Move 3 spaces Key Verse Exercise Read the verse to remember aloud. Abraham answered, God himself provide. (Genesis 22:8) Move 3 spaces Move 3 spaces Organize the class in pairs. Each player can choose whether to move 1 or 3 spaces on his or her turn. The goal is be the first one to reach all of the phrases in the verse to remember in the correct order. Access to the phrase in the box is only given when a player ls on a ram in the bush. Using a good strategy of when to move 1 space when to move 3 spaces is key to winning the game. The student with the earliest birthday gets to play the first turn. Move 3 spaces Move 1 space (One example of a winning strategy is shown on the right.) Move 3 spaces Read Learn! Read Zion Zaya Talk about God s Provision aloud. Zion Zaya Talk about God s Provision Zion Zaya, were you listening intently to Pastor Z s sermon this morning? Zaya Yes. I d him refer to God as Jehovah-jireh, our provider. Zion Pastor Z explained that God supply all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Zaya As Pastor Z was preaching, I thought about what Nana always says, The Lord provide. Zion Pastor Z went on to tell about Abraham s experience. His text was Genesis 22:1-14. Zaya I was glad that I had Bible with me because it helped me to connect the Scripture to his sermon. Zion Pastor Z s sermon emphasized how Abraham trusted God. Zaya I want to share Pastor Z s sermon with our little friends, the Faithful Five Taj, Israel, Aaliyah, Tori Akeem. Zion Well, let s share some background to the event Pastor Z preached about. Abraham had been chosen by God to be the father of many nations. But Abraham had no heir. After waiting for 25 years, Abraham his wife had a son. Zaya How precious was this gift God! But now God called on Abraham to sacrifice his son, his heir, on an altar. Zion God gave instructions for the sacrifice of Abraham s son, Isaac. Abraham was told to take his son Isaac to Mt. Moriah. So Abraham took Isaac, two servants, a bundle of wood with him. He saddled his donkey started on his journey to the place where God directed him. How trusting Abraham was! He took the son he loved so much to sacrifice him to the Lord. 4 P a g e

Zaya Yes. Abraham knew that God would provide because he told his servants to wait at the foot of the mountain for return. Zion Abraham took what he needed to prepare the altar for the sacrifice a knife in one h the bundle of wood in the other. Zaya Isaac asked his dad, Where is the lamb that is to be sacrificed as a burnt offering (Genesis 22:7)? Zion Abraham s response was, The Lord provide (22:8). Zaya And, indeed God did. When they arrived at the place God told him to offer the sacrifice, Abraham built an altar laid the wood on it, tied up his beloved son Isaac laid him on the altar. Zion Then Abraham drew back his knife to kill his son. But a miraculous event occurred. An angel of the Lord called Abraham s name commed Abraham not to slay his son. Abraham has shown that he respected reverenced God. Zaya When Abraham looked up, he saw a ram caught by its horns in the thick brush. Because Abraham trusted God was obedient to God, God provided a ram in the bush (22:13) as a substitute for his son. As a result, Abraham called the place Jehovah-jireh, the term we d at the beginning of pastor Z s sermon. Zion I hope that our little friends, the Faithful Five, underst that if we they trust God, God provide what we/they need! Rise Up! Answers to questions in What Do You Think are underlined. Why do you think Abraham was ing to do what God asked him to do? (Answers vary) Give the meaning of the term, a ram in the bush. God provide in difficult situations. Complete the Superhero Challenge if time permits. Ask students to use Zion Zaya s conversation to act out the bible story. 7 Read Learn! Read Zion Zaya Talk about King Solomon s Prayer of Dedication aloud. Zion Zaya Talk about King Solomon s Prayer of Dedication Zaya Zion, do you know the history of the pretzel? Zion The pretzel? What does that have to do with today s lesson? Zaya You ll see. According to legend, the pretzel was created in 610 A.D. by an Italian monk presented to young students as a treat. It was baked dough, twisted in the shape of crossed arms. He called the treats pretiolas, which means little rewards. At this time, the crossing of the arms was the traditional position for er. In today s lesson, King Solomon made preparations to at the dedication of the newly-constructed Temple. King Solomon had a scaffold built so that all who were assembled for the dedication service would be able to see him. Upon sting on the 90 long, 90 wide, 54 high brazen platform, King Solomon assumed the posture of er in his day, first by raising his arms to, his way of acknowledging God, then, by kneeling, showing his humility before God. Zion Now I underst why you shared the story of the origin of the pretzel. King Solomon addressed God thusly: Lord, you are the God of Israel. There is no God like you in or on earth (2 Chronicles 6:14). Zaya Then King Solomon characterized God as one who keeps the covenants, His promises, to those who follow God with all ts. As proof, King Solomon acknowledged the promise God had made to David, God s servant, Solomon s father. God spoke with His mouth, but fulfilled the promises with His hs. In other words, not only did God speak, He acted. King Solomon understood that God would always have a son to sit on the throne of Israel, no doubt a reference to the King of kings. King Solomon emphasized the combination of faithfulness to His covenant the s obedience. Also, David s descendants must live according to God s laws. King Solomon recognized that no mere building could contain the Lord. He pleaded with God to his er. He also recognized that his need for God s help mercy were always imminent. Solomon knew that his allegiance was not to a building that had God s name on it, but to God God alone. Solomon simply asked God to the ers of the who call on God His Temple that was being dedicated in His name. Now arise, O Lord God come to your resting place, You the ark of your might. May your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, May your saints rejoice in your goodness. O Lord God, do not reject your anointed one. Remember the great love promised to David your servant (6:41-42 NIV). Zion God does not dwell in a temple; he dwells in our ts. Zaya What a powerful observation! Rise Up! Answers to questions in What Do You Think are underlined. Why do we use certain postures for er? (Answers vary) What posture did King Solomon use during his er? He raised his arms then he kneeled. 7 P a g e

