIN CAN BE!! PRIDE ANGER ENVY SLOTHFULNESS GREED GLUTTONY LUST Hebrews 12:1, Therefore, since we are SURROUNDED by such a GREAT CLOUD OF WITNESSES, to the LIFE OF FAITH, let us STRIP OFF EVERY WEIGHT that SLOWS US DOWN, especially, THE SIN that so EASILY HINDERS OUR PROGRESS, and let us RUN WITH ENDURANCE, the RACE that GOD has SET BEFORE US! PRIDE is a sin of TOO MUCH LOVE for one s SELF! 2

3 Isaiah 14:13 14, I WILL ASCEND TO HEAVEN; I WILL RAISE MY THRONE, ABOVE THE STARS OF GOD; I WILL SIT ENTHRONED ON THE MOUNT OF THE ASSEMBLY, ON THE UTMOST HEIGHTS OF THE SACRED MOUNTAIN. I WILL ASCEND ABOVE THE TOPS OF THE CLOUDS; I WILL MAKE MYSELF LIKE THE MOST HIGH. Genesis 3:1 5, Now the SERPENT was MORE CRAFTY than any of the WILD ANIMALS The Lord God had made! He said to the WOMAN, Did God REALLY SAY you must NOT EAT from ANY tree in the garden? The WOMAN said to the SERPENT, We MAY EAT FRUIT from the TREES in the garden, but God DID SAY you must NOT EAT FRUIT from the TREE that is in the MIDDLE of the garden, and you MUST NOT TOUCH IT, or you will DIE! You will NOT surely DIE, the SERPENT, said to the WOMAN, For GOD KNOWS that WHEN you EAT of IT, your EYES will be OPENED, and you will BE LIKE GOD; knowing GOOD and EVIL! Genesis 3:6 10, When the WOMAN SAW that the FRUIT of the tree was GOOD for FOOD and PLEASING to the EYE, and ALSO DESIRABLE for GAINING WISDOM, she TOOK some, and ATE it. She ALSO GAVE SOME to her HUSBAND, who was WITH HER, and HE ATE it. Then the EYES of BOTH of them were OPENED, and they REALIZED they were NAKED; so they SEWED fig leaves TOGETHER and made COVERINGS for themselves. Then the MAN and his WIFE heard the SOUND of The Lord GOD as He was WALKING in the GARDEN, in the COOL of the day, and they HID from THE LORD GOD among the TREES of the garden! 3

4 But The Lord GOD, called to the man, WHERE ARE YOU? He ANSWERED, I HEARD YOU in the garden, and I was AFRAID because I was NAKED; so I HID. LESSONS FROM THIS ONE PARAGRAPH OF SCRIPTURE: 1.) GOD DOESN T MISS A THING! 2.) GOD IS PASSIONATE (ANXIOUS) TO BE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH US! 3.) WE DO PRETEND THAT WE CAN HIDE FROM GOD! 4.) WE ARE ASHAMED OF THE WRONG THINGS, AND UNASHAMED OF THE THINGS THAT SHOULD BOTHER US! HOW does PRIDE (The Spiritual Cancer) AFFECT our RELATIONSHIP with God? 1.) Pride ERODES our INTEREST in WORSHIP. Psalm 138:6, Though THE LORD is ON HIGH, He looks upon the LOWLY, but the PROUD He knows from AFAR. 4

5 HOW does PRIDE (The Spiritual Cancer) AFFECT our RELATIONSHIP with God? 1.) Pride ERODES our INTEREST in WORSHIP. 2.) Pride will PRE OCCUPY your FOCUS in PRAYER. HOW does PRIDE (The Spiritual Cancer) AFFECT our RELATIONSHIP with God? 1.) Pride ERODES our INTEREST in WORSHIP. 2.) Pride will PRE OCCUPY your FOCUS in PRAYER. 3.) Pride LEADS US to DISENGAGE from MINISTRY. Matthew 20:26b, Whoever wants to BECOME GREAT among you, MUST be your SERVANT! HOW does PRIDE (The Spiritual Cancer) AFFECT our RELATIONSHIP with God? 1.) Pride ERODES our INTEREST in WORSHIP. 2.) Pride will PRE OCCUPY your FOCUS in PRAYER. 3.) Pride LEADS US to DISENGAGE from MINISTRY. 4.) Pride CAUSES US to FORGET GOD S WORKMANSHIP! To FORGET WHO S IN CHARGE, in ALL of life! 5

6 Deuteronomy 8:17 18a, 18a, You may say to yourself, MY POWER, and the strength of MY HANDS, have PRODUCED this WEALTH for me! But, REMEMBER The Lord your GOD; for it is HE Who GIVES you the ABILITY to PRODUCE WEALTH! Deuteronomy 8:19, If you EVER FORGET The Lord your GOD, and follow OTHER GODS, and WORSHIP THEM, I testify AGAINST YOU, today, that you will SURELY be DESTROYED! HOW does PRIDE (The Spiritual Cancer) IMPACT my RELATIONSHIP with OTHER PEOPLE? 1.) Pride ELEVATES US to a PLACE of SUPERIORITY in our own minds. Romans 12:3, For BY the GRACE given me, I say to EVERY ONE of you, do NOT think of YOURSELF more HIGHLY than you OUGHT, but, rather, think of YOURSELF with sober JUDGMENT, in ACCORDANCE with the MEASURE of FAITH, God has GIVEN you! HOW does PRIDE (The Spiritual Cancer) IMPACT my RELATIONSHIP with OTHER PEOPLE? 1.) Pride ELEVATES US to a PLACE of SUPERIORITY in our own minds. 2.) Pride SEPARATES US from OTHER RELATIONSHIPS. 6

7 Romans 12:16, Live in HARMONY with ONE ANOTHER. Do NOT be PROUD, but be WILLING to ASSOCIATE with people of LOW POSITION. Do NOT be CONCEITED! HOW does PRIDE (The Spiritual Cancer) IMPACT my RELATIONSHIP with OTHER PEOPLE? 1.) Pride ELEVATES US to a PLACE of SUPERIORITY in our own minds. 2.) Pride SEPARATES US from OTHER RELATIONSHIPS. 3.) Pride MANIPULATES OTHERS for PERSONAL GAIN. Philippians 2:3, Do NOTHING out of SELFISH AMBITIONS, or VAIN CONCEIT, but in HUMILITY, consider OTHERS better than YOURSELVES! Philippians 2:4, Each of you should look NOT ONLY to your OWN INTERESTS, but also the INTEREST of OTHERS! 1 st Peter 5: 5b 8, All of you clothe yourselves with humility for one another, because God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7

8 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self controlled and alert. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. HOW can we SURVIVE PRIDE? 1.) RECOGNIZE the PROBLEM! 2) 2.) CONFESS PRIDE for WHAT it IS! 3.) PRACTICE the DISCIPLINE of HUMILITY! First, WORSHIP! WORSHIP! WORSHIP! It s WILLFUL WORSHIP!! Secondly, PRAYERS have to be more GOD FOCUSED, than ME FOCUSED!! Thirdly, RE ENGAGE ENGAGE my life in MINISTRY to somebody else!! 8

9 LOOK INTO THE SPIRITUAL MIRROR Mirror, mirror, on the wall...what S going on INSIDE HERE? 9
