Exdus 11/12 Having cvered the nine plagues f judgment (9=judgment), we nw turn t the tenth and mst imprtant plague f testimny (10=testimny) SLIDE 11/12-1 Chapter 11 prvides a descriptin f the plague much in the same way as the earlier plagues But the tenth plague is intended t stand apart frm the rest It desn t fllw the patterns we ve been tracking in the earlier plagues SLIDE 11/12-2 Then fllwing the brief descriptin in chapter 11, the Lrd gives Mses a new set f instructins centered arund the tenth plague and its meaning fr Israel Ex. 11:1 Nw the LORD said t Mses, One mre plague I will bring n Pharah and n Egypt; after that he will let yu g frm here. When he lets yu g, he will surely drive yu ut frm here cmpletely. Ex. 11:2 Speak nw in the hearing f the peple that each man ask frm his neighbr and each wman frm her neighbr fr articles f silver and articles f gld. Ex. 11:3 The LORD gave the peple favr in the sight f the Egyptians. Furthermre, the man Mses himself was greatly esteemed in the land f Egypt, bth in the sight f Pharah s servants and in the sight f the peple. Chapter 11 is bth a cntinuatin f the meeting depicted in chapter 10 and an intrductin fr what cmes next In chapter 10 we heard Pharah rder Mses t leave and never return, and Mses agreed angrily But befre Mses departs frm the presence f Pharah, he delivers this message cncerning the tenth plague S this chapter gives us additinal infrmatin cncerning what was spken in that final meeting And it sets up the arrival f the final plague First, the Lrd had infrmed Mses f the tenth and final plague befre Mses had his final meeting with Pharah This judgment wuld be the ne t free Israel 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 2 f 22 In fact, the tenth will cause Egypt t drive Israel frm the land In preparatin fr that mment, Gd directs Israel t be prepared t ask their Egyptian neighbrs fr articles f gld and silver The request must have sunded crazy at the time But in v.3 Mses explains why the request isn t s crazy after all The Lrd will cause the Egyptians t esteem the peple f Israel and Mses and agree t the request Ex. 11:4 Mses said, Thus says the LORD, Abut midnight I am ging ut int the midst f Egypt, Ex. 11:5 and all the firstbrn in the land f Egypt shall die, frm the firstbrn f the Pharah wh sits n his thrne, even t the firstbrn f the slave girl wh is behind the millstnes; all the firstbrn f the cattle as well. Ex. 11:6 Mrever, there shall be a great cry in all the land f Egypt, such as there has nt been befre and such as shall never be again. Ex. 11:7 But against any f the sns f Israel a dg will nt even bark, whether against man r beast, that yu may understand hw the LORD makes a distinctin between Egypt and Israel. Ex. 11:8 All these yur servants will cme dwn t me and bw themselves befre me, saying, G ut, yu and all the peple wh fllw yu, and after that I will g ut. And he went ut frm Pharah in ht anger. Mses delivers a warning t Pharah regarding this final plague The Lrd will persnally g ut int the land f Egypt causing all the firstbrn in Egypt t die Bth man and animal will die When we reach chapter 13, we learn why Gd is taking the lives f bth man and beast in this judgment When we hear firstbrn we shuld remember that age is nt a cnsideratin in this judgment A father r mther r grandfather r grandmther wh is the firstbrn wuld als die in this judgment S there wuld be deaths frm every generatin, bth f man and beast 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 3 f 22 Even Pharah himself might have died except that he wasn t the first brn sn f Thutmse III Amenhptep II had an lder brther brn t a different mther But befre Thutmse III died, his wife and eldest sn died As a result, Thutmse III tk a secnd wife and she bre Amenhtep II The result f this judgment wuld be grief beynd anything the natin had experienced thus far Yet Gd wuld cntinue t shw distinctin between His peple and thse f Egypt Ntice that Gd is wrking t discriminate natins, nt individuals There is nt attempt t tie these judgments t the behavir f individuals ther than Pharah Gd is judging ne natin fr the sake f anther natin This reminds us that Gd s cvenants with Israel perate n a natinal level, which is