2 Expecting Transformation 9/25/16 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Cor 3:16-18 (NIV) There can be no renewal, revival or rebuilding without a vision for and an experience of the all-consuming, allilluminating presence of God. 3 Transformational Worship A transforming face to face encounter with the living God! Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We're free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him. 2 Cor 3:16-18 (The Message)

4 Transformational Worship Definitions (Relationship, Revelation, Response) Worship is the expression of a relationship in which God the Father reveals himself and his love in Christ, and by his Holy Spirit administers grace, to which we respond in faith, gratitude and obedience. (Justin Martyr) Worship is our response, both personal and corporate, to God for who He is, and what He has done; expressed in and by the things we say and the way we live. (Louie Giglio) The TC plans on seeing people drawn in before God s presence, experience His power, and be transformed by His grace. (Transformational Church)

5 Worship is an attitude of the heart in relationship with King Jesus 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24) To worship in the Spirit is only possible from a heart with the Holy Spirit in residence by forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ. The Kingdom is where the King is.

6 Worship is the surrender of all we are and all we have to the Lordship of King Jesus; bowing our hearts before God s throne Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1(NIV) your reasonable (rational) service. (NKJV) The Kingdom is where the King is. The idea of worship and service are intertwined. When a person bows to a king, he is acknowledging that all he has belongs to the king, including their service.

7 Worship is living in obedience, not just singing a worship song Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. 1 Samuel 15:22 Does the Lord delight in our church attendance and singing worship songs as much as us obeying His Word? While attending church and singing worship songs is important, to hear and obey His Word is much more important. Dan Hiatt paraphrase for today

8 Worship is giving God the honor and glory only He deserves 3 You shall have no other gods before me. 4 You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, Commandments 1 and 2 Exodus 20:3-4 God made man with the desire to worship. Man in the absence of the truth of God in their hearts will make their own gods, including themselves. True worship must be only to the true God.

9 Worship is expressing heartfelt adoration, praise, and thanks 18b Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Eph 5:19-20 Worship in psalms, hymns, and songs from the Holy Spirit. God created emotions and God created music. Music facilitates worshiping God with our heartfelt emotions.

10 Worship is a transforming face to face encounter with the living God 1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple 5 Woe to me! I cried. I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty. 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for. 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, Here am I. Send me! Isaiah 6:1-8

11 Transformational Worship is An attitude of the heart in relationship with King Jesus The surrender of all we are and all we have to the Lordship of King Jesus; bowing our hearts before God s throne Living in obedience, not just singing a worship song Giving God the honor and glory only He deserves Expressing heartfelt adoration, praise, and thanks A transforming face to face encounter with the living God Am I being changed in my worship experience? Which element of my worship needs to be strengthened?

12 Perfect worship in heaven around God s throne! Revelation 4 and 5 4 Creatures continually worship: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come. (Rev 4:8) 24 Elders: They give God glory, honor and thanks. They bow down and lay their crowns before God s throne saying You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being. (Rev 4:11) 4 Creatures, 24 Elders, Thousands of Angels, Every Creature: Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise! (Rev 5:13) Our worship today is to merge with the perfect continual worship in heaven!
