1 Advanced Placement World History Summer Assignment 2018 The AP World History Summer Assignment is a tool by which you will be getting a jumpstart on the school year. This summer, you will read Chapters 1, 2, & 3 in the AP World History Textbook, The Earth & Its Peoples, 5 th Edition. We will be using the 6 th AP Edition of the textbook in class. These chapters are identical. As you read, you will take notes, by hand, on study/review sheets that you will download from Mr. Salba s AP World History OneNote. These hand-written notes will be turned in for three Minor Assessment grades on August 13 th (the second Monday of the school year). You will be given a Multiple Choice Major Assessment test over the material in Chapters 1, 2, & 3. The tests in APWH are detailed and require a careful reading of the textbook. This is not the type of assignment that you will be able to be successful with if you wait until the last minute. The test will be given in one class period and will count as your first Major Assessment grade. It will consist of between 70 and 80 multiple choice questions. The purpose of this year s assignment is to give you a chance to spend time on content that we have always had to rush through. It is important that you complete the assignment on the due dates. Failure to do so will put you behind early in the school year. Step 1 Visit Mr. Salba s APWH OneNote or the Chattahoochee H.S. AP Summer Assignment Page (link to Mr. Salba s OneNote Page) Or go to your school (@fultonschools.org) and follow the link. If you signed up for AP World during enrollment, you should have a link in your inbox. Step 2 Download the PDF chapters and study guides Chapters 1, 2, & 3 are available in PDF format (Chapter 1 / Chapter 2 / Chapter 3) o This is the easiest and most efficient way to get the chapters for the summer. The Study Guides are posted on Mr. Salba s AP World History OneNote for you to download. o Chapter 1 / Chapter 2 / Chapter 3 o There are AP U.S. History samples for you to examine. These are similar to the APWH study guides and may help to guide your note taking over the summer. Step 3 Read the Chapters & Take Notes. Do not wait until school starts to begin. You will not be able to complete the assignment with the necessary detail in the first week of school. The study guides have terms from the chapters on them. You should fill out the study guides with information relating to each term. o Definition Dates location o Importance o Connections to other places Step 4 Turn in your Chapter Study Guides on Monday, August 13 th THESE MUST BE COMPLETED BY HAND. TYPED SHEETS WILL BE RETURNED WITH A GRADE OF ZERO (0) You can ask to have one Chapter s notes perused for pointers. o You must ask for this by Wednesday before or after school. Step 5 Take the Chapter 1, 2, & 3 Test Monday, August 13 th in class There will be a take home essay to accompany the first unit. Be Advised: we will also have 5-6 morning essays at 7am throughout the school year.