smething we ll see mre later Having delivered the full wrd f the Lrd t Pharah, Mses leaves ht with anger This mment is the same ne depicted in Exdus 10:29 Ex. 11:9 Then the LORD said t Mses, Pharah will nt listen t yu, s that My wnders will be multiplied in the land f Egypt. Ex. 11:10 Mses and Aarn perfrmed all these wnders befre Pharah; yet the LORD hardened Pharah s heart, and he did nt let the sns f Israel g ut f his land. The chapter ends with a tw verse summary f all that has transpired leading int the tenth judgment Gd set abut t ensure Pharah wuldn t listen t Mses And this was dne t ensure that all Gd s wnders wuld be multiplied in the land f Egypt Mses and Aarn perfrmed these wnders as Gd instructed And the Lrd did as He prmised, hardening the Pharah s heart 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 4 f 22 Nw the Lrd gives a series f instructins t Mses t prepare the natin f Israel fr this tenth judgment Ex. 12:1 Nw the LORD said t Mses and Aarn in the land f Egypt, Ex. 12:2 This mnth shall be the beginning f mnths fr yu; it is t be the first mnth f the year t yu. By the nature f these instructins, it becmes clear that the tenth plague is intended t carry special meaning fr the natin The tenth plague will g by the name f Passver The wrd cmes frm the nature f the plague itself, as we ll see Gd s first instructin cncerning the Passver cncerns the Jewish calendar Remember that the eighth plague destryed the wheat, which cmes up in early March And the ninth plague fllwed sn thereafter Nw the tenth plague is set t happen during late March r April Gd tells Mses that this mnth will nw becme the first mnth f the year fr Israel The Bible calls this mnth by tw different names SLIDE 11/12-3 At the time f Mses, the Jews called it Aviv as we ll see later in chapter 13 f Exdus The name Aviv means fresh yung ears, as in the new stalks f grain The mnth cmes in the early Spring, and s the name suggests the beginning f a new harvest After the natin f Israel went int captivity in Babyln, the natin began using the Babylnian wrd Nisan instead f Aviv Thugh the wrd changed, it is the same mnth n the calendar in early Spring Prir t this change, the natin f Israel fllwed the same calendar as the Egyptians (and the rest f the ancient east) 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 5 f 22 The ancient east calendar was a lunar calendar with twelve mnths Why did Gd direct this change? The first mnth f each year ccurred in the autumn, between September and Octber The first mnth is called Tishri S Gd changed the first mnth f the year frm Tishri t Aviv - a difference f six mnths The answer is fund by lking mre clsely at the Egyptian calendar The Egyptians saw great spiritual significance in each lunar perid and with the astrlgical sign assciated with each mnth Fr example, the mnth f Tishri was began when the sun entered the cnstellatin Libra, which ccurs in Sept-Oct Each new mnth was marked by the arrival f a new cnstellatin in the sky The 12 astrlgical signs we still have tday cme frm the Egyptian ccult religius system If yu read yur hrscpe, yu are bserving the same Egyptian calendar that existed in the day f Israel Each mnth in the calendar carried significant spiritual meaning fr the Egyptians, especially the first mnth f the year Each mnth s astrlgical sign taught an aspect f Egyptian spiritual beliefs Cllectively the twelve astrlgical signs taught Egyptian thelgy Fr example, the first mnth f Tishri is assciated with Libra, The wrd Libra means scales r weights and the cnstellatin resembles a pair f scales Egyptian believed this sign taught that the gds wuld weigh a man s deeds upn his death and assess his entry int the afterlife based n the weight f his deeds 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 6 f 22 If the man s deeds culd tip the scales in his favr, then he wuld pass the test f the gds and be granted entry int the after life A pr judgment at the scales resulted in the Egyptian versin f hell S Egypt began each calendar year with a mnth that reminded them t recmmitment t a year f gd deeds We many still make New Years reslutins tday While Israel didn t share in the Egyptian s religius views, it did use the same calendar S