Complete the Superhero Challenge if time permits. Tell students Zion Zaya love when the game truck comes to field day events at school. They want to design a KIDSZONE truck that let children experience exciting worship activities. Help them come up with materials they need for the truck. Below are the instructions for the Time to Create activity Make a KIDSZONE truck. Materials needed: large pieces of cardboard (like boxes or science display boards), construction paper, markers or crayons, scissors, duct tape or packing tape, glue Instructions: This activity can be done in large or small groups. Each group should design a panel on the truck. Consider asking the youth to assist with this project. They could be group leaders. Encourage students to include pictures of Zion Zaya saying scriptures or words that help them do the right thing. Students can also come up with ideas for bible video games. It is an opportunity for them to create what they would like to have in worship experiences. When the panels are done, tape them together. Make truck tires black construction paper glue them to the bottom. Display the KIDSZONE truck in the classroom. (Optional: You can make this a life-size project by taping large or extra-large boxes together to form a truck.) Close the lesson with er. Dear God, we promise to respect our sanctuaries as special places set aside for you. In Jesus Name, Amen! 8 P a g e

Read Learn! Read Zion Zaya Talk about Worship in God s House aloud. Zion Zaya Talk about Worship in God s House Zion Have you ever d of a celebration that lasted 14 days? Zaya No. I haven t. Zion Well, in our lesson today, you our friends learn about a worship service, a celebration of thanksgiving that lasted 14 days. After King Solomon carried out his father David s desire to build a Temple to the Lord, the Israelites participated in a dedication service. In last week s lesson, King Solomon offered a er of dedication. (Review the lesson for March 11, 2018.) Then they began a two-week period of celebration. When King Solomon finished ing, fire came down consumed all the burnt offerings sacrifices. Then a wonderful thing happened God s glory filled the temple. As a result, the priest could not enter the Temple of the Lord. The Israelites witnessed this magnificent event. They were so overcome with joy that they knelt in the courtyard of the Temple with s toward the ground. They ed worshiped the Lord, saying, He is good. His faithful love continues forever. (2 Chronicles 7:3 NIV) Then King Solomon all the offered sacrifices to the Lord. King Solomon sacrificed 22,000 head of cattle 120,000 sheep goats, setting the Temple of God apart. Added to the festivities were the priests Levites. The Levites were musicians who played the instruments King David made for praising the Lord. These instruments were lyres, harps, cymbals. (See 1 Chronicles 16:4-5.) The priests blew trumpets. All the Israelites stood. King Solomon sacrificed burnt offerings (meat offerings, grain offerings, fat of the friendship offerings) in front of the Temple because the bronze altar he had made could not hold all of the offerings they sacrificed to the Lord. After celebrating the dedication of the temple with an extended praise worship service, King Solomon also celebrated the Feast of the Tabernacles/Booths for 7 days. A huge crowd as far away as Lebo Hamath (the northernmost point of the Promised L) to the Wadi of Egypt (the southernmost point of the Promised L) gathered. The purpose of the feast was to recognize the harvest God had provided. On the eighth day, they held a solemn assembly. When Solomon sent the home after two weeks ts were full of joy because the Lord had done good things for King David, King Solomon them. Zaya What a marvelous praise service! What an inspirational celebration! Zion Praise God for all His blessings to us. Rise Up! Answers to questions in What Do You Think are underlined. What did King Solomon sacrifice as his offering? He sacrificed 142,000 cattle, sheep goats. How did the Levite priests praise God? They played instruments. What would you do in a special worship service? (Answers vary). 11 P a g e

