Overnight: Flight Day Two: Sunday, February 18, 2018 ARRIVAL Individual arrivals to Ben Gurion Airport. Transfer to the hotel on your own. Check into hotel and free time to rest and acclimate. (Official check-in is at 3 p.m., if your room isn't available upon arrival you can leave your luggage with the concierge.) 7:30 p.m. Meet in the hotel lobby. 2 Day Three: Monday, February 19, 2018 FOUNDATIONS OF A CITY AND STATE 9:00 a.m. Visit Independence Hall, where David Ben-Gurion proclaimed the State of Israel on May 14th, :00 a.m. Dialogue with Time at the Holon Museum. The main goals of the "Dialogue with Time" project are to create intergenerational dialogue and to change preconceived notions about older adults and aging. The tour is a continuous series of moving, entertaining and challenging situations, and is led by guides both men and women aged 70 and over. The intensity of the experience in the exhibit and the emotional identification created succeed in crossing the years that separate generations and in bringing young people into close contact with the experiences of elders in Israel generally, and of their personal family members specifically. Lunch on own en route. 2:00 p.m. Opening program: Aging in Israel: Challenges and Opportunities. Meet Jenny Brodsky, Director of the Center for Research on Aging at the Myers-JDC- Brookdale Institute. Under the auspices of the relevant government ministries, JDC- ESHEL brings together prominent stakeholders and professionals involved in the care of Israel's older citizens in order to plan and initiate pilot projects relevant to the older adults. JDC-ESHEL offers an instructive example of how a nationally based NGO can play a major role in the planning and development of relevant services for older people, via the leverage produced through its relatively modest budget. 3:00 p.m. Aging in Israel: Gaps, Inequalities, and Advocacy: Dr. Mickey Schindler, attorney, Yad Riva Legal Aid Clinic for the Elderly of Yad Sarah, one of Israel s most influential leaders in advocacy on legal issues in aging, including supported decisionmaking as an alternative to guardianship for impaired elders. 5:00 p.m. Cross-cultural caregiving in Israel: the Filipino experience. Meet with Winston Santos, president of Filipinos in Israel, and other Filipinos employed as caregivers and social workers. Learn about this fascinating cross-cultural caregiving with frail elders. 6:30 p.m. Opening the Closet Doors- Aging in the LGBTQ community. Meet with Dr. Ruti Litwin, a psychotherapist and gerontologist, discussing aging and the LGBTQ community in the Israeli context. Free Evening in Tel Aviv for an opportunity to: Stroll down Rothschild Boulevard, with its many cafés and bars. Experience Tel Aviv Port, with its restaurants and clubs. Explore the gentrified Neve Zedek neighborhood. Saunter down the Tel Aviv Beach Promenade. Wander through the Tachana, Tel Aviv s renovated old train station, now a center of boutiques and good food, and one of Tel Aviv s blooming hot spots. Enjoy dinner on your own at Sarona Market. Through the smells, flavors and tastes of this newly renovated buildings of this historical Templar village,

3 explore a range of options, from local street food to fine dining by renowned Israeli chefs. Overnight: Tal Hotel, Tel Aviv Day Four: Tuesday, February 20, 2018 TO THE NORTH Breakfast at the hotel; Check out of the hotel. 8:00 a.m. depart hotel Innovation in Long-term Care: Visit Ahuzat Poleg, an eldercare community in Netanya undergoing culture change, including dialogue with staff and residents. Hear from Tamar Dashefsky, coordinator of Israeli culture change movement and Naomi Rubinstein on models and research findings on the impact of transformational care models. Drive north along the coast to Caesarea, one of the Land of Israel s most important cities in the Roman Period. Visit the Herodian theater and the excavations along the Mediterranean shore, concluding with a visit to the ruined 900-year-old Crusader town. Lunch on own en route. 2:00 p.m. Aging in the Arab Israeli Community: Visit Sakhnin Day Center for Elderly, meet with Rami Shalata, Director of the Center and Dr. Rabia Khalaila head of nursing school at the Tzefat College discussing aging in the Arab Israeli Society. Drive to the Upper Galilee and check into the kibbutz hotel. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight: Ramot Hotel, Sea of Galilee Day Five: Wednesday, February 21, 2018 ASCENDING TO JERUSALEM 9:00 a.m. Check out of the hotel. Stop at Capernaum, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, the base of Jesus Galilean ministry, with its remains of an ancient synagogue. Drive through Tiberias on the shores of the Sea of Galilee; head south along the Jordan Valley to Jerusalem. Visit the Beit She an National Park, one of Israel s largest archaeological sites, with its Biblical period archaeological mound and excavated Roman-Byzantine city. Lunch en route on own. Welcome to Jerusalem. Enter the vibrant and colourful ancient city of Jerusalem, and experience the convergence of the old and the new. Stop at the Haas Promenade for an overlook of the Old and New City of Jerusalem. 4:00-6:00 p.m. Co-Housing israel: an intentional senior community in Israel: Meeting with Sarah Kreimer, Director of external relations and resource