until the Exdus, Tishri was the first mnth f the year fr Israel as well Interestingly, after Gd changed the first mnth t Aviv, the Jews still wanted t cunt the start f a new year in Tishri They claim t have cunted every year since the creatin f Adam By their reckning, ur current year is 5773 S t disrupting that cunt, the Jews cntinued waiting until Tishri t increase the cunt f the year We call this the Jewish civic calendar S the Jews number each mnth beginning with Aviv Aviv is the first mnth, Tishri is the seventh mnth, etc. This calendar dictates the bservance f the feasts and festivals f the Law But the cunt f years is incremented in the seventh mnth f Tishri It wuld be like us calling January the first mnth but waiting fr July befre adding ne t the year 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 7 f 22 When Gd changes this practice in Exdus 12, He sets Israel apart frm Egypt and the rest f the ancient wrld While the rest f the ancient East wuld bserve a new year in the mnth f Tishri, Israel wuld bserve it in Aviv in the Spring And they wuld bserve it in cnnectin with Passver, a memrial t their flight frm Egypt And as we ll see later in the chapter, the defining mment in the Passver is the sacrifice f a lamb This detail is the piece we needed t finally understand why Gd made this change While the mnth f Tishri crrespnds t Libra, the scales, the mnth f Aviv begins when the sun mves int the cnstellatin Aries And the cnstellatin Aries is pictured as a sacrificial ram In Egyptian thelgy, the mnth f Aviv taught f the need fr atning sacrifice t appease the gds S nw we see the Lrd purpses in taking the Egyptian symblgy and repurpsing it fr Israel The new calendar will be yet anther way He causes Israel t becme a distinct peple And the change cunters the Egyptian thelgy by placing primary imprtance n the atning sacrifice f the Passver rather than n persnal wrks As we nw lk at the instructins f the Passver that Gd gives t Israel, we will als lk fr all the ways in which these details cmplete the picture f Christ The Passver is withut a dubt the clearest picture f Christ fund in the Old Testament In fact, Paul calls Jesus ur Passver in 1Cr 5:7 And the imprtance and uniqueness f the Passver is als reflected in the prminence f the feast in bth the OT and NT The Passver is mentined mre than any ther feast 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 8 f 22 Jesus isn t just pictured by the Passver feast He becmes its fulfillment Jesus dies n the day f Passver Ex. 12:3 Speak t all the cngregatin f Israel, saying, On the tenth f this mnth they are each ne t take a lamb fr themselves, accrding t their fathers husehlds, a lamb fr each husehld. Ex. 12:4 Nw if the husehld is t small fr a lamb, then he and his neighbr nearest t his huse are t take ne accrding t the number f persns in them; accrding t what each man shuld eat, yu are t divide the lamb. Ex. 12:5 Yur lamb shall be an unblemished male a year ld; yu may take it frm the sheep r frm the gats. Ex. 12:6 Yu shall keep it until the furteenth day f the same mnth, then the whle assembly f the cngregatin f Israel is t kill it at twilight. On the tenth day f Aviv, each in family in the natin wuld take a lamb int their father s huse Smaller families wuld cmbine t frm a single family The purpse in the cmbining was t ensure that the feast was celebrated crprately The riginal Passver was a crprate event, ne that invlved the entire natin f Israel The natin suffered in slavery as a single entity and s it earned its freedm as a single entity If a family were nly tw r three, the sense f crprate invlvement was lst, s smaller families cmbined t create larger grups Accrding t v.4 the cmbining cntinued until there were enugh peple t ensure the lamb was cnsumed The sacrifice itself had t selected and kept in a certain way Accrding t v.5, they culd sacrifice a male lamb (r a male gat ) The lamb had t be a male unblemished A blemish meant any defect in his health r appearance 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 9 f 22 Only lambs that appeared t be perfect culd be sacrificed It must be ne year ld The lamb must have reached adult age, yet still be in the prime f life Finally, the lamb is brught