Complete the Superhero Challenge if time permits. Tell students steadfast love is love that never changes never fails. That is the kind of love God has for us. God shows us this love through the was he provides for us. Zion Zaya want to make a list of ways to praise God for steadfast love. Write down all the things you can think of that God has provided for you to help Zion Zaya with list. Below are the instructions for the Time to Create activity Make a Tithing Piggy Bank. 13 Key Verse Exercise Read the verse to remember aloud.,,,, (2 Chronicles 7:14) Give each student a set of key verse words in Appendix E. Ask them to glue the words in the icons shaped like ts. Read Learn! Read Zion Zaya about Obedience aloud. Review key words. Zion Zaya Talk about Obedience Zaya Last week in English class, we learned about cause effect using if then statements. This is an example: If I were walking in the rain without a raincoat, would get wet. Zion Let me try one If I tried to run track in bedroom slippers, would get blisters on feet. Zaya I start one you complete it: If I tried to bake a cake without a recipe, Zion then cake would be a disaster. Zion In our lesson today, the Lord used cause/effect, if then statements when communicating with King Solomon. After King Solomon finished the Temple dedicated it to the Lord, the Lord appeared to him at night. (This is the second time that God appeared to Solomon. Read II Chronicles 1:1-12.) The Lord said to Solomon, I have d your er. I have chosen this place 13 P a g e

for self. It is a temple where sacrifices be offered (7:12). The Lord then made a cause effect statement: If I close up the sky there isn t any rain if I comm locusts to eat up the crops if I send a plague among if make low () turn evil ways, listen to them, I sin, I heal l (7:13-14 ICB). The Lord told Solomon that He had chosen sanctified the house (the Temple that Solomon had built dedicated to the Lord) promised that His name would be associated with the Temple forever. The Lord s message turns the Temple His chosen to Solomon himself. So the Lord makes another cause effect/ if then statement. The Lord focused on Solomon s behavior. The Lord lifts up Solomon s father King David as the example of how Solomon s walk must be with the Lord. Although David was not perfect, his life in general was pleasing to the Lord. In the then part of the statement, the Lord repeated to Solomon what He told David as David lay dying. This statement specifically addresses idolatry which result in the Lord turning away His. The s behavior also cause the Lord that bears His name to meet with disaster. The Temple which had been the centerpiece of the worship would lie in ruins. People who had seen the beauty of the Temple knew it indicated the presence of the Lord would be shocked by what they saw. They would ask: What happened? The answer to which would be: Because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of fathers, who brought them out of Egypt, have embraced other gods, worshiping serving them, that is why he brought all this disaster on them (7:22 KJV). In other words, the destruction of the Temple is because the had forsaken the Lord worshiped served other gods. They had forgotten history had broken covenant with the Lord. Zion We must remember what the Lord has done for us. Zaya We must keep our promises to the Lord serve Him with gladness. Zion Thank you, Lord, for all of your promises to us. Rise Up! Answers to questions in What Do You Think are underlined. What did God say to Solomon the second time He visited Solomon? God chose the temple as a place for himself. What was God s promise to His? God would er, sin heal l if they d followed God s rules. Complete the Superhero Challenge if time permits. Show students an example of an acrostic using your name. Then ask them to use the letters in either Zion s or Zaya s name to write a er of thanksgiving. Below are the instructions for the Time to Create activity Make a Prayer Journal. Materials needed: Religious Cross Cutout Notepads ( Oriental Trading), markers, pencils Instructions: Allow students to decorate the cover of notepads. Then challenge them to write a er in the journal every day. Close the lesson with er. Dear God, thank you for listening to our ers showing us mercy when we do not follow the rules. Help us to be obedient wherever we go. In Jesus Name, Amen! 14 P a g e
