3 Plagues of Egypt Preschool Lesson, Part 1, Week 4, p.1 Review of Moses Bible Stories: (Moses and Aaron puppets) Last week we heard the true Bible story of how God talked to Moses from the burning bush. God told Moses to lead the Israelite people out of Egypt. The Israelites were slaves. Slaves worked hard for very little pay. They were treated very badly and beat up by their mean slave masters, who were in charge over them. (Make a mean face) R-r-r-r-! Moses obeyed God. He went to Pharaoh, the King of Egypt, with his brother Aaron. They told Pharaoh, God says, Let my people go, so they can worship me in the desert! But Pharaoh was mean too! He answered, I don't know your God, and I won't let you go! Then Pharaoh got even meaner! (Make a mean face). R-r-r-r-! He and the slave masters treated the Israelites even worse than before! Now God would do mighty acts so that Pharaoh would let them go. Moses and his brother Aaron went to Pharaoh again. Aaron threw down his staff. (Throw down staff on table). Do you remember what it turned into last week? (Let children answer). Right! It became a snake! (Replace staff with snake). But Pharaoh s men also did the same miracle using their evil powers. And Pharaoh was in charge, and he said the people still could not go! Now God would do ten miracles to show everyone who was really in charge. Bible Sticker Play Activity: Egyptian Child and Israelite Child (Hold up Egyptian and Israelite Children). We ll use these pictures of children see what happened to the Egyptians, who lived in the land of Egypt, (Point to Egyptian child), and to the Israelites, who lived nearby in the land of Goshen. The Israelites were God s people. (Point to Israelite child). We ll get to see the miracles that God did right up close! God told Moses and Aaron to follow Pharaoh down to the Nile river, so off they went. When they got there, Aaron told Pharaoh, God said, LET MY PEOPLE GO! But Pharaoh was stubborn. He said, NO, I WON T! NO! 1. Blood. (Place blood stickers on Egyptian Child or Israelite Child pictures when indicated). Aaron raised his staff, just like God said. (Place red paper strip over E. and I. Child pictures). God did a mighty act. The water turned red! (Let children add water/blood droplets to pictures). Look what happened! All the fish were dead! (Let child place dead fish on Egyptian Child picture). It smelled so bad. It really stunk! (Hold your nose). There was no water they could ve drunk! (Add glass/jug pictures). Along the river, the Egyptians dug. (Pretend to dig). Now they had water. Chug-a-lug! (Pretend to drink). Pharaoh s men did the same miracle using their evil powers. So, I think the Israelites water turned red too. (Place the blood pictures on the Israelite Child picture). That was the first plague. (Hold up 1 finger). How many am I holding up? ONE. (Point to Blood picture on Plagues Chart. Remove stickers). A week later Moses and Aaron went back to Pharaoh and did everything that God told them to do. Aaron told Pharaoh, God says, LET MY PEOPLE GO! If you don t, I will send a plague of frogs! Can you guess what Pharaoh said? (Let children join in). NO, I WON T! NO! So Aaron lifted up his staff. (Lift up hand). 2. Frogs. (Let children stick the frog stickers on the Egyptian Child picture as you read rhyme). Up from the streams came frogs that jump! You know the little green creatures with bumps! They came into Egyptian s houses, and into their beds! They leaped into ovens, and onto their heads. (Place hands on head). They jumped into their food, into their dough! Look out! Don t squish them with your toes! (Point to feet).

4 Plagues of Egypt Preschool Lesson, Part 1, Week 4, p.2 Once again, Pharaoh s men did the same miracle using their evil powers. Now there were frogs everywhere! A few frogs probably hopped over to the land of Goshen where the Israelites lived. (Let children stick some frogs on the Israelite Child picture). So Pharaoh told Moses, Pray and ask God to take the frogs away! Then I ll let your people go. So the next day, Moses prayed. All the frogs died, and were taken away. (Remove frog stickers). Let's count the plagues together. (Point to plague pictures on Chart as you count). ONE, TWO! But do you know what Pharaoh did? He changed his mind, and he would NOT let the people go! Next God sent a plague of gnats! Do you know what gnats are? They re annoying little bugs. Here s what happened: 3. Gnats. (Let children stick gnats onto the Egyptian Child picture as you read rhyme). Aaron struck the ground with his long, skinny staff. Out of the dust came millions of gnats! They came up on the people and animals too! So many gnats! Now what would they do? Maybe a few flew over here to the Israelites, since they lived close by. (Place 2 gnats on the I Child picture). But when Pharaoh's men tried to do the same miracle, they could not do it! So they knew it was God who made the gnats come. But Pharaoh would still not listen! (Remove gnat stickers. Now let's count the plagues. Point to plagues on Chart as you count). ONE, TWO, THREE! Once again Moses and Aaron went back to Pharaoh and warned him: Another plague would come if he would not let the people go. But this time, God would protect the Israelites! He would NOT send the plague on his people! But when Aaron told Pharaoh that God said, LET MY PEOPLE GO! Pharaoh said Can you say it with me? NO, I WON T, NO! 4. Flies. (Let children stick flies onto the Egyptian Child picture as you read rhyme). Thousands of flies swarmed into the land! All this happened just as God planned. Flies were everywhere! It was so sad! Because Pharaoh acted so proud and so mad, The whole land of Egypt was ruined by flies. (Whisper) But no fly was found in Goshen, surprise! (Point to Israelite Child). The Israelites were so happy! They weren t being bothered by those icky flies! But the Egyptians were very upset, and Pharaoh was too! He told Moses, now he would let the people go a little ways into the desert. So the next day, Moses prayed, and God took away the flies. (Remove fly stickers). Let s count the plagues again. (Count as you point to each plague on Chart). ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR! But once again, Pharaoh changed his mind and would not let the people go! When will that Pharaoh guy ever learn that God is powerful? He rules over everything! He has the power to do whatever he wants to do! 5. Livestock. (Let children stick the E and I animals stickers on pictures, respectively, as you read). Pharaoh would not listen, even after that! Now God would do another mighty act! A plague came upon the Egyptians donkeys and cows. (Let child stick sick animals on E Child pic). The poor little creatures got sick oh, wow. Their horses, and camels, little lambs too. (Whisper) But the Israelites animals were just fine! Whew! (Let child stick happy animals on I Child picture).