int the father s huse n the tenth day f Aviv The the lamb remains in the hme until the day f the sacrifice The day f the day f sacrifice was t be fur days later, n the furteenth f Aviv Then v.6 says that all Israel was t cllective sacrifice their lambs at twilight In the Hebrew, the timing is nt actually twilight It reads literally between the tw evenings Jews understd the phrase t refer t the perid frm nn until nightfall In ther wrds, the phrase between the tw evenings means afternn S the timing fr the killing f the lambs in Israel must take place frm 12:00 t 6:00 PM In Jesus day, Jsephus reprts that the Pharisees custmarily killed the natinal passver lamb exactly at 3:00 PM, since this time falls exactly between nn and 6:00 PM Hw d these details cntribute t a picture f the Lrd? T understand the cnnectin we need t jump frward t the finally week f Jesus life as recrded in the Gspels On the tenth day f Aviv, Jesus entered Jerusalem n a dnkey and prmptly went t the Temple curt 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 10 f 22 Jhn 2:13 The Passver f the Jews was near, and Jesus went up t Jerusalem. Jhn 2:14 And He fund in the temple thse wh were selling xen and sheep and dves, and the mney changers seated at their tables. Jhn 2:15 And He made a scurge f crds, and drve them all ut f the temple, with the sheep and the xen; and He pured ut the cins f the mney changers and verturned their tables; Jhn 2:16 and t thse wh were selling the dves He said, Take these things away; stp making My Father s huse a place f business. Jhn 2:17 His disciples remembered that it was written, ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME. Jesus entered the curts f the temple and fund crruptin and sin inside the walls He reacts in righteus anger at what He finds and famusly runs the mney changers ut f the temple We ll cme back t this mment later in ur study f the Passver Then ntice that Jesus, wh is ur Passver Paul says, calls the Temple His Father s huse We nted a mment ag that the lamb must be taken int the father s husehld n the tenth f Aviv Here we see the Lamb f Gd entering His father s huse n the appinted day Secndly, Passver was a crprate celebratin, ne that reminded the Jews f their cllective exdus frm slavery Similarly, Jesus was a single sacrifice fr all the sins f the peple Jesus was ffered t the natin as Lamb f Gd given t take away the sin f Israel Just as the natin was t cme tgether and bserve the Passver tgether, the natin as a whle was required t accept the sacrifice f the Messiah Either the entire natin f Israel wuld embrace their Messiah r they wuld cllectively reject him As we knw, the natin rejected their Messiah, and s they cllectively remained in bndage t sin 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 11 f 22 Thirdly, the sacrifice itself had requirements It must be an adult make in the prime f life and withut blemish Jesus fit this descriptin exactly We knw He was male and at the strngest time in life We als knw He was withut blemish Paul says: 2Cr. 5:21 He made Him wh knew n sin t be sin n ur behalf, s that we might becme the righteusness f Gd in Him. We can find an even mre specific parallel between Jesus and the Passver Lamb While the lamb was living in the father s huse, the family wuld spend the fur days inspecting the lamb fr defects If a defect was discvered, the lamb wuldn t have been suitable fr the sacrifice The same pattern repeated itself in the case f Jesus After Jesus entered the Temple, he began teaching the peple As He taught, the religius leaders cnspired against Him in an attempt t discredit Jesus in the sight f the peple Luke reprts: Luke 19:47 And He was teaching daily in the temple; but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men amng the peple were trying t destry Him, Luke 19:48 and they culd nt find anything that they might d, fr all the peple were hanging n t every wrd He said. Each day Jesus spent in the temple leading up t the Passver, He was cnfrnted by a different grup f Jewish leaders First it was the chief priests and scribes and Pharisees Then the Herdians Finally the Sadducees 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 12 f 22 Each grup tried t trick Jesus with