Glory News It is Handled! Joshua Campbell 3rd Quarter, 2017 While entering my senior year of college, I have noticed that my thoughts as of late have been very reflective of the experience. Even though my journey was met with many challenges, I would say that it has been a relatively successful journey. All of that said, I could not help but be reminded of how the last few years have been characterized by anxiousness in the context of relationships. This anxiousness, while not detrimental, proved to be distracting at times. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, anxiousness can be best defined as an uneasy state of mind usually over the possibility of an anticipated misfortune or trouble. The key word in the definition here is possibility, as every aspect of said definition is dependent on it. This definition can be further understood as displaced faith; faith that has been replaced. Anxiousness, at its core, concerns itself with what if s rather than what is. Pat s Kitchen, Pg 2 God s Purpose, Page 3, 6 Two Seekers, Page 4-5 Music News, Page 6 Remember Who s In Control, Page 7 Rhythm of Life, Page 8 How to Protect Your Eyes, Page 9-11 In Philippians 4, Paul speaks on how to handle this anxiousness. He states Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Phillippians 4:6-7). The moment that we cast our needs and concerns on Him, we are covered. He has officially taken hold of our plights. Our business is now handled. Why do we worry ourselves with that which is taken care of? Pastor Jerry Weinzierl of Grace Christian Church recently talked about how we are so concerned about how things are handled as opposed to who handled it. If the how in our situation is not resolved, we often respond with displeasure. Why? Because we do not know or understand the process behind our situation being handled. In an odd coincidence, I watched a sermon by Joel Osteen in which he used the phrase God s got this. In his sermon, he emphasized how we will not always figure out our issues, and that the best way to go about them is to Let go and Let God. Anxiousness should not have ANY hold when faith steps in. When you act on faith and allow God to take the lead, you have made a way for peace to enter your life. It is handled. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:9 (NIV)

God s Purpose Minister Rosalee Smith Glory, Page 3 Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. He created all of us with a purpose in His mind. We were created for His glory. God knew us before we were even created in our mother s womb. God created a plan of salvation for mankind to surrender all our thoughts and renew our minds as unto Christ. This helps others get into the kingdom to gain eternal life with our dear Father, through the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by way of the cross. Let s look at one of the people who were chosen by God. The book of Jonah only has 4 chapters; Jonah was the son of Amittai. Jonah was a prophet of God, which means God would speak to His prophets and they would communicate it back to the people. Now we are able to communicate with God for ourselves. In Jonah 1:2, the word came to Jonah from the Lord. Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before me. Jonah, being filled with pride in being a Hebrew, thinking he was better than others, as most of the Hebrews did in that time, rose up in stubbornness, rebellion, and disobedience in his flesh, speaking out and looking down on the Ninevites as pagan people. God s purpose is to use those He chose to help save others through Jesus Christ, who died for all mankind. Jonah, being so filled with his own flesh, clearly did not see the entire plan God had for the Ninevites. So Jonah decided to go to Tarshish by way of Joppa, running away from the presence of God, His purpose and the plans for the city of Nineveh. Sometimes we do forget and think our way is the best way. Jonah entered a ship where he went to the lowest part and went to sleep. Because of Jonah s rebellion the Lord sent a great storm on the sea. The storm was so severe that the captain was afraid, and commanded everyone on board to pray to their god that their life may be spared. Then they discovered Jonah asleep and inquired about him. Jonah confessed his rebellion and his disobedience to the captain and the crew about the word of the Lord. In order to save the life of others, the captain and the crew decided to throw Jonah over into the sea. However, our Heavenly Father, knew what Jonah would do. God caused a whale to swallow up Jonah. Jonah stayed in the belly of the whale three days and three nights just as the Son of man would stay three days and three nights in the heart of the Earth. Can you imagine being in the belly of a whale three days and three nights? In chapter 2, Jonah begins to explain his failures to the Lord and begins to pray to the Lord from the belly of the whale. Verse 9 but I will sacrifice to you with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord. So the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. In chapter 3, Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying Arise go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you. (Continued on Page 6)