5 Plagues of Egypt Preschool Lesson, Part 1, Week 4, p.3 We ll get rid of the animals. (Remove animal stickers). Let s count the plagues now! (Point to each plague on the Chart as you count). ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE! But, Pharaoh s heart was as stubborn as ever! When will that Pharaoh guy listen -- Never? Later the Lord explained to Moses why he did all those mighty acts. He wanted Moses to be able to tell his children and grandchildren of his great power, so they would know that HE IS THE LORD! I bet some of the grandchildren were 4 or 5 years old, just like you! God wanted the children to know of his great power too! There are lots more plagues that God sends on the Egyptians! We ll save those for next week. Right now, let s have a snack, and talk about God! Then we have some crafts and experience some pretend plagues right up close! Does that sound like fun? Let Me Share Talk Time: One of God s Names: El Elyon Let s talk about the story. It s a true story from the Bible. It really happened! God told Moses that he was doing all these great acts the flies and gnats and frogs and blood because he wanted Moses and the Israelites to tell their children of his great power. God wanted them to know that He is the Lord! He wanted to make sure that the children knew too! We ve been learning some of the names that God calls himself. You each have a name, and some of you have another name, a nickname, too. Do any of you have a nickname that you want to share with the class? (Encourage children to tell their nicknames. Give an example of someone s name and nickname). God has more than one name too. One of the names of God is El Elyon. It means that GOD IS THE LORD! It means God is in charge! He rules over everyone and everything! Only God has the power to do whatever he wants to do! When God did all those mighty acts, he was showing Pharaoh, and all the people that he rules over everything, and that HE IS THE LORD! In Isaiah 45:5 God says, (Read Isaiah 45:5). There is no one else like God! He is the most powerful one! And he is the one who loves us best! He is the one who deserves our praise! Psalm 105 says (Read Psalm 105:5a). God wants us to remember his great power! He is the Lord who rules over all, and he wants to be our Lord because he loves us so much! He knows what s best for us, and cares for us more than anyone! He wants us to love and worship him, and do everything he says, just like Moses and Aaron did. So let s remember God great power! And, let s remember to worship him always because HE IS THE LORD who deserves our praise! Prayer Sample: (This is just an example of what you could say. Listen to the Holy Spirit and say the words he gives you). Allow the children to pray afterwards if they wish to. Let Me Pray Prayer Time Dear God, Thank you for being our great God who has the power to do anything! Thank you for showing us your great power! Thank you for loving us so much! Help us to remember all your mighty acts, your great power and your great love! In Jesus name.

Moses, Aaron Aaron Pharaoh Aaron Moses Assistants Pharaoh Moses Assistant Let s see what Pharaoh does now. (Go back to Pharaoh. Moses whispers to Aaron). (To Pharaoh). God says another plague will come if you do not let my people go. But this time, I will protect the Israelites! I will NOT send this plague on my people! LET MY PEOPLE GO! (To children): Can you guess what Pharaoh said? (Encourage children to say it with him). NO, I WON T! NO! Aaron raised his staff, just like God said. (Raises staff). Look out! Here comes the plague! Thousands of flies swarmed into the land! All this happened just as God planned. (Throw Fly Glider Bugs or black yuk balls into circle of Egyptian kids. Encourage children to swat the flies away). Flies were everywhere! It was so sad! Because Pharaoh acted so proud and so mad. The whole land of Egypt was ruined by flies. (Whisper) But no fly was found in Goshen, surprise! (Point to Israelite kids circle). The Israelites were so happy! They weren t being bothered by those icky flies! But the Egyptians were very upset, and Pharaoh was too! Ok, O.K! Now I will let your people go a little ways into the desert, but not very far. So, the next day, Moses prayed, and God took away the flies. (Gets on hands and knees, clasps hands together and prays). Lord, please take the flies away. We know you are able to do anything! God took away the flies. (Encourage kids to help toss flies into the basket. Take baskets away). (Encourage kids to help you clean up the animals and take them away in baskets).

14 Plagues of Egypt Classroom Activities and Skit, Part 1, Week 4, p.4 Scene VI Plague 5 Disease of Livestock, cont d But, Pharaoh s heart was as stubborn as ever! When will that Pharaoh guy listen -- Never? Later the Lord explained to Moses why he did all those mighty acts. He wanted Moses to be able to tell his children and grandchildren of his great power, so they would know that HE IS THE LORD! I bet some of the grandchildren were about your age! God wanted the children to know of his great power too! (Point to both groups of children). Assistant There are lots more plagues that God sends on the Egyptians! We ll save those for next week. Now we have some crafts to make. Continue with Talk Time and other Activities and Crafts