questins designed t make Him lk flish But in case, Jesus answered the charge successfully and turned the shame back n His accusers This went n fr fur days and at the end, Jesus was fund inncent and blameless He was withut blemish Finally, Jesus was placed n the crss exactly fur days later, n the day f Passver Jesus was hung n the crss at nine in the mrning Mark tells us And Mark als tells us that Jesus died at exactly 3:00 PM Jesus died at exactly the same mment that the High Priest f Israel was sacrificing the natinal Passver lamb that day There has never been such a useless animal sacrifice ffered S Jesus fit these requirements perfectly as the Lamb f Gd sacrificed And remember that we ve already nted hw the Exdus itself is a picture Gd frees Israel frm slavery in Egypt and brings them t wrship at a muntain Ultimately He brings them t the drstep f the Prmised Land This stry pictures Gd s future wrk f freeing Israel frm the bndage f sin and unbelief After the judgments f Tribulatin, Gd will bring faith t the natin f Israel and lead them t wrship at Mt Zin in the Kingdm Then the natin will enter int the eternal Prmised Land And hw des Gd accmplish this wrk f redemptin n behalf f Israel? It desn t cme as a result f the judgments 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 13 f 22 They merely set up the ultimately event: the Passver Because f the Passver, Israel finally gains its freedm Likewise, at the end f Tribulatin Israel will cme t faith nt because f the judgments f Tribulatin Rather, it will be by the grace f the Lamb f Gd, Jesus By His sacrifice, the natin will be saved and receive their Lrd Ex. 12:7 Mrever, they shall take sme f the bld and put it n the tw drpsts and n the lintel f the huses in which they eat it. Ex. 12:8 They shall eat the flesh that same night, rasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. Ex. 12:9 D nt eat any f it raw r biled at all with water, but rather rasted with fire, bth its head and its legs alng with its entrails. Ex. 12:10 And yu shall nt leave any f it ver until mrning, but whatever is left f it until mrning, yu shall burn with fire. Ex. 12:11 Nw yu shall eat it in this manner: with yur lins girded, yur sandals n yur feet, and yur staff in yur hand; and yu shall eat it in haste it is the LORD S Passver. Ex. 12:12 Fr I will g thrugh the land f Egypt n that night, and will strike dwn all the firstbrn in the land f Egypt, bth man and beast; and against all the gds f Egypt I will execute judgments I am the LORD. Ex. 12:13 The bld shall be a sign fr yu n the huses where yu live; and when I see the bld I will pass ver yu, and n plague will befall yu t destry yu when I strike the land f Egypt. Gd cntinues with the instructins t Israel The bld f the lamb was t be applied t the drway f each huse The bld was t be applied with hyssp branch (v.22) It was applied t the tp beam and the side beams but nt the threshld The threshld can be tread upn The bld represented the life f the animal, since the bld pured ut resulted in the death f the animal Fllwing this the animals was t be rasted by fire, nt biled r prepared in any ther way 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 14 f 22 The animal was rasted whle with head and legs still attached t the bdy My versin mentins entrails, but that s an unfrtunate translatin The animal was gutted, but the carcass was left entirely intact The intent was that the animal wuld still resemble an animal after cking It wasn t sectined int parts and made t appear simply as meat Furthermre, the entire animal had t be cnsumed r else burned The sacrifice was t be ttally cnsumed as if it had disappeared In the day f the Exdus, this it made sense that nthing was t be left after the meal The natin was t leave in haste immediately afterward, and s there wuld be n way t preserve leftver meat Next, the peple were t eat the meal ready t leave in haste They were dressed in a way that indicated they were ready t mve n cmmand This is a requirement unique t the first Passver In future bservances f the Passver, this was n lnger bserved Jesus Himself didn t bserve this cmmand when He celebrated the meal with the disciples n the night befre He died Finally, the Lrd tells