4 Connecting with Bible Content in minutes As children play in Bible-learning activities, tell the Bible story for them to hear. Lead boys and girls to know God planned for Jesus birth and people told about God s plan. Build a House Center: Blocks Isaiah wrote about God s plan to send Jesus. Materials: Bible, Kindergarten Connection weekly pages, Blueprint (pack item 17), crayons, wooden blocks > > Show children the blueprint. Explain: Blueprints are a special type of plan that builders use to make a house. As the children build a house, talk with them about God s plan for Jesus birth. > > Say: God told Isaiah about His plan for Jesus birth. Isaiah wrote down God s plan. Review the Bible story. > > Guide children to follow the number key to complete the stained glass window on the Kindergarten Connection weekly page. Help each child identify the letters in the window. Point to the word again and have them read it. Remark: You just read the word Jesus. >> KID Connection Read the Bible verse. Say: Isaiah told about God s plan to send someone. Who would God send? (Jesus) Make a Scroll Center: Creative Art Isaiah wrote on a scroll about God s plan for Jesus birth. Materials: Bible, Teaching Picture (pack item 1), Bible Markers (pack item 15a), crayons, markers, stickers, half sheets of white paper, craft sticks, glue > > As children arrive, show them how to glue a craft stick along each short end of a half sheet of paper. Ask: How could you make this look like a scroll? Help as needed as the children roll each end of the scroll toward the center of the paper. Refer to the teaching picture and tell the Bible story as children work. > > Provide time for children to decorate their scrolls. Offer to print the Bible verse on each child s scroll. Some children may want to look at the Bible marker and print the verse themselves. >> Kid Connection Say the Bible verse, God will send a child to be born. Isaiah 7:14. Ask: Who wrote these words? (Isaiah) Who were they about? (Jesus) Create a Hand Pointer Center: Creative Art, Dramatic Play Isaiah said, Send me, God. I will go. Materials: Bible, Bible Word Card: message (pack item 14a-d), paint sticks, pencils, markers, heavyweight paper, scissors, glue, tape, stickers > > When children arrive, show them the Bible word card message and explain the meaning. Tell them Isaiah heard God say, Who will I send to tell people My message? Isaiah said, Send me, God. I will go. > > Guide children to trace their hands on a sheet of heavyweight paper. Ask them to print I Will Go on their paper hands. Each child will decorate his paper hand using crayons, markers, stickers or other art supplies. Guide each child as he cuts out the traced hand, then tapes or glues it to one end of a paint stick. He may decorate the stick. > > As children work, tell the Bible story. As children finish, show them how they can take turns role-playing part of the story. One child asks Who can I send? The other children raise their pointers and say, I will go. >> KID Connection Say: Isaiah said, I will go. He told about God s plan for Jesus to be born. W e e k o f D e c e m b e r 5 11
5 Connecting with Bible Content in Learning Center Activities continued Make a Pattern Center: Puzzles and Manipulatives God told Isaiah about His plan to send Jesus. Materials: Bible, Bible Word Card: plan (pack item 14a-d), Music and More CD, CD player, various colored strips of construction paper, markers, crayons, stickers, tape or stapler > > Before class, make a sample chain of construction paper strips that demonstrates a simple pattern such as red, blue, red, blue. Make a loop by stapling or taping the two ends of one strip together. Add another strip to create a link through the first loop and repeat to make a chain. > > Guide the children to look at the Bible word card plan. Explain the meaning. > > Play and sing Isaiah Told About Jesus (track 1). > > Invite children to choose strips to create their own simple patterns. Suggest children use the markers, crayons, and stickers to decorate the strips of paper before making a chain. Note: Some children will want to make a short chain; others, a long one. Do not require kindergartners to make the same pattern you demonstrated. > > As children work, tell the Bible story. >> KID Connection Talk about the meaning of the word plan. Say: You planned a pattern. In our Bible story, Isaiah tells us about a very special plan from God that was about the birth of Jesus. Print in Sand Center: Nature and Science Isaiah wrote God s message about Jesus birth. Materials: Bible, Bible Markers (CD), tub of sanitized play sand, shower curtain, craft sticks, glue, half sheets of paper (one per child) with JESUS printed in large uppercase letters, crayons, five small rocks (each printed with a letter from JESUS) > > Place the tub of sand on top of the shower curtain. Suggest children experiment printing with their fingers and then with craft sticks. > > Show children the rocks with the letters from the word JESUS printed on them. Encourage one child to hide the