Explore experience of those creating a shared housing community for seniors which supports active participation in the life of the community, adhering to principals of: community, mutual support, inclusion and active engagement. Lunch on own. 1:30-3:30 p.m. Care for Aging Holocaust Survivors Meet with a representative of Amcha, the National Israeli Center for Psychological Support of Survivors of the Holocaust and the Second Generation. Investigate how experience of trauma in early life affects aging and eldercare. Meet with Dr. Martin Auerbach, National Clinical Director, Joanna Gottesfeld, Director of Amcha Jerusalem Branch and Elisheva Flamm- Oren, Director of Planning, Development and Community Partnerships. Take a multi-cultural tasting journey through the hustle and bustle of Jerusalem s Machaneh Yehudah open-air market: Enjoy the sights, smells, tastes and sounds of this vibrant area where Jerusalemites shops; dinner on own. 7:30-9:00 p.m. End-of-Life Decision-Making: The Conversation: Meeting and workshop at Life s Door, which promotes and incorporates quality of life as a crucial tool in the medical treatment and care of people coping with serious illness and aging. Life s Door assists patients & their families and health care professionals focus is on hope and enhance their quality of life, at a time when quality of life is pushed side. 5 Day Seven: Friday, February 23, 2018 HISTORY AND SPIRITUALITY IN JERUSALEM End of life care and spiritual care: Meet with Sister Monica, director of French Hospital, a palliative care facility, and Rabbi Miriam Berkowitz, director of Kashouvot, a spiritual care agency, at the French Hospital discussing Interfaith pastoral care at end of life. Enter the Old City of Jerusalem via the Dung Gate. Explore the Jerusalem Archaeological Park, including the Davidson Center, Robinson s Arch and the Southern Wall steps where Jewish pilgrims entered the Temple Mount 2,000 years ago. Visit the Kotel (Western Wall) and experience the special atmosphere of this holy site. Lunch on own in the Jewish Quarter and continue with visits to archaeological treasures and other highlights, among them: A walk along the Rooftops of the Old City for a behind-the-scenes look at the various communities in Jerusalem and how they live alongside each other. Day Eight: Saturday, February 24, 2018 THE LAYERS OF THE LAND Walking tour Optional Shabbat Services at a local synagogue. 9:00 Return to the Old City. Visit the Pool of Bethesda and St. Anne's Crusader church, followed by a walk along the Via Dolorosa, passing by the Ecce Homo Arch and the Sisters of Zion Convent. Visit to the Austrian Hospice, a European enclave in the heart of the Old City, known for its breath-taking views from the rooftop terrace. Walk through Jerusalem s famous Old City Market (shuk). Lunch on your own. Explore the fascinating medieval Church of the Holy Sepulchre, venerated by many as the site of the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus. One Mountain, Three Religions: An inter-denominational exploration of Mt. Zion, the traditional burial site of King David, the Room of the Last Supper and a mosque all sharing a single building. Lunch on your own. 5:00 p.m. Sensitivity to the elderly: Meeting with Rabbi Miriam Berkowitz. Hands on interactive aging experience and discussion. Free time in the Mamilla pedestrian arcade, a very contemporary shopping area with a whiff of the past, located outside the Jaffa Gate of the Old City; dinner on own.

6 Day Nine: Sunday, February 25, 2018 TAKING IT HOME Depart hotel 8:15 a.m. 9:00- a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Visit the Yad Vashem complex, the Jewish National Memorial to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, including: The Avenue of the Righteous The Historical Museum The Children s Memorial 12:00 p.m. Drive to Beer Sheva. Box lunches en route. 1:30-3:00 p.m. Vision for the Future: 360 approach to older adults' lives Visit the CDI Healthy Aging lab of Ben Gurion University. CDI is the world's first innovation laboratory designed to meet the challenges facing today's older adults; it provides advances scientific infrastructure for start-ups in healthy aging technologies. CDI has established a multidisciplinary center and simulation laboratory to deepen understanding of the third age, develop solutions, and boost this fastgrowing global industry among Israeli innovators. 4:30 return to hotel and check out. 5:30 p.m. Festive farewell dinner at Olive and Fish restaurant and a discussion Taking It Home: participate in a dialogue on what we ve learned, and how this experience can enrich our work and lives in U.S. Transfer to Ben Gurion International Airport to check in for the departure flight to the USA.