Israel that the bld n the dr will be their salvatin when the judgment f death cmes The Lrd is intent n ging ut int the land f Egypt and bringing death t the first brn 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 15 f 22 Israel will escape this judgment thrugh the applicatin f this bld In past judgments, the natin did nthing t escape the plagues But nw they must apply the bld t escape This final judgment will cme t Israel als unless they apply the bld We can easily see hw these details are reflective f Jesus The Bible tells us that the bld f Christ is the atnement fr ur sin 1Jhn 1:7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellwship with ne anther, and the bld f Jesus His Sn cleanses us frm all sin. 1Pet. 1:18 knwing that yu were nt redeemed with perishable things like silver r gld frm yur futile way f life inherited frm yur frefathers, 1Pet. 1:19 but with precius bld, as f a lamb unblemished and sptless, the bld f Christ. His bld stands between us and the judgment that cmes upn all men fr their sin, the Secnd Death It cvers us and when Gd lks upn us, He sees the bld f Christ and des nt bring judgment against us Furthermre, the bld was applied in a shape reminiscent f the crss But the bld itself wuldn t save the family unless it was applied in the manner Gd described They had t apply it t the dr in faith that Gd wuld keep His wrd They knew Gd was bringing this judgment, and they had faith in His wrd that He wuld spare Israel by the bld Speaking f Mses, the writer says Heb. 11:28 By faith he kept the Passver and the sprinkling f the bld, s that he wh destryed the firstbrn wuld nt tuch them Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 16 f 22 Next cme mre instructins cncerning the bservance f this feast in the future Ex. 12:14 Nw this day will be a memrial t yu, and yu shall celebrate it as a feast t the LORD; thrughut yur generatins yu are t celebrate it as a permanent rdinance. Ex. 12:15 Seven days yu shall eat unleavened bread, but n the first day yu shall remve leaven frm yur huses; fr whever eats anything leavened frm the first day until the seventh day, that persn shall be cut ff frm Israel. Ex. 12:16 On the first day yu shall have a hly assembly, and anther hly assembly n the seventh day; n wrk at all shall be dne n them, except what must be eaten by every persn, that alne may be prepared by yu. Ex. 12:17 Yu shall als bserve the Feast f Unleavened Bread, fr n this very day I brught yur hsts ut f the land f Egypt; therefre yu shall bserve this day thrughut yur generatins as a permanent rdinance. Ex. 12:18 In the first mnth, n the furteenth day f the mnth at evening, yu shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day f the mnth at evening. Ex. 12:19 Seven days there shall be n leaven fund in yur huses; fr whever eats what is leavened, that persn shall be cut ff frm the cngregatin f Israel, whether he is an alien r a native f the land. Ex. 12:20 Yu shall nt eat anything leavened; in all yur dwellings yu shall eat unleavened bread. The Passver is cmmanded as a single-day memrial frever in Israel It is a single day event, and it shuld be bserved perpetually This means we can expect t see the natin celebrating it even in the Kingdm The Passver day may be the rigin fr the term day f the Lrd amng the OT prphets The term day f the Lrd refers t the perid f Tribulatin in the last days This is a time f judgment fllwed by blessing fr Israel Similarly, the day f Passver was a day f judgment fllwed by blessing fr Israel This event is t be cmbined with a secnd memrial that begins n the very next day 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 17 f 22 The Jews were t eat nly unleavened bread fr seven day The leaven r yeast was t be remved frm the huse n the first day After this, n may eat leavened bread The penalty fr eating leavened bread in v.15 is t be cut ff The wrd in Hebrew implies killed, s the penalty fr eating leavened bread was t be put t death The first and the seventh days f the feast are Sabbath days when n wrk may take place Wrk may be dne in between these days But n leaven may be eaten during the entire seven days At the time f the Exdus, this seven day perid crrespnded t the time between the killing