rocks in the sand. Invite a friend to find the rocks. Children can work together to arrange the rocks to spell JESUS. > > Read the word JESUS on the half sheet of paper. Tell the Bible story. > > Children can trace the word with glue and sprinkle it with sand. Children may also want to decorate their papers. >> KID Connection Read the Bible verse and say: Isaiah told about God s plan. Bonus Ideas Complete Bible Verse Puzzles Print the Bible Marker (CD). Print the Bible verse on several sheets of heavyweight paper and cut into puzzles. Place each puzzle in a paper sack. Display the Bible verse marker and invite two children to take a sack and work the puzzle together. Listen to Music and Print Letters Print copies (one per child) of the Bible Marker (CD). Provide paper and markers for each child. Encourage children to look at their Bible markers and print letters from the verse on their papers. Play music as they work. Children may enjoy printing other letters they know. The Music and More Enhanced CD The Music and More for Kindergarten Bible Teaching for Kids CD offers a wealth of classroom resources and songs. * Take time to review the Teaching and Ministry files as well as the special monthly classroom selections. Download CD-ROM items for each week s activities prior to the session. If you do not want to print the files in color, check your printer instructions for help on printing files in black and white. * Preview the songs before each session. Kindergarten songs support the biblical life application for each session. Take time to learn the movement songs. Brain research recommends the use of movement activities to aid in the processing of new material. See article on page minutes Help the children learn responsibility and care of the church through cleanup. Play Winter Whimsy (track 18) as children clean up. Challenge them to finish cleaning and find a seat in group time before the song ends. 1 2 K i n d e r g a r t e n L e a d e r G u i d e
6 Connecting with Bible Truths in minutes Isaiah Told About Jesus Isaiah 1:1; 6:1,8; 7:14; 9:6-7; 11:1-5 Engage children in Group Time. Materials: Bible; Teaching Picture (pack item 1); Bible Word Cards: plan, message (pack item 14a-d); Bible Marker (pack item 15a); Music and More CD; CD player, paper towel roll or megaphone Prepare. Gather and prepare materials for group time. Sing together. Play Smile (track 13). Lead children in the motions of the song. Hear Bible truths. When children are seated, show them the word cards plan and message and review the meanings. Ask the girls to raise their hands each time they hear plan in the story and the boys when they hear message. Open your Bible to Isaiah and tell the Bible story in your own words. Bible Story Isaiah lived near Jerusalem in the country of Judah. Isaiah heard God ask, Who will I send to tell people My message? Isaiah said, Send me, God. I will go. Isaiah became a prophet. A prophet tells people what God wants them to know. God had a plan. God chose Isaiah to tell the people some wonderful news. Isaiah wrote down what God told him. Isaiah wrote that a young woman would have a special baby boy. The special baby would be God s Son. The baby would be Jesus. God s message to Isaiah helped the people know that Jesus would love all people. Jesus would help people understand more about God. He would grow into a man. He would be wise. He would help people know and love God. He would always do what is right and would help people. Isaiah wrote the words in a Bible scroll. People who heard or read the words on the Bible scroll knew that God was planning to send His Son, Jesus. Know Bible truths. Show the children the teaching picture. Ask for a volunteer to recall one fact she remembers from the story. Allow her to tell the fact, using the megaphone or paper towel roll. Continue with other children. When the story has been reviewed, ask: What was God s message to Isaiah? Show the Bible marker and say the Bible verse together several times. Do Bible truths. Children will do (live) the Bible truth as they remember God planned for Jesus birth and Isaiah told people about God s plan. Say: Let s try a chant that will help us remember this Bible truth. Guide half of the children to stand and recite: God planned for Jesus birth. Guide the other half of the children to stand and announce: And Isaiah told people about God s plan. Repeat several times. Play a musical game. Play the song Isaiah Told About Jesus (track 1). Stop the music and invite a child to help you find the Book of Isaiah in the Old Testament. Point to the word Isaiah. Invite her to read the word. Continue the song and repeat this with several other volunteers. >> Family Connection Send home the Parent for December and the Kindergarten Connection weekly pages. Send a Winter Postcard (pack item 28a-d) to children who have been absent. If you have limited time or teaching staff and need a Quick Plan, include these activities to achieve today s Bible teaching and life application at group time. W e e k o f D e c e m b e r 5 13