Two Seekers Pastor Marcella Trammer Glory, Page 4 God is seeking worshippers. He s not seeking people who will go through a ritual. It s not people who are proven experts on a subject. He s looking for people who understand what worship really is. Let me give you a definition of what worship is. The first is that worship begins with the willingness and readiness to honor God according to His worthiness. Worship is to ascribe worth. It s to recognize first that we are created beings and there is a Creator. It s to recognize that we are sinners and we do need a Savior. None of us is sufficient in ourselves. It's the acknowledgement of people who have come to recognize that none of us are adequate in ourselves no matter how we try to prove it or press the point. It s acknowledging, Lord, You are greater than me. It s not just to knock on the door and say, Hey, Lord, I could use You right now. And then I pursue my own way as though He isn t there until I need Him next time. So worship has to do with the pathway of life. The Bible says God wants people who will worship Him in Spirit and truth. Using the Samaritan woman (John 4) to gain understanding, people will often look at this text as a case study of a woman who was more needy than we are, and since we have come to know the Lord, we re not as needy any more. But we can see ourselves in this woman s circumstance because there are very real ways in which situations happen to all of us; just maybe not today. What does worshipping in Spirit and truth mean? We ve heard many times, Spirit means you have to be born again, so you need to be alive spiritually, and truth means you have to understand the Bible s requirements if you re going to worship according to the pattern the Word of God shows. You must know God in order to worship Him. If a person doesn t acknowledge Him, to whom is there worship directed? Even so, there s still more to it. For those of us that know the Lord, we can think, I ve been born again, and I m Bible trained so this automatically makes me a really vital worshipper. It certainly makes me one who is capable of touching relationship with the living God because I have accepted Him. But that doesn t necessarily guarantee that I am going to be consistently sustaining the humility, availability, and the childlikeness that makes a true worshipper. Let s take spirit and truth into what is also incorporated in the meaning. The first is spirit in terms of passion that quest and hunger I want the Lord. It s not just a matter of saying, Well, I m here to observe whatever happens. I ve had a tough week so keep me interested if you can. It is true that life is wearying, and demands on us are real. But when we come to worship the Lord, our minds should come with a truth about Him and His heart toward us that will ready us to be the kind of people who really do become continuously faithful and confident that this is the moment I need as well; as the moment He is ready to meet me where I am. (Continued on Page 5)

Two Seekers (Continued from Page 4) Pastor Marcella Trammer Glory, Page 5 Come in truth. Lord, there s no pretense here today. I m not faking it. And I m not too cool for this. Or, I really feel inadequate before God today because of the way things have gone this week things I have said, done, acted and I m not even certain it s right for me to just jump into this. Truth is just to come and lay it all out before Him, openly, knowing that in Your grace, I m not taking it lightly or presuming anything, but I need You and I want You. Jesus said to the Samaritan woman, If you knew the gift of God and who it is that says to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water. Jesus is describing worship and what God is looking for. He says, The Father is seeking people who are seeking Him. If you knew! One of the most amazing things about worship is that the One who deserves it who sits on the Heaven-side of things could say, This is where I am. I am in charge. I made everything. I m bigger than all of you. If you want anything, come to Me. That would be generous enough. But the Bible says the eyes of the Lord go to and fro throughout the whole earth, looking for those whose hearts are inclined toward Him. He doesn t impose Himself; He exposes Himself -- to the rejection of people, blinded to the depth and richness of His love and the greatness of His person. He s looking for rejected people, thirsty people, worried people -- people like you and me! You never can really worship God if you don t know who He is. And who He is has to do with circumstances. Not just He s the Creator and gave His Son Jesus as the Savior of the world. That s fundamental and basic. But I m talking about maintaining a freshness in our walk and our availability to Him, as our knowledge and relationship with Him grows. Do we know Him? Jesus said, If you knew the gift of God. That word is just loaded. Every time we come to worship there is a fresh availability of outpouring from Him. You get a gift and you get expectant. If you knew the gift of God, you would expect more. The woman said to Him, We know that when Messiah comes He s going to tell us all things. Can you imagine being there, seated at that well, talking to the Savior and not knowing entirely who He is? She already knows about the Messiah. She just didn t know He had come. He looked at her in that moment and said, Lady, the one who is speaking to you is Him. I am Messiah. She took that and went into town and told everybody. This is the Christ. A lot of people in Samaria came to the Lord because of her. The outflow of the worshipper s life will touch other people. It becomes a test of my worship life as to whether anything else is being impacted. Worship is not escapism; it's an entry. You come into the presence of the One who is larger than life. It doesn't deny reality, but exceeds it with His splendor, love, and grace. And He s looking for you first.

Rosalee Smith (continued from Page 3) What do you think happened the second time for Jonah? After a three day journey, Jonah entered the city and on the very first day Jonah cried out, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them. The city turned from their evil ways and was restored back to the Lord. In conclusion, one man held the entire city in his hands with a word from the Lord. Out of Jonah s rebellion, the entire lives on the ship and the city of Nineveh would have been destroyed. Due to Jonah s obedience the entire ship and city of Nineveh was restored to the Lord. What is your purpose? What has God planned for your life? Who is involved? God s plan for us is eternal life unto salvation with Him. Well if you don t know, ask God. Your life and others lives depend on our response to God s plan and purpose. It is better to obey God than man. Acts 5:29.