f the first brn and the natin s arrival at the cast f the Red Sea After seven days f literally cnstant traveling, they finally stpped This cnstant travel prevented the natin frm taking time t bake leavened bread, thus necessitating the unleavened bread These instructins cntinue t parallels between the Exdus and Jesus as the Passver Lamb First, Passver feast is a permanent rdinance never t end Similarly, the sacrifice f Jesus, ur Passver Lamb, is a frever sacrifice that never ceases t be effective in atning fr sin Heb. 7:27 wh des nt need daily, like thse high priests, t ffer up sacrifices, first fr His wn sins and then fr the sins f the peple, because this He did nce fr all when He ffered up Himself. Having accepted the sacrifice f Christ n ur behalf, believers nw enter a new perid f life We are called t set aside sin and live a life set apart fr the glry f Gd 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

Exdus 11/12 18 f 22 We are called t a walk f sanctificatin in which we tld nt t sin but rather pursue hliness In the Bible yeast r leaven is a picture f sin S t remve yeast r leaven frm the hme was a picture f remving sin frm ur life The seven days represent ur life lead after ur salvatin in Christ when we are wrking t avid sin 1Cr. 5:6 Yur basting is nt gd. D yu nt knw that a little leaven leavens the whle lump f dugh? 1Cr. 5:7 Clean ut the ld leaven s that yu may be a new lump, just as yu are in fact unleavened. Fr Christ ur Passver als has been sacrificed. 1Cr. 5:8 Therefre let us celebrate the feast, nt with ld leaven, nr with the leaven f malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread f sincerity and truth. Our walk with Christ in faith is a time when we are wrking t put aside sin, but this perid is sandwiched between tw ther mments where we d n wrk On the day f ur salvatin, we are nt wrking at all Instead, ur salvatin cmes by faith and nt by wrks Similarly, at the end f ur life in Christ, we will see the final step f redemptin take place when we will be glrified And that day is als a day in which Gd des all the wrk and we d nthing but receive His grace Rm. 8:30 and these whm He predestined, He als called; and these whm He called, He als justified; and these whm He justified, He als glrified. Lastly, in the day f Israel s redemptin, this pattern repeats The natin will be called t accept their sacrifice and thse wh d will be given the right t enter the Kingdm But nly the righteus can enter the Kingdm 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.

D nt be deceived; neither frnicatrs, nr idlaters, nr adulterers, nr effeminate, nr hmsexuals, 1Cr. 6:10 nr thieves, nr the cvetus, nr drunkards, nr revilers, nr swindlers, will inherit the kingdm f Gd. Therefre, the ne in Israel wh is nt free f leaven (i.e., sin) will be cut ff frm the rest f Israel This refers t hw the unbelieving Jews will die at the cming f Christ at the end f Tribulatin Only thse free f sin will enter the kingdm after the Tribulatin The rebels will be cut ff Ezek. 20:36 As I entered int judgment with yur fathers in the wilderness f the land f Egypt, s I will enter int judgment with yu, declares the Lrd GOD. Ezek. 20:37 I will make yu pass under the rd, and I will bring yu int the bnd f the cvenant; Ezek. 20:38 and I will purge frm yu the rebels and thse wh transgress against Me; I will bring them ut f the land where they sjurn, but they will nt enter the land f Israel. Thus yu will knw that I am the LORD. Ex. 12:34 S the peple tk their dugh befre it was leavened, with their kneading bwls bund up in the clthes n their shulders. The angel f the Lrd ges thrughut the land f Egypt taking the life f the first brn at midnight Every huse experienced death f sme kind Every first brn male human being and animal perished The cries f Egypt were great that night and the Jews wuld have heard them But nt a single persn died in Israel Pharah lses his first brn sn, a by whse identity has been lst t histry But we knw his successr Thutmse IV was nt the first brn sn 2012 Verse By Verse Ministry f San Antni ( May be cpied and distributed prvided the dcument is reprduced in its entirety, including this cpyright statement, and n fee is cllected fr its distributin.