Remember Who s In Control Minister Helene McKithen Glory, Page 7 These days things look pretty bleak in the world. There are wars and rumors of wars, terrorist attacks all over the world, including Charlottesville, Virginia, children raising up against their parents, police brutality, and senseless black on black crime. We even have a man sitting in the office as POTUS, whom some might believe is the Anti-Christ, which seems like a nightmare. We should not be surprised about the current state of this world nor this country. The Bible has been telling us about it all along. These events were foretold a long time ago, and we should not be taken by surprise. God s word is true and will last even until the end of this world. Mark 13: 7-8 (NIV) states: When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places and famines. These are all the beginning of birth pains. Matthew 24:10-14 NIV: At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved, And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. It may seem like a bad dream or something, and you wish that you could just wake up from this nightmare, but this is the world we live in. Yes, I know we are in this world but not of it! Yet, since we are here, and let s be honest, it is going to get worse. But we as believers have the assurance of God s promises. Regardless of what is going on in this world, we know that God is with us always. Our church confession, Isaiah 43:1-6 tells us that God will always be with us. It is left up to us to believe it and rest in the knowledge that God s Word is true. He told us in Joshua 1:5 that He will never leave us nor forsake us. No matter what is going on in this world, God has us! He is holding each and every one of us in the palm of His hand. He told us in Psalm 91:7 that a thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you! Don t get it twisted. We will go through trials and tribulation, but He is always with us. Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit to comfort us and guide us through any storm. Remember that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28 NKJV). It doesn t matter who is in office nor does it matter what s going on in this world, just remember that God is in control. Keeping your focus is crucial during these difficult times. Learn to turn off the television and not view social media sometimes. No one is saying to live like a hermit, but reading God s Word on a daily basis is essential to the believer s life. God s Word will strengthen you and calm your fears. It will encourage you and increase your faith. So remember that the Lord knows the thoughts that He thinks toward you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope!

Rhythm of Life Minister Sherry Holt-Campbell Glory, Page 8 Have you found your rhythm to living life? How do you cope with the struggles of everyday quandries, decisions, choices and obstacles? Have you ever taken the time to stop and ponder exactly what are you doing for the day? If you are like most people, you awake very early in the morning and either lay awake, or while sitting on the side of bed, you start to plan out all of your day s activities. There is a secret to finding your rhythm of life for that day and all of the days of your life. If you live everyday with passion and purpose, you can become the best version of the person you were meant to be. Jeremiah 29:11 says For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. While we are planning out our day, the Lord already has a plan for you. I have found that if you take the time to spend time with the Father first thing in the morning, the time table for your day s activities will be set with one purpose in mind. If you ask the Father for His plan for the day, He will orchestrate the activities for you. He will reveal your purpose for that day. Your job will be to do everything that you put your hand to do with excellence as if you were doing it for your Father. Colossians 3:23(ESV) states that Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. What happens when we ask for God s purpose in our lives everyday? How does our gifting prosper in our life? Proverbs 22:29 (AMP) says: Do you see a man skillful and experienced in his work? He will stand (in honor) before kings; and He will not stand before obscure men. So you see there is a rhythm in life that we must follow. That rhythm requires that we seek and consult our creator each and everyday. He never grows tired of hearing our voices. He desires to be present in every moment of our lives. Galatians 6:9 says, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. What kind of harvest has God planned for you? How can you get to the harvest if you do not first put the seed to work, wait for the proper time and then you will reap the harvest. Seed, Time, and then Harvest; it s a rhythm just as every day we wake, seek, and invite Him into our day. What is your rhythm?

How to Protect Your Eyes Brittany Trammer Glory, Page 9 This summer, America experienced its first total solar eclipse in 38 years! I love to watch God work and see all of His marvelous works through science. In the weeks and days leading up to the solar eclipse of 2017, there were several special reports and warnings about the importance of eye safety. It was stressed time and time again to either wear protective eyewear or to not look directly into the sun (or eclipse) during that day. It is never safe to look directly at the sun's rays, even if the sun is partly obscured. Staring at the sun for even 20 seconds or more could cause permanent damage. There had been several reports of people from the last eclipse that experienced eye damage because they did not take heed to the warnings or were misinformed. For this reason, learning more about eye safety and protecting your eyes from such things as UV rays is of such importance. Below is a great depiction and breakdown of why and how to protect your eyes, not only in the summer months but throughout the entire year.
